Speaker 1 (00:00):
I gotta I gotta see what the Nike dunks, gotta
see what this is all about.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Just like any other tennis shoe. I mean, I don't
know get the whole thing. I really do not get
the whole thing.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Oh no, those are sharp, man, Wow, those are what
the kids want right now, get on out.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Apparently they were girls shoes last year when I wanted
to get some for one of the boys, and the
older boys said, oh girls, Well, now this season they've
got They've got the boy's version. And I really can't
tell the difference, but yeah, that's what he wanted.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Man. Look at those, dude, those are sharp. Yeah, the
Nike dunks.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
He was just telling me that your grandson, right, yeah,
wanted to you know, get these for Well.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
First of all, I love.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
This kind of news, dude, seriously, because anytime we're so
used to in what we do right now as far
as existing, we're so used to the absence of any
kind of what would you call that.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Service, customers customer service. Yeah, yeah, I was really impressed,
and I was not only impressed, but surprised by where
I found it, because you don't from what we're shown
and told every day, you don't expect it there and
I was, yeah, very very surprised and very happy.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
So you want to get exact or no, I don't
care absolutely, I see. I like to actually stroke businesses
when they do something like this, especially when you know, look,
this is just this is just us giving somebody a nod,
because Lord knows, we'll call you out if something dumb
happens while we're out and about, you know, depending, And
(01:42):
this was one of those stories you're telling. I'm going,
I'm like sitting here, going really wow. You went to
Northern Lights.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Northern Lights shopping center, you know, up on the northern
end of London, not far from where you and I
first met.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yep, and.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
He found them online. These are not the tennis shoes
are just ridiculous anymore. Two three hundred and four hundred
dollars and I'm like, no, we're not doing that. These
were reasonably priced and he wanted him found him online,
was able to order them for pickup at the Northern
Lights foot Lockers store. I'm okay, son, I'll go get him.
I went up there expecting, you know, to escape with
(02:20):
my shoes in my life basically, and one of the
two of those was probably up for grabs, and I
walked in that store and young people all through. I
think there might have been one white guy working in
the store. Everyone else was young black people and they
were attentive. They were I got great customer service. I
(02:43):
walked in a door. Young lady on this side, looked
to me maybe nineteen twenty years old, welcomed me to
the store. Another one over here just said hello as
I was passing by, and then also gave me a
have a great day. On the way out. Got up
to the counter, told the guy my grandson ordered some
shoes and asked for his first name. I get he's
like ten and a half. I got him in the back,
hang on, went back, grabbed the shoes they're bagged, receded,
(03:06):
ready to walk out the door. The guy was just
right on top of everything. A great positive experience Footlocker
and Northern Lights. Congratulations, you impressed the crap out of
me today.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
I am.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
I am blown away at the story that there are
places still that are in our society that do this,
and I'm blown away that you experienced it, because look,
some if a lot of other people are experiencing that
kind of experience. They may or may not go to
take to social media. How many times have you been
(03:39):
at a restaurant? And I'm one of these people that
when I have a positive experience, I hunt down the
manager and I'll tell I'll say, can I talk to
your manager?
Speaker 3 (03:47):
They look at me like, oh boy, And then.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
The manager comes up and I'm like, hey, I just
wanted to tell you I had an amazing experience.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Blah blah blah blah.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Point being, there's so much of people not saying anything
when they go into a place and something like this happens,
they just continue on about their day. I like to
point it out because it's an anomaly quite frankly.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Right now.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
The neighborhood you don't expect it. The just the atmosphere
you don't expect it. And honestly, from a cultural perspective,
you don't expect it. Every time television flu you know,
news stories or whatever, and there's somebody black in the
city of Columbus, every time they pop on the screen,
I'm like, oh, please, please let them speak well, please please,
And more times and off than not, they do not,
(04:29):
And it disappoints these young people. Young people were all
friendly and articulate and attentive, and everything. Every parent would
want their kid to be at their first job, and
it just it made me proud, It really did.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
I'm blown away because I can't tell you how many
encounters I have where you walk in to fill in
the blank, whether it be a restaurant, whether it be
a business that is you know, like retail, and the
kids that are there greeting you, or the first experience
you have when you walk in they have this deer
in the headlight, look like I have to communicate and
(05:06):
it doesn't involve my phone. I'm serious. It's like it's
so I'm just worn out with that. And Josephine is
so not like that. She is so talkative. And I'm
still working with Stone because sometimes, you know, I can
barely get a grunt out of him when I'm asking
him something.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
I'm like, hey, I'm like, talk to me, you know,
kind of a thing I am. I'm working with.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
My dad, believe it or not, considering what I'm doing
with you right now. My dad had to do that
with me. He took me in the garage for a
private little father son talk. On my paper route, customers
were complaining I was unfriendly, and he said, as long
as you walk up and down this street and you
are Charlie's son, you will be friendly and you will
speak to people. Do you understand this?
Speaker 1 (05:50):
It What it does is it takes it takes any
kind of tenseness or anxiety into it brings it down immediately.
If any kind of a barrier had begun to be
built just on someone staring at you before they engage you.
When you do something like that, it takes that down.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Low and a smile opens so many doors.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
It really does.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
And that's I love to hear these kind of stories.
And that's why I was like, you know what, I
think it's important that we give them a shout out
and we thank them for doing that, because especially when
you went in with your expectations lower than low, and
you're like huh, and then it's just like what is happening?
Speaker 2 (06:30):
That's when the shopping center actually there's a lot of
construction Cleveland Avenue. They're doing a lot of landscaping and
adding street islands and so forth, and the whole shopping
center surprised me. It looks nice. It reminds me a
lot of Great Western overall, my beloved West Side. As
far as the structural part, goes. But the stores, you know,
clean swept in front of, no trash all over the place.
(06:54):
It's a well kept, friendly, welcoming shopping center. I'm I'm
not beyond saying, yeah, I'll probably go there instead of
going to some other places, because I know they've got
a store there. I might just go up there just
for the pleasure of going to the store.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Why not do that until?
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Because I got to say before obviously today it sounds
like you were like, I don't really considered any any
of the retail over in that area.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Well, why not do that until? And maybe they never
will give you a reason to go anywhere? Yeah, so
why not just you go? Okay? I mean, is that
closer to you technically, No.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
It's not.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
It's it's a little bit of a way.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Yes. Remember it's right right where Earl's place was.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Oh yeah, I remember.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
I remember that sure man sitting out on that front
porch and watching what was going on at the gas
station across the street and so forth. It was not
the most welcoming, friendly place. It was a it was
a an environment that advised caution, and uh, it just
it felt a lot different up there today. So congratulations
to that whole community. You're doing well.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
That's really good, really cool to hear that your Bengals
made a statement last night.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Yes, they did, stumbled a couple of times. Defense has
a couple of issues. The man. When it came that
second half, they really fired it up. It was beautiful.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Let's not forget about the first half, in the last
couple of minutes where it was just like, oh my goodness,
you want to talk about taking advance.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
See, that's what this game is about.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
That's what the National Football League and look, you can
go on and run your mouth about well it's preseason. Okay, fine,
Because I think the Commanders are going to be They're
going to be in the.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
Mix this year. I do.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
I feel like they've got the talent. You guys clearly
are as well. But with Joe Burrow playing, what is
that that's sending a statement that he played all the
way to almost the end of the second quarter.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
And so good on the Bengals for doing this and
kind of almost getting everybody up to speed, if you will,
before the first game. I do like the approach here.
I think it's going to serve you well. If everybody,
if you don't have any dumb injuries that happened between
now and you know whatever. Then I think it's going
to serve you guys well to kind of get a
little bit of a head start there.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
I think that's kind of what Joe was saying. He
probably told the coaches, you're leaving me in. That was
his way say, and I ain't scared's let's do this.
I don't care if it's preseason. I'm going to show
you what we are. And I love that attitude out
of you. Yeah, he's not obnoxiously aggressive, but he is very,
very focused on being what he is.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
You guys made a statement, man, You guys made a
statement that last night was pretty impressive to watch that.
I didn't get to watch the Reds until well, they're
in Los Angeles, so it's West Coast. Was roughly the
first pitch, but they scored right away top of the
first you know, they end up, you know, getting two
(09:42):
runs on the board and then ended up four to
one final.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
I didn't end up getting to the end of the game.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
But our Reds are starting off at this long road
series in a good way, so we'll see if they
can hold on to that too. But I don't have
any quote unquote highlights, if you will, But it just
looked like they settled down on a little bit and
coming off of that walk off win versus the Brewers
in Cincinnati. And also we're having the conversation Stone and
(10:07):
I talked briefly about it.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
I go, I got think about this man. You see
them on TV.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
He's like, yeah, I go, you know, yesterday at this
time they're boarding a plane or maybe they were already
in the air, but we watched them win in Cincinnati,
and they go right out there and look at them.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
They're they're doing what they're doing, even.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
Though I said, you know, their bodies right now they
think it's nine to forty five, you know, I mean,
they're not.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
They haven't adjusted to that yet.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
They're look good on them this time of year or two.
This is like remembering Ghostbusters when he's never ever crossed
the streams. This is a crossing the streams part of
the year for me because here come the Rids mathematically
still in everything. Oh yeah, playing well, looking positive. But
I'm also breathing football, yep. And that's that's hard to
mesh those two. For Secon and if we're going to
(10:53):
add hockey, I know as soon as you get to
the point where, okay, I got this down to a science,
then the blue Jackets are taking off before you know what,
the NBA is starting. Really, man, this is this is
a clash of way too many streams at once. This
time of year.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
You don't really watch the NBA, do You can't stand it.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
I just can't get away from the arrogance of the
NBA is just too much for me.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
I got nothing for that. I don't I don't watch
a lick of that.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Ever, this weekend, Channel ten had w NBA games on
both Channel ten point one and ten point two, which
is typically my me TV, so even me TV had
had how dare the NBA? I was waiting on the
dang long lone Ranger, man, and uh and I've got
w NBA instead, And I just it was really freaky
(11:39):
to see. I get. I don't know if there's a
demand for it, if they're going to create demand by
having it on both.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Toys fly on the Road.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
I did not. I did see a photo of Lebron
James at one point close enough. Yeah, I mean, it's
pretty much the same thing.
