Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, I want to spend a couple of minutes

(00:01):
and get an update on the NATO summit on the
Legacy Retirement Group dot com phone line from Fox News
Jonathan Savage, Jonathan, good morning. The President is in the
Netherlands and the NATO summit. This is of course, on
the heels of the attack on the Iranian nuclear sites.
How's it going for Trump so far?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
It's going. I think it's going very well. I mean,
if you start last night he attended a gala dinner
with the King and Queen of the Netherlands and the
other NATO leaders. It's the sort of thing I think
he really enjoys that aspect of things. And beyond that,
he was invited to spend the night in the Royal Palace.
He did so, changing his accommodation plans in the process.
The Netherlands has really rolled out the red carpet for

(00:40):
President Trump, as has the NATO's Dutch Secretary General Mark Rutta,
who this morning speaking in glowing terms to who he
called dear Donald praising Donald Trump for bringing the alliance
to the point whereas they have pretty much unanimity about
spending much more on their offense and also praising President

(01:02):
Trump for the action he ordered in Iran against the
rans nuclear facilities.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
He seems to be enjoying himself.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
And that, you know, I think it's important to Donald
Trump that he does like and get on with the
people he does business with. You know, we've seen him
have argument with people in the past. We've seen him
he last week he left the G seven summit early
and what was a bit of embarrassment for the G seven,
no matter what the circumstances were, and they really didn't
want him to do that here at NATO, especially given

(01:31):
that NATO is a security alliance with Russia and China
watching on. And part of the reason why this summit
is going the way it is is because they're putting
a real effort into keeping President Trump happy. There's only
one working session, which limits the chance of him getting
perhaps I feeling he should be doing something else and
going back to Washington. Limits the opportunity for division because

(01:53):
they're not talking about lots of different things. So this
is a summit designed to please President Trump, to achieve
his goals and to keep NATO.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
United, and I think one of his goals. Speaking with
Jonathan Savage from Fox News, by the way, one of
the goals and one of his asks has been asking
NATO countries to increase their defense spending.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yes, they don't want him to pull troops out of Europe.
Wanted to pull US capabilities out of Europe. And one
of the things they're doing to achieve that is to
make sure that NATO allies listen to a President Trump
has been saying for a long time and pay a
lot more for their own defense, rely less on the
American military capabilities. Not all countries are on board. Spain,

(02:38):
for example, who have long lagged behind other allies and
what they spend on their defense, say they're not going
to reach the three and a half percent target for
core military spending plus one and a half percent on
related spending. They're going to go to two point one percent,
so much much less. Mark growths just sort of glossing
over this difference of opinion and talking about unity and

(02:59):
un and them.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
See what else is on the agenda for the President
NATO meetings, Jonathan, He's got.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Some other meetings on the sidelines, including with Indo Pacific partners,
because there are countries from far outside NATO who are
here as well, who feel they have a stake, so
it's an opportunity for him to make, for example, the
South Korean's, Japanese, Australia and New Zealand that kind of thing.
We also expect him to have a sideline, we think

(03:26):
with Vadimer Zelenski, the President of Ukraine. In previous years,
Ukraine has dominated these NATO summits and it's far far
down the agenda today. Part of that sort of the
reason for that being that it's far down President Trump's
agenda
