Speaker 1 (00:00):
Six forty six on the Legacy Retirement Group dot com
phone line NBC News Radios. Rory O'Neil joins us. And
it's hard to believe that it's August fifth, Rory, and
we're talking about buying Christmas decorations. But you know, people
like to be ahead of these things, and everyone loves
to go out and do that kind of thing. And
I would imagine Halloween decorations too, But we're seeing the

(00:20):
prices go up this year and tariff's one of the reasons. Why.
What's the story.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yeah, you know, we really started all this tariff talk
just at the time that a lot of these companies
were ordering the Christmas decorations that will be on store
shelves probably for Labor Day, if not sooner. But yeah,
that's only a month away. So that's been one of
the issues that these companies were trying to buy stuff
for a time. Remember the tariff on Chinese imports was

(00:46):
one hundred and forty five percent, and facing that, a
lot of companies, especially smaller storeses I just can't order
that much stuff anymore because I don't have the cash
for it to bring in that inventory. So we're going
to see fewer ice on the store shelves for the holiday.
It's fewer holiday items like lights and ornaments and things

(01:06):
like that that would be imported from China. And what
is there will probably be ten or twenty percent higher.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
And it is that that stuff is produced mainly in China,
is it not? The lights and the ornaments and that
kind of thing. Is that's the majority The majority of
that does come from overseas.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
There are three companies in China that do most all
of it. Okay, yeah, again this is all just that timing.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
How often do you buy Christmas stuff? Because I mean
typically it's something that I you know, we'll test in November,
plug them in. If the lights all work, then you know,
we're good for another year.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
If the strand goes bad, then yeah you got to
go to run the hardware store and get a new one.
But I don't we don't replace that stuff very often.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Well yeah, I think it's incremental. Right, there's one bad strand,
you get a thing, you go, okay, we're going to
do this, or you try to you know, build on
what you've had previously. Oh let's get new you know,
fake reafs for the door or whatever. It may be
you know, you tend to buy something. It's not as
Zuo's some uh you know there tends to be something
spent
