Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, ten minutes after eight o'clock over to the
(00:02):
Legacy Retirement Group dot com phone line. We welcome in
Fox News contributor. You see he on Fox is here
on Fox Business. You hear her here every Wednesday at
ten after eight. It's Lizpeak, of course, Lizpeak dot com.
Good morning, Liz, A big story government shutdown. I had
Congressman Mike Kerry, Ohio congressman last hour, and we pointed out,
(00:22):
Liz that the funny thing about this is these are
all the same Biden era levels of spending. The Democrats
had no problem voting for more than a dozen times
while Biden was in office, and yet something strange happened.
We have Donald Trump in office and they changed their
tune magically.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Well, I think it actually highlights the biggest problems that
Democrats have right now. One Chuck Schumer is all over
the airways saying there's only one party that wants to
shut down. Oh, yes, that's a party that did not
vote in favor of continuing spending, and that would be
the Democratic Party. But why is Chuck Schumer, who last
(01:05):
we heard was opposed to shutdowns and willing to vote
earlier this year for a similar continuing spending resolution. Why
has he changed his tune, Well, it's because he's scared
the death of being primaried by Alexandri Casio Cortes, the
progressive hot buttons congress person in New York. And guess what,
(01:28):
He's right to be scared, because New York is going
hard left. Schumer is under fire for having worked with
Republicans to keep the government open before, and so he
can't afford to do it again. It's a really tragic situation,
but it is a serious threat to the Democrats, and
now it is a serious threat to the country. And
(01:49):
I would say the other thing is that Democrats have
realized the only issue, literally the only issue on which
they have any traction whatsoever, is healthcare. So there rather
cleverly positioning themselves in this battle as the defender of Obamacare.
They don't want Obamacare subsidies to go away. Any right
(02:10):
minded Americans should be thinking, well, wait a minute. Obamacare
was supposed to make health care insurance affordable for the country.
Why is it we need subsidies, And if there are
subsidies that were put in during COVID, shouldn't those extra
benefits like all other COVID related extra benefits basically be
(02:31):
allowed to expire, and of course the answers yes, except
Obamacare is a failure. Democrats will never admit this, But
the idea that all the country was going to sign on,
and in particular young people who don't have great health
care needs, We're going to sign onto Obamacare and therefore
bring the average price of healthcare insurance down for most people.
(02:55):
It never worked. It isn't working, and it never worked.
So tax are on the hook to fund extra subsidies
for Obamacare because it's just too darned expensive for most people.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Yeas the problem, and COVID's over, by the way, the
newsflash for it's time to move on. So yes, let
those extra those enhanced benefits expire, and let's move on. Also,
the Democrats want to restore eligibility for illegals to receive
taxpayer funded Medicaid benefits, so this is they also want.
(03:28):
They also want free healthcare for illegal immigrants too in
this CR. And Republicans there's nothing new on their side.
There was no new proposals and it was a clean CR.
They just wanted to continue to fund the government until
November twenty first, and so again, this is a little
bit of a temper tantrum on the Democrats part.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Well it is, and again it's totally a reflections of
where the Democrat Party is right now. It's a record
low approval ratings York Times Senapol is out showing that
guess what, President Trump is actually increasing in favorability slightly
over the last several months. And the reason is, I
(04:12):
think reading this poll that he's getting stuff done. I mean,
I think most Americans feel like, yeah, we have some
problems in this country, and boy Joe Biden didn't do
anything to resolve all these problems. He was off building
windmills and other things that most people really don't care about.
What they care about is the economy. They care about
(04:32):
bringing back jobs, They care about peace in the world,
and heaven knows President Trump is trying desperately to resolve
wars around the world. I mean, I think Democrats are just,
as you say, having a hissy fit because they have
nothing really to hang their hat on right now. All
their base wants them to be resisting Donald Trump. Well
(04:53):
what does that mean. Does it mean allowing crime in
big cities? Evidently yes, because that's what Chicago has this
to do. No, we don't want troops here. We'd rather
live with high crime rates. Does it mean reopening the border.
Let me tell you that's not going to happen, because
in this poll, a solid authority of the country is
very much in favor of deporting people in the country illegally.
(05:17):
He here. Actually, I think in a bigger picture, Donald
Trump has occupied the middle. And I know a lot
of my Democrat friends would say, no, no, he's extreme.
He really isn't. Safe seats, streets are not extreme. They're
the middle of the country. And on so many issues,
he is occupying the middle, pushing Democrats into this far
(05:39):
left corner, which again it's not good for the country
because we're going to get for example, in New York,
this progressive socialist mayor, who literally is a socialist. He's young, inexperience,
has no idea what his policies actually how will work.
Nobody has any idea. I'm pretty sure they won't work.
But people are so ignorant of history and economics they're
(06:03):
actually going to elect this guy. And it's a tragedy
and it would not be happening except that Democrats have
just lost their footing entirely.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
When you have a moment today, take a second and
treat yourself lizpeak dot com. I think you'll enjoy it. There.
One of the other stories we're talking about this morning,
Liz is hundreds of military leaders met in Quantico, Virginia yesterday.
Listen to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and his Warrior Ethos
speech emphasizing a kind of a new face of the
(06:32):
US military, focusing on strength, discipline, aggression, and peace through strength,
eliminating DEI, eliminating the woke culture, and bringing back some
older military standards. What are your thoughts on that?
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Well, I'm not sure that talking about fat generals is
a very winning message, but I gotta say, I think
what Pete Hegseth wants to do yes is.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Get our fighting forces in fighting shape. And I think
I think most of the country will applaud that the
idea that they were more concerned about whether their tanks
were fueled by electricity or diesel fuel. You know, come on, folks,
let's if you're going to win a war, you're not
going to be worried about climate change and gender identity
(07:18):
and all these things. And you know people will say, well,
you can be both. No, actually you can't. I think
you have to have a focus. I think what Pete
is trying to do is refocus the military on its
core mission. And they've renamed a department, which I think
is kind of funny, Department of War instead of Department
of Defense, which is what historically it was called. And
(07:39):
I think that kind of symbolizes all the stuff that
they're trying to do. I applaud him. I hope it
means recruitment goes up. That's really a big thing, and
it has so far. I hope that continues. And you know,
I love our military. I think they're terrific. I am
sure there is a certain complacency that settled in over
(08:01):
the years amongst the ranks, and you know, maybe it's
time to shake it up a little bit and get
rid of the people who don't go along with this.
I think that would be just fine.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
The only thing general gender neutral about our military should
be the physical standards. And he brought that up as
far as women in combat, and you know, we heard
from a lot of females in the military that applaud this.
They said, yeah, you know what, I actually was disappointed
to learn that my standards were lower than my male counterparts.
And there is not banning or barring women from joining
(08:33):
the military. You just have to be able to hold
your own well.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
And when they allowed women to go into combat, there
was a lot of discussion in congressional hearings about it.
And guess what, when you're in combat, you're hauling around
an incredible load of equipment and backpacks and all the
rest of the stuff, and it was made pretty obvious
that it was going to be very difficult for women
(08:58):
to keep up. Look, we have to acknowledge in this country,
there's a difference between women and men. That's why there
are sports that are when they're divided up, but they're
divided between women and men. Women are not as strong
as men, and so there are situations and issues about
there's certain situations in the military where women are not
(09:20):
able to compete. I think it's perfectly fine to acknowledge that.
Lots of places where they can, by the way, and
they probably bring a lot of talents and skills maybe
that men don't have in equal measures. So look, I
think all this is fine. We'll see what the impact is.
As I say, if there are generals or commanders in
(09:42):
the Navy who are not willing to go along with it,
So be it
