Speaker 1 (00:00):
Seven thirty eight on the Legacy Retirement Group dot com
phone line. Let's welcome in political strategist and our buddy
in politics and leadership. It's Dan Snell. Dan. I hope
you had a good weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Good morning, I did. Thank you, Mike. It's always great
to be with you and your Columbus listeners.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Thank you. Great to hear your voice as well, Sir.
Did you get enough Blue Jeans commercials and Sydney Sweeney
over the weekend?
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah? It was the Coldplate concerts the two weeks before that,
and then it was Sidney Sweeney this weekend at Clintviral.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yeah. On the list of things that don't really matter,
but we love to talk about that stuff. And hopefully
that's got a short fuse and that thing can move on,
because that's just just dominating for the last three or
four days. But I do want to get your thoughts
on this. I see a group of GOP senators are
rallying behind Health and Human Services Secretary RFK Junior. He
(00:54):
is attempting to reform the US Preventative Services Task Force.
What is that and what does it do well?
Speaker 2 (01:02):
The Preventive Service Task Force really looks at how do
we create situations where we can look ahead instead of
just treating illness. Look ahead and with some potential testing.
And I just think that the job that RFK Junior
doing is tremendous. I mean I literally go last week
when he announced the initiative to restore you know, his
(01:27):
his uncle JFK's the President's Council on Physical Fitness or
Sports Fitness and Nutrition in this case, I mean, I
just said, Wow, that's what this country needs is to
pay attention and get our youth. And I say with
a smile, because I'm I might be considered a seasoned citizen.
We should do the same thing for senior citizens and
(01:48):
have some kind of fitness tests and kind of get
people being proud of their health again. But with this
task force, back to your question, With this task force,
there's some people that are in existing positions and on
the committee that came in the previous administration. And yes,
that administration went too far to the left, and so
I think they're trying to straighten straighten the ship, to
(02:08):
get it a little bit more either centered or people
that believe in what President Trump's trying to do. So
some senators called it radical lookeness, I'd prefer to just say,
let's just just just make common sense back to it.
And Kennedy's doing a great job.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Well, I'm glad you use the term common sense because
that really seems to what RFK is Junior is doing
is just bringing some common sense approaches to some things.
Whether you agree one hundred percent with everything and he's
done or not. But when you look at all of
these the food dyes that you could potentially cause cancer,
but you know, it's just easier for these you know,
(02:44):
big food companies to make these products with these dyes,
and they're all starting to kind of fall in line
and limit like why would we need, you know, red
dye number three if it's going to be harmful to us?
And you know, it's funny that people are opposing some
of these moves. It's like, wait a minute, you're full,
youre four potentially cancer causing food dies in certain products
(03:06):
just because RFK Juniors and part of the Trump administration
that is head scratching. But anyway, what does he want
to do? Was so what changes does he want to
make to the uspst F.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
I think you wants to bring on people that more
think in a way that's aligned with and he certainly
has a right to do that. I think it's important
that that the American people support our whoever is our president,
and in this case with Health and Human Services, Kennedy
has drawing some really some really powerful and compelling evidence
(03:41):
based type improvements, and we need to just do that now.
And you know, I wrote the book to win some candidate,
trying to get people to really be wins, not not
going too far or name calling things like that. I
think it's also important that on either side, because we
were too far in the last a minute, we got
too far to the left and progressive scenarios. But if
(04:08):
we go my only concern is and for the good
of the country, the place we call home, that Kennedy
do choose people that it's not just people that are
too far to the right, because then, unfortunately, as politics change,
we don't want to have the ship always throwing people
off the ship and one way or the other depending
(04:29):
on who's in the White House or who's in the administration.
So I think Kennedy will do I hope he will
do a good job of trying to choose people that
are common sense and yes, conservative, but not so far
that it makes it tough for the country to stay
steady should anything ever change down the road.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Speaking with Dan Snow, our political analyst and strategists on
Sixten DOUBTVN, I want to get your thoughts on the
other story that's sort of making news this morning, Dan,
and that is the Texas Democrats have left the state.
They have left the building to try to prevent the
redistricting that's going on there. They are hoping to prevent
(05:10):
Republicans from voting on the new congressional maps there that
would heavily favor the GOP. So they just left the state.
They went to Chicago, leaving Republicans without the two thirds
majority that they need to pass that redistricting plan. And
this is all ahead of the twenty twenty six midterms.
Your thoughts on that is that just a performative thing.
(05:31):
I mean, they can't stay out of the state forever.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Yeah, yeah, that is sadly, it's lappable. I mean that
took place I think about three or four years ago
they did the same thing. I don't remember the issue,
but this is not the first time that they've done that.
And that thing. As a leader, you are called to
stand and articulate your position, not just run out the
(05:57):
door so that you can not have to vote. So
it's a sad thing. You know, it's politics, and that's
the ugly side of public service, which what it should
be about an elective office, public service, but the ugly
side of public services. Politics, if that's Texas is not
getting a good look right now, especially the Democrats, I
think nationwide. You know, I believe a two party system,
(06:20):
we should be able to have conversations and agree to disagree,
but still keep the country moving forward. But it's gotten
so too much bickering and it's just a woesome way
to lead if you're going to do things like that
they in Texas.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Do you see I mean, it's not uncommon for a
midterm election to swing the other direction from the party
that's currently in power in the White House. Do you
see that happening in a year from now.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Well, historically that's always happened, but you know, anything can
happen with President Trump has been doing a lot of
tremendous things. There's a lot of good things happening. You know,
RFK is doing good things. His administration is doing some thinks.
Sometimes we take a look at it if the progress
really you have to look to about jan next January
(07:08):
or March to really answer that question, because anything can happen.
If the tariffs prove to not be damaging when it
comes to the economy and we're most areas, then the
people are going to be happy with where we're going.
So it's really too early to tell, but historically, yeah,
the shift takes place, and then we just get in
(07:30):
a log jam hoping that these policies prove right and
we can stay the course.
