Speaker 1 (00:00):
At seven thirty nine. It is uh Tanya j Powers
the Legacy Retirement Group dot com phone line from Fox News.
And now that the government shut down is over, Tanya,
the airports are up and running, everyone's back to work,
and things are operating as normal. However, there has been
a record surge in unruly passengers disrupting flights for millions
(00:21):
of travelers, and the Treasury secord or the Transportation Secor
to Secretary Duffy, wants to change that.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
He does. He is on a mission to civilize, apparently,
and he says that he wants to remind people, Hey,
you know, let's let's let's dial it back and note
basically while we're traveling. He and he gets, here's the
figures he's drawing from on this, and the reason that
(00:49):
he wants to do this, he says, and this comes
from the FAA. Their numbers. Since twenty nineteen, the FAA
has recorded a more than four hundred percent increase in
light disservices that can be anything from its disruptive favor
to violence. Nearly one in five flight attendants reported experiencing
a physical incident in twenty twenty one. The reports of
(01:12):
unruly passengers last year remained above twenty nineteen levels. The
enforcement actions and signs for unruly passengers have gone up
sharply in recent years, according to the numbers from the FAA.
SO Secretary Duffy says he wants to, you know, inspire
a return to decorum and politeness. He says, you know,
(01:33):
he's asked people for feedback about, you know, what happens
at the gate and what happens you know, are people
nice to gate agents, what happens with the brawls that
baggage claims? Things like that. He wants every passenger to
ask themselves as they're flying the holiday season, are you
helping a pregnant woman or elderly person get their bags
in the overhead? Then? Are you dressing with respect? Are
(01:55):
you keeping control of your children and helping them get
through security? Are you saying thank you to the flight attendance?
You know, please and thank you? In general? Things like
this is what he's talking about.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
It's it's pretty remarkable that we have to have the
Transportation Secretary remind us to be nice when we're on
an airplane or going through an airport. What what do
they attribute the spike in unruly passengers to.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
You know that that's good. That's a good question. I
don't know that he necessarily drew an inference as to
because it could, you know, be anything. Honestly, I mean,
think about it. These days, when you've seen viral video,
there's a lot of times it's just over a misunderstanding
or you know, somebody that's just clearly had their fill
of whatever they could take for the day. Not excusing it,
(02:41):
I'm just saying, you know, it is. I mean, air
travel is stressful for most of us. I think you know,
the majority of us are probably like you know, by
the time we get where we're doing, we're going, we're
just done with the whole thing. You know, you've been
packed into a plane closer than you've ever been before,
with you know, airlines maximizing every inch of space on
there to get as many people on a plane as possible.
(03:03):
These days, I mean, it is and that's just one
of the aspects of their trouble that can be very stressful.
So you know, he's basically kind of saying, okay, everybody,
just kind of take a breath and ask yourself, okay,
you know, am I am? I am? I remembering to
do the things that are just like regular civil decorum
