Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's National French Friday.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Of course bring them on.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
You know what, though I don't have any.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
I mean, man, now, sirih, why would you even say
it was National French Friday if you're not providing the fries.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
I just it was one of those, you know, Zach
and I we really talked about this because I go,
you know, we could try to, but it's a matter of.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Hang on, I'm shaking up my awaken one to eighty
shakeover here. Since there's no fries, I might as well.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Have this what's closed. It's just I I had some
of the best fries in this city for lunch, just
so you know, So if that helps, does shut up?

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Because I know where you had lunch to and that's
annoying me. They don't have a drive through window.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
First of all, no, I'll say it, Sciota. I was
over at the Country Click. You know what though, here's
the here's the thing. I went over with Don Ross.
Don Ross, the retirement boss and so well, he was
in today to do a new commercial and so we
recorded that and then we went over there for lunch.
That's kind of the routine when we, you know whatever,

(01:07):
when he's going to do this and he always he's
very generous. And so we went over and another friend
of ours was with us, and so the men's well,
it's the Member Member, which is a tournament that's going
on at Sciota, and they were going off. We were
sitting outside right by the first tea and so we
were watching people tea off there and I did get

(01:29):
the fries, and you know, Don talks about how these
are the best fries in the city. They they really
are incredible. They're the shoe string variety.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
They're very that's the best kind of face no matter
who makes them.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
And you can hold it from the very end and
it will stick out like a diving board, so they're
not droopy, you know, a lah Wendy's you know, I
there fry some people. Not my favorite thing, Wendy says,
plenty of things that I love on the menu. Fries
are really not the thing.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
I like it when they're using Lord maybe Siota.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Yeah, oh, I don't know. I just know they do
have a newer chef there in the building, so he
may have changed the way that he's you know, going
about that, but boy, he wasn't wrong. Those things are unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Well, thanks for bringing some back appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Well right, well, and here's the other On a side note,
I look up and you know, it's a who's who
that's members there, and then he goes, oh look there's
uh he goes, you recognize that guy? And I'm staring
and I'm staring and I'm going, I know, I know

(02:37):
who that cam Atkinson who used to be with the
Columbus Blue Jackets, who's now with the Flyers, but storied
blue Jacket And he was in the member member and
it was cool he was and I watched him tee off.
He laced it right down the middle. I mean, but
you know what hockey players are, they're natural golfers, seems like,

(02:59):
because it's a similar the way they slapshot and the
way that they the same same shape. Similar. Yeah, but
think about it, he's probably going Golf's really easy. The
ball's not moving. I mean, baseball players will do that,
but they talk about how that'll mess up a baseball
player swing trying to play golf because it's you know,
the bat and the way you're still swinging around your

(03:20):
body and so on, and so far I don't know,
but so.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Is it still a who's who? When you're there or
is it more of a who's that?

Speaker 1 (03:27):
You know, it's still who's who?

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Oh okay, yeah, okay, yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
As far as the people that are there and playing,
and so we were buying, we watched, We watched several
groups t off it was cool. It's cool. Mike Sheddinger
shed He's been a member there a million years, shedding
her funeral home.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
I won't say a word about his game being dead.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
I'm not.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
It's too easy. It's too easy. I'm not going to
do it.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
But but he's far from that. Guy's got a great
swing and h he's a really good golfer. I actually
played one time there with him too. He's he's good,
he can score, he's good. He's really good. But the
fry thing back to that, so Zach and I were
talking about it, it is like, you can't really if we
try to, what are we going to test drive fries

(04:11):
on the air. Everybody knows where their favorite fries are
at this point. They do it's what you're dipping them in.
So that becomes almost kind of the conversation and we're
not going to get anything that tastes half way decent
because we have to wait for and we can't just
go get it right now and then wait, well, let's.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Put them in the microwave. They get a little moists,
you know, sitting.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Gross, They would be gross. You got to have those
right out of the fryar, right out of the however
they're prepared, you don't, you can't have them. So I
was like, Eh, it's probably not worth it to you know.
But as far as what you dip him in, he
likes to drag his through mayonnaise, but he said it
gets in his beard, which.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Is like, suck all in my beard, but it's still
really good.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Makes me I'm like, look, I love mayonnaise on a
b LT on a burger depending.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Not on a beard delta though.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
That's that's a lot of beard.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Sometimes you get a little drip, like right under your
bottom lip and just save it for later. Li it
off when you're at work. I'm sure you've seen a
lot of white stuff in.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
My I have, and I don't ever ask what it
is because I I.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Don't want to know such a thing as face dandruff.
I was just going with that, That's what I was
hoping for.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
God, Yeah, I know, what do you I'm just I'm
just a traditional guy when it comes to pretty much
with fries. I mean, you can throw cheese on them
and bacon. Oh, let's go drizzle ranch.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Yeah, take the roosters and buy me a bucket of
dumpster fries. I'm good with that.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
And the Moor's cheese sauce the better. I go nuts
on those, Yes.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
But if there's nothing on them, we're not making them loaded,
just ketchup, you know, And depending on how the mood
I'm in, I won't even drag them through that I can.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
If I can get them fresh and hot. Honestly, I'm
a fan of the Rallies fries. But it's just the
consistency of knowing how they're going to come to me,
isn't there? So I don't venture to their place very often.
But I love that that breaded whatever it is.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
And then you don't need to dip them or in anything.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
You don't have to know. They're very good by themselves.
It's what do they call them, not spiced but seasoned fries. Yeah,
but they've got like a breading, almost like a battery.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
I like them.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Oh yeah, there's nothing wrong with that. Those can be
almost the filling. I mean like a meal almost, you know,
but there it is National French Fry Day. There are
free fry deals everywhere. We could go all the way
to the end of the show and probably still not
finish this list that I have in front of me.
But there's all kinds of different stuff. Most of them

(06:53):
involve the app for wherever you're.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Going because they want the data.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Yes, that's it, that really is it? Sheets gosh oh,
Penn Station East Coast subs. Their fries are fresh cut.
I love those, and then all obviously their subs are.
Don't get me started. I don't really want to do
we could keep going on that.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
I don't know if Sheet still does their fry thing
er not where it's like nine to ninety nine, it
was unlimited fries for the month.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
I remember that. I don't know if they Yeah, I
don't know if they still do.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
That, because I imagine people were probably getting their eighty
dollars with the fries for nine ninety nine.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Zach probably he could be. He's probably the one.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Over there, especially on the west side man, because they
just sit in the parking lot seat. Can you just
ivy the fries into my arm?

Speaker 3 (07:42):
Am I the only one though, for real. When it
comes to gepping it using just mustard the only one.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Well, I've never put mustard on.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
The mixed mustard and mayonnaise too.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
It's good.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Yeah, so yeah, I could see where that would work
on a burger. As far as just mustard on a
hot dog, yeah, like just a fry in it, I
feel like it's too overwhelming. You don't have enough surface
area with a fry, and mustard over powers. So it's
almost like it just tastes like you're eating something that. Yes,

(08:14):
it resembles a fry. You're looking at it, it is
a French fry, but then you just put it. After
you have it dipped it in the mustard, you take
a bite of it and you're like, this tastes so strong,
Like yeah, because it is overwhelming.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
It is its powerful but powerful guy.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
So I guess you are, uh, speaking of powerful. The
Reds one last night and a decisive victory shutout last night,
so they split the series with Miami tonight. Game three.
A's a three game set. At the beginning tonight with
the Rockies, they're in Town, a Great American Ballpark, and
then they go to the All Star Break. Then the

(08:52):
league goes to the All Star breaks. So congratulations Red
splitting that that was a great comeback for them. We'll
see if they can finish off this first half of
the SEA in the way they should be, which is
winning this series against a not very good Rockies team,
which makes me more scared. We've spoken about this.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Yefore, don't go in there with attitude, go in there
and win.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Yeah, what do you think about? Or you probably hadn't
heard about this yet, but and in maybe you knew
that this was something, or maybe you didn't. But as
far as a salary cap, now, we know that salary
caps exist in the NFL, in the NHL, a lot
of leagues, but they do not in Major League Baseball.
But the commissions that Rob Manford is advocating for a

(09:35):
salary cap, and they're talking about I don't know if
I like the angle of this article advocating for salary
cap to help remedy the economic disparity in the game
and make things more competitive for all of the MLB team.
Wait a minute, are we talking to equity and inclusion?

(09:55):
I mean, what's happening here? Is that really your angle?
I do have to say, as somebody who roots for
a team that will not spend the money as say,
let's say, like a Yankees club or a Red Sox club.
It is irritating as a Reds fan that they don't
pony up the type of money that some of the

(10:15):
other clubs pony up in order to get elite talent.
And I'm talking up and down the roster, So that
is an irritating thing rooting for the Reds, I will
say that. But doing a salary cap does kind of
level the playing field. I just, I just I don't know.
I'm like, have you change that? How much is it
going to change baseball? But you might have some teams

(10:38):
you never hear of in the mix now, which would
make it more interesting. I feel like the Yankees are
in it every year, the Dodgers are in it every year.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
The you know what I'm saying, says your desire to
have a more interesting season, Super sed is somebody's desire
to get as much as they can wherever they need
to get it. You're the most talented pitcher in baseball.
Since an he Red's offer you twelve million dollars, the
Yankees offer you thirty six million. Should you stand in
the way of their capitalist right to make that thirty

(11:08):
six million.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
No, no, I shouldn't.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
And that's that's where I am on it.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Man.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
I think you know, that's a great point the Reds.
If they want that, then they need to spend that money.
If they don't want to spend that money, then do
the best you can do with what you're willing to spend.
Well to each his own based on what you're willing
to do to get it.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Man, that's a uh, that's a fantastic point right there.
Players are said to be skeptical of how this structure
would affect their ability to get paid to play ball.
So exactly what you kind of just laid out there. Yeah,
I mean, you know, this is Manfred and I don't
know if this is something he's doing just to say,

(11:49):
well I threw it out there. Nobody's really receiving it,
you know. I it just could be him doing that,
trying to saying I'm trying No that really it's going nowhere.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
I want to figure both sides in any way with
the NC double A and this this legislation. I know
Jim Jordan's involved in the nil money and capping what
the schools can spend for the collegiate athletes. Yeah, you know,
maybe it's just that time of the year when people
want to talk about capping how much you can make,
because that's the same logic and see, and what's funny

(12:22):
is on the professional level, I don't agree. On the
collegiate level, I could be convinced that we need we
need caps on the nil because you've got schools like
the Ohio State University that can find eight million dollars
a year if they want to for some player, whereas
other schools can't come up with that. They might be
able to get you an eighty seven Chevy to drive

(12:46):
and maybe a free pizza once a week, but they
don't have that kind of budget. But it's college. So
unless we're going to make the NC double a the
farm system for the NFL, then maybe some regulars appropriate there.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
Well I don't know because this kind of almost what
you just said almost kind of applies the stuff that
you just said about Major League Baseball. And I know
you're going, well, it's collegiate, it's different, is it really?
I mean, it's pro lite.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Well, that's what I'm saying. If we're going to say
that's not really, then we need to say the NCAA
is a farm system of wel professional sports and get
it on. Quit masquerading you're getting an education. No, you're
getting a national championship and making forty seven million dollars
this year, all for the efforts of that player.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
And that's not going What really is happening is not
going to change the definition of it. May or may not,
but we all know exactly what's happening there. So if
you're going to use the mentality of what you said
with Major League Baseball and no salary cap, then I
don't think it should be applicable to collegiate sports either then,
because now you're taking a guy's ability to and quite frankly,

(13:54):
in college football, you're one play away from not getting
really paid on Sunday, you're real you're one play. So
if they're going into college football and they're being touted
as this and they go, who, we're pulling out all
the stops. This kid's getting like crazy money, then I

(14:16):
say it's even more important collegiately for them if they're
able to get that get paid, man, get your money
it just because guess what the schools are going to
get their money based on what you're bringing there because
if you're this big star or somebody who's supposed to
be doing whatever, you're putting butts in the seats. Yes,
you're selling collegiate merchandise.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Well, I guarantee you, and I don't know how much
before nil, those players were not getting any more.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Merchandising, not on the surface.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Back in two thousand and two. You know number thirteen
Jersey So well, yeah, I'm Maurice Colors brought in millions
in no sales, just in merchandise. That guy should get
retro from it.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
He should get retro.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
Money can get it. But do you remember what they
got him for driving a a used blazer or something
from a buy here, pay here a lot, stupid man.
And today we're throwing millions of dollars at these kids
to come to in a fair universe.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
I get it, I get it, But you know what,
you can't go back in time unless somehow, some way
they do that. But you can't go back in time
and change anything. But what you can do is you
can make sure that doesn't happen. The next Maurice Clorette
is getting hooked up. I see both sides of this,
but I'm not convinced that they should be putting a
cap on what colleges are able to write a check

(15:34):
for it. I know you're going well, some of the
colleges just flat out don't have well unfortunately, that's where
you're at.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
I just but even before nil, I've always said the
kids ought to have something. You get hurt, permanently, hurt
on the field. You ought to never have to worry
about whether you can take care of your family or
not or whatever. There should always be some kind of compensation. Sure,
you're not a millionaire, the school should be required to
provide that for every player.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
Yeah, man, but you're talking about what could have been.
You don't know what for sure. So there's there's Oh man,
this could keep going like we could. We could keep
going all the way to the end of the show.
