Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
Second, on the Legacy Retirement Group dot com phone line
with Ohio Congressman Ohio's fifteenth district, It's Mike Kerry. Michael,
are you Are.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
You back in d C? I am back in d C.
Good morning, Good morning, sir.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Did you Were you able to catch the Buckeye game
before you left?

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Oh? I was? There'd you go? You? You could not
pick a better venue, a better day, and just a
well coached and well played team. I mean it was.
It was a great day to be a Buck Eye fan.
There's no doubt about it.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, it was a fun Saturday for sure, and just everything.
I mean, you know the old saying you got one
hundred thousand people inside the horseshoe and then another one
hundred thousand outside the horseshoe. And I got to believe
there was more than one hundred thousand outside the horseshoe.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Oh, I think there was. I mean Megan and I went.
We didn't take the two little ones, but but I'll
say we took my father in law to the game
this past weekend and really just a great memory, great experience.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Good for you. Well, I'm glad you were able to
do that before you got back to the swamp and
uh and you you were home in the district, you know,
kind of touring some of of your fifteenth district here
in Ohio last month. What'd you find?

Speaker 1 (01:09):
You know a lot of things. I mean, I you know,
they always talk about this being the August recess. It
is anything but a recess. I mean, we we probably
every day. We you know, on any given day, you
generally have about ten different invites, and so you try
to work those. You know, when you look at the
district that goes from Columbus all the way almost to
the Indiana border. I mean, we have done we we

(01:32):
did so many different events. Uh. One of one of
the one of the cool things was we actually went
to a facility for the Ohio line workers. It's a
it's a it's their training center in Mount Gilead's not
in the district, but it covers the people that are
doing those you know, the work on the polls and
uh and I got to actually climb up one of

(01:52):
those things. So that was that was probably one of
the most neatest thing. And of course we did we
did several uh arp and we did a town hall
with him on our credit for caring Act, a lot
of different meetings, talked about opportunities zones. We obviously, I
think you knew this. We had the HUT Secretary in
Scott Turner, who came into Columbus on Friday and actually

(02:14):
was at the game on Saturday and got to see
a buck guy win. So was Senator Thune. So a
lot of things going on in August. And you know,
I'll be here for a couple of days and then
we'll get right back to it.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
I was going to get to the hosting of Scott Turner,
the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, on Friday. I
liked what he had to say. He basically he came
in and toured a couple of communities, home and transitional communities,
and he's saying, you know, we do have a housing
shortage in this country, and you know, look no further

(02:46):
than right here in central Ohio, but you don't need
money from the federal government to get some relief there.
I kind of liked that message.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
No, I think his message was great, you know, and
I think that also one of the things that the
President did and we in the House and the Senate did.
We made you know, thely like tech funding, permanent which
is something that is was very important. But his message
was spot on, and we just got to do the
things that we can do. And I think you tax
policies like we like we did just you know, a

(03:17):
month ago. I think those are the things that the
Secretary was out talking about, but particularly when it comes
to opportunity zone. So no doubt about that absolutely.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Speaking with Ohio Congressman fifteenth district Mike Kerry, I got
to ask him, Mike, you know you're back in DC.
The House Oversight Committee released Committee released some more Epstein documents,
thirty three thousand. A lot of these were already public,
but I think people are interested to know what is

(03:46):
included in these and why it's taking so long. They're
coming out and drips and drabs, and every time there's
this document dump, and in this case there's some video
footage and I don't really know what it shows. If
I think people are getting fatigued, it's like, just just
release whatever we have, let the chips fall where they may.

(04:07):
I don't know what's going on with this, but I
think people are getting tired of it.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Yeah, I think you're right. I think a lot of
people have, you know, have and I know that there
was a there was a petition that was the discharged
petition that was released yesterday, So we'll see what happens.
I mean, we've only had we literally had two votes
last night. It was the first time that many members
that have actually been able to talk to one another,

(04:31):
which actually isn't a bad thing, I'll be honest. It
was the first time I think a lot of us
had the opportunity to talk to one another. So we
have conference today, I'm sure this will be discussed, and
then we have votes today, and then we'll go back
on Thursday. So I'm sure that we'll be discussing this
discharge petition at some point.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Yeah. And then again, I'm of the opinion that just
no matter if it's your favorite celebrity or your favorite politician,
if there were crimes committed against miners, you know, involved
in at Epstein with at the center of this, then
the American public needs to know about it.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Absolutely. I mean, I don't think there's any doubt. I
think and I think everybody feels that way. So, you know,
I think us getting back here and getting around each
other and talking about what we've got going on. I'm
not sure if the discharge petition is going to be
the route. But yeah, I think everybody feels that way.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
One of the other top stories Michael is sending National
Guard into cities with crime. I mean, they have been
in DC for a couple of weeks now, and it's
like fifteen hundred arrests or something ridiculous. I mean, it's
just the crime rate has plummeted by double digit percentage
points in Washington, d C. The President's talking about going

(05:44):
into Chicago and Baltimore. Has not indicated when or what
that looks like yet, but they're probably I mean his
words were, we're going In your thoughts on sending federal
troops to American.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Cities, well, first off, I think when you look at
these and I you know, I've talked to a lot
of people about this. The one thing that we have
to understand this is not just the capital of Ohio
or West Virginia or Michigan. This is the nation's capital
and we have thousands, thousands of visitors that come through
every single day, and a lot of people don't know

(06:16):
the city. You know, I had the opportunity to work
here in the nineteen nineties when crime was worse, but
we've seen over the last ten years, really last seven years,
we've seen an upticking crime. I pointed out a dear
friend of mine, Congressman Ron Estes, who's out of Kansas.

(06:36):
He sits on the Ways and Means Committee. He lost
one of his interns because of gunfire here in the city.
I had three of my staffers that were you know,
that were attacked at knifepoint just walking to lunch on
Cabital Hill. So I mean, these aren't anecdotal issues. I
mean these are things that really happened, and so I listen.

(06:58):
I think the governor was right in Ohio I to
to send in the National Guard. I think the President
has been right to do what he's been doing in DC,
and we obviously have seen crime down. Why is it
somebody like me who's a member of Congress can be
protected on Capitol Hill, but when you're coming in from
I don't care whether it's Sydney, Ohio or Hilliard, Ohio.
And you shouldn't and you don't have those same protections.

(07:21):
To me, what the President has done with the National
Guard in DC has protected our American citizens. So I
appreciate what he's done, and I appreciate the governor supporting him.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Yeah, and the fact that there's people that are resisting
it is just mind boggling to me.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Make makes sense, that's makes no sense, makes sense. I
mean when you have had carjackings. We've had a member
of Congress. Think about this, We've actually had a member
of Congress that was just driving on Navy Art which
is probably two maybe a mile from the Capitol, got hijacked,
you know, or carjackt I mean, so when you have
and this isn't anecdotally, I mean it's either twenty five

(07:56):
or twenty five or twenty four. You know, the DC
DC does not prosecute anybody that's that is under the
age of twenty four to twenty five. Yeah, so these
people come in and out all the time. So and
they're not just from DC. These are people from Maryland.
There are people from all over. But listen, I think
what the President has done getting the National Guard here
in d C has sent a very good message. And

(08:18):
that's why you've seen the numbers go down.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Congress, And what else do you have on your agenda
in the next week or so. I know that we're
trying to the story is just starting to pop a
little bit, trying to fund the government by the end
of that life.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Well, we've got to and you know, I've always been
a big supporter of that because I truly believe that
anybody that is serving our nation should not have to
worry about paycheck, I mean, bottom line. So we've got
to do our job get the funding done. I think
there's the possibility that we could see another reconciliation package
before the end of the year, and I know those
are some of the things we're going to be talking

(08:50):
about here over the next twenty four to forty eight hours.
There could be mini buses, but we got to keep
the government open and you know, look to to get
some things done in terms of the reconciliation package, which
I think would be I think a lot of Americans
would like that.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Well, keep us up to speak, Well, check in in
a couple of weeks. You're very generous with your time,
Congressman Mike Carrey. As always, we appreciate you, sir,
