New Bill would make Florida colleges and universities name streets after Charlie Kirk

Fox's Eben Brown reports that if these institutions do not do this, funds could be withheld.

newly proposed Florida bill out of a House there would
require public state colleges and universities to rename certain campus
roads and streets after Charlie Kirk.

What do we know, Well, the bill has been filed.
It doesn't look like there seems to be much opposition.
It needs to go through the normal legislative stuff. But
you know, I suspect that a number of our universities
and colleges in Florida here would probably have no problem
doing this. You know, Charlie Kirk, certainly his popularity was universal,

(00:40):
but here in Florida he was quite quite popular, and
so I would I would imagine there wouldn't be too
much official opposition to this. Certainly there'll be some opposition,
because there always is. But we'll, you know, we'll see
what happens, you know, in the legislature. Might might not
happen in the next couple of weeks. You know, they
may it may have a way to the legislative session

next year. But what we'll see.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yeah, it's interesting, it's it's you would think it would
be voluntary, right, You would think these colleges and universities
would want to do that versus being forced. Anytime people
hear about their having to be they're being mandated to
do something, there's a kind of a natural reaction to
push back. But it may not be the case here.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah, Like I said, I don't I don't suspect there'd
be a lot of pushback on this, you know. I think,
in fact, I think there'll probably be a number of universities,
especially at the state college level here, which is what
we call the like what we do call community college.
They're they're much more localized and smaller. They might just
go ahead and do some of this on their own.

That wouldn't surprise me at all.

And if they if they refuse, then the bill suggests
that state funds would be withheld from those institutions.

Correct, That's that's how these things work. So, yeah, that's
the that's the leverage, right, it's the money
