Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's about ten after eights as we are now looking

(00:03):
at the top twelve teams in the country, Ohio State
being the number two seed.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Let's check in. He is an Ohio State Hall of Famer.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
He ran the ball for the buck Eyes number thirty four,
part of our Best Buckeye coverage Jeff Logan Jeffrey Buckeyes
earned the number two seed to a college football playoff
poll first round by they'll play the winner of Miami
in Texas A and m in the Cotton Bowl seven
thirty December thirty, first New Year's Eve in Arlington, Texas.
After the first loss of the season in the Big

(00:35):
Ten Championship thirteen to ten to Indiana.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Your initial thoughts LOGI.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Well, if you were to give me the situation we're
in today, back in back in August, the beginning of
the season, I would have told you that I would
be thrilled that Ohio State is a top four seed
and you know, has a buy before they have to
step into the playoffs. So from that standpoint, I think
it's good. But it's still disappointing not to be able

(01:00):
to win a Big Ten championship, and it's still hard
to believe that you lost it to Indiana.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
It is again, it's a very good team.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
I mean, you and I are have been around long
enough to understand that Indiana has never been in this position,
and that's why it's a little head scratching.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
But I mean, you got to give credit to the Hoosiers.
They do have a good squad.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
They're the real deal, There's no question about it. And
you know what's really impressed me about this year's Indiana
football team compared to last year's not necessarily the play
of the quarterback, though that's better this year than it
was a year ago. But their defense has gotten really,
really good. They've got dudes on the other side where
they didn't maybe have that kind of of depth or

(01:44):
speed last year. And you know, I thought the matchup
of Jeremiah Smith against his former high school teammate last
name is Pond. You know, we had a six foot
three versus a five foot nine Vanage there and we
just couldn't take advantage of it.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
So, you know, this game came down.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
To two or three plays like it always does in
a championship game, and Indiana made the plays and Ohio
State didn't.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, a couple of stall drives in the red zone.
I mean the missed field goal.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Maybe some I guess if you wanted to get nitpicky
and talk about some play calling, some conservative play calling,
we could probably go there. But I mean, of the
games of the championship games this weekend, the Big Ten
Championship was I think was the least consequential. All they
did was flip Ohio State in Indiana.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Yeah, and I think going into the game, we felt
as though if it was close, and obviously this one was,
it was only a three point margin, that both teams
would obviously remain in the top four. And I think
what the committee did is to make sure that there
wasn't a rematch of these two teams in the semi finals,
and so making them one two puts them in that

(02:55):
position where if we see it again, it's going to
be in the finals for the national.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Champions Wouldn't that be something else where We've talked about
that since we've had this, this twelve team format, and
that would be that would be wild.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
So let's let's look at the playoff.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
I mean, Jeff, is twelve teams too many when you're
including Tulane and the James Madison Dukes in the top
twelve football teams in the country.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Are you sure we need twelve teams?

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Well, I think I think twelve works. I think the
rule to be able to establish the twelve needs to
be fixed, because you when you take these two teams
and you leave out the likes of Notre Dame and
others that are out there that are much better than
any of these other two teams. You know, they've they've
given a pass to the Group of five, the Group

(03:43):
of six, and you know, the way that Duke beat
Virginia this week really screwed things up. The ACC gets
nobody in, you know, from their championship game. So of
those two they're they're out, and that opened the door
for them to make some other decisions with respect to this.
I just I just think the selection process needs to
be fixed. And thank goodness, we're not fans of Notre

(04:06):
Dame because they got screwed a bod deal. And I'm
not a Notre Dame fan. I could care less about them.
And I think the decision that they made to opt
out of the Bowl season altogether after they got snubbed,
and you know, here's the deal. Notre Dame was ahead
of Miami in the rankings, whether you like it or not,

(04:28):
for the last four or five weeks, neither of the
two teams played. How do you flip the switch in
the final decision to move Miami ahead of them if
you didn't have them there the three or four weeks
prior to that. And I get it, head to head
should matter, but if it matters, it should have mattered
three weeks ago. Not here at the final.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Well, that's exactly right.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
And again no fan of Notre Dame here either, But
they got screwed, and I think their decisions. Some are
calling them, well, they're just sore losers for you know,
they're not going to accept a bowl. You can play
a bowl anywhere. Their season is effectively over. I don't
blame them.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
If you're not going to see it through and put
us in the playoff, then you're not going to you know,
the networks aren't going to make money.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
You're not gona make money on us on a bowl game.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
I agree with you. And you know, they're not part
of any kind of of a league or anything that
they've got to be worried about, you know, revenue that's
coming from other places. And in fact, the Big twelve
find both Iowa State and Kansas State for opting out
of the bulls as well this year because they're going
through coaching changes, which I understand. I mean, how do

(05:34):
you prepare a team for that?

Speaker 2 (05:35):
But you know, Notre.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Dame's sitting out there, and I just I just think
that the process twelve is the right number. Don't have sixteen.
We don't need to expand it. We just need to
do a better job of selecting the best teams in America, Jeff.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Moving forward in the playoffs, Ohio State is either going
to face Miami Florida or Texas A and M both
solid teams. With Ohio State, you're at the end of
the year and you've established who you are or have you?
My question is is Ohio State still holding back a
little bit? I feel like there's more to come from
that tank for Ohio State, especially on offense.

Speaker 5 (06:11):
Well, I think that they've they've been very I don't
want to say conservative, because I don't think that's the case.
I've been very tactful in terms of how they've approached
things and how they've tried to attack defenses throughout the year.
You know, we're not taking the top off of defenses.
But that's because the defenses are playing so deep on us,

(06:33):
so a lot of the underneath throws and everything else.
There's so much fear of our ability to get the
ball deep. The defenses are giving up stuff underneath, and
we're just taking what the defense gives and that frustrates
a lot of people from a standpoint of not being
as explosive maybe as some of these other teams are
that are out there.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
So you're looking at Texas A and M and Miami
that is seven on Saturday night, Texas A and M
favored by four.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Which team would you rather play?

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Well, you know, both teams are really solid. I think
that the thing with both of them are their offenses
are not as good as their defenses. And if I
had to choose one in terms of who would we
have the best opportunity, I'd rather go up against Miami
of Florida than Texas Tech. I think Texas Tech has
got a terrific defensive line. And if you look at

(07:25):
the statistics from Saturday against Indiana, you know we had
fourteen negative plays, including five quarterback sacks, and I think
Julian Sayan was sacked six times all season long. And
we got him sacked five times in this game. So
we've got to work hard on the offensive line and
the strategy to move the pocket a little bit, to
give just Julian saying, a little bit more room
