Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, well, well, it is good to be back here
in the cool behind the studio desk. Unfortunately, I'm the
only one who showed up today, so I'm not sure
what you're going to get. I got no JC, I
got no Chuck Douglas, no Paul, Paul, no Ed. No problem,
because it's Ellen and I on Target is next. Good afternoon,

(00:20):
Welcome down Target. We're broadcasting live from the studios of
LAPD Firearms Range and Training Facility that's located at nine
nine nine Triple nine, Bethel Road. I'm your host, Eric along.
Where is everyone? At least I got the studio audience,
and I also Ella, are you there?

Speaker 2 (00:41):
I'm here all right?

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Now?

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Have you been preparing for the show as much as
I have today? Yeah? In the thirty second notice you
gave me, Hi, well, I wanted it to be I
wanted your reactions to be natural. I didn't want it
to be staged or you know, you have time to
think about stuff. I just wanted, you know, I wanted
the true Lso that's what I was going for.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Man on the street, I'm ready, there.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
You go, There you go, guys. We are the owners
of LAPD Firearms Arranged and our active in law enforcement.
But for one how we're on Saturdays, we put together
a group of firearm experts to discuss new products in
the market, training tips, and oftentimes political topics surrounding the
Second Amendment. Our commitment, though, has always been to bring
you facts about our industry and help customers and listeners

(01:22):
with safe, responsible ownership of firearms. I wanted to start
out by thanking Chuck for hosting last week Chuck and
the Boys. I had an opportunity to listen in on it.
A great conversation if you missed it with Brian Gantz,
the CEO of Burna. Really a neat product line, and
I don't think they got to it last week. But
one of the things that I think's worth mentioning is Burna

(01:42):
isn't just some company that came out of nowhere making
these Burna launchers. They are well established within within that
less lethal community. Matter of fact, we have carried their
Burner shields. We sell them right here at the store.
They are a level three ballistic shield that you could
drop into into a backpack, into a briefcase. We've shot

(02:04):
them here. Stop buying check those out. And then also,
and I don't think they mentioned this as well, but
they also own Fox Labs and for those who don't know,
Fox Labs is the probably the premiere OC or mace
that law enforcement carry. So these guys are are legitimate
and if you're in the market for something less lethal
like that, definitely check them out, whether it be from

(02:26):
the may side or the burner launcher side, definitely worthwhile
today on the show, if you're watching on Facebook or YouTube,
I want I want your opinion. This is genuine. I
was talking to some of the people in the listening
audience today when I found out that it's just going
to be me today, I thought, you know, I am.
I've been listening to some of our old openings and

(02:46):
monologues and these go back probably five or six years now,
and there's some out there that are that are worthwhile
and they're worthwhile in showing what was going on at
that time, whether it be during the riots or during
different things that have happened in society. And so I
was going to do kind of a best of the
openings and this, do four or five of them, talk

(03:07):
through them, talk through what was going on and stuff.
If that's something that you think's worthwhile in the future,
let us know, either chime in on Facebook or YouTube,
or send us an email on target at LPD dot com.
Let me know if that's something we should put together
for a future show, because I think it has value.
You know. The openings are kind of a passion of mine.
It's nothing that I do every week because there's nothing.

(03:30):
Sometimes there's just nothing to say. It always has to
rise to the level of impacting me or law enforcement
or the Second Amendment that I think it's important at
that time to write them. So I just want to
get your opinions out there, give us a shout, let
us know, stop by this door and let us know
that if it's worthwhile having that for a future show instead. Today,

(03:50):
got a couple of neat things coming up. We're gonna
start after some news. We're gonna welcome Jake, our sales manager,
on with us talk about some used fires. We have
a bunch of used firearms in stock right now due
to some estate sales we were handling due to police
trade ins. There is a lot of really neat things here.
Some stuff we don't typically carry new. So if you

(04:13):
typically don't come to LPD for a sportings, Clay's shotgun
we have some right now that are used that are
really really nice and neat. We're gonna talk about that
shortly when Jake comes on with us. What else, Oh,
twelve thirty, twelve thirty, you can't miss this. My good
friend Mike Kent owns River's Edge Cutlery. Great people, great store.

(04:35):
He's gonna jump on with us and actually a great
sponsor for us too. He's gonna jump on and talk
about what they're doing over there in the knife market,
trying to get some of their own knives out there
on the market. It's gonna be kind of neat, and
then talk about some of the other things in his store.
Really one of my favorite stores to go to, and
it's one that he gets me. Every time I go in.
I leave the wallet in the car, but it never

(04:56):
works because there's always something I walk out the door with.
So twelve thirty, Mike, it's gonna jump on with us
with that. We'd like to think our sponsors at US
law Shield just saw those guys this morning. Something of
note as well, in protecting yourself if you're carrying a firearm,
US law Shield also protects you in any defensive scenario.
So if you're carrying a let's say, a burner launcher.

(05:18):
I know Ed brought it up last week. What happens
if you are charged with brandishing that or if there's
some legal things that come down with having that. US
law Shield will back you on that as well. It's
not just about firearms, So something to consider and a
great partner of ours, Jackson Negress Windows. You know, I
had an opportunity this week to go out there and
check out their website a little bit more in depth

(05:39):
than I have for a while. It's really a neat
product line. If you haven't gone out there Jackson Egress Windows.
That little window that we all have that goes to
the basement that you can see outside. They do some
amazing things with turning that into either a full size
window or to an exit out of the basement. It's
really neat. They have a cool video it's about nine

(05:59):
minutes long that goes through the whole process. Really worthwhile
if you're in the market for that. Those guys are
definitely ones to consider. Black Wing Shooting Center always a
partner of ours. Up North, got some good things coming
up there too, and of course River's Edge Cutler are
going to be here with us later today talking about
some of their product line. Let's see today no JC

(06:19):
on the show. He's recovering from his son's wedding yesterday.
Haven't heard back from so I'm assuming he's still in
that recovery mode. Ed is actually out on his motorcycle
today riding doing a poker run for the fallen Officer
of morro County. So good to have Ed back out
there on the bike. So it's just really right now.

(06:40):
It's just Ellen and I Ella. We can call it
the East Squared Show. If that works for you.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
It's your show, you're in charge.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
No, it's our show today, you know. Let's see what
else we have there. Oh, if you miss the show,
you can always catch the podcast. Ellen does a great
job getting it right out there on the podcast. It's
on iTunes and it's on Google podcast YouTube, really any
place you get your shows. We're out there and we're

(07:07):
out there quick, so certainly go out there and check
it out if you don't hear it live during the week.
So let's talk about some news No JC today. So
I'm not gonna probably do as good of a job
as John, but there was some news out there that
was worth hearing. About this week one, and this is
kind of a little bit of unfortunate news. The Senate
is starting to back down a little bit on the

(07:28):
Suppressor Bill and the Short Act. The way this stuff goes,
who knows it could come back around, but it's a
little bit disappointing to hear, especially on the suppressor part
of that. There's really no reason that that has to
be tied up in the NFA and paying tax stamps,
and that should just be an over the counter type
of an item, as is firearms. We can walk into

(07:49):
a store, So we'll see how that shakes out. But that,
nonetheless was some news this week the ATF, who is
continuing under the new administration to kind of due away
with some of the the old policies that were just horrific.
They announced this week a Biden policy. A lot of
people probably don't even know what this is. They reverse

(08:11):
a prior ruling on something called simmunitions. And simmunitions are
a training type round that is fired out of a
normal firearm with a special barrel, So you have to
get a different barrel to take this round. But then
it's used in training and it's a marker type round,
so when you fire it, and it hits your target,
it leaves a little mark. So it's great for law

(08:33):
enforcement training and first responder training because you can see,
you have a visual of where that round went. Well.
Under the Abiden administration, for some unknown reason, they made
that round basically illegal for civilians to have, which makes
no sense at all, but you know why, it makes
sense of some of these things. So because of that,
a lot of these are imported. And what that did

(08:56):
for us is because it couldn't go in the civilian hands,
we couldn't carry them here in the store. We could
order them for an agency and it would go right
to the agency, but we would never see it. And
what that did is when agencies were in training and
they needed, you know, a couple of boxes, or they
needed a thousand rounds real quick, we couldn't give it
to them off the shelf because we weren't allowed to

(09:16):
carry it. So that's stuff like that. That's just little
things were starting to see ease up. So another good
thing coming out of the new administration here shortly, let's say, oh,
speaking of new and this one, I'm not quite sure
what the take's going to be, but Attorney General bond
Ai a BONDI commented this week on a possible merger

(09:37):
of the ATF and the DEA. I don't know about that.
I you know, I'm not one of these. Hey, the
ATF needs to go away, but it certainly needs reforms
to bring them back to their roots of going after
the bad guys with guns or the bad stores. But
I don't know if a merger with the DEA is
the right thing on that. And in one of her lines,

(09:58):
which I really don't agree with, is hey, you know,
guns and drugs they kind of go together, So these
two departments can go together. Well, i'd argue guns and drugs.
You know, one is highly illegal and one is one
of our constitutional rights here. So I don't know about that.
More to come. Hopefully that shakes out. I think the
NSSF is actually against it. So hopefully somewhere in the

(10:19):
middle there we at least get some you know, further
ATF changes that will go good going forward. Speaking of
and I know I called in this last week and
mentioned this, but the demand two programs gone. That was
a great win for the gun stores and so forth.
And what else? Oh, big banks, Big banks this week

(10:41):
are kind of blinking on their discrimination against the firearms industry.
So now with some of these new things coming down,
they claim they're going to start judging some of the
applications on their merits and not let it influenced them
on what type of business that is, so such as
a firearms business. It's good. Hopefully it's good for the industry,

(11:05):
but you know, I don't I don't easily forget some
of the things we experienced with them, and and I'd
never call for a boycott of these places. But you know,
for me, there ain't gonna be no Huntington in my future.
There's no GROUPOND, there's no NFL, and there's no Dicks
and so it's just, you know, from past experiences, it's

(11:25):
just it's not for me. You know, people show their
true colors. Businesses show their true colors during the tough times,
and these guys show their true colors. So not for me.
But it's good to hear that that industry is coming
back around. And what else, this one's gonna stir the
pot a little bit. So we did a story this
week with Spectrum News. Good story. We were highly involved

(11:47):
in getting these gun safes out, especially because of all
the stuff that's going on with with theft out of
a car, and the story was good, but it took
a little bit of a different twist. And at the
top of the story it was a a doctor with
Ohio Health and we partner with them for providing some
of these safes that they hand out to some of
these families. But the doctor, the whole mantra of it was,

(12:08):
you know, guns are the leading cause of death amongst
our beloved children. And when you hear that, you think, wow,
more than car accidents and guns, I mean, we're really
that's what we're at. And that's and they went on
to say, you know, how can we live in a
civilized society when guns are killing our kids? And that's
a powerful statement. That's a big proclamation there. So of

(12:31):
course we do, like we always do, we kind of
dug deep in it, and we addressed this before, probably
about six months ago. But here's the rest of that story.
Not to say there we're any less about giving away
gunlocks or gun boxes, but there's more to that story.
The study he was referencing, I think came out of
John Hopkins, and it referenced the death rate amongst children

(12:56):
ages one to nineteen. Now, when I look at that,
and I'm thinking children what nineteen. I mean, I'm seeing
the thugs that are running around the streets and stuff.
They're fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, but they're lumping those
under the children category here. Now, according to the CDC,
the death rate is measured in number of deaths per

(13:19):
hundred thousand. That's their measurement. So just to give you
a frame of reference, according to the CDC, the death
rate of firearms, the death rate of children's dying by
firearms in the white community is three point seventy five
per one hundred thousand, three point seventy five per hundred thousand.

(13:39):
The death rate of firearms amongst Asian kids is two
per hundred thousand. The death rate amongst Hispanic kids about
four per hundred thousand. All of these categories, all of
these categories that we mentioned, the leading calls of death
in that age group. For these it's car accidents. It's

(14:03):
car accidents. It's been that way forever. Here's the rest
of the story. The death rate by firearms amongst the
black kids since twenty twenty, since everything is exploded, and
it really it continues today is twenty two per one
hundred thousand, twenty two per one hundred thousand. It actually

(14:26):
has gone so crazy that the deaths by guns in
that community has for over two decades now been firearms
has been the leading calls of death for two decades.
This isn't new news. It has gone so bad that
has now brought up the average of all kids all kids.

(14:50):
The gun lock boxes are important, but putting these in
your home this isn't gonna solve what we're seeing out there.
It's the thugs stealing them from cars and stealing them.
That's why we're a part of getting these gunlock boxes out.
It's not about locking me in your home, although that's
very important, but that's not what we're seeing in these communities.
And until we recognize that, until the media recognizes that

(15:12):
and say, look, we need to help these communities, we're
not gonna see any changes, and they can continue to
say the leading cause of death among these kids it's firearms,
which is totally misleading. So there you have it. There's
the rest of that story. When we come back from
this break, when we talk to Jake, our sales manager here,
talk about some of the used firearms that we have
out here on the table and much much more. In

(15:34):
the cases we're on talking broadcasting live from the studios
of LAPD Firearms Arrange. We'll be back back to the break, Ella,
we're playing country now. You know, if people could hear
what you put me through.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
You tell me to do something off the air, and
then I do it and you bust my balls.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
On the air.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
I know it. No, you know what the jelly roll
if you don't know who that is? I really didn't
know who that was. Do you listen to that Jake?

Speaker 4 (16:02):
Not really?

Speaker 1 (16:03):
Not really? Ella? Do you listen to jelly roll? No way?

Speaker 2 (16:08):
I turned on jelly Rolls mic instead of mine.

Speaker 4 (16:11):
Yeah, a little bit.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
You know what I was at the I worked at
Bucky Music Fest last week, and I mean, I don't
I mean I like country, I don't really know it.
And uh but when he got you can tell like
a true entertainer. And when he got up on stage,
I guess he has roots in Columbus. I mean he
rattled off all these small venues he played in Columbus
and Grove City and Scullies in Newport, and it was

(16:34):
very emotional about playing in a highest stadium and you
could tell, I mean a true entertainer, just the way
he talked between songs. And at one point there was
someone in the audience that had a sign up. I said,
they were clean for so long, and I guess that's
one of his big things. And he totally went off
and did a song they weren't planning on playing. I mean, really, really,
I grew a better appreciation for him. Are you talking

(17:00):
to me? I was just talking out there, you know,
That's what I thought. But that was a lot of silence, yeah,
a lot of So it was good though it was
It was definitely good. But maybe we'll have to start
incorporating some of that that new music into our repertoire.
All right, Jake, we have a lot of used firearms

(17:22):
right now. Tons we have we have people coming in
all the time wanting to sell firearms, you know, on
trades and so forth. And we also do quite a
few estate sales where we get a bunch at a time,
and we just happened to be one of those periods
where we have a lot from a lot of different places,
some police trades and stuff. So I thought today for
a couple of minutes, we go through some of these
things we have because a lot of it is stuff

(17:44):
that you might not necessarily think, Oh, I'm not going
to go to l EPD for a trap and skeek gun.
We have a couple now that are that are worth
coming here to check out. Or a long range rifle
might not be your first choice to come here for,
but it's definitely something you need to come check out.
So I'll rattle off a couple of these, Jake, you
tell me a little bit about them and why someone

(18:04):
needs to come in here and take a look at them. Sure,
all right? You ready from an undisclosed list. You don't
know Benelli M three so.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
Yeah, so it's a it's an older U Benelli M
three Super ninety. So it's basically a convertible shotgun, so
you can switch it really simply actually between either pump
action or semi auto. And it's ben La so obviously
it's you know, good quality. Yeah, it's kind of like

(18:33):
a product improved past.

Speaker 1 (18:36):
Well right, right, it's kind of what it is. Yeah,
and it looks like it's an excellent condition. We were
talking about sporting play guns. What's the one did you
bring up here? Though?

Speaker 4 (18:44):
So I've got you yep, So the one that is
up here right now. It's a Bretta A four hundred
Explore in twenty gauge. Really nice. I believe it's a
twenty eight inch rib with fiber stick SciTE up front,
real nice finish, nice woods. Got a enhanced recoil pad

(19:05):
on there as well. So I've got that guy that
we have up here, and then I've also got two
other nice Italian sporting clay guns. I've got another Barretta
in twelve gauge, and then I've got a Frankie twelve
gauge as well. Wow, So to come in to check
those ones out because they're not.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
Up here, they're not and those are something I mean,
we don't typically carry this line. We can get stuff
if people are looking for it, but it's not something
you would typically walk into LPD and see new on
the shelf. But again, on the U side of things,
there's a pretty good selection of him there. Kind of
jumping around a little bit on the brettas. We got
a Bretta seventy s that walked in the other day,

(19:48):
something you might not recognize by number, but it's a
little bit unique in that this one's in a twenty
two caliber. Yeah, twenty two caliber kind of old school
Burretta Semiato. Nice little gun. Great for a collector too, yeah,
you know, being kind of a more of a little
bit more of a unique thing. Yeah. And speaking of

(20:09):
collector too. Cult single action army that came in a
couple of weeks ago now really in good shape, got
a couple of little things with it. Definitely one that
you wouldn't worry about shooting. But you know, to walk
in and see an old cult single action army on
the shelf.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
You wanted a single action army for a shooter, that
one is going to be a great option. It's got
the black grips color case frame on there and it's
in forty five long colt with a five and a
half inch barrel.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
So yeah, and speaking of kind of collector or, one
that you probably good chew. Two this week we got
in and this isn't super rare, but we don't see
it every day. Two Glocks Fun nineteen one twenty three.
I believe in the original other gentoos and the original
tuppleware containers, which is kind of neat to see, I mean,
when you don't see those every day. The nineteen looks

(20:58):
new with all the things that would have come with
at the time, but also the twenty three.

Speaker 4 (21:05):
Yeah, absolutely, they're you know, cool older glocks if you're
into glocks and or if you're into collecting or whatever,
you know, they'd lack some of the features of the
modern ones, like you know, obviously you're not gonna get
an optic cut on something that old. You're not gonna
get you know, on the Gen two's they don't have
the accessory rail yet, so you can't put a light

(21:27):
on there or whatever.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
But they're they're just cool. They're a cool factory, and
we're not talking big money on them and stuff.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Now.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
As a side I just kind of message Paul. Paul says,
put the Colt Single Action Army back for him. But
you're gonna have to really discount it, he says. So
Jake said, you have to use your discretion on that one. Guys,
let's jump to the bottom of our news. When we
come back on the other side, we're gonna talk about
more about used firearms, a couple of little new things
coming on at l EPD here too shortly, and then
we're gonna get to my friend Mike ken Over at
Rivers Edge Cutler. We're on talking about bacasting live from

(21:57):
the studios of LPD Farms Range. We'll be back right
after the news. Welcome back, ton Target. I'm your wh's
Eric joined today in the LAPD studios. Ella is back,
moving all the levers, keeping everything going. Got to my right,
our sales manager, Jake. We're talking about used guns and
actually Mike, my good friend from Rivers that had just
stepped up. Too. Good to see you. Thanks, Eric, appreciate

(22:18):
being Yeah, always good to see here. We're gonna get
to some of your toys in front of me there
here in a second.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
Sounds great.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
So, Jake, we're talking about used firearm. Some of the
stuff that's available right here in the store kind of
off air we talked. You know, we only have a
few up here on the counter. There is a ton
of used what I would call normal firearm. I looked
out there today. I saw a Smith and Wesson Bodyguard
two point zero, which is the hot ticket right now,
used but never fired. I mean there's that quality that

(22:46):
sits over there.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
Yeah, we got a ton of stuff in right now
that's like, you know, normal stuff that we carry, but
got used versions of it right now, so you can
pick it up at a you know, a really good price.
We look for something, you know, your average guns that
we were normally carrying. Then the last, the last one
that we have up here, it's a really nice Remington's
seven hundred, got the fluid varnment barrel on there, chambers

(23:12):
three oh eight twenty inch barrel on that comes with
a bipod and a Vortex Viper six or twenty four
on there. Wow, pretty nice, kind of out of the
box set up. If you wanted to just you know,
come and grab something so you can shoot a little
long range and stuff like that. It's really nice.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
And a lot of these, Jake, I mean you your
cell phone and myself are one of the ones who
really look at the guns when they come in. Most
of the stuff we have is in really really good condition.
I mean we scrutinize stuff. I mean something that comes
in the door and it's we know it's not in
good condition. Of course, we check them out with the
gunsmith and so forth. A lot of times we don't

(23:52):
take them in. So in and of itself, the vast
majority of the ones we have are really good condition,
many with the original boxes and so forth. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
Yeah, well, you know a lot of people don't shoot
their guns as much as you might think. So yeah,
you know, when we get stuff, you know a lot
of times it's practically brand new, right.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
People just want to change or try something else out
on the new front. Two big news things this week
at L e p D One. We are an official
aim point distributor now, which allows us to offer the
l discount and then also have a wide variety of
aim points in stock, not here at the moment, but

(24:32):
some of them in a route we can get really
any of the ones out there.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
Yep, got the got the first batch kind of on
the way. You know, obviously we are already have some
of the acros in stock, but we've got some of
the rifle optics on the way. You know, Uh, it's
gonna be it's gonna be good stuff. You can get
some uh, get some high end optics in here.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
Yeah, and they're good, good company. And you know, it's
funny because we we were complaining a little bit about
the process to become a dealer. It wasn't easy. One
point I got an email said Sweden is reviewing your application.
Like wow, but we did. We went through all the
stages and process, so it's a good thing, and it
allows us to be nimble in that space a little

(25:12):
bit and bid them out agencies and then also provided
here locally for law enforcement and anyone who walks in
the door.

Speaker 4 (25:19):
So yep, they were. They were having some trouble making
enough optics to you know, kind of fulfill the orders
for glock. But we just got some of the Glock
nineteen co's back and stuff.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
Which we never see, I mean, we have. It has
been a difficult task getting any of the coas. So
these have the point already mounted on them. It's been
difficult getting those in stock. We have five or six
right now, the nineteen. If they're still here, it's gonna
be a hot ticket. They are, they are. It is
definitely if you're in the market for Glock nineteen or

(25:56):
something that size and you've been considering an optic and
it's actually a decent deal too, versus if you were
to buy them separately. Yeah, the deal.

Speaker 4 (26:03):
Versus buying it separately, you say, a couple hundred bucks
at least. Yeah, Yeah, that's a great deal.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
Yeah, So definitely stop buying check us out. We have
the police trade still. We have Smith and Wesson forty
five that are on police trades. We have some forties
coming from Smith and Wesson and from Shield forties. There
are gonna be en roots soon. There's a lot here
right now. So if you just want to stop buying
brows something that will certainly catch your eye, or ask
the guys, you know, just check out anything, because we

(26:30):
can certainly help in that regards anything else out there. Jake,
do we go through a few of the hundred that
we have here?

Speaker 4 (26:37):
I think yeah, I think we covered the you know,
the the standouts.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
The standouts there. You go, guys, we're gonna jump to
an early break because on the other side, we're gonna
get to my good friend Mike Kent of a River's
Edge Cutler. You're gonna check in with them, see how
things are going, talk about their beautiful building over there
and some of the knives they're making. Now, so let's
jump to the break. We are on TURG broadcasting live
from the studios of LPD Farms Arranger. We'll be back
right after the break. I don't think that's jelly roll. Well,

(27:09):
you're such a big fan, figured I do. I go
week to week. Welcome back to on Target. I'm here
Steric joined today in the LPD studio. I got jeeked.
To my right, Ella's working the board back at the station,
and to my left is my good friend Mike. How
are you, sir.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
I'm doing well.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
Thanks, you know, always good to see. So glad you
were able to make it into It makes so much
of a difference to be here in person to talk
about this and touch and feel some of the things
that you brought in for us today. For those of
you who don't know, Mike and your brother right ye
are the owners of River's Edge Cutlery, tell us a
little bit about how you got there. You didn't just
wake up one day and have a big, beautiful building

(27:44):
and open up a knife company.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
Right, No, this has been twenty one years now in
the works. Started out just in a small strip mall
and just selling knives, sell as many as we could.
This was Internet was just starting, so we really didn't
have an Internet presence in the beginning and basically just
sold to walk in customers, which was it was tough.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
We had a rough road in the beginning, like you
know what, we have to get online.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
We have to get online, and finally we did and
that also you start out small and grew from there,
and yeah, it just grew from there and once.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
I was able to afford it. My goal is to
always have a building.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
Always wanted to buy a building, and I also all
loved to be in the shop making things. So we
decided to buy a building and start making knives. And
so we'll still have the retail. We could walk in
buy knives from all different brands, and in the back
we have all of our machinery and we make our
own line of knives.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
Now, you know, most people aspire to, you know, to
buy it a little building, a little little I mean you,
and I mean your building is beautiful. It's the old
Bobby Rayhall building, right it is.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
It is pretty proud.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
It is gorgeous. I mean it is absolutely gorgeous. And
so I mean it shows very very well. And I'm
proud of you guys. I think you was your original
store right there on saw My Alman sixty one. It was, Yeah,
I remember stopping in there in the day.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
That's wild.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
Yeah, we we have four years. That was twenty one
years ago we opened up over there? Was it really
twenty two years in August? I probably carry on equipment
from there. Still, that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
You know so good. So now you know you're in
the big building and now you're you're delving into the
making of knives. We are.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
It's I'm not gonna lie. It's a rough road.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
Manufacturing is it's a different animal, specially because I don't
have a background of manufacturing our guys, do you know?

Speaker 2 (29:23):
We hired a few people with good skills.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
I've been doing it for thirty years and without them
we couldn't make our own nives because I'd be sitting
there by hand, you know, probably take four or five
days to make one knife. Now with the machines, you know,
we could pump them out, which is really nice. And
everything is so down to the literally the thousands of
an inch is where we're getting everything down to. So there,
I'm not gonna stay perfect, but they're as close as

(29:47):
perfect as we can get them.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
And yeah, I think they're coming out really nice.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
That's scat And what's the brand name that you're putting
that is.

Speaker 3 (29:53):
Under So that's gonna be Hellbender Blade Co. And if
you're not familiar with a hellbender, it's actually like a
giant salamander and they are in Ohio are Yeah, there
a lot of the species are endangered. They're very subceptive
to if the water is not in the in the
best conditions, they don't make it. While a lot of

(30:13):
the people go around and they test these words and
if they notice the hellbender was there and two years
later there's no hellbenders, well you got a problem in
the water, because that's a really it's a share tell
that something's wrong.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
That's good. And you to some of the big knife shows, right,
so you have had good luck. Now the words starting
to get out.

Speaker 3 (30:32):
Yeah, absolutely, we got to get them in front of
uh so making the knives and doing this so long.
I've known a lot of other knife retailers, so yes,
their competition, but we're friends, you know, just kind of
like you and I are.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
We overlapping a little bit, but it's okay.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
So a lot of our dealer friends are going to
take our line in, which helps us out commendously. So
right away I could get them into I'm just gonna
start small, you know, get them into one or two
dealers and hopefully grow a dealer network here in the
next couple of years.

Speaker 1 (30:59):
Wow, that's great, Jake. You're you're in an eye and
you kind of have a fancy for a KNYE on THEE. Yeah,
you like knives and stuff. You know, I have a knife.
I showed you, I I showed you my knife's great
little knife. Yeah, I think I got it from you guys.
So so, I mean, obviously the your your line of
your own knives is wonderful, and uh, you know, a
segment of what you sell, you sell a lot of

(31:20):
knives there. Yes, talk about those who kind of like
myself who aren't in that realm. What differentiates a good
knife from a great knife from a cheap knife.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
So, you know, going back to where I was talking about,
the tolerance is cheap knife, it's gonna have blade plates,
the lock up is not going to be good. And
it literally it could be a dangerous knife, especially law
enforcement or if you're depending on this knife for whatever
reason and it fails, it's you know, obviously you can
either get hurt or you know, or lose something that
you're trying to cut away or it's a it's a

(31:52):
big big deal to have tight tolerances and good quality.
So you buy a twenty dollars knife, you get twenty
dollars worth of knife.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
That's what's important.

Speaker 3 (32:00):
The materials they use also is a huge difference in pricing,
because you could have steel that costs you, you know,
eighty nine cents to cut out a blade or you know,
twenty three dollars to cut out a blade. There's a
big difference in price just in the raw materials alone.

Speaker 1 (32:11):
So what so do most people come in and purchase
a knife that they're going to carry and use or
is it? Wow, that is super cool, that's a nice knife.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
I'm gonna buy it. I'm gonna you know, sit it
at home. Yeah, that's funny. You know, earlier you're talking
about the guns, how people don't. They'll buy them and
maybe never shoot them, maybe even once, and then they
go into safe. Same thing in the knife world. People
buy them because they like them. They go in the
safe and you know, we call them safe queens. They
just they come out to look at them. They might
fire them a couple of times, you know, in and
out or something, and two years later they're back in

(32:41):
our store. Hey, I want to sell this, and you know,
so we have a lot a lot of consignment in
there because of that.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
Do they hold values or how I mean?

Speaker 2 (32:48):
Is so some do? Some do?

Speaker 3 (32:51):
Depending on the maker, the manufacture, the rarity because sometimes
people there'll be manufacturers even that'll make, you know, a
set of two hundred of these and ten years later
people still want those. But they made them ten years ago.
So now you paid five hundred bucks for it, Well,
now you get two thousand for it.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
So yeah, there's a lot of collectibility in some of
the knives just off the shelf knive typically not you're
gonna lose money as soon as you buy, just like
a car, you.

Speaker 1 (33:13):
Know, So what's a trade and value for this one?
It's been in ten bucks? All right, all right, that's
pretty good. That's a good knight. Kne got paid eighty bucks.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
That's at least Yeah, Yeah, it's a good knife.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
Yeah, you probably wouldn't let me pay full price for it.
You know. One of the things when I come to
your store too, there's there's a whole market of I
call them like first respondery type things, not necessarily a knife,
but things that have seatbelt cutters and window punches and
stuff like that. Talk about that market, I mean, is
that's something you tell quite a few of we do.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
We have a big law enforcement that do come in,
especially the hill of your guys over there. They're always
in But yeah, we sell a good amount of it
because when someone's buying a knife, it kind of goes
hand in hand to have a good you know, whether
it's a window punch or like those scissors right there,
they're they're they're good quality, not the ninety nineercent ones
you can buy anywhere. So they're gonna hold up for you.
They're going to have multiple features, good carry options. So

(34:06):
to me, you spend on whether they're seventy nine bucks
or something like that, if you take care and you're
gonna have in the rest of your life, they not
gonna break on you.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
And yeah, it's a good quality, right.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
And that's what I uh. Last time I was in
your store, I bought these and stuff was the leather, Yeah,
and they were I mean, people, why do you need
one hundred dollars pair of knife? Well, this one also
has the sepelt cutter in a window punch, but on
the streets, and I mean there is certainly applications for
having a scissor like that. I had a couple of
times I could have used it out there in the
field I'm hacking away with a knife where I could

(34:36):
have used that. The other thing is that that will
cut a pennyon half, you know. I mean they have
in your back pocket you always know you can cut
a pennion half. I mean, that's that's worth having and stuff.
But yeah, it's super cool, super sharp and certainly something
we could all have and you know, just to have
in the car for exactly the way they fold down
and their whole compack and easy to carry.

Speaker 2 (34:55):
I think that's what's really good about them too.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
Talk about automatic knives we u For the longest time
in Ohio they were kind of iffy on could you
own them? Could you not? You could buy them, but
you couldn't possess them. There's some goofiness there. How does
that nowadays? Now?

Speaker 2 (35:08):
It's great.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
There was a bill pass that they're legal to carry
now and whether it's an out the front or out
the side there you're allowed to carry at Ohio, which
I think is a great thing. Our automatic knives, you know,
really went up in sales for.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
That reason, do you like? I've always found it, Jake,
You have a couple auto knives, don't you. Yeah?

Speaker 4 (35:28):
I mean I almost exclusively carry out, do you really?

Speaker 1 (35:31):
I always and probably it was probably was probably buying
cheap stuff but I was always worried about it opening
up in my pocket and I was ticking my hand
in Ian the blades open. Right, we'll talk about what
I mean, what do you look for. I mean you
have to spend a little bit to get one that's
works and that's good.

Speaker 2 (35:47):
Absolutely. Yeah. The spring quality is very important.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
You don't want that thing failing again, especially if you're
in a situation where you need that knife deployed really quickly.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
Something like this.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
I'll show you guys that actually there's a button to
deploy this one. Push it over so it's really covered
like that. So there's there's different ways. I'll show you that.

Speaker 2 (36:05):
Things pretty neat.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
If you go with something like an out the front
where a lot of people come in that they'll grab
it like a microtech brand or a heartic and they
go to push it up like, oh, this is really stiff. Well,
by design, it's stiff so it doesn't accidentally deploying your
pocket stuff like the one I'm carrying. If you notice
the buttons of releasing a little bit so you don't accidentally.
So there's little things like that that you could look for.

(36:28):
Some benchmads are big ones where they'll actually have a
safety on it. Not all of them do, but some do. Okay,
you have to, you know, take the safety off then
you can deploy it.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Good good And you guys have a good selection of
the now definitely good good. You also are big and
a lot of times people don't think about this, like
kitchen knives and stuff. I mean we bought our set there.
I bought them for gifts from you guys. Talk about
the kitchen knife world.

Speaker 3 (36:49):
Yeah, we sell We definitely sell a lot of them,
mostly through the holidays, but you know, we all the
time get people and they just want a good kitchen knife.
I brought these in just to show you guys their
bench made and it's.

Speaker 2 (36:58):
There, the bench made.

Speaker 1 (36:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
Yeah, so they're really nice. We all American made.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
There's many different you know a lot of them from
Germany and there you got to be careful if you
go like whosted off hankles. Those are the German brands,
but with hankles they also have an international line where
it could be China and stuff like that. Not a
lot wrong with them, but they will not hold up
like the German line. They just the edge, retention, the handles,
just everything about them, the balance is not going to

(37:23):
be there the same. It's just the German lines are.
You just got to watch where you're buying them from
and what you're buying. And then of course you know
on our store with all that knowledge, and we're going
to share all that knowledge with you how to pick
it out.

Speaker 2 (37:33):
The comfort of them is very important.

Speaker 3 (37:35):
Different shapes for different applications basically, so yeah, and you
could buy individuals, you could buy sets, and then of
course we do lifetime free sharpening on them when you
do buy it.

Speaker 1 (37:44):
And it's crazy, and this is gonna sound like a
statement of the obvious, but when we bought the night
set from you a couple of years ago, oh my god,
it completely changes I mean I didn't know how much
I was sitting there saw and trying to saal through
an apple. I mean, it completely changes it. And then
bring them over to sharpen occasionally and yeah, yep, yeah,
definitely worth a while.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
Yeah, having the right knife for the job number one
makes it a lot easier. But most people don't understand
that their knives going dull every time they use it.
And two years go by, three years go by, and heck,
we have people. I got this when I was married
twenty years ago, never had them sharpened. There's a big different.
And then they get them sharpened, and then they come
in all cut up and look what you guys did
to me exact. Of course, it's all in fun, but

(38:25):
there's a big difference in a sharp knife. I don't
care if it's a five dollar knife for a five
hundred dollar knife, that five dollars knife is dull or
the five hundred dollar knife is dull, They're not gonna
cut how good the knife is.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
Keep your knives knife and sharp well.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
And for us, once I told the kids to stop
using the good knives to open packages, clean the mighte
out of their shoes. That that was also an impact. Yeah,
and keep them out of the dishwasher too, Yeah, absolutely so, yeah,
definitely on that. You tell other stuff too. I mean
that's what gets me every time I come in there.
I mean, just didn't the bad I think the last
time was in there, I bought a bag. Yeah, but

(38:58):
you guys have a lot of neat things like that.

Speaker 3 (39:00):
We do, and and a lot of the brands that
we carried more boutique style brands that you're not going
to see them in your big box stores.

Speaker 1 (39:05):
Or anything.

Speaker 3 (39:05):
That's that's why we kind of separate ourselves from them.
Where for most of the brands we carry, we we
know the owners or the whole crew, you know, we
know the people that make them. It For us, it
helps just enjoy the product. And you could tell when
you're buying something from somebody that they enjoy the product
that we're excited about it. You know that bag that
you bought, you know, we know how it was made.

(39:26):
We know the guys that you know are selling it
to us. And it's one of those things that are
we use them. You know, everything in our store, somebody
in our stores us. It almost everything we have in
our store.

Speaker 1 (39:36):
Yeah, and that and there's something to be said about that.
I mean when you I mean a lot of those bags,
it's not stuff you're going on Amazon to buy, right
and there's you can appreciate the quality of it. I mean,
I know, Jake, you're into the bag and all that
good stuff too. I mean it's it's definitely a higher quality. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (39:55):
I Mean they carry a lot of brands over there
that I'm a big fan of.

Speaker 1 (39:59):
So I mean maybe maybe for Christmas this year a
gift card the River's edge. There you go. Now you're talking. Yeah, great,
there you go. Well, really thanks for stopping by, Thanks
for being a sponsor of the show for a long time,
of course, and we really encourage people. If you haven't
been over there, you got I'm I'm kind of envious
you haven't. You haven't picked up on I'm envious of

(40:20):
your store. It's beautiful. I mean it is. It's truly
gorgeous and really worthwhile. And I think you guys do
events there too, you can we do? Yeah, so people
can come and one more time on the addresser where
you're located.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
Sure, it's forty six oh one Limeman Drive and it's
over in Hilliard And if you're familiar with that area,
right off A two seventy there, Scioto Valley is right
next door to us.

Speaker 2 (40:40):
And that's a big store.

Speaker 3 (40:41):
They carry pools and spas and bars and all that
kind of stuff. So that's what that's the landmark we
always use. But we're right there, we face two seventy Liman.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
Drive in Hilliards.

Speaker 1 (40:51):
Yeah, and I will admit, and I'm not proud to admit,
I was at Seta Valley recently and I didn't stop
buy you happened to be closed. I tried to get
the wife to go when I knew you're gonna be
open too, and she's like, why are we going this time?
We can go right now, not now? Yeah, so I
didn't get to. We drove by, but that was that
was it. I was gonna use my key, but I
don't want to, So no, we really I appreciate you

(41:14):
stopping buy and definitely check that out, and you know,
thanks for being a partner and a friend for all
these years and certainly keep in touch. We're looking forward
to uh to your line and maybe I mean we
do an l EPD version or something at some point
you know of it. I love it, So I mean
maybe like a twenty five dollars version you know that
that now.

Speaker 2 (41:31):
No, not by us anyway.

Speaker 1 (41:33):
Okay, okay, if you go to China for that, guys.
That is about it for the show. We got to
stop by and check out the used gun. We got
a lot of stuff in inventory right now. It's just
one of those times where the EBB and flows are
such where we have a lot of good inventory, a
lot of stuff we're excited about. Stop by, check it out, Jake.
We're still doing a ton of suppressors getting those back
within a lot of times, what twenty.

Speaker 2 (41:54):
Four or forty eight hours, a couple of days, you know,
a couple of days.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
I mean, no other time has it been that quick.
So you stop by on a Tuesday, and a good
chance on Friday you'll have that in your possession. So
definitely stop by and check that out. We have some here,
we have access to a ton more. And it goes
the same with with short barrel rifles as well. We
can turn those around super quick. I think we still
have some Daniels.

Speaker 4 (42:17):
Yeah, well the Daniel SBRs we are out of, okay,
just sort of the last one of those, or the
gentleman just picked it up yesterday actually from its approval,
so you know. And the form fours on the SBRs
sbs as well. We don't have any sbs is right now,
but all those form fours it's all the same turnaround time,

(42:39):
so you don't have to worry about it.

Speaker 1 (42:40):
And I think I told you, I think we're getting
some fn SBRs coming in shortly too, So yeah, definitely
stop by if that's something you've been considering. Not a
bad time to do it, you know, because the turnaround
is so quick, you know, like you're paying now and
picking up a year from now. So oh guy, thanks
for spending the time with us. Thanks Jake, Thanks to Mike,
Thanks to Ella for pulling all the levers back there

(43:03):
at the station. Next week we're going to talk a
little bit about the firearms that our forefathers used. I mean,
it's Fourth of July weekend. We got to talk about that, right,
So have a safe holiday going forward. Be careful if
you're out there amongst all the crowds downtown. And as always,
as always, guys, let's be careful out there.
