(00:00):
Thirteen conservative US federal judges is notgoing to hire law students or undergraduates from
Columbia University in response to its handlingof these demonstrations, these protests, lawlessness
we've been witnessing lately. They allappointees. By the way, as you
can imagine of President Donald Trump calledthe Manhattan campus an incubator of bigotry.
(00:26):
It was what they labeled it.I love this. Dave Portnoy, the
founder and owner of Barstool Sports,he is refusing to hire anybody from Harvard,
anybody from Mit, anybody from andI forget what the other one was.
But because of the way those collegepresidents refused to denounce anti Semitism,
(00:49):
it was amazing and do more andmore law firms all over the country are
like no. There are hedge fundmanagers that are like, no, I'm
not hiring anybody the I think that'sa good thing. That's that's a nice
sign that people aren't gonna put upwith this bs anymore. I wondered if
we were gonna get to this point, as you're what, because when this
(01:11):
first of all started, I thinkthe reason it may have taken a little
bit a couple of minutes, asthey call it, a few minutes,
a few days, weeks, whathave you for people to finally start this
kind of the thing was. Ithink a lot of people are like,
Okay, this is a small likeisolated, and it's like wait a minute.
Uh. And then it's another campus, and it's another campus, and
then it's really taken hold and we'rewatching it unfortunately in our own congress.
(01:34):
For the love of God, we'rewatching this play out. And now I
think people are like, okay,we got to step up here and guess
what. Nothing speaks louder than thewallet, right. I mean you you
literally have a Hamas supporting terrorist, sympathizing members of Congress of leon Omar Rashid
t Leeb. I mean, thesepeople are open supporters of Hamas has blood
(01:57):
terrorism. It's absolutely discussed, evenfilth what they're spreading, you know,
And all of that happened back inOctober. They I remember walking down it
was one of those two you justnamed. They were like, you know,
do you you got to denounce this? Say that. They would not
say that they were denouncing this, those atrocities that we were witnessing all over
the internet, they would not denounceany of that, and all they tried
(02:21):
to do was make it like itwas a work of some sort or AI
generated or it was always something otherthan they need to go. This is
absolutely awful and should not be happeningto anybody because if you denounced it,
that would be going against who theyreally are, and we know who they
really are inside their anti Semitic terroristsympathizers. So he's a new All Thaty
(02:42):
resident, Philip Darrow, and he'sa retired business owner. He was a
two term member of the New AlityPlaying Local Board of Education. He penned
an article that was in the Dispatchtoday and op ed, don't be fooled
Ohio State campus protests not about sufferingin Gaza. And he's joining us now,
Philip, how are you welcome tothe Mark Blazer Show. I'm doing
(03:04):
great. Thanks for having me on. Yeah, thank you very much for
jumping on with us today. Iappreciate this. First and foremost, my
first question, Philip was when Isaw this, I go, how did
this make it into the Dispatch?Your article? You're off ed because I
thought, man, given the leftagenda, it feels like I'm reading day
after day with the Dispatch and I'mkind of saying it tug and cheek,
but I think I don't know didyou think that as well, or what
(03:27):
was your thought on just that gettingit in there? Well, I certainly
wouldn't want to talk anty inside baseball, but I know the I know the
editor is he wants to have amore balanced paper and he's he's sticking to
his work. Well, that's good. There's clearly that that's fantastic, and
that's really the balance thing is iswhat we're all after. I mean,
(03:50):
on a side note, we're seeingwhat's going on with MPR right now.
Now. I know the Dispatch isn'tpublicly, it's not being funded with tax
dollars, but I mean it's asimilar type thing. I mean, people
are looking for a little more ofa balance right now, and we've gotten
anything but that over the last severalyears. It feels like, especially you
know, Josh and I day inday out, or are trying to vet
(04:11):
all kinds of different stuff that's goingon in the news, and it is
really tough to find anything that isnot slanted so badly that you have to
you know, then once you finda story, then you got to keep
digging. And it takes forever justto try to get you know, both
sides of something or something along thoselines. But this is a very really
amazing, really really good article andyou are spot on about this. Talk
(04:33):
a little bit about your op ed. Oh, it's hard to know exactly
where to start. You know.Over the last seven months since the October
seventh attacks, it's it's really beendisheartening at the same time eye opening and
to see the true colors of somany people. And I'll just generalize it
(04:58):
to the Western world. You know, I watched the brewing anti semitism coming
mostly from the left. I've sharedthis with my friends for the last several
years. You know, the theanti Semitism that we see on the right
is from a pretty small group ofof folks that are proud of it,
(05:19):
frankly, and they're they're public aboutit, and it's been that way for
decades. But the brewing anti semitismon the left is much more insidious and
and you know, I recognize itas a problem, and after October seventh,
it just came into full view andthere's there's just no escaping it anymore.
It's just there. And you know, I've watched the news reports and
(05:42):
and the reporting on on the onthe war in dream Gaza and Israel,
between Hamas and Israel, and itwas time to say something about it.
Hey, Philip, it's Josh, very nice pleasure to talk to you.
Here's my question, and where doyou think the brain poison if you will,
(06:03):
the mind virus? When you lookaround, where where is that coming
from? With these college students, these younger students, and if you look
a lot of them, most ofthem are predominantly they're they're white, suburban
kids who for whatever reason, thinkthey can identify with the Palestinians and Gaza.
(06:26):
But where where did this come from? Where where did we start poisoning
the minds of our youth to beeverything anti Israel, anti Semitic. As
a matter of fact, I hearthem calling the Jews Nazis, which is
the sickest irony of all ironies andin my opinion, morally grotesque. Where
is this poison coming from? That'san excellent question. Uh, you know,
(06:49):
I know we have limited time,so I'll try to summarize it as
best I can. But you know, it's in my view it stems from
the last several generations not having toworry about the price of peace and the
price of freedom. They're just they'reso removed from the reality that the world
(07:13):
is not all good and they've neverhad to pay the price. They've never
actually had to see what it coststo be free. And you know,
World War two is a long timeago. We're three generations passed, and
they just don't understand. So whenthey when they are being taught about anti
(07:34):
colonialism as though the Western world isfundamentally evil, they're buying it because they
don't they don't understand the reality thatthe Western world lifted billions of people out
of poverty through capitalism and democracy andeverything that it takes to actually make that
(07:58):
happen. And too many young peoplejust don't get. They just don't have
the perspective. And we used toteaching in school and we don't so much
anymore. Talking to Philip Darrow, who is New Albany resident, he's a
retired business owner, two time ortwo term member of the New Albany playing
local Board of Education. He uhguessed columnists and pendan op ed in the
(08:22):
Dispatch. In the Dispatch today, don't be fooled to Ohio State campus protests
not about suffering in Gaza. Youknow, Philip, I have a ten
year old son who he'll come down. He's getting ready and I'm kind of
getting ready for the day, andI'm going over the stuff that I'm you
know, looking at, thinking aboutwhat we're gonna do on the show,
and I'm kind of watching stuff onTV and so on. It has been
(08:43):
the hardest thing to try to explainthis to him, as he'll come in
and he's watching and he's like, why are they doing this? Dad,
Like, why are these why arethese people doing this? And it has
been it has been the most it'sbeen enlightening to me to try to explain
it to him. And he isgenuinely interested in this, which I feel
(09:03):
like is a good thing, especiallywhen he's ten years old or so on.
But he's watching these students and thenwe're seeing this how many different I
mean, we saw it again yesterdayat at George Washington University. I mean
we're seeing that where the police finallyare stepping in and and you know,
these students have this long I don'tknow several days. We saw it with
(09:24):
barriers, barricades. So on UCLA, this has to be so disheartening for
the average person who thought we wouldnever get to this point here in the
United States where we're seeing these thePalestinian flags flying and pulling down, you
know, the US flag, andit's it is backwards right now. And
(09:46):
this has to be for somebody,And I try to put myself in my
ten year old shoes. It hasto be so confusing for these kids,
especially on everything as well. Yeah, I hear you. You know,
I have a daughter's she's twenty fivenow, but you know I used to
have conversations with her all the timeabout things in the world. So I
think it's a great opportunity for youand for parents everywhere to have these conversations.
(10:09):
But you know, I'm a bitof a free speech absolutist, and
I'm glad that the protests are happeningbecause we get to actually see what our
fellow citizens think. And it hurts, but you have to know that it's
there in order to do something aboutit. And I think we're starting to
(10:30):
see a reasonable response. But youknow, to your point about the lawlessness,
you know, we saw that duringCOVID right, we saw that government
was willing to allow protests to occurand just not stop them. And you
know, at least Ohio State dida really good thing, right they allowed
(10:50):
the protests because protests is allowed, free speech is allowed. But once they
broke the law, they stopped andthey didn't allow them to set up camp.
They didn't. You know, theydid the right thing. Now we'll
get to see if that client willwill prosecute it for really, Hey,
Philip, I got another question,And in light of all these passions that
(11:11):
are going around are and I've seenthis before in the past, but I
would assume in the Jewish community protectionand security at synagogues and places of worship
and and Jewish organizations and gathering centers, I assume they are on high alert
to be on the lookout because itfeels like the way this thing is spiraling,
(11:37):
it's only a matter of time beforeit completely it leads the campuses and
the major cities and next thing youknow, you've got a group of people
harassing people trying to you know, trying to enjoy you know, their their
religious ceremony. Is that is thatsomething that is talked about right now?
(11:58):
I haven't spoken with anybody who hadthat concerned, but you know, the
high holidays come up in the fall, and uh, you know, every
time I would just synagogue the wealways had a police president presidence, particularly
during the high holidays, Yong KiPoor and Russia Shanna, So you know
that's that's a common thing. Butyou probably remember the uh, the attack,
(12:22):
you know, the murder spree atthe synagogue in Pennsylvania. You know,
these attacks have already happened, andso it's a it's a sad fact
that it's probably gonna happen again.Let's hope not. Obviously, he's a
two term member of the new althey playing local Board of Education. Retired
business owner Philip Darrow, and hepenned an op ed in the Dispatch today.
(12:46):
Check it out. You got tofind it and read it. You'll
be especially if you're listening to theshow. Most likely you'll really really like
he's spot on. And it don'tbe fooled is it's entitled don't be full
to high State campus protest not aboutsuffering and guy's head Philip, it's fantastic
to have you on. Thanks somuch for carving out some time for us. I appreciate
