Speaker 1 (00:00):
As we know earlier there was a horrific plane crash
Air India Jet that was carrying hundreds of people. For
the very latest on this, let's if I can actually
get this to work. There it is, let's let's join
now in is de La Kutierra, who's joining us and
welcome to the show.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
So what is the What is the very latest on this? Ennis?

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Hey? Yes, as the latest is that there is a
survivor here. So the only known survivor has been identified
as from mesh Vivash Kumar. He is a British national
and we understand according to police, that he actually was
able to survive because he jumped out of the emergency exit.
He'd been sitting near an emergency exit and he was
able to jump out of that, so that is how

(00:45):
he was able to escape. It's really remarkable when you
look at these images of the plane crashing and the
huge fireball, the massive cloud of black smoke billowing there
in the sky shortly after the crash. It's incredible to
think that anyone was able to survive that. But he
was able to walk away seemingly unharmed. He did go

(01:06):
to the hospital. There was a picture released of him
you know, that was taken from his hospital bed where
he's got kind of cut, some scrapes on his face.
But you know, all in all, considering what he's been through,
he does appear to be in remarkable conditions.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
So when you know, we started the show with this
because I am fascinated by the fact that when you
see this horrific ending to this and that someone did survived.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
He was.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
There was a doctor that was quoted in one of
the articles I was reading as saying, you know, he
was disoriented with multiple injuries all over his body. Seems
to be out of danger at this point, but part
of him and I don't know if you saw this
as well, but he was telling one of the medics
that it started descending and suddenly split into two, throwing

(01:55):
him out, followed by a loud explosion. And so you're
saying he jumped out of an exit like on the plane.
That's what his account is right now.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
That is the latest we are hearing from police. Yeah,
that he was able to jump out.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
He told.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Indian media. Yeah, it was an Indian newspaper as well.
What you're saying, the fact that he was he heard
a loud thing, But yeah, police is saying that he
was seated next to an emergency exit and he was
able to jump out.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
And then also, what are the as far as on
the ground we know this was. It was into a
medical college, I believe correct, that's right.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Yeah, specifically, we understand it was a hostel. The building
that the plane crashed into. I understand there was a
group of people there having lunch when this happened, so
some real concerns for them, you know, we I think
immediately when the plane crashed, there were concerns about the
people who may have been in the area. Such a
densely populated area. This is a big city in India,
and you can see it from all the images that

(02:57):
have emerged from the side of the crash. They're clearly
you know, buildings and lots of people there. So we
do know that some of the people who were in
the in those buildings have been treated. We're waiting for
exact kind of you know, more details as to you know,
who and why and and and the numbers of the
people who've been injured as a result of this. But yeah,

(03:18):
the plane crashing into what we understand now was a
hostel for this medical college.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
And then also as far as the black box go,
we know there's always a black box on these planes,
and do are they indicating that that is still intact?
Are they able to find that or they're hopeful or
is there any any reports on that.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Yeah, so our reporting is that the black boxes were
in the tail, and the tail, you know, we actually
saw it. It appears to be kind of intact. There's
images showing it kind of protruding from the building that
the plane crashed into. So the tail itself appears to
be intact. And so that the thinking is that it
should be relatively easy for investigators to access those black boxes,

(04:00):
you know, and so we should be getting kind of
more answers fairly quickly, hopefully. We know India is going
to be leading the investigation. We also understand that there
will be a team of US investigators from the NTSP
who will be traveling to India to assist with the investigation.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Do you have also how many people have perished at
this point? I mean, did they give a number? We
know how many I guests two hundred and forty two
on board, so two hundred and forty one plus the
five that were on the ground, I mean, or is
that still kind of kind of blurry right now.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Yeah, So you know, interestingly, police day there may be
other survivors. That was the last we heard from them.
You know that the day has of course come and
gone in India, so you know, we haven't gotten any
other updates. But but yeah, the last we heard from
police is that there could be others, so certainly, you know,
families holding out hope. The only one we know of

(04:55):
so far though, is that one British.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
National and as de la Katerra, thank you very much
for the very late on this ABC News.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
We appreciate your reporting to us. Thank you, thank you.
All right, we'll see you awful.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
Have you seen the closed circuit video? So have you
seen that? No, that is the oddest takeoff I've ever seen.
It's as if the jet gets five hundred feet in
the air and is suddenly like in a cross wind
or something. It just kind of stops and then it

(05:31):
just slowly floats downward below the horizon. That is the
strangest thing. It's nothing like what I expected to see.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Like it just lost power or something.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
Yeah, like there was almost as if it was being held.
I mean, it's it's very strange here and I know
it's kind of hard because but there it is on
the runway right.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
There, and so there's an actual footage.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
Yeah, this is the closed circuit and this is posted
on Facebook from you know, one of our I heard people,
Joe Pegs, So I'm gonna trust that he's got the
right stuff there. Yeah, but as you watch this thing
taking off.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Okay, now it's starting to go.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
And it gets up in the air and all looks well,
you know, two hundred, three hundred, four hundred and five hundred,
and then it's just as if it stops.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Stops climbing and then begins to kind of think.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
Drifts to the left. What is that?

Speaker 2 (06:24):
What?

Speaker 4 (06:25):
I don't I never I don't even understand what the
propulsion of those engines, how it's possible for that plane
to go left and down that way and then.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
It just comes back down and then ooh the explosion
that is That is crazy.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
That's a very strange. I will I'll go ahead and
share the PAGs post on my Facebook page, because you guys,
you got to say that.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
That is bizarre.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
It looks like everything's fine, and then it's like, okay,
that's all the power we're going to have and not
only is that all the power now we're.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Losing anything we had, Yeah, slowly, and so it's almost
like it's like it just start.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
It's like deflating, like, uh, we're coming back down now.
And you know what, it comes down to the grounds.
It appears it looks kind of slow. Yes, like they
could have realistically landed again maybe or something without crashing.
You understand, like it didn't flip, It wasn't tilted like

(07:28):
where the wing ends.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Up hitting the Uh man, it doesn't make sense. That
is bizarre.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
You're right, it's almost like a hand is like holding
it down or clearly that's impossible, but just to kind
of paint the picture or whatever anyway.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Really really sad. Of course, we'll stay on top of
this
