Speaker 1 (00:00):
AT's Checky with coach Bill Conley. Part of our best
Buckeye coverage. We've got bucks Line tomorrow night. We got
the Gophers on Saturday Nights at the Shoe. Our coverage
of course, bucks Line tomorrow, a coverage on Saturday starts
at four, and Bill Connley a part of that. William
the Gophers coming to Columbus. The Buckeyes are twenty four
and a half point favorites. I mean, I don't know,
(00:20):
what do you what do you say about a game
like this?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
I'll tell you one thing. We have to be ready
because here's the thing, Mike, you have a big win
like we did against Washington, and we got come in
ready to play because they will. I mean PJ. Fleck
has had them prepared a lot, you know, for their
games they've played. They have a really successful season, only
lost one game to Cal Berkeley. But I'll tell you what,
our defense is playing so good, Michael, get score point
(00:47):
on them. I say, really, I'm under six points a game,
come on.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
It's insane.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
And Bill and I mentioned this to Jeff Logan on
Monday when I talked to him, and I was dead
wrong about Matt Patricia this summer when they hired him,
I kind of threw a flag on that higher and
I said, I'm not sure. He hasn't coached at the
college level in a long time. In fact, he hasn't
coached really at all in a long time. He had
a break from the NFL for a while. He didn't
(01:14):
do well as a head coach in Detroit. But boy,
he has got these guys just firing on all cylinders
on d.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
How would you like to try to be an offense
trying to figure out how to block our defense? No,
I say, we are playing so good up front, our
secondary is playing solid, and a good thing about it
is we can get to the quarterback just with our
front four so far and their quarterback, they had to
watch him. That guy was really good, especially carrying them
all third down situations and stuff, and we shut him down.
(01:45):
He had negative yards trying to rush the ball. Of course,
we did have a bunch of sacks too, which helps
out sure. But I tell you what, rbo Reice playing
linebacker there has done a great job and so sunny
all cylinders of defense, for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
And you talk about the offensive side of the ball,
give credit to Julian Sam You got this young kid,
never never played a road game, gets his first start
Big Ten matchup on the road, hostile environment.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
I mean, he was cool as a cucumber.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
You got that right. And I'll tell you what, he'd
better be buying those linemen some stick dinners because they
are protecting him. They got to him one time Washington
Lady game. But I'll tell you what. They are really
playing well run and passed, So both lines, I think
is a really strong point of this football team so far.
And that's a surprise. Normally your lines are the ones
that are the last to really get things going. But
(02:33):
our offensive against the lines are playing great.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Coach this offense, and this is what's scary is they're
not quite clicking on all cylinders just yet, just a
little bit. It seems like just a little bit of
rust here and there. But you know, what would you
like to see as they take on Minnesota on Saturday.
Is there something that you want to see more than
something else?
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Yeah? I think our rushing game. You know, they're really
good against the rush. They're one of the best in
the Big Ten against the rush. And we have you know,
we have become more balanced. You know, we can throw
the ball all over the place side receivers and we
got time to throw it, but we really needed to
stabs the running attack. Bo Jackson has really come on.
We know he had eighty yards in the game the
other day, but if we can get a real good
(03:16):
balance on that run pass, we are gonna be really
tough to defend.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Bill.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
You mentioned you don't want to be an opposing team's
offense coming in having to figure out Matt Patricia's buck eye.
D You know who else you don't want to be
right now is James Franklin.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
I mean, after Oregon.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Oregon handling Penn State at night in Happy Valley, James
Franklin can't win the big one.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
What's the situation in Happy Valley?
Speaker 1 (03:43):
I don't know off the top of my head who
Penn State's got this weekend. I don't know if it matters,
but boy, is he on a hot seat of any kind?
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Is it on a hot seat? I'll tell you what.
He probably comes in before daylight and leaves after daylight? Ye,
that guy, I'll tell you maybe. Really, they were playing
so good in that game in the fourth quarter, and
in Oregon it comes by it, it comes down with
the game and overtime unbelievable. Yeah, and just you're right though,
I mean, he just can't win the big game. And uh,
(04:14):
I think was in the top ten. He's like four
and twenty one or something like that. So that's not
my good. No.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
No, they're on the road, by the way at UCLA,
who have yet to win a game. That's the three
point thirty kickoff on Saturday afternoon. Penn States traveling so well,
it should not be a huge issue for them. But
got that November first date circled on the calendar bill
where the Nitney Lions come to.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Columbus, and that'll be that'll be an interesting one.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
So all right, seven forty three, it is time of course,
bucks line tomorrow night. One of the fan favorites is
no Thine enemy gets you a little preview, now know
thine enemy. You've got the Minnesota Golden Gophers coming to
the shoe.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Well, what do we know about the Gophers? Bill?
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Why will you be a couple of things, Mike? Have
you heard some of the city names in Minnesota, some
of the towns and cities. They got a place named Nimrod, Nimrod, Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Man.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
They got another one named Sleepy Eye, sleepy.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
I can live there.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Yeah, my favorite is keyster. I mean, my name it town.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Kester, Keistern, Minnesota. I wonder what goes on in Keistern, Minnesota.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
They're sitting on their butts all day.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
I wonder if they've got to be players. I wonder
they're doing some heavy recruit he got
