(00:01):
Good afternoon. Welcome to on Target. We're broadcasting live from the studios of
LPD Firearms Range and Training Facility that'slocated at nine nine nine Bethel Road.
If you've never been here, yougotta stop by. See us on Saturday,
see us during the week. We'reopen every day but Monday. Right
here live in the showroom of thestore. Why aren't you open on Monday?
Lazy? Yeah, whatever, Ineed one day of rest there.

(00:24):
Actually i'm here. I'm usually hereon Monday. It's the one day to
get stuff done without without having toworry about the day to day operations.
If you ran a survey right nowand found out sixty percent of all goods
for all Mondays, you would beopen on one now and I would probably
be off on Tuesday then. Soguys, good afternoon. I am one
of the owners here and to myleft one of the other owners, otherwise

(00:47):
known as the P and L EPDsitting to my left. I got conned
into this, Yes, today Iwas. You know, it's always the
donuts get no, No, youcome in, you're all flustered, becauld
you need a body here and that'sall you have to go Bobby. Yeah,
but you're sporting in your twenty nineers shirt and I mean look at
that. Oh yeah, guys.We are the owners of LUPD Firearms Range
and Training Facility and are active inlaw enforcement. But one hour on Saturdays

(01:11):
we put together a group of firearmexperts to discuss new products in the market,
training tips, and oftentimes political topicssurrounding the Second Amendment. We've always
committed, though, to bring youfacts about our industry and oftenly help customers
and listeners with safe, responsible ownershipof firearms. Guys, Today on the
show, we actually we have areally informative show lined up. Not like
past weeks. This week is reallyinformative. You got your MIC's on.

(01:36):
I'm gonna I don't want to talkto you over there. We're gonna have
a few short stories, no JCthis week. He's gonna get into some
more heavy hitting news. Next weekwe have a Gun of the Week and
I'm gonna the Gun of the week, papall. I hate to say it's
a duplicate. We usually don't liketo duplicate guns of the week. Oh
but this is my tease. Thelast time we had this as the gun

(01:57):
of the week, it was intwo two and seventeen and my mother came
on air to do the Gun ofthe Week. Do you remember that?
Yeah, yeah, I'll appropriate yes, And since then I've taken it from
her and now it's right here andwe're going to get to that in a
little bit. And you know what, and actually just a little bit more

(02:20):
on the Gun of the Week. What spurred me bringing this back is we
had a Smith and Weston reppin herethis week and we weren't going through stuff,
and I said, hey, youknow, you guys have a lot
of neat products coming out. Ihave an idea for you, kind of
going backwards a little bit on aproduct that I think you would really sell
a lot of if you hadn't heard. Smith and Weston came out this week.
They had previously come out with afive seven pistol, where they now

(02:43):
on very basically that same platform.Have that offering in a twenty two magnum.
It's kind of neat. I thinkit holds twenty rounds, twenty thirty
rounds maybe a twenty two magnum,so kind of neat. So, but
they have also had some things latelythat haven't been all that neat, like
their shotgun, and so I said, hey, you should really consider it
or this. So this gun ofthe week is one if they're if Smith
and Wesson is listening, is theone that they should bring back because I

(03:05):
know we could certainly sell it hereat the store. At twelve thirty,
we are going to welcome a goodfriend of mine, Franklin County Chief Jim
Gilbert. He's gonna be calling inletting us know how Operation Unity went this
week, and it's always going tobe it's always great to catch up with
him. We're also going to talka little bit about something that you know,

(03:25):
if you carry a firearm, eitherto CHL license or through promitless carry,
you really we talk about protecting yourselfand knowing how to use your firearm,
but you really need to be thereand be ready civilly and criminally if
something were to happen. And we'regoing to talk about a company today that
we're partnered with that provides that protectionat a very reasonable price, and we'll

(03:49):
get to that a little bit andwhy you might need to consider their product
line. We'd like to thank oursponsors, Black Wing Shooting Center, who
is having a gun she's a gunshow, a car show. A car
show in a couple of weeks Julytwenty ninth. If you're in and around
their area, certainly need to stopin. I think they have a lot
of music too, food and everythingelse. And ed you missed this,

(04:11):
but next year we're gonna try tobroadcast live from that very nice yep,
so you don't want to miss that. One of other sponsors, Jack Jackson,
Egress, Windows, Rivers, asCULORYCNS Engraving, and of course LPD
Training Facility, all who make theshow possible each week. Joining me right
here in the live studios, PapPaul says to my left, there is

(04:33):
yeah, will you get off?You text more than a teenager. This
is from your mom my wife.Oh okay, ye have to respond all
right, like right, I'll respondon commercial break, sitting to my immediate
right. You might have heard themthis week on the Random Boxer Show early

(04:54):
early, early in the morning.I actually I did listen to you a
couple of times, chuck, Really, yeah, it was actually pretty good
on purpose. Well, I wasdriving, yeah here did you see us?
Uh? Did you see it?How many times we were on the
news this week? No, Ididn't always too busy getting up at three
am. Uh huh. We weactually were on the news this week a
few times. If you hadn't heardthese um lovely fine gentlemen or thugs that

(05:17):
we'd like to call them that endedup in the police shoot out on seventy
last week. Yes, they hadbeen in our store before. Do you
hear this? I heard, Yeah, they had been in our store actually
back in May. We uh,you know, ran their names and saw
that they had been here, andkind of an interesting backstory. They never

(05:39):
made it on the range. Theycame in, two of them, two
of the three came in to shootand had a little bit of an interaction
with our range officers. You know, those guys up there do a phenomenal
job in determining if people are comfortablewith firearms and whether we feel comfortable putting
them on the range with other otheremployees and other customers, and actually were

(06:00):
about themselves as well, and theseguys just didn't exhibit the behavior that we
would want on our range. Soyou profiled him, is what you did?
Well? Throw a series of questionfiled him. Let's use that word
favorably for what you have paid attentionto. The crap in front of you
and said I don't think so getout exactly profile and aid a dirty word.
It means paying attention to what yousay. Uh, but you know

(06:23):
what in it is? I mean? I mean. And the stories this
week, they did a great jobon six and ten reporting it and stuff.
But the guy in the course ofsaying, hey, do you have
an immunition because we check to makesure they don't have any steelcase or steel
court ammunition that would damage the range, and then that, you know,
and that point, they pulled thefirearm out from the hoodie intovertently pointing at

(06:44):
at our guys, not in athreatening manner, but more because they didn't
know what the heck they were doing. Our guys had to take overt action,
pushed the gun out of the wayand basically said you're done for the
day. Yes, And so thatwas our interaction with them. Unfortunately not
on video because it happened a whileback, but it does still, you
know, start to paint the pictureof the mindset of these guys UM at

(07:04):
the time. And h one thingI want to point out, though the
story on ten was was awesome, great story, UM, there was a
there was some concern people said,oh you you run these people when they
come to the range. No,we have no ability to run them.
We don't have leads. I mean, what would happened if we if we
ran these people through leads at thestore, you'd be in jail. Yeah,

(07:28):
and uh and whoever would be injail, and whatever leads terminal we
use to run it, it wouldprobably right. So that means the agency
I work for or whoever goes throughwould probably get that leads certificate pulled.
So it's a very very serious thing. So there is the people listening right
now. I have no idea whatyou're talking about. Surely that you're saying
leads, your cop explain this. This is like not in the right.

(07:54):
But that's something that you, asan officer might do. You see somebody
in a car, the plate youget the played it's a suspicious cars you
call it, and you want torun them. You've got no legal basis.
You're just curious because of the waythey're conducting themselves. That's illegal.
You've got to have a legal reasonand a legal authority to use that.
Real people don't understand this. Well, I'm just saying Eric's talking to everybody

(08:16):
over the internet and over the radioright now if they know it. But
I thought we always stopped them whenthere was a cute blonde driving. I
mean that is that does fall underthe right. Yeah, yeah, I
can't even return a phone call.I don't care what he's is. Um
so. But but leads isn't anin cruisers. It's the ability for law

(08:37):
enforcement to check who owns a vehicleor what, who comes back to a
particular registration or driver's license and stuff, and that that is really restricted to
law enforcement during the course of lawenforcement actions. So it's nothing that that
a private business would ever have accessto, although I don't think it should
be quite frankly, well, that'sa whole different topic, and there's too

(08:58):
much publicly accessible information. I gotsome guy in front of my house in
a car that's been there for likethree nights in a row. I want
to know what I should be ableto run that license plane As a citizen,
I should be able to know whothis is in front of my house.
You would have been there might besome shooting involved. Why not make
a phone call and find out?So that voice to the right. That
is our guest for today, mistered big Ed. Yes, I am

(09:20):
a guest for the today and Idon't know if I'll be here next Saturday.
But oh my yes, not whenyou park and cruise. You're parking
with your Cadillac. There's there's anFOP tag on the back of that car.
It says police. So it's anundercover car. Not if it has
You've told everybody it is right now. You blew the cover. I blew

(09:41):
the cover. I'm gonna have togo out and get a different one.
Just give me the car because it'suseless to you now. So that's the
voice a big ed ed I willhave to say. I want to say
it publicly here. I had opportunitythis week to work with your son,
Yes for twelve hours. Yes,and an unconditioned cruiser, unconditioned, un
air conditioned who's it wasn't well? The air conditioning went out in the first
fifteen minutes we started working. Wehappen to work Operation Unity together. We

(10:07):
were partners. And I drove.I don't know if he told you this
him drive well, that is truebecause I didn't want to take the risk
that driving was hereditary, and soI made that decision up front. I
just said, look, look,Eddie, I'm going to drive if it's
if it's okay with you. Soit worked out. That's not the way
you told me. But you know, hey, your father's seen how i'd

(10:30):
drive. He knows I'm a gooddriver. A lot of us have seen
how really now, actually you knowwhat it was real? It was a
didn't hit that telephone pole? Didwe? We kissed a few curbs back
on our day? Yeah, andall honestly, it worked out great.
I had an opportunity to work withyour son. Your your son's great,
Thank you very much. We hada blast and it worked out great because
he's savvy on the computer and hehad GPS up. We're in and he's

(10:54):
nothing like that though, nothing likeand we had this guy works we had
We were in areas we weren't alwayshe got his work ethic from his mom.
Okay, we were in areas thatweren't weren't all that familiar with,
so he was right on top ofhaving GPS up. And it was fun.
We had it. We had agood time that day. Was it
a hot day? It was hot? Yeah, we had the windows down.

(11:20):
Yeah it was I don't know, but it was. We chose to
go on. We were all right. It wasn't. It was not that
you would have pulled me over inthe eleventh hour. I would have signed
the ticket without reading it, justto get you away from my window so
I didn't have to smell you.It wasn't all that bad. Oh we
survived it. So ed Chicago update. I don't know if you see it
there in front of you at thebottom. Oh, this is a good

(11:41):
one. Sixteen hundred and thirteen shotthis year in Chicago. What are what
are we in Columbus? You knowwhat? I don't know. It's crazy.
Three hundred forty three homicides this year. Columbus continues to be almost a
statistical time for the murder rate inChicago. We have five six shot yesterday.

(12:01):
I believe it wasn't when I sawthe news. Yeah, it's crazy.
I think we're at eighty two onthe homicides in Columbus now. And
then it was it Tuesday morning.I woke up, turned on the news
we had and we had three shotthe night before and then two more shot
during that day. So and threekilled out of those those shootings. I
mean, it was it was alousy twenty four hours here. Yeah,

(12:24):
it was every every night when youevery morning when you look at the news,
noticed, have you noticed Andy's kissingup a little bit? Have you
noticed the prosecutor under the he's ourlaw enforcement officers are wonderful and they're taking
guns off the street, and Iand the prosecutor I have to start enforcing

(12:45):
the law. We're not gonna invitelaw enforcement to the table when we do
press conferences, but where we backthem, let's say that loud. Sorry,
if you missed the show, youcan always catch the podcast at six
ten to BTV dot Com, radI, Heart Radio and gool podcasts.
Really, any place you get yourpodcasts. We are out there. Facebook
Live is a great place to watchthe show. You can see the interaction

(13:05):
of the guys. You get tosee the gun of the week in person,
and you get to see Big Headand Little Chuck sitting right here beside
me. What else is going on, guys? One thing before we go
to the break. We mentioned itlast week, but it is in full
force now. We got some wonderfulused guns that came in this week.
Actually we just got in a problem. You haven't seen this one yet.
World War two German luger came inyesterday. Yeah, we're still evaluating it,

(13:26):
but that is here will be outfor sale shortly. We still have
two two sixes and two two ninesin the boxes, three magazines, night
sites, and a duty holster. There were placed trades. There are in
forty caliber, but you can alwaysyou can always get a kit that switched
out if you don't want it inforty. And they're a heck of a
price. I mean they're just overfour hundred dollars for a full metal sig.

(13:46):
Some of them are German made.Still, these are all two two
sixes and two to nights. They'reall in forties. Yeah, yep,
So there we still have plenty left. We're getting down there, but we've
sold quite a few. Um sothose are here as well. What else
out there? Let's jump to abreak and then we get back by the
gun of the week. How's thatchuck? Works for me? Oks?

(14:07):
For you? All right? Weare on Target broadcasting live from the studios
of LPD FIREMS Arrange. We'll beback right after the break. Who's this,
Chuck, It's it's loud Bobby fouror four. I don't know if

(14:31):
it was a low one. Idon't know if it was appropriate ed.
But when Eddie and I were drivingaround. We had this on the outside
speakers. Is that not cool?I'm sick of outside speakers too. Let's
get rid of those. Make thoseillegal. Bobby four or four I think
was the one to think that initially. Initially, this is the clash.
Look it up there, you hey, speaking of weather. The weather man

(14:56):
all the storms yesterday, yesterday inthe day before, it was stupid one.
I'm not gonna call him out.I'm gonna it wasn't Buck, I'll
tell you that much. But wasn'tone of the Well you got a badge,
you trust who you want, UM. But one of the television meteorologists
on it yesterday morning before UM cameout and said this, I'm not joking.

(15:22):
This is early four o'clock news orwhatever, and showers and thunderstorms.
We have a good chance of hailand high winds. They got a reporter
on the street who's going put yourgarbage cans away. They'll be projectiles and
put a blanket on your car windowand projected from the hail and and we're
gonna see. And the meteorologist said, and if you have any afternoon plans,
just cancel it. It's not gonnahappen, nothing but blue skies and

(15:43):
sunshine the whole day. Yep.I stopped listening to them. I mean
day we were supposed to get thattoo. How do I take them seriously
when they start telling them about climatechange? And one hundred million years ago
the earth was doing this. Youcan't tell me what it's gonna do today.
How do you know what happened onehundred million years Wait a minute.
The National Weather Service was not thereto predict the weather, but to keep
statistics. Uh huh yeah. AndPapaganna do you remember him? I remember

(16:08):
bad he gui on the button allthe time, and he was out of
New York. Yeah, because theyweren't. It wasn't sessationalized back then.
I just I can't believe how wrongthat. With the radars and computer models
and simulations and all that stuff, how can you be that drastically wrong?
So we kick the tornado sirens offthese days when they talk about a storm

(16:32):
potentially coming through. Craziness Show back, Ontario, I'm yours, Eric joined
today the voice of my father Phil. That's who that was. I got
a little chuck to my right, big head to his right. Papo the
gun of the week. This isactually mom's gun and I'll tee it up
and I'll kick it to you.It's it's it's a model you probably haven't
heard, as Smith and was infour thirty two p D and as some

(16:53):
of the people out there in thecrowd are like, huh, what is
that? Looks like the normal JAframe that I have a bunch of And
you have to Papa anything about thisis when you talk about carrying a firearm
to protect yourself and if you arelooking at people who are maybe have some
sensitivity to recoil and um to um, you know, to being able to

(17:15):
still carry it and carrying successfully buther um, what are you guys?
Are you guys are gonna do theshow or just gonna pass the fat looking
at more pictures of Paul Paul's cars. But the sensitivity to the recoil at
thirty eight special sometimes can be tough. Smith and Weston came out with this
model years ago and for some reasondiscontinued it. And I'm telling you,

(17:38):
if Smith and Weston is listening,if they would bring back this model with
a couple of little tweaks and stuff, we could sell a bunch of them.
Papa, what do you have there? This is a snub nose thirty
two caliber Smith and Weston. Thisbelongs to my wife, and um,
she's got her conciled carry, whichis what I would recommend for ladies who

(18:00):
who have a concealed carry and whowants to carry a revolver. This is
a thirty two and thirty two magnumsthirty two And I said that earlier,
Well, I wanted to throw youoff, ed Okay, but this is
a and as six shots and youcan get you can get speedloaders for it

(18:23):
if you want. But this isremarkable, and it's lightweight. And for
years and years and years, eventhough my wife had her concealed carry,
she didn't carry it, and andI had it in in her car a
lot of times she didn't even knowit was there, I know. And
so finally I took it out broughtit in here to the store, and

(18:45):
uh, but I mean, thisis remarkable, and um, I mean
even for people like me, theolder people that have arthritis or whatever,
and thirty two magnums are are prettypotent round I wouldn't want to be in
ton of it. And it lookslike a normal jafam. It looks for
those just looking at it, andif you're watching it on Facebook, it
looks like a thirty eight special. You would never know the difference. Um,

(19:10):
but they stopped making it, andI'm not sure why. But the
trigger is still nice, like alike a typical Smith and Lesson and smooth,
you know, not too bad.And the recoil, though, is
manageable. Then nything about this,Chuck. Not only can you put thirty
two magnums, you can put thirtytwo longs and thirty two shorts in there.
This feels just like the thirty eightin my hand. I mean it's

(19:30):
like the size exactly the same, the same, Yeah, yeah, And
I mean, well that's what I'mjust wondering. Why why can you only
get five rounds in the thirty eightand you get just a hair smaller?
Yeah? I would I would havegone for the extra millimeter on the cylinder
just to get six rounds in thethirty eight. Yeah, old, Eric,
I don't know how old this is, probably the nineties, because you

(19:53):
know, probably back then can stillCarrie wasn't going hot and heavy, probably,
And but now I think if Smithand Westernum produce those and the thing
is I mean now, and unfortunatelyit's a collector's gun. I mean now,
it's worth over a thousand dollars becauseyou don't see them. But as
Smith and Wesson again, if they'relistening, if they came back with this,

(20:15):
but in that three twenty seven magnumthat we talk about sometimes that Ruger
has and their snub nose three twentyseven magnum has similar ballistics as a three
fifty seven magnum, both a lotless recoil. The three twenty seven you
could shoot three twenty seven magnum, thirty two magnum thirty two long, thirty
two short, thirty two ACP allout of that same gun. So it

(20:38):
gave you would give you a varietyof choices depending on your level of comfort.
I don't know why they don't comeback with it, because it's a
it would be a phenomenal gun.And I can't figure out why why that
little post is there on that lanyardon it or something you could it is
nice, Yeah, it's nice.So mom, if you're looking for your

(20:59):
your little thirty too, we haven'twe think about that, Chuck. She
didn't even know she had it.She's not looking for it. Yes,
yea, and Mom, really,Eric has it. That's right. So
for you thinking about that, Chuck, I just I like that. It's
a kid, it's nice. Iliked that. One extra round is a
big deal to me. Yeah,it's a big deal to me. If
you're going to carry revolver having thatsixth round instead of just five. Um,

(21:23):
you never know. You go inas prepared as you can possibly go.
One more round is better prepared.Yea. And it's and it has
the reliability of a revolver. It'sgonna go off every time you pull the
twitter And four years thirty two caliberwas the side arm of law enforcement.
I think Mannix carried one of those, to be honest with you, he
carried a snub nose with six shotsin it. But I can't remember.

(21:44):
That. Could be a Colts too, The Colts a bigger cylinder, the
Colts just a hair bigger on thirtyeights. All right, guys, there
is the gun of the week forthe second time around. So another five
years, Papa. That puts uson schedule to do this again in about
twenty eight to twenty nine. Soreal, there you go, guys.
We're gonna jump to a break andwe come back, We're gonna talk to
frank County Chief Jim Gilbert talk aboutOperation Unity, why it was important and

(22:07):
was it a success. We're onTarget broadcasting live from the studios of LAPD
Farm Range. We'll be back rightafter the break. Welcome back to on
Target. I'm your host. Derekjoined today in the LAPD studios. I
got big at to my right,I got a little Chuck Douglas, and
I got my father and Cohen orPhil stepping back up to the mic also
on the live line with us rightnow. A good friend and uh one

(22:30):
of which you've heard out there manytimes. Frankin County Chief Jim Gilbert,
how are you doing, sir?I'm doing good, guys. Good,
good afternoon, Good afternoon. Chief. You know we had on Brian Steale.
He came and sat with us lastweek from the FOP and actually came
in the studio and you come backone weekendnight come and he got them out

(22:55):
guys a week you know, Ido deserve a day off on Saturday,
that's right. And then I Ikind of endo calling in here, but
Chief, you know, it's alwaysencouraging. I always look forward to hearing
you and Brian out there talking inthe media. You guys give a glimmer
of hope hearing you both on thenews and out there in the field speaking
on behalf of the minimum women inlaw enforcement and thanks, I mean on

(23:18):
behalf of all of them and thecommunity. I mean thanks for all you
do. I mean, you areout there and you've been in law enforcement
a number of years and you arestill speaking the good word every chance you
get. I appreciate that. Well, listen, I really appreciate that.
And you know this effort that wedid on Thursday that you took part in
and at sun took part in themwith many men and women throughout Franklin County.

(23:40):
You know, it's just important. It's important for us to hear the
concerns of the community. I mean, I'm myself and Chief jonesum Clint Township
and a business owner on Cleveland Avenue. You guys are on a stop across
the street. We stopped out ona stop and he keep up shook our
hands. Thanks us, he said, Man, what a breath of fresh
air seed You guys out here. You know the visibility that you guys are
making stops, you're interacting with thecommunity. Just a super nice guy.

(24:03):
We had, We had many contactsnon uh you know, non traffic stop,
non criminal um inviction, tretch stopsand we you know, we have
a lot of contacts with members ofcommunity. Thank you for thanking us,
for seeing us and being out thereand you know, trying to take the
streets back so to speak, becausethey wanted on. The community is is
starving for our attention and to tryto restore and make things much safer for

(24:26):
them. And you know we weobviously are doing a lot more with less
when it comes to staffing. Sothese these collaborations bringing agencies together us very
important all throughout the county. Andyou know, my house off to Franklin
County Chiefs Association became president Christen heas the Whitehall Police Chiefs. These things
started a couple of years ago.And being able to pull a whole all

(24:47):
of our resources together and be committedwhen we can and dedicate specific target enforcement
blitzes like this are very important. It's important to share one all one as
well throughout Franklin CAFF. And youknow it's not and you mentioned it,
it's not just about going out thereand giving tickets and stuff. It's that
interaction with the community. I know, Eddie, and I mean many times
over the course of that twelve hoursjust talking to some of the people in

(25:10):
the community and so appreciative and sothankful that we are out there. I
mean, whether we're in the youknow, the gas station, grabs something
to drink, or in some ofthese neighborhoods, is driving by talking to
the folks on the street. Sowas it considered a success? Oh?
Absolutely, very successful. This wasa county wide initiative. We worked specifically

(25:32):
up in the northeast area with sixa total of six law enforcement agencies coming
together with where we were at andthen the Franklin County Shriff's Office. We've
had some dedicated patrol definitely's working withthe Mouson Township Police Department's targeting the hot
Field Turo Township of Monson Township,un overineer refuge in the big school room.
We've seen a lot of requests frombusiness owners residents out there because of

(25:55):
a continuous crime and one of thethings that's important here and I know you
guys are just talking about violent violence. The last couple of days were the
day of the operation we had.We had absolutely no crimes and progress that
were violent. Now iger At robberies, no shootings, those stabbings. When
we were out in those communities,we were a visual deterrent and we were
impacting and uh, you know,we didn't have any run that we went
on that were related to any anyof those violent crimes. So I believe

(26:21):
there's a correlation there. When thecommunity sees law enforcement out actively engaging in
the public, either in an enforcementrole or seeing us on a traffic stop
for multiple cruisers all patrol in certainareas, um crime crime crime goes silent
for in that area because the criminalssee us out there and the criminal element.
The other key part of the operationwas the unmarked cars, having surveillance

(26:44):
and unmarked cars and as you know, Eric, I mean we stopped to
do humorous transactions stolen vehicles. Um, we had a couple of guns we've
taken off, did legally possessed fundrooms in the possession of felons and the
possession of individuals that were involved incriminal activity and Kane drugs. So you
know, we did have impact.I believe that when we are able to

(27:06):
do these type of operations, itis very impactful. Chief Chief, this
is Phil Eric's dad. How muchdid he have to pay you to put
him on the on the cover ofFacebook. Well, I gotta tell you.
We looked around the room and Italk you know, it's it's uh,
there's anybody that looks as sharp asthey do in the uniform, it

(27:26):
was him. You know, oursocial media people are out pinking pictures and
I saw that as well. Ericwas able to make one of the make
one of the pictures. But Igotta tell you, man, I was
very concerned because Ed Countfill Junior didnwant to drive. And I've known Ed
for Senior for a long time, and I believe the right decision there was

(27:47):
made for Eric. Beautiful, beautifulchief. That's exactly what my thoughts as
well. We're talking to Chief JimGilbert County cheff Cheef. Is there a
challenges anytime you bring so many differentagencies. I mean, we're not used
to working, you know, handin hand with Clinton Township or with some
of these other agencies. Do youis there challenges? I mean one of

(28:07):
the things that I thought it wasimpressive is even though we're part of the
same big community, to be ableto go there and put us all in
an area like that, and thissynergy, I mean it was seamless knowing,
you know, backing up each other. It was really neat. But
I mean talk about that for asecond. Does that pose a challenging you
bring so many different departments together underone umbrella. Well, I'll say we're

(28:32):
all started from obviously under shoved out, that was falling leadership. I run
the OVII Task Force under patrol. You know, it's a county wide task
force. We're all doing checkpoints,we're walking together. And the concept kind
of came from there. After twentytwenty, we saw the need for agencies
to be backing each other up andcoming together when we don't fights the at

(28:52):
and those individuals around there illegally ridingthose things throughout the county. You know.
I came up with the concept andI went to the show and said,
hey, we need to bring ourpartners in just like we do under
the OBI passports and looking at itfrom like introffic passports, and then that
kind of evolved into an operation.EDY started this county wide initiative US the
Choose Association, you know, justmade more sense. Instead of each individual

(29:15):
agency, let's bring several that youknow, being able to staff a task
force mentality like we did for theATVs and Earthlikes under Operation Unity, and
that's why I think it just looksvery well. I mean, I can't
tell you how important it is inthe public. The public needs to notice
the collaboration going on between all theagencies, sharing information, coming together during

(29:37):
these operations. You know, thatjust didn't happen overnight. It's it's it's
the combined efforts of of of theCheese Association and the great working relationship and
networking that we have throughout throughout theyears. And you know airt SCU during
OSU football. I mean, theagencies are assisting with large events throughout the
city, races and things of thatnature. It's just the combination of that

(29:59):
and I think that that's you're goingto see that in future, as far
as agencies um borrowing each other's personneland staff efforts like this and the public
the public deserves it. I mean, we're all understaffed. We were hiring
the Sheriff's office. We are aggressivelytrying to get our numbers back up like
everybody. You know, staffing isan issue everywhere, and we were able
to do these events and kind oflean on each other for personnel and for

(30:21):
vehicles and for staffing. I meanwe had two transporting on those guys.
They didn't get him rinked. Imean they were going everywhere and as soon
as they were done with two orthree were transport another. Another officer was
errand you know for a transport. So we stayed very busity. But collaboration
is very important. Yep. Whatdo you think, Chuck? What do
I think about? Many things isgoing through my head right now. First

(30:44):
of all, whose codes when allthese agencies work together, County County supersedes,
and there's a lot of oh youlittle township officers, you need to
know. Frankly, can we goby that? That's what we work off
of anyway, But anymore and Chiefyou can talk to this too. I
mean, plane talks is acceptable,I think more and more, at least
more so than when I first started. So you know, if you did
get hung up and you're in thatstate of panic and you didn't didn't know

(31:07):
the code for something specifically, youcould certainly say I had this. I'd
rather hear that. Anyway, whenI'm listening to the skate, I hate
hearing numbers turned into verbs to youknow, two men twenty six ing sounds
stupid, so just tell them they'refighting in the parking lot um. Secondly,
is there any kind of commitment fromthe prosecutor before you guys get together
and do this? From the countyprosecutor says Okay, Obviously we're looking for

(31:30):
felonies, we're looking for weapons,we're looking for drugs. We are going
to be diligent in prosecuting these peoplethat you bring in during these these efforts
or is it just luck of thedraw Let's hope they take it seriously when
we get them down there. Yes, yes, on that so obviously because
of the effort that we're trying tofocus in on. And I'll be honest
with you, I mean this isgood for you know, we should gonna

(31:52):
be these old time. I mean, let's just let's just say it.
I mean, we wish we hadthe staffing to be able to be out
doing these top of the enforcement effortsall the time. So when we're able
to pull our resources together and findit a key today to do it,
Yes, we do let them knowin advance. The paperwork has Operation Immunity
on it with an emphasis on.You know, hey, look, you

(32:13):
know our efforts were out there thatday to look to make an impact on
the street. Please please see thesecases through. So of course some of
the officers are like, you know, which every shouldn't every day be in
operation any city Unity dame when itcomes to prosecution. So, um,
you know, it's our responsibility. How does that evolving door is specifically even
with the juveniles, And it's alwaysour responsibility to do our due diligence and

(32:36):
being out there to put ourselves betweenthem and the public and then make that
apprehension and do all that we canto present the proper case moving it forward,
and then what happens at the prosecutorlevel, what happens with the judges.
Unfortunately, you know that's something thatwe just we just gotta we gotta
get past. It's kind of likethat picture that goes out and has a
has a really bad ending. Youknow, Okay, can you go back

(32:57):
out the following inning and kind ofkind of continue on as if like the
last day didn't happen. Unfortunately, that's what we have to do. We
are a bit is frustrating at mylevels an executive, It is frustrating the
other thing that's very frustrating is thelack of disrespect that we see out on
the streets. These guys are livestreaming their crimes. All that stuff is
very important, and you know, everybody needs to come together to try to

(33:21):
try to stim the act that Iheard you guys making some some comments earlier
about some of the political issues andthe support that you know, that's how
I heard of this past couple ofdays. You know, its depends on
swinging back. I mean, we'vegot a situation where police officers are being
shot at, they're being shot andnow I think that we've had a lot
of them. A lot of whatwe were on Thursday was we support you
guys are attempting to do to keepus safe. So it's very much appreciated.

(33:44):
Yeah, it's Chief Jim Gilbert onthe phone with us guys. Chief,
I want to end with this, you know, for those listening,
when you no matter what line ofwork that you're in, when you think
of your boss or the executives, you don't think of people necessarily who are
coming and maybe dealing with customers asmuch anymore, or ones that can come
and work side by side with youduring your daily job. It's not there

(34:07):
an executive they're in that management levelthis week and we were a part of
this. It wasn't it wasn't onetraffic stop that we made that I didn't
look behind and see Chief Gilbert there, or look and see one of his
lieutenants backing us up, or lookand see the chief of police from Clinton
Township there. I mean, theseguys, I mean, you know,

(34:29):
Chief, you don't just have thatexecutive level and sit in some office.
Anywhere you go out there, You'renot hesitant being a part of the stuff
that was going on. You wereright there in the mix of it all.
And I applaud that and thank youso much for being a leader who
is out there with the guys andthat that's exactly what we need. And
I don't think the public knows thatthat that's what goes on. This is

(34:52):
a different, different structure than yousee. These guys are out there side
by side with you, and it'snot uncommon that I'm backing up the chief
or the chief he's backing up me. And that's phenomenal. Yeah, well,
I really appreciate that. I mean, obviously I'm able to do what
I do because I sure Baldwin's leadership. He was out there for a couple
hours with us as well as Beston radio. You know, with the

(35:14):
other day we had the man huntoff the freeway incident. He was out
there, so you know both hehas gone in certain situations and when we
have these operations, I look athim as you know, I've got to
be out there with the minute women. I'm asking to go out there and
do a very difficult job, doinga very difficult time to one of the
hardest jobs in America. So Iappreciate that you guys do a great job.

(35:35):
Thank you for the continue support thatyou guys do every Saturday. You
always mentioning what's going on. Yougot the pulse of what's going on and
the many women that were in theuniform every day. God bless you guys
for what you do to ensure thatyou're being very prodible and very vocal about
the support the dayy. So thankyou. Yeah, my chief, you
have any plans here in the nearfuture to do this unity thing go anytime

(35:59):
soon? I don't know. Idon't know either. My book still still
being written. Um, obviously I'vedone a lot of my career, so
we'll see what happens down the road. But I'm very blessed to be in
a great position right now to stillbe able to go out to do the
job and still activities. I haveto the things that I have to do.
So I don't know, Well,we'll see. I'm truly and passionate

(36:21):
about the law enforcement, but Idon't know what the future holds. But
I continue keep doing what I canwell as I'm healthy and able to do
so. And he provided that opportunity. Great, well, thank you so
much, Chief for jumping all withus. Thanks for putting me on the
front cover there of Facebook. I'llsend you my check. Um, all
right, so hey, thanks somuch, Chief Jim Gilbert with County Cheff.

(36:42):
A good friend, good buddy, and really it really need to see
him out there side by side. You realize all that praise for this though,
all these multiple agencies coming together couldbe redone within Columbus Police Department if
Safety and the Mayor's office would sitdown and just work it out. Let's
take an officer or two from eachof these precincts where there are very few
calls. Let's move them into asweep in eight or ten or nineteen or

(37:07):
wherever we got the hot spots anddo a within the City of Columbus unity
between the precincts and sweep that kindof presence when the bad guys know,
I can't get away because they're allover the place. The bad guys lean
and you know, I didn't realizeuntil the Chief mentioned it that day.
There was no calls over the airfor any violent thing in that area.
And we were in an area thatwork typically not in. There was nothing.

(37:30):
I mean, that's that's remarkable. So the guy, the bad guys
were on the move because they knewyou were there, so yep, and
they need to do it more often. That's why I was asking if they
had any point. Well this wegot a forty person recruit class in Columbus
is supposed to be starting in thenext couple of months, and I heard
that, I think it was theDeputy chief on the news yesterday saying when
they graduate, we will have moreofficers in the City of Columbus than we

(37:52):
have ever had in history. Isay, prove that. I don't believe
that, because they're not going tobe out on the streets alone for the
next six months until six months fromnow, Anyway, two years ago we
were talking about being diminished because somany people took early retirement and so forth.
And now we're going to have moreofficers than ever before. But chut
the other part of that puzzle thatthey refused to say. You might physically

(38:13):
have more officers out there, butwhat's the average time on the street one,
two, three years. I mean, they gutted the agency by getting
rid of the tenured guys, theguys who knew how to do long.
I mean sometimes these guys they're nowpurpose because they right to control the ones
coming out yep, to have themunder their thumb to say you can't do
that, yep. And that's notto say these guys aren't going to be

(38:36):
good officers and they aren't coming outof the academy, but there's you have
to learn this this job exactly. So it's crazy they they might have more
out there, but but the mymy vision is that they the intellectual you
know, ability of them, it'sjust not there yet. I mean,
you're gonna you need to build thatwith experience. So guys, lets up
to a break and we get back. We're going to talk a little bit
about something that you really need toconsider if you carry a firearm to text

(39:00):
yourself and your family. We're alltalking a broadcasting live from the studios of
LAPD Farms Range. We'll be backright up to the break. Yeah,
this is the David Lee Roth versiontwo. I'm telling you this is David
Lee. Yeah. I was justhaving that argument a couple of days ago.

(39:21):
Van Hagar versus Van Halen. Ithink they were two different bands and
I liked them both. Yeah,me too. Welcome back to on talking.
I'm your host, Eric Jointing inthe LAPD studios. We got big
ed back into house, got alittle chuck to my right and Pa Paul,
my father and co owner, saysto my left. Guys, we're
kind of limited on time, butI want to throw this out there and

(39:42):
we're gonna get back to this. The reason we didn't give as much attention
to this as initially planned because theguest hads have been come up last minute
and we weren't able to to getthem rescheduled or get them back on.
So we're gonna reschedule. But whatwe're talking about is if you carry a
firearm for personal protection, it comeswith an enormous amount of responsibility. And
we harp here about knowing your firearm, knowing the safeties of your firearm,

(40:07):
knowing how to carry it and thefunctionality and hitting your target, and no,
that's very important, but there's alsoanother side to it, and that
side is knowing how to conduct yourselfand being aware of what's going to happen
if you use that firearm to protectyourself or your family, And in no
other time more than now, youreally need to consider programs that are out

(40:30):
there that will be there for youin that time and need. So,
if you think about it, ifsomething were to happen and you don't have
a legal defense program and you areinvolved in a shoot, and it doesn't
even have to be a shote,it can be just a self defense it
with a bat or whatever the casemay be, it's probably not the time
to go to your neighbor who doesestates and wills and say can you defend

(40:52):
me, either civilly or criminally. So we've partnered, and we've had this
partnership for a while now with acompany, US Law Shield, and they
do a phenomenal job. They area nationwide company who has a program that
is extremely reasonable. Actually it's almostit's almost so reasonable that there's no reason
not to do it. We're talkinglike ten ninety five a month for the

(41:15):
basic program and a lot of that. Some of that benefit is if you
sign up through LPD, you getthe first month free. You don't pay
a twenty dollars initiation fee. It'sa promo code LPD, and I'll tell
you how to get to that. But what they provide is attorneys whose expertise
is in this defense of individuals whohave tried to protect themselves, both civilly

(41:38):
and criminally. It is unlimited,so it doesn't matter how long it goes
on for. And the neat thingabout it is it is they have all
kinds of other things that go alongwith just ten ninety five a month.
It's not just you know, youpay the ten ninety five and you'll never
hear from them. All kinds ofprograms out there to help educate you.

(41:58):
We do a lease orderly class hereon self defense knowing when lethal force is
justified. They provide that here, and you're thinking, okay, what at
the cost of the class. Ifyou have US law Shield, it's free
free. If you don't have it, it's only ten dollars to attend the
class. I mean, really somethingyou need to get your mind around.

(42:19):
If you're going to carry a fireThey actually point out that you know the
one to shoot, not to shoot, what happens after you shoot, what
you should do, who should youtalk to, who should you not talk
to? It is very informative andI've dealt with US law Shield fast,
so I can speak firsthand about it. And one unique thing about it,
and I think when you were moreclosely involved with them, I'm not sure

(42:42):
if this was the case or not, but they are one of the few
entities who cover law enforcement and privatesecurity on and off duty. That's a
little bit unique. So if you'reout there listening and you're in private security
or you're in law enforcement, youcan never have enough protection. These guys
do it. So for that tenninety five months, not only do you
can you attend these classes and everything. You can customize the program and there's

(43:04):
little charges here and there. Oneof the biggest things though, hey is
this going to cover me? Ihave an OHIO CHL going to cover me
if I go traveling. Well,a lot of the competing programs you pay
for that ability up front, soyou might pay an extra five bucks a
month to have the ability to travel. What they do that is so neat.
You download the app us law shieldapp and if you know you're traveling,

(43:24):
you turn the protection on for thosecouple days or that week they bill
you for that. You turn itback off when you get home, so
you're not paying for something that is, you know, for your travel one
week a year exactly. So allkinds of things like that. That really
really is why we partnered with them. You have a better chance these days

(43:46):
and in our future of having todo something to protect yourself or your family
than you probably ever had before livingin this city. We have not had
a monumental case yet. This isn'tabout the practice qality of covering yourself from
the law. This is the practicalityof covering yourself from putative damages and juries

(44:07):
that go nuts and love to awardpeople things. That case is coming.
You know, it hasn't happened yetbecause the media hasn't been on. It'll
be a circus when it does, right, it will happen. Don't be
stupid going not prepared. So howcan you get this? So? And
again we're gonna talk about this alittle bit more in greater detail when we
can have a rep jump on withus. But if you go and download
the rap super easy, it's aUS Lost Shield, or or if you

(44:30):
if you can't remember that, ifyou go to our website just LPD dot
com and the bottom left corner you'llsee the link to US Lost Shield the
promo code super easy paupul l EPDand would that get you? Get you
the first month free and it alsogets you a waiving of the initial charge
of I think twenty dollars to setit up, so definitely something worthwhile at

(44:52):
least go consider it. Go outthere and check it out. Thanks for
spending the last hour with us.Thanks for Chief Gilbert, then for all
the officers who were part of OperationUnity this week. Next week we have
David Conti is coming on with us. He is from the NRA. He's
gonna talk a little bit about Issueone. He's gonna have a table set
up here and talk while we needto vote yes for Issue one in the

(45:15):
August election. Guys, have asafe week, and as always, remember
let's be careful out there.
