Speaker 1 (00:00):
Glad you're listening this morning.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
When we want to check in with our good friend,
it's Dan Snell on the Legacy Retirement Group dot com
phone line. Dan you can find at the winsomeway dot com.
He's got a book of the same name spend some
time on the Amazon bestseller list. I always good to
check in, Dan Snell. Hope you had a great Christmas
and a happy New Year.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Dan.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
I am doing, Dandy Mike. It's always great to be
with you and your Columbus listener seventeen days. I'll bet
they're hungry and eager to just hear your voice and
be uplifted all across the great Columbus land.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
And see that's the winsomeness coming out and you. I
appreciate the sentiment there. I don't know if any of
that's true or not, but I appreciate it nonetheless. And
I got to offer my condolences. Your Kansas City chief
did not make the playoffs for the first time in
recent memory.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
But you know, yeah you win, some of you loseack,
but we got a new stadium underway that will be
up by twenty thirty one. But bigger than that, the
real breaking news News is my alma mater. The University
of Nebraska comes to your town tonight. You know, sports
and politics are very close. Is how people get excited
(01:10):
about them and the undefeated, top ten rank Tusker's play
Ohio State tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
We should have probably had this conversation tomorrow and maybe
it would be a different tone and tenor to heer winsomeness.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Yeah, that's right, So let's let's.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Dip into a little bit of politics.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Saturday morning, you woke up, Dan to the news that
Venezuelan Nick Maduro was no longer in power, you know,
an office which he was obtained illegally. At a different conversation,
but when you woke up and you heard that, what
was the first thing that went through your mind?
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Well, the first thing was that, you know, I knew
it was coming, and I knew that Donald Trump, for
one thing, he does not really bluff when it comes
to certain things, especially around the military, because he does
like to use our might to an act change across
the world. And you know a few days earlier at Christmas,
he had bombed in Nigeria. I mean, so many things
(02:07):
in the seventeen days you were gone, I know, there's
always so many things that take place across the country.
The news happens about every two or three days. It
seems like that's big. We went from Minnesota scandal to
Madua all the time you were away. But I thought,
you know, I thought, well, I think President Trump's had
a right to do it. I think obviously always his
(02:32):
tone and his words could be changed a little bit afterwards,
and so he'll be able to walk some of those back.
But I think we did the right thing in that Venezuela,
in many ways, was something that America should take a
look at, as with Cuba and Colombia when it comes
to various things. So a lot of people will be shocked.
There'll be a lot of rhetoric back and forth and
(02:53):
demands can we do this? Can we not do that?
But I think it's acceptable to do it. It's just
how we did move forward.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
I think you're exactly right the way you said that.
I mean, you look at Maduro. He was a tyrant, dictator, murderer,
drug trafficker, sponsor of terrorism, he stole an election, and
you look at you. For me, it begins and ends
with the Venezuelan people and how they reacted should tell
you pretty much all you need to know. They were
dancing in the streets of Caracas. They were very celebratory,
(03:24):
very happy. And then you look at the folks who
support Maduro and it's the Cubans, the Russians, the Chinese,
some Democrats. And that's the part that gets me, is
the and you mentioned it, the rhetoric, you know, talking about,
well there was no congressional approval. Well, you know what,
there was no congressional approval when Obama went in and
(03:45):
got bin Laden and I think we all celebrated that
equally as well. So you know, is that just trying
to score cheap political points there dan from the Democrats.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Well, I think you're always going to have that either side.
If a democratic president would have done it, then there
would have been people talking about it from the Republican side.
So that's just an Unfortunately, the nature of the feed
is the is the back and forth. And you know,
as we come into twenty twenty six is a big year,
so a lot of things have to happen from both parties.
We have the election coming up. A number of people
(04:16):
aren't seeking reelection because they feel like Washington's gotten too
out of control. You know, I think it's interesting that
last year, it's been almost one hundred years since our
United our leaders in Washington did so little. There were
only thirty eight bills that came through Congress. Thirty eight bills.
And yes, President Trump did a lot of things with
(04:38):
bold executive orders. But Congress needs to get back to
work to what the things they're supposed to be doing,
rather than what's the topic or the hearing we're going
to call the hearing of the week. But there's a
lot of things death, social security, affordability Ukraine. There's a
lot of things we should be talking about rather than
what's the hot topic of the week.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
You're right, you mentioned you know midterms and elections coming
up this year, and you know one of those was
going to be Tim Walls and he is expected to
have a new news conference today and a lot of
people speculating that he is going to step away from
that campaign amidst all of the fraud allegations. And you
referenced that earlier in Minnesota with the Somalian community there
(05:21):
and the fake daycare centers and the.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Fake home healthcare operations.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
A lot of that is happening in Columbus as well,
we have a very high Somali population here too. Your
thoughts on that's that's something you know, the madual thing
doesn't necessarily affect people day to day, but when you
start talking about taxpayer dollars being you know, defrauded and
(05:48):
going to operate these businesses that don't really do what
they say they're going to do. I would rather have
my tax dollars spent on a military operation eliminating an
oppressive dictator who runs drugs into this country and around
the world world, then to be spent on a fraudulent
daycare center in Minneapolis.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yeah, good, good points. I think one of the things
that Washington DC, I came up through the lower ranks
of elected being at the city level, state level as
an elected official, and the thing that they do at
the city level and the county level and even the
state level of the way that they manage their spending
and have to give credit. I think Bill Clinton used
(06:25):
always say it's the spending stupid, and I really do
think we need to have better control. Elon Musk tried
to put in some controls to better track the spending,
but we do we do just pass bills and then
they have earmarked funds, and all of a sudden we
don't really follow where those funds go and how they're spent,
and that have to be to me, that's more important
(06:47):
than whatever happens to the governor of Minnesota, is what's next,
Where do we go? What's the solution? You know, thes
of Winsome stands for be a solutioneer, and what's the
solution to this out of control spending
