Speaker 1 (00:00):
So one of the, if not the major sticking point
that caused the federal government to shut down eight days
ago is the Democrats demand that healthcare benefits and subsidies
for illegal aliens be restored, even though they deny that
that is their objective. But wanted to get some clarity
on this from Hannah Davis from Fair Federation for American
(00:20):
Immigration Reform. Hannah, good morning, I appreciate your time this morning.
So can illegal aliens or can illegal aliens not get
health care in this country?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah? Thanks for having me. You know, the Democrats continue
to claim that illegal aliens can't legally receive government funded healthcare,
but it's just not true. The Affordable Care Act, the
ACA eligibility standards basically state that if you're lawfully present,
you can receive them. And so that's where it kind
of gets in the weeds. You know, you can be
lawfully present but still be an illegal alien. And lawfully
(00:53):
present legal aliens are people like asylum seekers, refugees, people
with data status, parolis, temporary protected status. So it's basically
every single type of illegal alien and they can and
it comes at the expense and the cost to American taxpayers,
and so that's really what the left is pushing for.
They're prioritizing benefits for non citizens over the livelihoods of
(01:14):
hard working Americans. But to answer that question, yes.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
They can receive healthcare in this country. So it's the
term lawfully present is the ambiguous term. And now did
this change under Obamacare during COVID and that that's what
Republicans want to roll back.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
It was actually the Biden administration. They relaxed criteria for
several immigration categories, the ones that I just listed off,
and so in practice that's just opened the door for
illegal aliens to access benefits that were never intended for them.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Okay, so how many illegal aliens were allowed to enter
you in the United States in the last four years.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, that's about eighteen million illegal aliens. And at the
end of the day, adding them to adding these millions
of illegal migrants, which is push America pass its breaking point.
It's not affordable and it's not a one time expense.
It's more or less so perpetual obligation. You know, we
in the US we already spend five trillion a year
on healthcare. I mean, can you imagine the number of
adding eighteen million and we see what it does to
(02:14):
certain states that have a lot of illegal aliens, like California.
They're in a deficit just over medical expenses alone.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Talk about I mean, they do get some emergency medical
there are provisions for them to receive emergency medical care
in this country. Do you know anything about that?
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Yeah, there are. You know, hospitals cannot just turn away
fromone because you know she's pregnant and about to pop,
but she's an illegal alien. So that's not how that works.
It's not how we operate here in America. But and
but it's still very costly. I believe we've spent over
sixteen point two billion and medicate emergency services for illegal aliens.
And so that was just that was that was during
(02:50):
the Biden administration. So if we keep doing that, it's
just going to keep snowballing and become something we can't
afford as a nation. We're already there, rare at our
tipping point. That's why the government shut down. And you know,
here we are in our eighth day, I believe, and
we still need eight more Democrats Senate Caucus members to
side with the GOP. I don't think that that's going
to happen. Anytime soon.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Well, that's my next question. Speaking with Hannah Davis from
Fair who's going to blink here? I mean Democrats have
been the ones who have been resistant here, I mean
Republicans they passed the clean cry, they are ready to
continue funding the government at current levels through the next
month or so. Democrats are the ones are going to
have to change on this.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Yeah, you know, I believe Fetterman has already decided that
he would side with the GOP enough to be expected.
But as for the others that we need, I don't
see any names just off the top of my head
of anybody who's willing to compromise. You know, they're still
demanding that these subsidies continue past the end of the year,
even if it comes to the expense of American taxpayers.
I mean, at the end of the day, their willingness,
(03:50):
the less willingness to sacrifice fiscal sanity, security to advance
this open border's agenda. It's costing Americans, it's bleeding people dry,
and something's to change, something's got to give.
