Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sixty six in the morning, Mike Elliott, Columbus's Morning News.
Let's check in with our pal Rory O'Neil NBC News
Radio on the Legacy Retirement Group dot com phone line, Rory.
Day eight government shutdown seems like the sort of real
major pinch point or pain point right now is with
the air traffic control systems and TSA Airport's experiencing a
(00:21):
lot of delays the last couple of days.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah, and it looks like that may get worse with
more of these air traffic controllers and TSA workers calling
in sick because technically they're not getting paid, and we're
hearing rumblings out of the White House that maybe people
won't be getting their back pay. And of course this
can cause a lot of disruption, especially for aviators like Columbus.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
How about that. Look at you.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Now you have you aviators have to face our storm
the orlandos.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Oh yeah, yeah, maybe get a little rivalry going in
the spring.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
We have Columbus crew in Orlando City soccer, so that's
another anyway. Yeah, yeah, we are seeing a lot more
of these flight disruptions sort of creep into the system.
Today is going to get interesting. Day to watch also
because a lot of bad weather hitting different parts of
the country. A big blotch it in the northeast as well,
so we could be seeing a lot more disruptions as
(01:16):
these become more common.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Well, what I don't like, Rory is this notion of
no back pay. I mean, you want to the government
shut down and you withhold payment for certain folks, but
once it reopens, I think you owe those folks back pay,
and I think that's a mistake.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
All right, let me ask a good question then. All right, Now,
say you are a research scientist secretary and your office
has been closed for the two weeks. Should that secretary
get back pay for the two weeks compared to the
TFA guy who still has to show up and do
the job.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
If you're not working, then no. But these if these
folks are working, then yes they should receive back pay.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
But under this scenario even the secretary would get her
back pay. So should she get paid for two or
three weeks or thirty five days or entrance? And then
why should she get punished? Not her fault?
Speaker 1 (02:12):
It's an interesting argument. I just think, if you're working,
do you want to work with no pay? I mean,
I know You could probably make a bunch of jokes
there now, but I don't want to work with.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Don't give anybody any idea
