(00:00):
Thanks for listening. It's the MarkBlazer Show with Josh Cec and let's bring
in Christian Cordero from ABC News andHey, on a side note, Christian,
I was, I was like, you know, searching you up earlier
when I was booking this, andI saw no, no, no,
it's nothing. I just thought,I was just like, man, you
(00:21):
work with some incredibly nice people.CCC. I think it was in it
was in Twin Cities maybe is thatwhere that was or I'm trying to WCCO.
I feel like I'm an honorary Minnesotanand the Midwatch is so close to
my heart because it was just anincredible experience and just a special part of
the country. Yeah, and Isaw I saw them like having you.
(00:43):
You were on the set there andthey were saying goodbye to you, and
they were playing like a montage ofpeople that were and I go, wow,
she clearly that's the mark of somebodywho is really liked in this business.
And there's plenty I guess there couldbe plenty of I don't know,
haters, if you will, butit's seemed legitimate. And I was watching
that and I just thought I wouldmention that too. Because I thought it
(01:03):
was really cool that you know, your workmates did that. That's really that
says something in this business that's socutthroat. You know. Yeah, I
totally agree, and thanks so much. Mark. That's really kind of you
to say all of that. I'llthen know you later, I guess,
but you know, I mean,we go through a lot in this business.
We don't always kind of give thepeak behind the curtain because it's not
(01:26):
about us. But I think stufflike that is a testament, right,
absolutely, one hundred percent. Andthis this job sometimes is thankless and you
put everything you got into it,and I can relate, and so can
Josh and everybody who does you know, this kind of work for a living.
But onward and upward, here wego. This was pretty interesting,
and I think Democrats are kind ofthey're kind of scrambling with this, although
(01:51):
I was like, that's why Iwanted to talk to you about it,
to get the actual story about howthis letter proposing Biden's virtual role call is
going to happen here. Right,So, I feel like in any other
year this might be a little bittoo much inside baseball, but this is
obviously not like any other year, and essentially what happened was there was a
(02:13):
virtual roll call that was given atwo week window to accommodate a ballot access
issue in Ohio specifically, as youlikely have reported on several times, but
that issue has since been resolved. So now some committee members within the DNC
are basically saying, why are westicking with the virtual role call instead of
an in person one at the convention? And the elephant in the room with
(02:34):
that question, of course, isthat there is a growing lack of confidence
that President Biden will for sure bethe party's nominee, and so at the
very least, the optics suggests,as you mentioned, that they're in shambles
trying to figure out where they areas a party and whether he's actually going
to back out, because remember, ultimately it is his call to back out.
(02:55):
But there's no doubt that there hasbeen growing pressure even as recently as
today for him to drop out. There were some questions that maybe, you
know, the tragedy that happened overthe weekend and the investigation that has followed
has maybe changed that tone a littlebit, but it certainly seems like today
has has refocused a lot of theenergy back within the Democratic party at least
(03:20):
into questioning whether Biden is fit toone as they want to win in November,
and two to lead for another fouryears. Yeah, it was being
reported. We talked about at thetop of the hour because we just came
on at three Christian and it waslike Adam Schiff now is the He's the
most notable Democrat to come out atleast publicly about this whole situation. And
(03:42):
we know that the calls have beencoming. I mean, you know,
George Klooney was one of those oneand I know obviously he's not a politician,
but you've got a guy who wasjust with him along with Julia Roberts
and an Obama at one of theyou know, they raised twenty eight million
dollars. And so you're seeing inthese kind of trickle out right now and
it almost looked like it was puton hold from the weekend and then boom,
(04:05):
it feels like it's kind of startedback up again. So yeah,
and then also with President Biden yesterday, he was speaking and talking about how
basically Kamalo would be you know, fine or great as president. I'm paraphrasing.
I don't remember exactly what he wassaying. But you know, it
almost feels like it's it's almost likesetting up or or something along those lines.
(04:28):
Were you surprised when you saw AdamSchiff like publicly say this, come
out and say this earlier today? You know, I was, and I
and I and I have to say, you know, my background isn't in
politics, and I feel like that'sa good thing in this moment a little
bit because I grew up in California. Actually part of my mom anyways lived
in and so in Adam Schiff's district. And so there is I'm coming at
(04:54):
it from that sense where here's amember of Congress, and as you know,
ited there have been other members ofCongress who have spoken out against the
president's reelection, right, but AdamSchiff feels very significant. He's someone who's
been in the House of Representatives fortwenty three years. He's been a long
time supporter of President Biden, aVice President Biden, of Senator Biden.
(05:17):
He certainly is very close with NancyPelosi and led the impeachment inquiry, the
first one against president former President Trump. And so this is someone who's very
calculated, you know, as Inoted, has a ton of experience and
still has a ton of ambition withinthe party as he's running for Senate right
now. So the fact that he'sspeaking out is in itself significant, and
(05:42):
the fact, in my opinion anyways, that he's seeking out now three weeks
after the debate is also very significantbecause this isn't a knee jerk reaction,
and it's very consistent in that sensewith Adam Schiff, who's someone who comes
off very calculated and very measured. You have to think that this is part
of a very significant strategy. Yeah, this is interesting, to say the
least. We'll follow this and obviouslybig news happening today. If this ends
(06:05):
up happening, will I don't know. I don't even know how to feel
about it. It's just like onekind of left turn after another. It's
like whoa, It's just kind ofcomes out of nowhere. CHRISTIANKRNERO, ABC
News out of Washington. Appreciate youso much, thanks for joining us.
Thank you, all right, We'llsee you see you. Yeah, don't.
(06:25):
I don't. I think it's probablyif it happens, then that's it,
right, it's over. He willbe the nominee. There's no going
back, right, I mean,if they do the role call, if
they do the virtual roll call,Yep, that's it, right, Yep,
that's what happened. That's what wasthe very first thing they did on
day one of the GOP Convention, right role call, and their very first
(06:48):
action was basically confirming that Trump's thenominee. Right, and so if they
do this and he's locked in,I mean, that's it. There's no
going back. And I think Ithink they're gonna I think they're gonna go
with him. I think they're goingto do I think he's so bad.
(07:10):
I don't think anybody wants to tryto pick up the pieces of what he's
left. If you understand what I'msaying, I think they feel like the
work will be too hard, right, absolutely, all right,
