Speaker 1 (00:00):
And watching people fall from from a respected prominence is
always difficult for me. Once you have achieved in your
life the respect of at least you know a good
number of people, and then your head gets so daggone big,

(00:21):
You get so full of yourself that you start saying
the most ridiculous things. You lose me and I feel
bad for you. And I was just reading through No
I'm not talking about you. I'm just reading through Twitter
during the break here, and uh, I'm just gonna say
it Denes Desusa, who I'm assuming this is really his

(00:44):
Twitter feed. It's got the blue check mark and all
that kind of stuff, and lots of people comment on
the stuff that he posts and says, you know, I
don't even bother to pay attention to you anymore because
you put out these deceiving headlines and.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
And it just this guy.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
You know, he had a couple of films and books,
and he was all over the talk show circuit and everything,
and people were really looking at him and going this,
this man knows what he's talking about. But this Twitter
feed is man, it's uh, honestly, it just doesn't seem
like him. Maybe he's got somebody who's tweeting on his behalf,

(01:24):
but it doesn't sound like him, and we see this.
Uh you know again, if you get so full of
yourself that you start spouting ridiculousness, I feel sad. I
feel bad for you and Stephen King same way. You know,
I'm constantly picking on Stephen King because this guy. First
of all, I didn't think he was a great author.

(01:45):
He was a successful author, but I didn't think he
was a great ath. I can't. Are you a Stephen
King fan?

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah? I love his.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Books really the movies. The movies I can handle because
they're cut down. But Stephen King. The problem with Stephen
King as far as being an author.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
He's a little wordy.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Yeah, a little wordy, A little wordy. He if you
need ten words, he will find a way to use
one hundred.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
That's correct.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
It's ridiculous. He is just Joe adjective, and he he
gets carried away with it. I tried reading The Stand
and I tried because of David Soul being in the movie,
and I was a David Soul fan. I tried to
read Salem's Lot, both of which were just ridiculously worthy.
You know, he owned No, I didn't. What did it

(02:34):
broadcast his books.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
It was up in Maine and it was like seventies,
Like all of his DJs were like Fred Zeppelin, come on.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
And he used to go out of like bash radio shows,
especially shock jocks. Yeah, yeah, like it. It was not as
good as the old top writing.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
I just when Pete, like I said, when you get
you get prominence, you get some respect, you get some note,
and then you get so full of yourself that you
start spouting stupid stuff.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
I feel bad for.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
You, just the way I am speaking to people who
spout stupid stuff. Kim's supposed to be back tonight. Alec
Stone from ABC, you're.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Gonna say that was me nothing about You're not You're
not close to stupid unless it's like one of the
you know the kids stoopid way, oh man, that's stupid.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
Okay, so you might be like that kind.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Riz and all that kind of stuff.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Yeah, and other and other things. I have to look
up and so so kim O. Kim O was off
for four shows and now ABC Disney says he's coming back. However,
for people who are in markets like we are here
in Columbus, Ohio, that doesn't mean us.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yeah, so he comes back tonight.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
It doesn't mean it's gonna air everywhere, but we know
his gaest line up already. There have been big questions
of symbolically.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Who it was going to be.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
And then it's gonna be Glenn Powell, who's promoting his
new sports comedy TV series you remember him, Top Gun,
map Rick and some other movies, and Sarah McLaughlin will
be the musical guest. But on Instagram a little while ago,
Kimmel sent out a message saying we were all back,
full of love. But all of this, of course, you know,
sparking the controversy of the over the last week and

(04:16):
the comments he made about the murder of Charlie Kirk
and conservatives, and then the fa FCC chair Brendan Carr
going on Betty Johnson's podcast to say in this.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Well, look, we can do this the easy way or
the hard way.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
These companies can find ways to change conduct, to take
action frankly on Kimmel, or you know, there's gonna be
additional work for the.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
FCC ahead, to which the big owners of ABC affiliate
TV station Sinclaia Nextstar said, well, they wouldn't near Kimmel.
So the implications were clear for local TV stations who
have broadcast licenses and mergers in the works that they
need DOJ approval of what the pressure was going to
be there, and then Kimmel's show was paused indefinitely by

(04:59):
our parent com the Walt Disney Company. But in these
last couple of weeks, I mean you really on both
sides have heard multiple different views on this, including from
a number of Republicans Chuck including Center Ted Cruz, who
is not a fan of Kimmel but came out in
at least against what the any kind of pressure that
the administration would put on broadcasters to censor speech. Cruz

(05:24):
liking what Carr said to a mafia leader and said
on a podcast that he can't support it.

Speaker 5 (05:29):
I think it is unbelievably dangerous for government to put
itself in the position of saying we're going to decide
what speech we like and what we don't, and we're
going to threaten to take you off air if we
don't like what you're saying.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
And what Cruz pointed out there is he said, look,
whoever the next administration is or the one after that
could turn it around on the other side, and that
it could be especially with conservative talk radio extremely dangerous
to conservatives but on the left. Protests broke out at
ABC stations nationwide over anger of Kimmel being silenced of
his words. Whoever did it, whoever made the decision, whether

(06:06):
it was Disney or the local stations, or the government
putting the pressure on, but protesters saying, I guess get
more people to talk about how important free speech really is.
And so just less than a week, Disney says it
after its suspended production of Jimmy Kimmel Alive to avoid
what they said, further inflaming a tense situation at an
emotional moment for a country, and it called Kimmel's comments

(06:28):
ill timed and thus insensitive, but says that it's had
thoughtful conversations with Kimmel and the show will return today.
But as you mentioned Chuck Sinclair Next Star, they will
continue to postpone the show. Sinclair is saying that they're
having discussions with ABC about the show's return. Next Star
is saying if people want to watch it, they can
watch it on a Disney streaming platform. Their viewers can

(06:51):
find it there, But tonight, everywhere else in the country,
at least most places, it's going to be back on
the air.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
And it's kind of odd here. I think Ted Cruz
is right on the money, honestly, And this is one
of the problems with people who are are obloviating and
boisterous when they open their mouths, like unfortunately our president
and some of the people in his administration this you know,
you're you're against this presidency and you might lose your
license on Just stop that crap. Let the chips fall

(07:19):
where they may, Kim O, I have no idea, and
they're not going to say, I'm quite sure whether he's
going to come out and issue any sort of maya
copa or whether he's going to come out and yeah,
and just you know, with the general arrogance of moving
forward without acknowledging the situation at all. But I find
it really interesting, Alex, this all is happening on the
same day that the Google testimony comes out and Google

(07:41):
talks about how they were pressured severely by the Biden
administration to limit the free speech of people when they
were talking about COVID and elections and all that stuff.
Thousands of Americans that were deplatformed on Google and YouTube,
which I you know, watch these two class Jimmy Kimmel
versus thousands of Americans. All the fingerpointing may need to

(08:01):
stop long enough for people to actually think about what's
going on.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
Yeah, and I mean it moved very rapidly in the
last week. You know, there were the questions of was
his show canceled. There was a belief early on that
it was canceled, and then it became well, no, it's
not an indefinite pause, and there were discussions. It was
publicly known there were discussions going on behind the scenes
of what was Disney going to do, and now they've
decided after talking to him, to.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Bring him back.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
Now, remember, you know, as a president has talked about
taking away the licenses from networks. Networks don't have licenses,
the individual stations have them because they are the ones
actually broadcasting over the airwaves. So this is a decision
that the now Sinclair and Nexstar have made for their
business reasons to do it and their decisions to do

(08:46):
it moving forward.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
So now it'll.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
Be on whatever they decide, but the program will be
provided to the local stations and then up to the
local stations of what they want to do.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Have you ever considered Late Night with Alex stone.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
You don't want to hear my it'd be really boring.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
Your voice actually reminds me back when I was a kid.
I'm going to tell you this. There was a guy
on Saturday mornings back when we actually did a little
educating of our children with cartoons. Yeah, and it was
a CBS. It wasn't ABC, but it was. They had
something called I'm Christopher Glenn. This is in the news,
and it was like a little sixty second. It was

(09:22):
a sixty second you know, news of the week type
stuff for kids. And I actually remember those stories and
all that kind of stuff. We don't do that anymore.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
Do you remember Nickelodeon Kid News for kids?

Speaker 1 (09:33):
Oh? Yes, something as well, at an anchor desk and everything.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Yeah, I remember the woman who would do it.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
What was her name? Yes, yeah, she did it forever. Oh,
it's gonna bug me now.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
They had it.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
I think every network has tried kid's news at some point.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
But you just have a very friendly voice like that.
I could see you doing something like in the news
for the youngsters, even if you did it at eleven
thirty at night. Linda, right, Yeah, she went over she
went over to that other network and did their Overnight
News with Lloyd Dobbins.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
Wowe past me.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
That was ABC News Overnight. Then CBS jumped on board
had Charlie Rose hosting with an anchor named Lark McCarthy
and uh, and Lloyd Dobbins and Linda Lerb were on NBC.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Chuck, you're pulling these names out of nowhere, out of
that mind there that that's pretty amazing, you know, I'm
her doing that reminds me of all the like MTV
VJs you know now and they'll pop up somewhere on
like Sirius XM or somewhere else you go. Man, it
brings it right back there and now here. In our
bureau in LA we work with Chris Connelly, who if
you remember him from MTV many many years ago, And

(10:45):
it's so crazy to sit there and talk to him
and think man as a child watching him on MTV
and like he was so young back then and I
was a child, And now here he is sitting here
doing you know whatever with us, But wasn't.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
The TV and twenty minutes with Kurt Loader and somebody
else Kurt later too, Yeah, yeah, I remember. Oh, it's
bringing back memory.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
This feels like a Chris Farley skit from Saturday Night Live.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
You remember, Yeah, that was cool. I remember alextone ABC News.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
I don't know if anything further will develop on the
Kimmel story, but if it does, we'll be coming to you.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
You got it. I appreciate you, buddy.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
You have a wonderful afternoon. It's uh, it's it's not
bad here now, partly claud these guys. You got a
complete forecast all the way for you. Plus, I don't
know if you Uh, is that a Google call? I
think we've got a Google Maybe we'll have a Google
call because people, You know, that's an interesting thing, especially
as I was telling Alex this twist that today, of
all days, Jim Jordan was chairing this committee and uh,

(11:43):
and Google finally came out and admitted, Yeah, they manipulated.
They canceled people. They prohibited free speech. Anybody who was
out there who was disagreeing with with COVID and Anthony
Fauci and and you know, masking in the bathtub and
and invermectin and cover your mouth when you and all
that kind of stuff. If you were saying wrong stuff, man,

(12:03):
they deplatformed you. They took away your YouTube access, your
Google search access, They had all that thousands of Americans.
They did it with pressure from the Biden administration, which
kind of makes the Jimmy Kimmel story pale in comparison.
