Speaker 1 (00:00):
Eight minutes after eat. Let's get into it. Jeff Logan
part of our best Buckeye coverage Ohio State Athletic Hall
of Famer former BUCKYE running back number thirty four. LOGI,
you were just in California? Were you officiating a family wedding?
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yeah, that's exactly right. I was honored to be able
to do a wedding out there in San Diego for
my nephew Danny and his new wife, Cheyenne. So we
had a terrific time out there. I wish I could
tell you that the travel schedules for the airlines was really,
really good, but it was not. It is. I think
(00:38):
it's become a commonplace thing that you expect the worst
and get the worst whatever happens when you travel anymore.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
I'm sorry to hear that you have delays and stuff
or just a bad experience overall.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
It was I didn't miss anything other than sleep.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Well, I'm sorry you had a bad traveled experience. Congratulations
to Danny and his new bride and a very smart
young man because he scheduled his wedding on a buck
eye bye week, so kudos to him.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, good for him. And you know it's funny. I
was actually flying through Chicago last night on her way
back home and trying to grab something to eat on
the way, and some of the guys that were working
at the place that we stopped, I had an Ohio
State shirt on, and they were like, hey, you guys
should have treated Manning a little bit better than what
(01:31):
you did in that game against Texas, And I said,
come on now. And the point is, Ohio State is
such a wild national brand, and when we're off for
a week, it just seems like the entire college football
season comes to al. Dude a Buckeye fan, but excited
for this opportunity where they go on the road for
(01:51):
the very first time against a really high powered University
of Washington football team that's been putting up points.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Like, yeah, they beat their rival on the road. It
was like fifty nine to twenty four over Washington State.
But the huskis got that quarterback can play. I think
he's a pass first guy, if I'm not mistaken, Jeff.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
He's a bit of a dual threat. He will run
the football, but he is a pass first guy. And
you look at his numbers, he's completing almost seventy four
percent of his passes, six touchdown passes, and you know,
from an interception standpoint, it's a big zero. He has
yet to throw a pick in his first three games,
(02:34):
So you know this is going to be an interesting
opportunity for Ohio State. You remember last year the first
time that we went on the road again, it was
against a top ranked Oregon football team, and Ohio State
came away with a loss in that game. And I
think there's just something about going on the road for
the very first time with a young football team and
(02:57):
a new starting quarterback that makes things a little bit
more difficult.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
And it's my understanding. Husky Stadium is not an easy
place to play. I was talking to Matt about that
a couple of hours ago, and it's just it's loud,
and the fans, if you give them reason to celebrate,
it gets it becomes a really tough part place to play.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Yeah, I've been out there a couple of times, and
I can tell you that the environment out there is
really college football one on one. I mean, it is
just spectacular and you know the views over the bay there.
People tailgate in their boats coming up to Husky Stadium,
and it is it is a wild, crazy place. To
(03:35):
play the director of athletics out there is a former
Ohio State assistant athletic director under Gene Smith. His name
is Pat Chun and Pat was over at Washington State
for a while and then took a job at Washington
and has been doing a great job. And you know,
they've gone through some coaching changes because when they had
(03:56):
success out there, some of the other programs decided to
go pluck their head football coaches. So they've had to
redevelop who they are and what they're all about, and
through the portal and through recruiting, they've done a really
good job.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Jeff Buckey's are favored on Saturday. It's a three thirty
kickoff by thirteen and a half, essentially two touchdowns. Seems
about fair. It seems like a situation where, you know,
it could be a little bit like you know, when
we saw the ou Bobcats come in, where it's a
bit of a tussle early on, and then, as is always,
the Kareem rises to the top.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
You know, I think you got to be careful comparing
this one to the ou Bobcats. But I think the
type of game you just talked about, Mike is probably predictable.
The one thing that Washington has not done a great
job on is stopping people on the defensive side. You know,
they've played really nobody. Washington State's not very good, but
(04:51):
Washington State put up a bunch of points on them,
and I just think this is one of those games
where Ohio State's got to go in there. They've got
to change the code, if you will, for demand Williams
the starting quarterbacks for them and turn him into a
mistake because right now he has been near perfect running
that Husky offense.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Well, then, Jeff, the next question on that is you
don't want Washington get off to a fast start. And
Matt Patricia's defense does a wonderful job of disguising their looks.
Is this something that you're going to see against Washington?
And number two, are we going to see rvel Rees
a lot as a spy kind.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Of deal with the quarterback. Yeah, a good point, Campy,
And I think that the magic that Matt Patricia has
been bringing will continue to develop over the season. So
lots of different looks and moving people around. That seems
to be the new thing in football is taking a
guy like Arvil Reese who is an impact player and
(05:52):
lining him up at different positions on the defense and
just trying to figure out where he is and what
he's going to do. And you know, spy the quarterback,
keep them in the pocket and make sure that you
can try and control things. You know. I just I
just think this is going to be a big challenge
for Ohio State. I think they're up to it. But
(06:13):
and I think the thirteen points is a respectable number.
Somebody was asking me, you know, over the weekend, what
do you think Ohio State will be favored by it?
I said, I think it'll probably be three touchdowns, But
that shows my lack of respect for this new member
of the Big Ten Conference.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
See, I think I agree with you, Jeff. I think
it's going to be way more than thirteen points. I
think it's going to be closer to three touchdowns. But
you know, I'll join you in eating Crow if that's
not the case and it's a closer game than that.
This past weekend, Jeff, were you surprised to see the
way that Indiana handled Illinois That I thought Indiana might win,
(06:52):
but not like that.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
I was shocked. Everybody had put all their money and
their thoughts towards the Illinois being maybe the surprise team,
the new Indiana if you will, from last season in
the Big Ten Conference this year, and for Indiana to
come out and do what they did, I mean, it
was absolutely amazing what they were able to accomplish out there.
(07:16):
I mean, I was just shocked by that game. And
it gives you some idea of the depth of the
Big Ten. I think we're still learning who's really good
and who's not in the Big Ten Conference. And Indiana
looks like they have retooled things a little bit. And
you know, we don't have them on our regular schedule,
(07:36):
so the only time we would see Indiana would be
either in the Big Ten championship game or possibly in
the playoffs. So we do have Illinois on the road.
I think Illinois is a much better team than what
was evidence there by that score. But my goodness, Indiana
was shockingly good.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Yeah, two really good teams in the Big Ten playing
this weekend Penn State Oregon Saturday Night. But this weekend, Jeff,
and of course you get the Black Eyes at three
point thirty on the road at Washington. You've got Oregon
Penn State Saturday night. That should be a good game
and You've got Ryder Cup this weekend. It's a heck
of a sports weekend.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Well, I think it's a terrific It's going to require
two or three television screens or something like to be
able to, you know, keep up with things the way
that they're going. So I think that environment over State
College Pennsylvania is obviously going to be special, and I
think this is going to be a watermark game for
(08:33):
penn State University. There's no more excuses. You've got everybody
coming back, you've got the game at home, you've got
the white out, you've got everything going for you. And
if there's some way they can lock James Franklin in
the locker room and let everybody else coach, they've got
a chance to win that game.
