Speaker 1 (00:00):
Six forty five, Thursday morning, October second, Mike Elliott, Columbus's
Morning News. We are day two the federal government shutdown.
Let's get more now with Rory O'Neil, NBC NewsRadio on
the Legacy Retirement Group dot com phone line. All right,
any progress for Rory? Where are we?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yeah, we are where we started this whole shutdown. The
Senate did have a couple more votes yesterday trying to
pass the House bill that would keep the government open
through November twenty first, but same result. One Republican on
the Democratic side and three Democrats or those who caucus
with Democrats on the Republican side, but they didn't get

(00:38):
those sixty votes that are needed to pass that continuing resolution.
Now today essentially a holiday on Capitol Hill for Yan Kapor.
Maybe they'll come back tomorrow, but really not expecting much
of a swing here. Look, until people start experiencing pain
from this and there are real world effects, this is
going to keep on bubbling along with the talking heads

(00:58):
doing a lot of shouting.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
And now that's a really good point, and we were
talking earlier when we started the show. It's like, you know,
day two, have you felt any of the effects yet,
And the resounding answer at this point is no, not really.
Even those that are showing up to work and not
necessarily getting paid, they'll feel the pinchwin payday comes along,
which I don't know what the federal government pay schedule

(01:20):
is like, but as of right now, most people Okay,
so so a couple of weeks before people start to
really feel any pain on this well, right, and you.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Know, but you're also going to see it in other ways.
I was just talking to someone else who said, you know,
their TSA app wasn't being updated, so they're a little
bit you know, stuck in that right now. And there
are a few other things if you're waiting for a passport,
if you do need to apply for Social Security, or
you know, there's so many other small little things. Hey, look,
our food is not getting inspected like it normally does

(01:50):
right now. Well, neither are newly manufactured aircraft. So you know,
there are some things that you might not experience immediately first,
and but they're out there.

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
