Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay, now let's get to business. Coach Bill Conley on
the Legacy Retirement Group dot com phone line. Coach won
a national championship with the Ohio State buck Eyes played
at the Shoe and now is a part of our
best Buckeye coverage. And before we get into the Big
Ten championship game, coach, give.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Me, give me a recap on the Michigan game.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
And my eye looks like Ohio State dominated the team
up north in all phases of the game.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
They sure did. But Mike, I want to thank you
right off the bat. You have just given me a
great little titbit for know thy enemy. If we ever
played Virginia.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Virginia, there you go. I'll send you the story.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
I need that one.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
That's that sounds That's why I wanted to get to that.
That sounds like something you would appreciate.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
I love that.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Yes, we dominated him every aspect of the game and
especially and what the greatest thing is once we got
ahead him, we pounded them, physically pounded them. Yeah, you know,
kept the ball for long drives and oh is a
thing of beauty.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
I was just talking.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
You know, it's good when you start seeing a lot
of the home crowd leave and the Buck guy faith
will starts working their way toward the sideline. It's a
wonderful thing.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
There was a lot of scarlet and gray at the
Big House on Saturday, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
And you mentioned, you know, keeping long drives.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
I mean that one of those final drives I was
talking to Campi about that was like twelve minutes. I mean, yeah,
it's just you can't win the game if you can't score.
And you know, they just kept the Michigan offense off
the field, and he mentioned, you know, pounding them.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
I mean the running game the last three or four games.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
And we talked about this early in the season, that
was the one component if we had to, you know,
complain about something, that was the one component that was missing.
And the last three or four games, the Bluck guys
have been running the ball pretty well.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
They really have. You know, we got to a point
where we got it close in terms of run pass attempts,
and now we're the point we're running the ball a
little bit there, then we're passing terms of toty yards.
You know, we're still throwing the ball great. But the
Buckeyes played outstanding.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
So Saturday at eight o'clock in Indianapolis.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
You've got two undefeated teams in the Big Ten championship game,
two of the best quarterbacks in college football, the winner
likely odds on favorite to win the Heisman. Of course,
you're talking about Mendoza from Indiana and Julian saying here
at Ohio.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
State, how do you see this game playing out?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Well, I'll tell you what you're right about, having two
outstanding quarterbacks and if a guy can throw three or
four touchdown passes and dominate the other team, great chance
of winning. But you know, I think it's going to
be one of those things a lot like Michigan. I
think for ohiuse it would be a great thing. If
we can get ahead, then you know, keep the ball,
count them a little bit, and keep them all away

(02:44):
from their offense because they're explosive offense. It's funny, Mike,
you look at stats and offensively they're better than we
are in a Big Ten and almost everything set passing offense.
But then you turn on the defensive side. We're ahead
of them almost everything on defensive side of the ball
except rush defense. So I mean, the stats are so close.

(03:07):
I don't know if we've had a game all year
where the teams both are that productive both sides of
the ball.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
So, coach, I think, would you say that the advantage
for Ohio State is their delivered approach and the way
they play offense.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
I mean, because of the long drives.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
That you're talking about, they're keeping the ball and the
defense gets rested. So Indiana might be forced to try to,
you know, throw the ball down the field a little
bit further get a score quick, which would play right
into Ohio State's hands. So would you take the ball
first if you're Ohio State because normally we've deferred and
let the defense take over, you know, late in the
first half, get the ball first in the second.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Half, you know, I think with the way the rules
are now, camping with the clock and everything like that,
I think I'd take the ball almost every time first.
Maybe not in a bad weather situation or something like that,
but in terms of our offense being as good as
it is, I definitely would want the football first. But
you know, it's the hit coaches called.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Coach.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
I kind of hate this discussion when you talk about
strength of schedule because I mean, it's something that the
teams can't control. But it is interesting in this discussion
because both Indiana and Ohio State have had shaky schedule, right,
I mean, if you look at Indiana, they beat Oregon.
That's probably the best win amongst both teams. Oregon is still,

(04:24):
you know, hanging in there in the College Football Playoff.
I think they're number five at this point. That was
their best win, but they've had kind of a cake
walk ever since. For the buck Eyes, I mean, they
beat Texas, I don't know how good Texas is, and
they beat Michigan. I mean those are I guess you
had to say signature wins. I don't know how good
those teams are, so I don't I don't have a

(04:46):
good feel. You know, neither team has had to rally
or come from behind.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
And I guess Indiana did struggle.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
A couple of weeks, but the schedules for these squads
have not been that tough.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Well, m funny Mike is that look at the schedule.
Even as a Big ten, the two teams haven't played
that many teams alike, maybe four or five because there's
so many The schedules so different now because there's so
many teams. But you look at the Southeast Conference, you
know they play some tough games against each other and stuff,

(05:19):
but also they got some cake walks too. A couple
of teams last week play some SCS teams, so you know,
it's one of those things that you know, the important
thing is perform when you do have a chance. But
this should be a great game. I think one thing
we've got to do, we've got to really be have
ball security because this team has been unbelievable in the

(05:40):
turnover margin and they have intercepted sixteen passes and recover
eight fumbles. I mean that's amazing.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Neutral site and inside the dome, you know, on the turf,
is that is that a good thing?

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Do we like that?

Speaker 1 (05:53):
I mean, whether it won't be a factor, you know,
it seems like if you can get that passing game
going for Ohio State inside look out.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yeah, I agree with you. I think this time of year,
I think overall we've got better. Even though they get
good skill athletes, I think we're better. And you want
a neutral filled with a little factor from the weather. Definitely,
that's definitely a plus. Of the pods.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Buck guys are favored by five and a half at
this point. I like them a little bit more than that.
I'm thinking eight to maybe eight to ten points when
it's all said and done.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
How do you feel about the line?

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Yeah, I agree with you. I think you should be
able to higher the one thing I wouldn't think we
can take banjo offensively. If you ever watch film on
these guys, their linebackers are really downhill linebackers. What to
mean to that is they attack the line scrimmage. I
mean you show a good run fake they want to
come run into the line of scrimming, just really going
to open up some scenes behind them and underneath their safety.

(06:47):
So I think there's some things we can take advantage of.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
That's a great tip something to look forward to there.
Coach Bill Connley, you're going to hear them tomorrow night
six o'clock. Bucks line from Legacy Retirement Group and as
a part of that broadcast fan favorite segment, and that
is no thine enemy blooming not Bloomington.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Why am I?

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Why am I spacing on Indiana? You're right Blue, Yeah,
you're a Kilmington Indiana. Yeah, just a brain freeze there.
So what do we know about the Aligini and Bloomington
and Indiana or the Hoosiers.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
See, I'm all messed up now, no Thineana men.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
Coach, all right, I'm going to give you to them.
First of all, did you know that Woody Hayes's first
year nineteen fifty one, they lost to Indiana. Okay, what
do you said after the game pulled? The reporter said,
I will never lose to that team again. What are
his record after that? Twenty two and one?

Speaker 2 (07:42):
He was right, he was absolutely right. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
But here's the thing. This is again with those public
service announcements for anybody traveling over to Indiana. Yes, this
weekend for the game. If you decided have extra time
goes to the later game, you might want to go
fishing if the ponds aren't frozen. But here's what you
can't do, and you'll get a rested immediately. Indiana. If
you taser or through a stick of dynamite of fish,

(08:07):
I can't do that.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
I can't do that.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
No, no, no, no tasing the wildlife? Can you get
a raccoon? Drunken and Indian and asked the question.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
I'm sure it's been tried before

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Sure it hasked
