Speaker 1 (00:00):
Over to the Legacy Retirement Group dot com phone line
is where we find Ryan Schmells from Fox News on
Capitol Hill. Schmelzy, good morning, What the heck happened yesterday?
House Democrats marching to Speaker Johnson's office.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Yeah, this was actually I believe two nights ago. Okay, where,
but yesterday was when we really saw the fallout of it. So, yeah,
late late when Democrats had their caucus meeting. They're in
town as pretty much a way to signal to the
House that they're willing to work and they want to
get to work and want to negotiate on government funding. Well,
they've also been frustrated about Adelite to Grijalva, the congresswoman
(00:36):
elect from Arizona, not being sworn in yet. She was
elected back in September, late September. So they stormed the
Speaker Johnson's office and held a protest outside there had
you know, talked to the press a little bit. Well,
while this was happening, you saw a Congressman, Nanette bar
again from California, get into a shouting match or yelling
at a police officer. She alleges that the officer grabbed
(00:59):
her and wasn't aware that these were members of Congress
who were coming towards the Speaker's office. So yesterday, during
a press event with all the House Democrats there, Aisha
host me our reporter. You could see the video on
my Twitter account. She yells this question because the game,
Jeffers is not taking questions at this time. He took
(01:19):
questions later, and you had some Democrats start to do
You had one yell you lie, you had another yell,
it's the people's office. So you know, Jefferies has said
he has not talked to Bergan about it, he's not
talked to Capitol police by her plans to, but he
wouldn't really comment further.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
After that, and the Speaker saying, we'll swear this person in,
but not until the shutdown is over.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Correct essentially, yes, he says, right once the government has reopened,
we will swear her in. Now. You know, Democrats have
been saying, well, you're having these pro forma sessions, which
is pretty much a session where they come in, they
just file some paperwork and that's pretty much it because
they have to do it legally every couple of days. Well,
why don't you just do it during a pro forma
(02:05):
session and Johnson has still deny to do that. He
says that it should be something that's done in front
of the full House.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Interesting, Ryan Schmells, Fox News on Capitol Hill. So the
larger story, of course, Day sixteen of the shutdown had
the ninth vote yesterday, no resolution. They're expecting another vote
today in the Senate. Any ideas of what could go down.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
It's bobbing, gonna fail once again, but we are expecting
I believe the Defense Appropriations Bill to be voted on,
but that's not going to cause that's how I can
end the government shutdown. That's just kind of progress on
the full fiscal year twenty six budget as opposed to
the stop that measure that they want to keep the
government open until November.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Okay, all right, so you're in Capitol Hill, Ryan Schmells,
Fox News. Have you seen any noticeable reduction in foot
traffic or traffic or just get the presence of people
I have.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Yeah, it's the traffic's gotten a little bit lighter. There's
a lot more parking spaces in certain area. Yes, so no,
there's definitely there's definitely a reduction. And look, I mean
the tourists aren't coming in. You know you have some uh,
you know, we've had a couple of honor flights come
through and some some tour groups, but they can only
be accompanied by the actual member of Congress that their
(03:15):
staff cannot leave a tour right now
