Speaker 1 (00:00):
And over on the Legacy Retirement Group dot com phone line.
We welcome in Monday morning, Rory O'Neil, NBC News Radio, Rory,
good morning. If we had a nice long weekend and
it was a very tragic weekend in central Texas with
the flooding along the Guadalupe River in Texas Hill Country
camp myssed it. It's a Christian all girls camp and
now seeing death toll over eighty now with still some

(00:24):
people missing there. What is the latest this morning.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah, more than forty people still missing, including ten girls
from a camp in that area as well. And as
you said, I think twenty eight from the camp have
been confirmed fatalities. But the numbers really are just gripping,
and they are preparing for more flash flooding today. They
could get ten inches of brain in some spots according

(00:49):
to the forecast, and lots of questions being asked about
the forecasting, the weather alerts, whether or not those alerts
were properly communicated, or decisions were made in time or not,
you know, people should have been evacuated ahead of time.
All that is for later, because right now the focus
is trying to hopefully find people who still survived this.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
What time of day did this? Was this in the
evening at night? Were the campers in bed at this time?

Speaker 2 (01:15):
They were? It was overnight and the water rose twenty
feet in about forty five minutes, So really, you know,
almost no time to even issue an alert to tell
people to search for higher ground, because with that little
time frame, there was almost nothing people could do.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Have you seen the story of this coastcard rescue swimmer
that is being called a hero. Did he single handedly
help save one hundred and sixty five people?

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Yeah? And I think that's often overlooked in this that
we count the number of victims, but the number of
people rescued and who have survived. This is miraculous. When
you see just how fast that water was rising, you know,
and plus the amount of debris floating in that water
as well, it makes it incredibly dangerous in order to
be out there. But that coast got rescue swimmer again,
as you pointed out, getting credited with saving and rescuing

(02:05):
one hundred and sixty five people. Just incredible.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Yeah, just a gut wrenching story there in Central Texas.
Thanks for that report this morning, Rory O'Neill
