Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, I will say this about the Jackets last night
in Nashville versus the Predators. Matthew Olivier's goal which was
taken off the board for you know, goalie interference was crap,
and you even if you're looking around on social media,
there are even people in the Nashville area that were going, wow,
we'll take it.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
But oo, man, the Jackets got robbed there.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
So I got I'm right away and look, I understand
we lost, but by one goal, and so I right
away started thinking, are we seriously gonna.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Do this already?

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Really we're getting screwed already as the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
So we'll see.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Hopefully there's the one time they got us and then
that's it for the rest of the year. Hopefully it
doesn't get any worse than that. And he's part of
our best Buckeye coverage. Jeff Logan is joining us now,
and LOGI I don't know if you, I know you
were on air last night when the game started, but
that was one thing immediately I go, all right.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Don't start this already with the Jackets.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
As far as that go, Hey, I understand, and I
read some of the details on that and the only
thing I gotta say is they've only won nine times
in that building, sit in the last twenty five years.
What did you expect was going to happen?

Speaker 1 (01:13):
They came out though, Man, listen, Jeff, they came out
like their helmets were on fire.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
I mean, it was unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
I went, is this the same Jackets? It's almost like
they picked up right where they left off. As you
know at the end of the season. They were on
fire last year and they only needed just to scoach
a little bit of help, which I don't think they're
going to end up needing that help this year based
on that stat because you well, of course you're going
to have that stat. But based on I think you
throw all of that out, this Jackets team is going

(01:42):
to be different.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Do I sound like a Browns fan? I kind of do.
I just realized as I was saying.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
It, Yeah, I think you need some help.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
There's no question that I need help. There's definitely no
question about that. I will not argue with you on
the fact that I need help. There's no question. Hey,
how about this extent did golf playing weather that we're
getting in Central Ohio? I mean, let's face it, over
the last what has it been, roughly six weeks, maybe
five weeks. You might have had a total of four

(02:12):
or so days where it might have been a little
challenging to get out and play any golf. Other than that,
it's been like every day. Tell me you've been taking
advantage of it.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
I've been doing my best, trying to stay after it.
Played in a little event on Wednesday out of Columbus
Country Club. Was a lot of fun. And I'm just
you know, I'm counting the days. It's just so nice
to be able to play fall golf before the leaves
come down and laser. I'm sure you know that you
get better at all than you do during the regular

(02:41):
season because you're able to invoke the leaf rule anytime
you want to, and that eliminates ever having to have
a lost ball.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Right, Okay, I'll go with you on that. The leaf rule.
I like, let me put that in my notes, So
I gotta put that in.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
My anytime you hit it somewhere where you can't find it,
you say, it's under a leaf somewhere, so you can
drop it and keep playing it.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
No penalty, no penalty, no penalty.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
You realize helping him with new and more creative ways
to cheat is not helping society.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Right, I understand. Have you ever invoked the leaf rule? Jeff,
You don't cross me as somebody who would do that.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Well. With the knuckleheads that I play with, they all
use the leaf rule, So I use it as strictly
as a defensive measure.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
They use it in the summer, and you're like, hang
on a second, there's no leaves on the ground, Like,
what are we talking about?

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Leaf rule? What is that? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (03:34):
I got some guy that thinks there's a sprinkler head
in his way on every shot. I mean he's always
moving his ball and get a better lie, and said, yeah,
I got a sprinkler head here, I gotta movement.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Just trying to improve that lie. I think, I don't know,
maybe once or twice. We've all been there as far
as you know, looking at it. But that's a gentleman's game.
As they say, your thoughts on the Ryder Cup, I know,
I know that was a little bit ago, but I
know you have some thoughts on that. I mean, we
got curb stomped the first two days and then we
almost ended up battling back in singles on Sunday, which

(04:10):
clearly ended up falling short. I think you and I
had a quick chat about it. What they would have
had to have won, like every match on Sunday. That's
asking a lot, you know.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah, they've done two deep a hole for themselves, and
you know, I was really disappointed with not only the
play of the Americans, but the actions of our American
fan base there. I just thought it was inappropriate for
the game of golf. I just you know, and I
understand the Ryder Cup inspired up and there's a level
of that that you should expect, but I thought it

(04:41):
was way over the top. And I hope they haven't
ruined the Ryder Cup for the future. I really do.
I just think that's such a terrific event and look
forward to it every couple of years, and I just
hope that happened this time with the fan base out
there didn't ruin the game.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Well, I'll tell you, I don't. I don't believe it, did,
you know. We watched what they're saying afterwards and so on.
They'll get us back in twenty seven. We're gonna be
in Rory's homeland. We'll be in Ireland there, and I'm
sure they'll get us back. Look, you're on Long Island,
it's New Yorkers.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
They're drinking.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
I'm not giving them a pass to be you know,
I saw I think it was Rory's wife who got
hit with somebody threw a drink or something.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Went okay, Now that's over the top.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
As far as people yelling F bombs and saying stuff
to them, that's just part. Yeah, I guess it's and
look pun intended part for the course. In a situation
like that, would I yell that stuff? No, I don't
think so, not unless one of them started dawing to me.
But as far as that goes, I mean, you're gonna
have the chirping, You're gonna have people saying stuff, throwing stuff.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
That's another thing that's that's not acceptable.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
I agree. I just think you know, there's a there's
a level of acceptance there, and I just think it
got over it got overboard.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Yeah, yeah, for sure.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
All right, How impressive were you, I mean, how impressed
were you rather as the Buckeyes.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Minnesota last week?

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Now, I know we're going all the way to back
back to last week, but holding Minnesota to a field
goal our defense is incredibly stingy we're seeing it week
after week.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
I hope it keeps up. But your thoughts on that game, Logie, Well.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
I'll tell you, I just thrilled with the way Ohio
State after that first drive that Minnesota had, you know,
right down the field. They completed seven out of seven passes,
but they didn't get it into the end zone, and
that's all that matters. And then the adjustments started being made.
And the thing that's happening, Blazer, with adjustments now in
college football is that you get immediate feedback. Because the

(06:39):
players have iPads on the sidelines, they're getting the immediate
replay from the from television, they're getting the immediate replay
from the coaches video and they can correct things on
the fly as opposed to doing it in the locker
room at halftime or using still images like they used
to do three four years ago. So if you got

(07:01):
all the brains on the sidelines but you can't communicate it, it's
one thing. But getting these guys all on the same
page and making the adjustments in total shutdown of Minnesota
after that first drive. This defense to the first five
games has been nothing but spectacular.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
I mean, when have you seen a defense this good
in Ohio State defense.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
I mean, think back.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
I mean, it's tough to think about a very consistent
team like you mentioned, in all five games. Matt Patricia,
he's gotta be I would say, I mean, what he
brings to this program has to be a difference maker,
wouldn't you say?

Speaker 3 (07:39):
LOGI, Oh, no doubt about it. And that on the
heels of a defense last year that won the national
championship as part of the Ohio State football team, and
everybody was applauding Jim Knowles, who was a defensive coordinator then,
and he did a terrific job while he was here.
But we've taken it to a new level. We've taken
it to something very special. And we were talking about

(08:02):
this on bucks Line last night that Matt Patricia, who
has spent his entire career basically in the National Football League,
he doesn't get what college is all about. He doesn't
understand what these kids are. But he's having a blast.
I mean. And the other thing is is that he
gets their attention immediately because he literally has Super Bowl

(08:24):
rings that are falling out of his pocket. Yeah, and
so the football team can look at him and go,
I don't care what you tell me, I'm buying in.
I'm believing and I'm going to do it. And that's
exactly what you're seeing on the field.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Absolutely, that's what we're seeing week after week, and I
expect we'll see that tomorrow. Buckeyes are fourteen and a
half point favorites. It's a big noon kickoff on Fox.
Fifty and a half is the over under as the
Buckeyes are in Champagne Illinois to battle the fighting a
line and so your thoughts as the Buckeyes go in tomorrow,
hopefully a little quicker start with Illinois tomorrow then we

(09:01):
did versus you know, the last couple of opponents.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
Yeah, I would agree with that. I think Ohio State
does need to start faster. They need to finish that
first drive. And that first drive. What I mean by
that is whether we're on offense or defense, the success
factor on winning that first drive is three and out.
If Illinois takes the ball on the kickoff or if
it's our drive, we need to take the ball into

(09:26):
the end zone on that first drive. Those are the
two things that have to happen in this game. Don't
allow them to get any momentum, either offensively or defensively
and give that crowd nothing to cheer about.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
Yeah, I'm just I'm sitting here wondering about Matt Patrisia
quite honestly, because you know, but people do what works.
The saying has always been defense wins football games. I'm
wondering about the escalating stock value of NFL defensive coordinators
right now because the standard he is setting at Ohio State.
I have a feeling that's good. A lot of collegiate
teams that can afford it are going to start looking

(09:58):
toward the NFL and trying to recruit down well and
get some of those.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
I would say, also, LOGI to kind of piggyback onto
what you know Chuck's saying there, all defensive coordinators in
the NFL are not created equal. Patricia is a very
special DNA. I mean, he worked with Belichick, he worked
with that organization, and I get it. What we're seeing
with Belichick right now is like what you know, but
you know that that whole thing, that's a whole separate.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
College check don't care about nothing but honey.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
Well, I mean, yeah, his twenty year old girlfriend or
whatever she is. But I'm just saying, like, with the
defensive coordinators in the NFL. I mean, Matt is a
he's a special guy. But that's an interesting take though, Chuck,
no question, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
Chuck, I would I would say you're you're spot on
with this analysis. And the reason I say that is
because the college football game, at least at the Ohio
state level, miticking what's going on at the NFL level.
Ryan Day has a very advanced, very intricate offensive scheme
that he has developed and that's all type play calling,

(11:02):
an NFL type execution, and that's exactly what's happening on
the defensive side as well. And you got eighteen, nineteen
twenty year old quarterbacks that are trying to figure this
thing out when it takes a veteran in the NFL
to be able to solve some of these defenses. So
so far, so good, and I think defense is really
a strength of this football team.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
Hey, so, how do you like that we reloaded after
Will Howard? I mean, is Julian saying, is he is
he in your mind doing what he needs to do?
Which is I mean we're not seeing like I mean,
we're certainly seeing flashes of brilliance with him or whatever,
but what we're not seeing is a breakdown or a
collapse or a panic type thing, and that feels like, man,

(11:46):
that's got to be a product somewhat of coaching, the
coaching staff, and then you know that creates that breeds that,
you know, the confidence that they need to not panic
and so on.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
But I couldn't.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
I am delighted at us reloading right now. I mean,
we lost some incredible talent to the NFL, and it
looks like we are still right there.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
LOGI.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
I mean, especially when you give you know, Texas losing,
Penn State losing, We're looking more and more dominant each week.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Yeah, you got to feel really good about the situation
Ohio States in and the fact that they've been able
to bring this guy along, Julian saying slowly through the
first five weeks of the season and really unleash him
last week with some long balls that he was absolutely
perfect on. I just think the upside of this young
man is really really good. You know, you look at

(12:35):
and he looks like he's about twelve years old, but
he's got the poise of an absolute veteran. And what's
really I think kind of important is the team seems
to risk as well, so that's all that really matters.
Raking and Ryan Day are on the same page. Brian Hartline,
he is doing a terrific job in play calling, being

(12:56):
very unselfish up there, making sure that they take what
the defense gives. And Julian Saan so far has been
nothing but spectacular.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Do you like the fourteen and a half?

Speaker 1 (13:06):
You like the Buckeyes to cover there with in Champagne tomorrow?

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (13:10):
I can see it going both ways, but be perfectly
honest with you, this machine is just too strong. We
are too good. The talent gap is too strong. They'll
hang in there for a little bit, but Buckeyes will
have no trouble covering that spread.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:26):
I think they got it easily, easily fourteen and a half.
I don't know. They don't really need to score more
than three touchdowns because I think this defense is just
ridiculously phenomenal and they'll shut down Illinois. They won't know
what hit them.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
Yeah. Nobody has double digits against Ohio State yet the
entire season through the first five games. Texas in Week
one had seven, then shut out and nine and six
and three. I like that trend to continue. We'll keep
them under ten points. But the Buckeyes will score in
the thirties.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Yeah, that's incredible.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
When our opponents get in our red they get in
the red zone, you know, if they do when they
get there, it's the stingiest of stingy.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
I am going to be a good thing.

Speaker 4 (14:06):
You were happy you got in the red zone against
the buck Eyes. You're like, oh, hell.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
Yeah, I mean you're right, because it is the stingiest
of stingy right now. When they get into the red zone,
it's almost like it's like we get It's like we
get better the more pressure that is involved in something
like that. And again we witnessed it with a pretty
good Minnesota team and a five and one Illinois team.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
We'll see how that goes tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
So you guys are on the air early tomorrow at
nine am, correct for the best buck Eye.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Coverage that is correct. We will be on at nine
and right up until kickoff, and then we will be
back on the air for a little bit in postgame.
So when that game's all over and done with, if
you want the analysis to make sure you dial into
six n WTV.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
All right, very good. He's part of our best Buckeye coverage.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
The one and only Jeff Logan LOGI thank you so
much for jumping on with us today. Have a fantastic weekend,
all right, and you absolutely thank you, brother. I appreciate
that
