Speaker 1 (00:00):
So I'm gonna go all the way back to last
Wednesday on the air, and I have you know, Alex
is coming on for a segment, Alex Stone, and right
before we're going on, Zach Attack says to me, Alex
has a he has a guest with him, a special
(00:22):
surprise guest. I go, oh, and so it's Anthony Anderson.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
I take one lousy day off one.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
It's Anthony Anderson. And so Anthony comes on and it
was really cool, Like I was like, Wow, this is cool,
Like just famous people just stop by and hang out
with Alex Stone. And so I was just like, man,
that is really cool. And then yeah, big f bomb
drops on the air and neither from me from him, No, Yeah,
not from you.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
No.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
And so then I'm driving home and Alex calls me
while I'm driving home and I was like, dude, it's fine,
you know or whatever, and I just I just think,
you know, and I was trying to tell you. I
think I told you too, Alex. It's like I did
rock radio for a long time. We would have porn
stars in the studio with us. I mean all kinds
(01:11):
of debauchery. I mean it was like it would some
of those We used to do a thing called free
Beer Friday. I didn't even tell you about this, so
literally it was sponsored by Miller Lyte. They would and
I don't even know how they did this, but they
there was beer that would be provided like they and
people would come into the studio. We would choose people
(01:32):
to come in and hang with us, and it was
free Beer Friday. And that's what it was, literally, free beer,
and people would bring and this started at six am,
bright and early on Fridays. And this was the day
when you might have a stripper in or what have you.
It was absolutely crazy. My point is this was absolutely
(01:53):
nothing like, well, boy.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
Was I glad you guys were on delay when that happened.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Anthony trying to give me Friday exactly.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
I went into the newsroom here afterwards when, oh, you
guys are not gonna believe what just happened.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
And I love when we got off the air and
he goes, oh we were on the air. He goes,
I thought we were just talking to your buddies. And
I said, well, that is kind of.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
What it feels like, right yeah, And I said, the
traffic and weather didn't give it away. If you were
listening to traffic and weather, and he goes, I just
thought we were putting on their headphones and just talking
to your buddies room.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
With microphones and headphones and a big red light.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Say anything.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah, my goodness.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Plus the picture that you posted too that we got
a little snapshot inside your office there too, which there's
a lot of a lot of post it notes.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Yeah, they're actually more added today. People just keep adding
them to my door. And the sign that says I
love Beyonce, I do not. Well, I mean I don't
dislike her, but I'm not a huge Beyonce fan.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
But where did that start? The I love beyond?
Speaker 4 (02:54):
That was a discussion in the office about whether she
is a country music artist or not.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
No.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Yes, And I was on the side that she is not.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
If you took country music and said, okay, country music
fans and she a country artist, that the country genre
would probably say no, that she is not a country artist.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
They would not.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
There are others who feel very differently, And so it
turned into to a discussion about that, and that got
put on my door and I have not taken it off.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
It's pretty funny.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
She put one next to it that says was Charlie
pride as soul artist.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
Well, you know, somebody asked me, what about Taylor Swift? Yeah,
but she started as a country artist, right, and she
was a country artist. I wouldn't say she has won
any longer, but she she did a lot of country
before she did pop that she's.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Well, yeah, Beyonce clearly has made her money starting with
who were the girls that were the the other Thank
you Zach? Yeah, so clearly that's where she started, then
to solo and then yeah, you know her her clothing, right,
I think that's what she has, clothing or at least
(04:01):
a fragrance line. That's where she's making all her money.
And there of course she.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Did do a country album, but I don't know if
she's necessarily a country number one country albumen all of
American history.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Yeah, No, whatever.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Happened to Destiny's other children, they must be pretty ticked
off about now.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Well, Kelly Roland had a solo thing I remember, and
she was in that group and then I don't know
who the other one was, but off the top of
my head, but yeah, and she and Kelly just had
just a little not to the level that Beyonce is experienced,
but just as a side note or whatever.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
So yeah, so yeah, basically I got that at my
door and then never took it off. Now I've got
my police patches up here. Somebody from Columbus PD, if
you're listening, I need to patch. I've got to They're all, well, no,
I've got more than California. I've got Vegas, New Orleans, Colorado,
NYPDE and then a bunch of Beverly Hills LAPD, California
Highway Patrol, other little departments.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
But something will show up. Columbus is definitely listening there.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
No, I need a patch.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
They know we are. We're all about law enforcement here.
We backed the blue and so I guarantee they're listening
every day. They they probably will be sending you something.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Is there we go or the State Patrol? Are you
guys Highway Patroll or Highway Patrol? Highway Patrol, you're like
us out here, So.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Yeah, State Highway Patrol.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Did anybody ever ask why Anthony Anderson was there? Do
they do question next door or what?
Speaker 3 (05:21):
No? No, No, he's been rolling around quite a bit recently.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
We have a conference call that we do at three
o'clock your time every day. It's on video with all
the bureaus around the world checking in And the other
day he just walked in and said, I want to
do this call. And it was not the same day
he was here and he sat down and did our
editorial call.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
I think he's recording.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
You know, at the end of the year, they do
the the year in review, kind of the fast paced
all the pop culture stuff of the last year.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
I think he's part of that. But I don't really know.
And once we had.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
The the incident on the air, I did not ask him.
I kicked him out at that point, so I don't
know Alex's It's like, get.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
You, get straight out of here.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
You you he said, wait, but I want to stay.
I thought we were going to do this whole thing together.
I went, oh, we're good, We're good. You can go now.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Yeah, you're like, dude, you're gonna get me thrown off
of Come on, man, what are you doing. And then also,
in addition to I mean that guy, when you look
at older pictures, he is he is remarkably thinner. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
I actually used to get him confused with ice Cube
all the time. Really, Yes, in the early days, I
could never remember which of them was which.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Yeah, and he's really tiny.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Now. Yeah, he got on Law and Order is when
I finally started kind of discerning who he was.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
But he's been he's been noticeably thinner for what like
three four years now, I think maybe more.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Yeah, no, that'd be right.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
And I remember that there were big headlines about a
year and a half ago when his home was burglarized,
and you know, it was one of the big celebrity burglaries,
and when.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
I did not ask him about that either.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
But and then the other day I was telling you,
I think last week John Tesh was rolling around last week,
so he would have been a good one to get
in as well, have him do some voice work for you. Yeah,
remember his days of entertainment and all of his music.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Oh yeah, absolutely. And then also with Anthony Anderson, I
feel like, yeah, the the in addition to the weight
loss h he had. Gosh, he's done. He's actually done
a lot of stuff.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Yeah, the Lip Sync Show, he was a big hit
on that, and I think did he do Dancing with
the Stars He.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
May have it something I can't remember.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
But he's just been making this He's all over the place.
He's just one of those universal entertainers that pops up
all over the place, and now he's, you know, hanging
out in newsrooms right.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Well, he very seriously apologized after I came out. He
was he felt terrible about it. So I just know
he was very very sorry.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Yeah, no worries. I mean, that's why we're on delay.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
When you do a talk show and you put very
serious about it too.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
And I was like, oh, I'm getting the serious Anthony,
and we except Cadillacs.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Yeah, if he'd like to send anything, you know, we
can get you the address, no problem. Uh is he
that rich where he could be?
Speaker 3 (07:59):
No problem.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
I'm sending us a car.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
I'm sure he's doing all right.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Yeah, I don't know. He might be a couple of
bucks behind Ryan Seacrest, but not by much at this
point because he's on everything.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
I got you, I got you on that.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
I'm sure he gets residuals from Blackish and some of
the other shows too.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Oh absolutely, yeah, yeah for sure. All right. Airbus saying that,
and this is something that I always check, you know.
I was kind of when I was promoting that you
were coming up with this, Alex. I always check whenever
I book a flight. I'm like, what kind of aircraft
am I going to be out Now. It's subject to
change clearly as you get but I always look at
(08:32):
that and you know, when you see airbus is what
you're flying on, which a lot of people you know,
still those are still you know, used frequently, but I'm
not sure which exact airlines, but I can tell you
that that is something that people will possibly look at
and to see that this safety issue ended up getting
software upgrade. That's a great thing clearly.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Yeah, that they end up taking care of.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
Yeah, it's pretty much except for Southwest, it's an Alaska Airlines.
It's pretty much every airline now that all the big
ones are flying airbus. But so going back a bit
to Friday, they put out an Airbus did an urgent
safety order at the time that the details were a
little bit iffy when they first put it out, but
they told everybody who had that runs an A three
(09:13):
twenty all airlines that have the A three twenties, six
thousand of them globally that were part of this. They've
got a lot more of them out there, but it
wasn't all A three twenties.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
It was certain ones.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
But they had to do an immediate software update because
they said intense solar radiation could corrupt data critical to
flight controls is how they put it. Well, that didn't
sound good. A three twenties and you know, and it's
a family of a three twenties to eight three twenty ones.
The new NEOs that are out there, they're very popular
globally and here in the US, United Delta, American Frontier,
(09:45):
Spirit they all fly them. A lot of other airlines
as well. Mike Stengel is an industry analyst. He says
this impacted just about every airline minus like Southwest, which
is all Boeing, but Boeing has had its problems when
when it was Boeing having the issue, and then south
West was really impacted by it. But he says, everybody flies,
He's almost every type.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
Of airline around the world operates it. It's the seventy
seven eight three twenty are equivalent to your yellow counts
of the Skies. They're just everywhere. Every type of airline operates,
some very fuel efficient and airlin just love the economics
of these aircraft.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
So then later on Friday, we learned this was because
of a Jet Blue flight on October thirtieth that they
were flying to Newark, New Jersey and they dropped in
air and it wasn't from turbulence, but it was like
the pilots had told the plane to go nose down,
but the pilots didn't tell the plane go nose down.
And in fact they were on autopilot, but the flight
controls put them in a rapid descent.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
This was from that flight.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
We've got three people. Seemed like maybe elastoration in the head.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Yeah, they had injuries on board and apparently corner in
Jet Blue was solar radiation that had corrupted something in
the onboard computers that caused it to do that. That
had dropped so suddenly the passengers hit the ceiling and
they were badly injured. So Mike says his software issue.
Every plane needs about two or three hours to download
the update. It's kind of like updating your iPhone. The
bad news they had to do it right during Thanksgiving weekend,
(11:08):
when already the planes were full and they were trying
to move them quickly.
Speaker 5 (11:11):
This is something that they said. Airbus said that it
should be a fix of up to three hours. So
that's something that can be addressed between flights or on
overnight chucks.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
So guys over the weekend, the airlines did their updating.
Americans says they had to do over two hundred of
their planes unite. It has a bunch of eight three
twenties and eight three twenty one NEOs, but only six
of theirs. Delta had to do just about fifty little
less than fifty of them. They got them all done.
Airbus is saying most of the six thousand globally, all
but one hundred of them globally are now done. This woman,
(11:44):
by the way, I mean there were delay she'd get
off of her plane because they said they had updated,
and she said as they were waiting, it took a
long time and a lot longer than they thought.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
People got really angry.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
It was a wild scene. I mean you had people crying,
you at people hollering, you at people just.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
Exploding in for because they were so angry how long
it was taking to just update the computer system. But
we all know how long it takes to update your
iPhone too, and it can take a while. So they
had to do it for a whole airplane. But there's
another issue today, by the way, Airbus has reportedly discovered
issue impacting panels on some a three twenties off the factory.
So that's delaying some deliveries. It doesn't look like that
(12:20):
that involves any that are actually flying right now. But
these two issues at Airbus that they're dealing with. But
this one over the weekend seems like at least in
the US, they have updated everything, but it did cause
some delays.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Yeah, while the people are waiting on that update that
we're all upset. Guess what else they would have been
really upset about.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
Crashing and dying there's that had gone down there, it
would have been totally a much worse issue.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Yeah, no question about that, No question whatsoever about something
like that. That is I can't even begin to imagine
if you're a pilot on that flight, the Airbus flight,
the Jet.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Blue Jet Blue one.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Yeah, yeah, and you're on autopilot, you guys are probably
just you know, sitting there shooting that you know what,
and all of a sudden nose down the whole plane.
Just to say you, I'm telling you you probably I
would think pilots get a discount on depends because I would.
I'm telling you, I can't even begin to imagine you're
just sitting there chilling, and you're not expecting that and
(13:15):
there's just no warning.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
And then boom, it just started together. So it's not
turbulence or anything like that. But remember back to all
the Boeing's problems on the Max. That was another thing.
Remember it was what they called the MCAST system where
that thing would just nose down and then they would
fight it back, and then it would go back up
and then nose dive down again. So yeah, and it
can be really serious in Boeing's situation. Not it's not
the same situation as Airbus, but in the ones that
(13:39):
they had, remember two of the planes went down, and
so that anytime it's a flight control issue and you've
got you lose altitude, they want to get that fixed
as quickly as they can.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Man, what sucks is and I know it's just part
of the cost of doing business, but the fact that
it's that sensitive with regard to downloads or updates if
you will, in order to make sure that that craziness
is happening, You would think, how did that? But I
guess it's because of the intense solar radiation that corrupts it.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
So as a result, yeah, well, and it shows you
that the planes are big computers these days that it's
not like it used to be where it was completely
actual cables running everything that it's all electronic now and
it's like your phone or like any car that we
buy now, where it's a lot of computers doing it.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
The planes are in the sky and in the sun
all the time. Why is this suddenly like this solar
radio issue?
Speaker 4 (14:29):
Yeah, and the eight three twenty has been around forever,
but it was and it's not that something else was
going to happen immediately, but it was more they couldn't
take that risk if they figured out what went on
with the Jet Blue flight and maybe that was an
anomaly and it was never going to happen again, but
they had to figure out and prevent that because what
if it did happen again. Boeing didn't think the system
(14:49):
with their seven thirty seven Max would ever happen again.
And then it happened again and everybody on board was killed.
So as an airplane maker, you don't want to say
it doesn't matter, and and then it happens again.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
Yeah, I think they're doing they're doing the right thing
being proactive here. It seems like to me, you know,
with this update and so on. All right, Alex Stone,
ABC News Alex Worth staring down the barrel of you know,
two to four inches in the morning, and you know
we're gonna here we go, We're starting this whole thing.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
We're freezing out here too. It's seventy four right now.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
To shut up, all right, Well, I'm gonna send you
some photos tomorrow of the winter wonder land.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Okay, I'll send you some from the pool.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
You son of all right, Alex, thanks, brother, appreciate you guys.
See you man
