Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, And by the way, the victory bell ringer,
(00:03):
Yeah on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
You see who it is, Jerry Lucas. How about that?
That's awesome. And I didn't.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Realize that both Clark Kellogg and Michael redd have already
done it this season.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
I did not know that though.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Yeah, some Buckeye basketball greats jumping in the fray. But
Jerry Lucas ringing the victory bell before the the U
c l A game Saturday night, I.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Would argue he is the best Ohio State basketball player ever.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
I don't know if you have to argue no, I
mean he was the first player to ever become a
champion at every level. Yeah, high school, college, NBA, won
a gold medal, guys, a stun.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
What else is there to win?
Speaker 1 (00:37):
There isn't besides the game on Saturday night, and Jerry
Lucas will ring that bell all right on the Legacy
Retirement Group dot com phone line, let's say bring him in.
Coach Bill Conley won a national championship with the Ohio
State buck Eyes and big beautiful Bill Conley, how are
you this morning, sir?
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Oh get you everywhere?
Speaker 1 (00:57):
I'm good, good man good. So I've got the Bruins
coming in. This is a kind of a different, kind
of a weird team. I mean, they they beat Penn State.
Everybody's beating Penn State. They beat Michigan State, they beat Maryland,
and they beat sort of the you know, the the
bottom feeders of the Big Ten. Indiana smoked them back.
(01:19):
You know it was last month, fifty six to six.
Nebraska got them last week. So you don't really know
what you're gonna get with this Bruins team.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Yeah, they're a little different. I mean, if you take
their quarterback out, you know, nico ahma Ava, I just
sa again a malay Ava.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
I'm glad. I'm gonna let you say it, man, because
I'm not gonna even.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
Here's the thing. They just start off with a fifteen
penalty personal foul. We're having some goofy names on.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Just back them up right from the hop, just back
them up.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
Well, you know what, his brother's on the team too,
Is he really the freshman quarterback? Hey, listen to this
one that got to dan Adam A Lala Kyle is
Titus Kyo la La? What the heck? You know who
(02:14):
I hope has a good name for them. The game
for them is their nose tackle. Because his name is
Gary Smith. I hope he's a heck of a game.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
I'm rooting for Gary Smith. That's a heck of a too.
Gary Smith getting it done. Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Oh that I might need to we might need to
replay that can't be saved. That little clip of Bill
pronouncing those Oh yeah, because that's that's gonna go down
in the archives, Coach Conley, Big beautiful Bill.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
They don't named Bill on the teeth.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Do they name kids Bill anymore? I don't think they
named babies, and not a lot of baby Williams running around.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
It is too easy. That's why they don't call.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
It football is gone right out the windows.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
I may just go and get a cup of coffee
and three and just let hip start pronouncing stuff.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Oh man, oh my god, that is precious.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
So they've got the quarterback though, I mean, I don't know, man,
what do you say about a game like this?
Speaker 2 (03:17):
I mean, they're the Buckeyes are favored by thirty two points.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Other than you know, I've been reading more and more
about the Ohio State offense, maybe not at its full potential,
that they're holding back. Have you noticed that build that
maybe they're they're not hiding something, but they're.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Just they don't need they don't need to play with
urgency right now because the defense is so good exactly right.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
When you're playing that type of demons, when you're number
one in the nation and a lot of different categories,
why do stuff and give it away early if you
don't have to as long as a defense, matter of fact,
as long as defense, because playing them as well as
they are, Mike, I don't care what they run on
offense because you know you're gonna win the game. If
that team don't score you, they can't win.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yeah. No, it drives fans a little crazy.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
I know people there were some people the small you know,
percentage of Buckeye Nation that wants to win by one
hundred and fifty every week. I understand that everybody does that,
but you know, when they go on the road to
beat Purdue by twenty four points and the line was,
you know, thirty, you know, people get a little frustrated.
They want to see this high powered offense kick into
high gear. But to your point, there's no need to.
(04:27):
I mean, you're you're gonna save that for for a
game here in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
I would imagine that's the whole point behind this.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
Oh, exactly right. And you know that when you get
that last game, they've been practicing like eleven minths out
of the year for that one. Oh yeah, they'll be ready.
But you know what, the Rutgers team next week they
get they have some good athletes and they got normal pronouncements.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Gary Smith at center, that's all I got. That's all
I need to know.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Give me, give me some Smith's a gentleman, that's all
I know.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Coach, this team is so deep in talent.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
I think you would, I guess you would think that
the majority of this about keeping these players healthy while
getting the W on the scoreboard. Do you expect to
see more young kids? Because I noticed they were roting him.
They're rotating him in right off the bat against Purdue,
you know, and so you have some of those little
quirks and maybe those little mistakes, but it's certainly better
(05:19):
than getting being banged up getting into the you know,
the team up north.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
Oh, you're right, Campy, And I think that's the best
way to do it. You know what you hate to
see if you play, say your first team defense plays
great and you take him out in the beginning a
fourth quarter or something like that. Then the other team
just runs the ball right down the throat of the
second team. So the best thing to do is filter
those guys in, get them some playing experience with the
ones which will help and only for this year, but
(05:44):
also in their future. Get that's why we're still going
on the defensive front. I mean, Larry Johnson does a
great job of rolling guys in all throughout the game,
and it really shows up because he's never caught, you know,
with a bare closet there. He's always got guys ready
to go in.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Bill, what do you think about the Heisman race right now?
I mean you're seeing and I know it's early, and
it doesn't u As coaches or players, they're going to
tell you they're not concerned with that.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
We're just out to win the next game. And I
understand that.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
But our job as analysts is to kind of look
ahead and speculate on that. I mean, you've got Julian
saying you got Jeremiah Smith number one and number two
in the Heisman right now.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
How does that play out for you?
Speaker 4 (06:27):
Well, first of all, it's often times tough for a
young guy a first year starter to win an award
like that. But saying that he's an exceptional freshman, he
really is. He is really good at what he does,
you know, performing at a very high level, and he
leads the nation a couple of categories as a quarterback.
(06:49):
So I think he's definitely in the running and he
probably has a little advantage over Jeremiah for simple fact
he's a quarterback and for some reason they tend to
lean toward quarterbacks for the award. But I'll tell you what,
both of those guys on the one thing they're going
to be when it's their time, they're going to be
in the top five, both of them of the NFL draft.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Oh, there's no doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Absolutely, And it's a great point about, you know, a
freshman quarterback coming in, a first year quarterback, first year
starter winning a Heisman. So but again, the other side
of that coin is it has You're right, it has
become a quarterbacks award. But so it's gonna be interesting
to see how that goes. And there's still a couple
of games left and we'll see what happens there. But
(07:34):
it will be interesting that early for first weekend of
December when they have the Heisman Trophy presentation.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
To see all.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Those Buckeyes in place there all right tonight of course
Bucks line know that enemy. You're gonna hear that show
after the Blazer Show six to eight tonight from Legacy
Retirement Group.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
What do we know about the u c l A. Bruins.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
It's a strange place, but they do have a law.
I think it's a good law. Okay, you wash your car, right,
you're not allowed You're not allowed to wipe your car
off with used underwear.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
For a good reason, I would imagine. I mean that
good defeats these.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Yeah, and again I always always go back to the
origins of these laws.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Bill, have you done any.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Research as to how that became about? How, at what
point did they come up with the law that you
can't do that? What what happened?
Speaker 4 (08:29):
Well, obviously some guy made a public scene of taking
his underwear up and wiping his car down. That's not good.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
I mean, clean underwear, clean car. You got to have priorities, Coach,
