Speaker 1 (00:00):
He represents the twelve congressional district here in Ohio. Congressman
Troy Balderson joining me again in studio. Thanks for coming in, brother.
I'm uh, I love the longer hair. I'm just gonna
say it. I'm not kidding.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Hey, I love the long hair look too, but it's
it's not.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Going to fly.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
So listen, if fatter man can wear sweats into the okay, sorry,
I don't want to Wallah, I know, I know, but anyway, no,
so it's not gonna fly or for you you're just
is there is there a thing with.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
That where they're like, yeah, you got Oh I didn't.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
I wouldn't say, you know, you can sweats.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
End of the chamber. We can run our hair as
long as well. Warren Davidson sporting it too. Warren a
member of Congress down Southwest, so he's he's sporting as
he calls in the golden locks.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
A little longer, a little longer.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Well, there's nothing wrong with that, no, not at all.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Hey, Look, I'm I'm of the ilk. If you've got
the hair, grow it, because I don't.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
I haven't had it for a long time. And as
you know, wants a fun a time I had a
lot of it.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
As you did, and I had it was long really
all you were proudly yes I did, Yes, I did.
So now that it started falling out, I'm like, oh, well,
I'm just gonna play the hand.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
God, don't you know what the said?
Speaker 2 (01:13):
I mean, the gray I was, I was in. The
gray is.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
Really coming out that that's the shocking part.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
But yeah, by and large's not really. I mean it's
still dark.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
It's it's it's tough.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
There's no product, there's nothing here. So I get questioned
about that a lot. What product are you use?
Speaker 1 (01:30):
You're like nothing, Like people think you're coloring it or yeah,
coloring it.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
You're like, loreal, it's what. No, I'm not doing that.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Like wh when do we have grown?
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Brill cream? Oh yeah, yeah, that was the ticket.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
So that's what I when I used to wear mine
long and I would pull it back. I used to
use brial cream. Like literally, I used brill cream. I
was part of helping them make money for several years.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
And they made a lot of money for several years.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Well, I think Stephen Segall was using that back when
he had real hair and it was long and all.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
And that's where I got the idea. I was like,
I'm gonna I'm gonna do that.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
That's great idea because it helps slick it down because
mine was naturally curly, not really fro, but curly to
where it wouldn't like when I would pull it back,
it would still kind of be wavy, and I'd be like, like,
slick it down.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
And you know all of that. How you doing?
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Man?
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Everything?
Speaker 2 (02:20):
I'm great. Had a great August.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
We were out in the district, twelve counties, hit them
all hard, went to a lot of fairs. Got the
tomorrow we have the Morgan County fair make a stop
down there, and then the Perry County Gun Bash. For
your listeners that have not attended that, I highly encourage
that you head down to the Perry County Fairgrounds.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
What's the gun Bash?
Speaker 2 (02:43):
It is a gun raffle.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
They've got every lawnmowers too, everything down there.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
I mean it is huge.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
I mean thousands of people show up for this event,
a lot of fun, well organized. So I mean, Jade
Eve's been there. Bernie came last year when we were
all down there. So Marino, yeah, Marinosers not Sanders, Bernie Marino,
our good friend Bernie Marine.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Sanders would have got thrown out on his ear.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Yeah, But when JD came down, he was running for
the us N set down. It's in Perry County and look,
it's just it's American at its best and a lot
of good times. They got big screen TVs going with
the Buckeye game on the afternoon, so lots of fun.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Speaking of speaking to JD Vice President, I wonder if he,
like is past the point or still waking up pinching
himself going here, I am this guy a few years
ago who was just hanging out in Ohio, in Middletown,
in down near Cincinnati, and here I am this marquee
(03:48):
person second in command of the United States and looks
like he.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
He could be headed for first in command at some point.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Oh yeah, he's definitely, I mean he's I.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Wonder if he's doing that.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
I would I would have asked him that if if
he would have somehow said hi to me when in
Las Vegas when he was out on.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
The golf course.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
He's out there, but he's surrounded by Secret Service and
I wasn't getting anywhere in there that.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Yeah, and he's never seen.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Me before, even though he's been on well, I don't
know if he's seen me on socials or what have you,
but I have never met him in person. And as
you know, I helped get him elected senator. So I
was like, so, you know, he'd been on the show
fifteen twenty times whatever.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
It was, every bit of that you had him on
all the time. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
So I was like, you know, telling the Secret Service
that we're searching us Tom Blazers here. Man, I just
want to say hi to him from Ohio Blazer from
Ohio six ten. And uh no, yeah, that didn't work out,
but I was I would have. That would have been
one of things. He's like, dude, like how much do
you like? Wake up and go, man, I can't believe
this to your wife?
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Can you believe it? You know kind of thing.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
So anyway, I just think he's like me, he's pinching himself.
I still pinch myself.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
You talk about that, You've told me about it.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
And it's just and every time you walk around and
you walk up to the Capitol and you walk underneath
the tunnels, and you know, you greet constituents that come
there that are there for flying days, and just you
pinch yourself and you just say, like, man, oh, man, here,
I am a kid from Skingham County and I'm here
(05:17):
so very grateful and blessed be.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Able to do it.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Yeah, I'm one of one of the four hundred and
thirty five that thirty five you conclude centers that helped
shape this country. I mean, it's it's incredible. I'll never forget.
We were in your office and you're like, you know,
running on the mall in the morning and running towards
the Capitol and you see that and it's dark out
still and you're out running because that you're a runner.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
And you're like, I still pinch myself place, like I
can't believe it. Yeah, that's great. See that.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
That's the charm, man, that's the allure like this with you.
So it's fantastic, man, fantastic. Did you hear that, by
the way, Zach attack They they you said it was
in Perry County.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Where County gun bash.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Yeah, yeah, but.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Did you hear they got lawnmowers and stuff that you
could have had a booth there for, you know, maybe
doing some of your they're.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
All sold out. I had to get one, they said.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Did you try?
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Didn't try to get it?
Speaker 1 (06:13):
I always give him the business because he talks about
how he has a lawnmower repair business and it's been
something that it's kind of been a running kind of gag.
He started that a while ago, and he'll he still
won't let on like if I'm like, yeah you can,
you can be on it.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
And there it is.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
And so that's when you mentioned the lawmar thing. I go, man,
you could have had.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
A booth there.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yeah, I know some of the people that were down there.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
I didn't.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
I didn't apply early enough to get my own.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
You should have reached out to me. We we we
we know people down there in Perry County.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
So I'll take your advice next.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Well, and as they say, the early bird gets the worm,
and you got to get earlier next year's fair enough.
That's the way.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Well, I encourage all.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
I mean, it is truly, it's a grand event and
it it's just good fun.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
It's really good fun.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Yeah, that's cool, man.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
We had a quick kind of before we were going
on talking about Ohio State and you know the fact
that you know, Grambling State's getting a million bucks tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Ohio State's pay that's all. You know, that's a And
then I think it was one point nine.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
They're paying to Ohio University, which will be a little
bit later in the season, and uh, you know, almost
three million dollars paying But that's that's normal. You know,
colleges do that, and it's basically, here's a million dollars
for letting us beat up on you. But you know,
tomorrow the games at three point thirty in the shoe.
Looks like the weather's going to cooperate or whatever. But
I know you're a Buckeyes fan. And did you watch
(07:43):
Texas last I mean yes, yeah, do you have any thought?
Speaker 4 (07:46):
I mean the defense I was going away by the crazies,
right and I love you know how they were showing
in the following day on Sunday. It was fun to
watch some of the schemes that he put up, the
defensive coordinator put up, uh confused Manning.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
So I just that was masterful.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
I well, you got in Matt Patricia, you got somebody
who you know was with the Patriots and this is
this guy's real.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
First you'll come in here, right. Well, I don't know
what was the deal with that. I didn't it just
get all that.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
Well, the former defensive coordinator, you know, left went to
uh what state?
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Penn State? Yeah, and I you know, it was like
what what was that all about?
Speaker 1 (08:24):
What was his reasoning is like millions of reasons or whatever,
you know, like it was one of those.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Kind of tongue in cheek things. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
As far as controversy, I'm not sure about that. And
maybe there was, but uh, this Patricia is the real
deal man.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
I mean, had three or four Super Bowl ranks.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Yeah, I mean you his his DNA runs deep. He
knows exactly how to scheme and so we got a
full front row seat for and it's only going to
get better.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Bat that whole defensive backfield.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Now.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
I also represent the Athens so Hi University is on
my list too, So yeah, we'll be watching for that
game in a couple of weeks. When OU comes up
to the Buckeyes and they play in the Horseshoes, so
they're really excited. Oh, you plays West Virginia tomorrow and
it's just sold out game for them. So it's a
big day for the you bobcatch tomorrow. So we're excited
(09:16):
for them and the West Virginia Mountaineers coming over to
play them, so that'd be fun. They haven't played each
other since nineteen forty nine. No kidding in West Virginia
one or excuse me, oh my goodness, don't the Bobcats one.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Bobcats one. Yeah, this isn't a podcast. I can't edit
that up.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Yeah, I know. Sorry, I'm sorry, Bobcats. We got it.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
It's okay.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
One.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Look, bottom line is you know ou one and you
got it right. But the other part is, I think
any anybody listening, anybody that lives here in Ohio, we're
all going to root for Ohio teams.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Yeah, unless you're Steeler Bowling green. Now, I mean that's fantastic.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yes, I was gonna say unless you're a Steeler fan,
and then we're talking NFL, and then I'm not really
rooting for Ohio teams. But that's a whole separate conversation.
Where As college goes, yes, I'm rooting for Ohio University
tomorrow and hopefully they pull off the victory. And of
course the Buckeyes again, it's at three point thirty in
the shoe, Grambling State coming in and their college is
(10:12):
rich in history and so on. Obviously on a smaller scale,
but this will be this will be a good, nice
and the question I saw.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
One of the headlines was will Ohio.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
State football open the playbook for Julian saying they're our
quarterback after passing his first test, And I say, yes,
they're probably. I don't know that they're going to one
thousand percent really open it up and let him loose tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
But we're going to.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
See probably a lot more down the field shots and
so on tomorrow, and hopefully it.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Doesn't bite us.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
But you got a guy who he really managed the
game well last week. We know that he didn't lose
it for us, which is one thing that that's a
huge positive, especially against a really good Longhorns team.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
And the fact that we went number one.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Now we already have Cross Arizonas I was talking to
part of our Best Buckeye coverage earlier in the week
and I said, we all Ohio State. Everyone brings their
best game when they play Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Absolutely already with the Cross Arizona.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
And now that we're number one, really going to have
extra So everybody's going to be playing their hearts out
every week when they played the Bible.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
Well, I'm excited about saying and see what he does
tomorrow because you know that Ryan Day would definitely have
a different game plan for him and might let him.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Loosen up a little bit.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
I hope, I hope, I hope so too.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
And then I really think it's going to be something
to witness the spectacle with regard to our defense, because
you're right, you pointed out how good they look, and
a lot of people were even saying that was really
kind of the talk this week was how good the
defense for the Buckeyes did look, and they looked they
looked mid season fom already. Yeah, and it's the first
(11:47):
game against a very good opponent.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
So right, one of the best of play other than
Penn State.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Yeah, And as far as ranking goes and so on,
we'll see how the rest of the season shakes out.
But nobody the beautiful thing about all this, Troy, and
I think you would agree with me that the first
twelve team playoff in collegiate football history, the Buck guys
ended up winning the national championship and running through that
(12:13):
starting in Tennessee with the volunteers and coming off of
that Michigan loss still stung, but guess what, we ended
up National champs And in Will Howard, he's with my
Steelers now, I'm so happy. But what we witnessed from
our Buckeyes, you know, you hope that they've got just
sixty seventy percent of that, maybe fifty percent of that
at least getting underway here and can we do it again.
(12:35):
It's really really, really, really special what they pulled off
last year.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
It was sure fun to watch, and that Texas game
was even I mean, we'll never forget that. Yeah, yeah,
you know, everyone talks about the game when Trussell won
the national championship against Miami and Maurice and everything that happened,
you know during that game.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Very special about it as a special tists.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Yeah, yeah, for sure, fun
