Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, it's just Zach and I today. Chuck is

(00:02):
out again, so there it is.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
I also wanted to say make sure you're listening tomorrow
because Zach is going to be doing what's called Open Funes.
He'll be hosting that tomorrow morning and he's part of
our Best Buck Eye coverage. Roy Hall is joining the
show right now, so Roy, make sure you're listening tomorrow.
Zach is going to be hosting a show right here
on the radio station.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
And that's incredible, well deserved. Make sure you leave some
food and some little trinkets in there for him to
transit well from behind the glass. That'll be good. Leave
some some type of soda and coke zero, you know,
just anything to get him through. Make it Celsius or something,
just something to get through. Get some couple of high chews,

(00:47):
little bowl the high trees, you know. And then here's
the deal. Here's the deal. The last thing that you
can do, Blaze, is just write a nice little note
on three things to remember when you're hosting the show,
things that only you can give him from being in
the seat that you've been in thirty plus years. Man,
like you are veteran the game. You are on the
Mount Rushmore of a small town that nobody's ever heard of,

(01:10):
and so that because of that, just leave some insight
on what to do on the transition. Brother.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Oh okay, I was writing all that down. That was
my hand hurts. It's actually scramping. I was trying to
write all that stuff you were telling me down pass
along information only I could pass along to young Zach
as he's getting his broadcast career started. That's good. That
sound sound advice. Absolutely, man, I appreciate this. He said,

(01:38):
some coke zero, bowl of high choose. Maybe Zach does
drink what is it called Zach the al eight al eight? Yeah,
he roy he drinks al eight like it's his job.
It's crazy. He comes in with a six pack every
day and I think he gets through all of them
by the end of the show. Basically, don't you, Zach?
I mean that's pretty I mean I don't want to

(02:00):
overdo it, but well you do, though you do overdo it.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
That makes sense. Every time I called it in the show,
I'm on Hope for thirty five minutes, Like I think,
I think you're getting the times mixed up, man, Like.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
That's a good way today.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
That's a good that's a good way. That's a good
way to injure career quickly going there under the influence
of L eight or whatever.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
It's not it's non alcoholic. It's not, and it's and
it's basically, uh, it's it's like a what's the equivalent exactly,
Like I think the closest thing to it would be
ginger ginger ale. It's like a ginger ale kind of thing.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
But man, I grew I grew up around a lot
of people that drink a lot, just a lot of
people just you know, and and when I was growing up,
alcohol and well, yeah, alcohol, But here's the deal. They
also thought that their drinks was non alcoholic. So I
don't know, I don't know if it's trustworthy. I'm just saying,
you know, a lot of people that drink, they're like, oh,
this is not really alcoholic to.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Me, just you know, they're like, this is sun country.
You don't really have much in it. It's cool.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Taste it. I don't even take it.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
And it's like, well, that's your problem. There's still alcohol,
and if you can't taste it, that doesn't change what
it is exactly. Man, See how you been, man, how's
I'm ready for summer. I don't know about you, but
these warm temperatures are getting me going.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
No, I'm excited. Man, it's feeling really good. It's finally
turned the corner where the weather isn't like that teacher
that you don't like in school where you show up
and then they're like happy for no reason, like, man,
I ain't know she was really nice, and then all
of a sudden the next day is back to being
cloudy again. Man, what are you doing? Man? Can I

(03:35):
get some consistency? But it's really good. Beautiful outside Columbus
gives you probably about you know, thirty days a year
where you're just like, this is a great place to
live and raise the family. But the other three hundred
and thirty five days out the here like you need
to get it out of here.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
I need to get somewhere else other than here. Absolutely
and absolutely, yeah, for sure. Hey, what do you make
of this? Cause when I hate you up yesterday going Hey,
can you jump on to talk about this? This proposed
bill to change the Ohio State football game times. There
are some fans that are like expressing growing frustration over

(04:13):
the frequent scheduling in the big noon game on Fox,
and you know for years, they go on to say here,
Ohio State was a staple in the three thirty window,
but changing television and conference alignments have overtaken scheduling assitements
more recently, and the Buckey's played seven other twelve regular
season games at noon last year, including six straight to

(04:34):
end the season. Blah blah blah blah blah. First, my
first take here is the lawmakers that are doing It's like,
find something out you don't have enough to do, first
and foremost. Secondly, if you're going to be pissed off
about something that as an OSU fan, you should be
pissed about having to pay for a few games every year,
not when they start stop complaining about itch dance at

(04:56):
noon and I wanted it. That's where I come down
on this. I don't know where you're but Roy, what
are your thoughts?

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Here's the deal. I think what it is is and
I agree fundamentally from the way that you're thinking from
a practical standpoint, But I think what's happening is our
games are so good now that they want like that
prime prime, prime time slot these everybody wants it turned
into an event. Now we're going to college football. Yes,
it's always been an event, but a night game or

(05:25):
midday game in itself allows you to hang out, do
what you need to do, potend, maybe go to some
youth sporting events if you got kids early in the
morning and still be able to make it to the game.
I just think that it was this year was such
a big deal because we opened up with Texas. I
think if we had opened up with say a Grambling
or whoever, it wouldn't have been that much of a

(05:46):
big deal. But since the game is so massive, and
the game and well the game with Michigan but then
also the game against Texas are such huge games, you
would just think that they were pushing for a night game.
So the Michigan game, I think the noon kickoff is tradition.
It is what it is. They did push it back
my senior year back in two thousand and six, and

(06:07):
we had a three o'clock or three thirty kickoff for
that game. But it's not typical from that standpoint, so
I can see why people don't want to wake up
as early. Specifically when all these primetime games, think about it.
At night games are on, you're watching them at bars
or watching them at home, they're in your basement, they're
on your TV. I just think people want more of
that experience than having to wake up and start tailgating

(06:27):
a six.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Hey real quick, take me back to why your Michigan
game was switched to three thirty.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
I don't know why it was switched.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
They never told you. Wow. Wow.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yeah. I don't know. I didn't do the research. All
I know is bo Shin Beckler passed away like two
nights before, the night before, and I was like, this
might not be good. And I don't know why they
moved it back. Man. Maybe because it was the number
one verse number two. I don't know, man, they just
they moved it. Brother. You know what? From what the
only thing that I heard was they were trying to
get more people on the West coast to watch and

(07:00):
they moved it. But I'm not really sure.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Yeah. The other thing with this is I like to
get stuff done early on Saturdays, like the Honeydews stuff.
Now I'm in you know, I'm fifty six, I've been
married for twenty years, and so I might be in
a little bit different position than some of the people
who are griping about this, I guess. But that's my thing.
I'm like, man, I love when it's at noon, especially

(07:25):
because you know, by three fifteen or so, I got
a lot of day left to get other stuff done,
or you know, some of the other games. They typically
try not to do marquee games at the same time.
I think, as far as you know, two marquee games
at noon, certainly that happens some. But then in a
situation like that, you're like, all right, well, I can

(07:46):
just settle in, let me go, you know, get a snack,
get a file at a fish, you know, some high
choose something like that, and settle in for the three
thirty game and the night games. I would one or
the other. I was noon or the night game. I
don't even like the three thirty games and the other thing.
I heard this and you can confirm or deny, But
do the players like to play earlier rather than later,

(08:09):
so you're not sitting around all day?

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Most players like to get it out the way. Most
players like to wake up, get going, stay in the routine, play,
and then you know the game's over three thirty, you
back at home with your family. Probably about five five
to fifteen if you're a player, no later than that.
So they loved getting in and getting out. I actually
did a little bit of research for you Blaze, and
it was exactly what I said. They said, the height
stakes of the game, the national attention, and they the

(08:33):
late start was also because they can do a full
day of coverage because it was number one against number two,
and so since both teams were undefeated and obviously going
in that game, that's why they wanted to push that
game back so everybody across the nation can see it.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
Now, Okay, that makes sense, then, I guess that makes
sense that situation.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Yeah, I did. Was I did was actually learn how
to do during his breaks when you don't have you
don't know what to say that just hop on there, man,
Like just google some stuff, brother, Like you can get it,
get it back, and then when you come back from break,
you can follow up with information that people will think
that you know it and you all you did was
typing in Google.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Man, gotcha. Yeh, that's a good tip, man. I appreciate it.
He's got some good tips. There's no question about that,
especially the part where he's like, you know, take some
tips from me when you start doing your program tomorrow morning.
That's at six a m by the way, you're going
to be doing that six am open phone.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Hey, you know what man, this is I get it now.
That's why last time I saw that, I was like, man,
you look different. You cut your hairs, Like yeah, man,
that's what it is. Man. He knew he was getting
ready to do some big thing. Firsts, firstus the radio
and what's what's the movie say versus the front? The
front drive through? Next is the Fries.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Exactly, and they say, they say, prepare and look for
the job you want, not the one you have, right,
I mean, that's what you're supposed to do. And that's
why I think he's doing it, you know, I mean,
I do draft really really well. When I come in here,
you do. We both look homeless. I don't even know
what you're talking about.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Gonna be He's gonna be on Instagram live like I'm
in a studio right now. Breaks I'm working hard.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
You know, right, all two people his mom and like
somebody like from what like maybe a relative another relative
will be streaming it instag you know what, Roy too
real quick again for the the I saw this, this
this tweet, and I was cracking up. It was like
I liked it. Better when college players took secret money

(10:28):
as opposed to ni L now, and I was staring
at that tweet and I go, you know, there might
be something to that because this ni L the unexpected consequences.
Just on a side note, because we were talking Buckeyes
and everything else. Man, Sometimes for me, I'm always going, man,
this is so confusing now and this has turned into
NFL light and it's only going to get worse. And
I and I'm not putting words in your mouth. That's

(10:50):
me and the way that I feel about it. I'm
happy that the players are getting money and all of
that stuff, but I just wish there was kind of
some middle ground because it feels it feels so disingenuous.
It's just I don't know, it's starting to feel more
and more like that to me.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Well, it's going to be that because now it's transactional, right,
That's all it is, exactly football and trying that transactional
college sports. However, what we've seen is the only thing
that matters is that year. You know, before it was like,
hey we got a great recruiting class this year, and
those guys are going to be great in two or
three years. As we develop them now is what is
the best team that you could put on the field.

(11:23):
It actually gives you an opportunity, a real opportunity to
win a national championship every year. It's the same way
that the NFL does, and every team goes into the
season feeling like they got an opportunity to win it all. So,
I mean the nil piece. Eventually, you're gonna see some
type of regulation because the numbers are through the through
the roof. They're gonna keep getting more money involved. I

(11:45):
want guys to make money. I want that. However, you
got to feel bad for the people at like Kent
State and Actrons the Max of the world because if
you've got a good season at the MAX and you
are coach and got some good players, they will not
be there the next year coming.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
That's true because they're gonna get plucked right from your program.
There's no question, uh given that. Will the Buckeyes repeat
this year?

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Yeah, that's tough, man, Like you know, I'll just say
the best is yet to come. We'll see. I don't know,
hopefully it happens, but you got to retool in so
many different areas. The senior class that we have to
replace lads, is gonna be like they almost are irreplacement. Yeah,
you're talking about you know, Jack Sawyer, Traveon Henderson, Quinn,
Shawn Dush, Will Howard and Mecca, Like all those guys

(12:32):
are gone, that d line gone, and so everybody's starting
over and transition can be tough, man, But I think
we got a good shot. We'll see what we're made
of that opening week at noon against that.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Right, man, it is a special group of guys. You're right.
I don't know. It's uh reload. You hope that guys
have just a chunk a chunk percentage as far as
talent as what left as the guys coming in. Hey,
did you get that High Choose endorsement? Yeah, by the way,
did you get that.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
I'm working on it. Man. They owe me, They definitely
owe me something much money.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
I'm just raising their stock Drivenfoundation dot org. You got
big still big things going. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Yeah, man, we still got stuff going to stay driven
dot org. Man, check it out. It'll be a good
it's a good opportunity to make a difference in the community. Man.
So I appreciate you, brother, very good.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
