Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let me just get this out of the way, because well,
Chuck is off today, thank god, because he'd be riding me.
I'm sure like a government rented mule right about now.
But well, congrats to your Bengals, Chuck, Congrats to your Bengals.
I'm just getting this out of the way. Steelers, we uh,
we do. We fell short last night. We needed what,
(00:22):
I don't know, another minute and a half. Isn't that
always the story when your team gets that close, you
just need just a little bit more time. I guess
the sixty minutes wasn't enough for the Steeler. Also, I
don't know if you saw the one three hundred pound
lineman ends up, you know, so excited, he ends up
half jumping on top of well, I I like to
(00:43):
call him wheelchair Rogers, I'll just say it. And so
I he was not. Aaron was not happy about that.
I mean, think about how brittle Aaron's bones are. He's like,
I don't want friendly fire taking me out. So anyway,
congratulations to the Bengals. And I I don't know what
else to say except please you can't jawl yet. You
(01:04):
guys are sucking. You don't have a very good record
right now, maybe another six games if you guys go
on a winning streak. But hey, Joe Flacou could be
your answer at least for the rest of this year.
Hopefully he'll be your answer, because that's the only one
that I think gonna even have as a chance helping you.
Kind of a thing, I don't know. He's part of
our best Buckeye coverage. Jeff Logan is joining us now
(01:25):
and LOGI welcome again to the Mark Blazer Show.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
How are you, sir?
Speaker 3 (01:29):
I am doing terrific. Good to hear from you. And
that's too bad about your Steelers. I think the solution
is and Steelers got to quit playing conference games on
Thursday nights or just schedule Cleveland every Thursday.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
I know, and I don't have that number. I know
there's numbers in front of me, but you're right. The
Steelers don't do well on Thursday night football for whatever.
But Monday night football and Sunday night I guess those
numbers are really really good.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
I think I got all that right.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
I could have it like like mixed up there, but
I think that's the case with that.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
It's kind of what you're alluding to there.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
Yeah, and what another slap in the face. I believe
to the Cleveland Browns who gave up a guy who
goes down. And you know, Cincinnati has no reason to
win that game in Pittsburgh, and yet the guy that
they decided to get rid of leads them to a
win against the Steelers. So another great move by the
Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
You know.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
The other thing, it was the battle of the old
guys last night. I don't know where you come down
on that stuff, but I'm always look as a Steeler fan.
At first, I'm like, we're in big trouble with it.
I cannot believe they handed the guy. But about thirteen
million or whatever for Aaron Rodgers, and you know, right
about now, I go, okay, I'm pleasantly surprised at what's happening,
you know, so on and so forth. As far as
(02:47):
Flacco goes, I mean, he's getting a song and a
dance compared to what Aaron Rodgers is being paid. And
I don't know what Aaron have just drifted off into
the sunset. Maybe I'm not sure, but when I saw
last night, I don't know if you saw the final
play or maybe on Sports Center or whatever, if you
weren't up to watch.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
He literally threw the ball there.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
I think it was like sixty nine point two yards
for the hail Mary at the end, seventy yards out
of this guy and I have a different kind of
respect for him now, Jeff.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
It's like, oh yeah, yeah, it makes it makes all
those old people feel.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Good, right exactly, That's exactly it. Because like, for instance,
when I see some you know, somebody that's around my
age or whatever, when I'm golfing, like, I know you
still you pound it off the tee. I know I've
heard that, like you hit it, you hit it a
pretty good distance. It makes me feel good because as
(03:41):
somebody who is around you know, I think I'm a
little bit younger than you. I don't even get.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Close to that.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
And I've tried my whole career, golf career to hit
the ball farther and I somehow, some way cannot do it.
Yet you got people like you still just striping it. Man,
just boo, you know whatever. So I'm rooting in that
situation for you.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Well, I've got a solution for you for your golf
and this will fix it. To me, Just move up
a t or two.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Like to the ladies, teas maybe whatever.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Color YouTube just move up?
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Uh Dad, gone it? I suppose I set myself up
for that. I don't know, man, You're right.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
It sure is nice to have a shorter club into
most of the most of the holes. But that's the
only way I'm gonna achieve it at this point. I
think that's the only way that Or kick it down
the fairway if nobody's looking right when I get up there,
you go.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Take me through how you felt about last week.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
And you know the Buckeyes they covered the the fifteen
and a half and they won by eighteen thirty four
to sixteen. The final, of course in Illinois in Champagne,
the over under fifty and a half. You know what,
how do they do that? By the way, you know
the total of the over under the totals fifty, and
you know people are taking you know, you could have
(05:00):
easily won the.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Over there as you could have the under.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
But in a situation like that, it is a head
scratcher that the powers that be, the people who you know,
all the odds makers and stuff. It's like, how do
they come up with that stuff and get so close
like that? It's crazy? Anyway, Julian say in nineteen of
twenty seven for one hundred and sixty six yards, couple touchdowns.
Bo Jackson ten carries forty seven yards, two receptions for
(05:25):
twenty yards and a TD.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
So on and so forth.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
We can go down this whole You know all the
stats and all of that stuff, but as far as
the way the Buckeyes performed last week in Illinois and Champagne,
how did you feel about it and what were your thoughts?
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Well, I thought it was another great win for Ohio
State going on the road in the Big Ten, oh
it could be really good, especially in the beginning of
the game and give their fans nothing to chure about.
And Illinois was a team that, quite frankly, with their quarterback,
was not turning the ball over with any regularity at all.
In fact, back had thrown for twelve touchdown passes already
(06:03):
this season with no interceptions, and in his last eleven
starts at home had twenty seven touchdowns and no picks.
So this is a guy that has been really, really good,
especially at home. And Ohio State was able to force
three turnovers in that game and turned each one of
those turnovers into touchdowns. So that's what you got to do.
(06:23):
If you're going on the road, you cannot participate in
your own demise by turning it over on your own.
You got to make sure you get him from the
home team.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
You know.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
And speaking of that, Julian saying, is one of those
people that he is doing. I would imagine exactly what
our coaching staff wants him to do, which is he
doesn't panic. He seems to be pretty calm. He is
not losing the game for us as they say you
can do, especially you know, you know, given how much
(06:53):
experience he really does have as.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
The guy in the spotlight.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
And so you got a guy in joy and saying
who is not He's not giving up the games for us.
He is playing such solid football right now. And in
addition to that, he clearly is very talented. He's a
great passer too.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Yeah, no doubt about it. Through the first half of
the season, he now leads the country in completion percentage.
There is no quarterback that has completing passes at a
higher rate than is Julian saying. Now, having said that
Ohio State from a standpoint of passing yards is forty
first in the country. So we're not getting explosive plays,
(07:32):
but that's not his fault. We're not getting explosive plays
because everybody is scared the freaking depth of us going
over top. So they're playing three deep safeties and he
is picking them apart underneath. And the other thing, Mark
I want to bring to everybody's attention, this was just
announced today that the Ohio State offensive line was awarded
the mid season what they call the Joe Moore Award,
(07:55):
and that is the offensive line that has produced protected
their quarterback, created You know the rankings that they do
for offensive linemen, they are number one in the country
as an offensive line. So you take the combination of
great protection, spot on passing, and the best receiver room
(08:17):
in the country. Good luck stopping that.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Yeah, that's beautiful. That is a beautiful thing. And certainly
that is something that teams take a look at. The
remaining teams are taking a look at their studying those
films until the film wears out. I would imagine trying
to figure out a way, trying to find a weakness.
How can we get to them, how can we get
to them? But you know what, the other thing too
about Julian it seems like LOGI that he he spreads
(08:41):
around and look, he's just taking what the defense given.
It doesn't feel like he's trying to force anything. We
have all of these weapons, all of these weapons, I
mean every snap, we have all these weapons, and he
just he's gonna fight. You can't guard. You can't double everybody.
You can double the obvious Jeremiah or you know, Carnell,
depending on you know what type of you know, set
(09:03):
up the defense is going for. But you can't. You
can't double team everybody. And he's always finding something with
all these different weapons. That's got to be incredibly frustrating
for the for the the opponent, no.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
Question, Yeah, it is frustrating for the opponent, but it's
very positive obviously for uh, the the offensive players, the coaches,
and I think they've been the players have been unselfish.
I think Brian Hartline has been unselfish in his play calling,
you know, because you know, here's a guy that's a
wide receiver. Coach, he wants to have those explosive plays
(09:35):
down the field, but he has learned to understand that
we've got a great defense. Don't do anything wrong on
the offensive society, you will eventually win.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Yeah, you put all that extra stress on them if
we're turning it over for sure, and you don't want
to mess up that mojo, man, because right now, there's
no better.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Defense in college football.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
They're there, They're just can't be so Wisconsin coming off
of a curb stomping last week from an Iowa team
blank get him thirty seven to nothing, and you know
that was at home. Talk about an embarrassing loss for Wisconsin. Look,
they're two and four. LOGI, you know we're not going
to sit here and talk about how great of a
team the Badgers are and all of that. But Buck
(10:14):
guys are twenty five and a half point favorites for tomorrow.
Forty one and a half is the over under. As
you know we go into Camp Randall Stadium. Your thoughts
as the buck Geys are in Madison for this, well.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
I think you got to approach it the same way
you approached it when you went to Washington, when you
went to Illinois, is that if you allow the place
to become a hostile environment, it will. If you get
started fast, the crowd will turn from the home team
and you should be able to breathe through things. In
the last four games that Wisconsin has lost after winning
(10:45):
their first two against nobody. They have averaged only eight
points a game in those four games offensively, and they're
going up against the number one scoring defense in the country,
Ohio State. Giving up less than a touchdown game, That
to me sounds like it's going to turn into a
gooseg Hey, So.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Do you have any thoughts on you know, the buck
guys looking so dominant this early. Are you more surprised
by that or are you surprised by you know, the
hiccups from Penn State and Texas and you know, these
teams that were projected to be doing you know, pretty
well given you know, Arch manning with Texas and that,
(11:25):
you know, we were talking about a little bit yesterday
on the air, Jeff that you know, the media wants
so bad to to you know, uh, grab Arch and
just go running with him and talk about him and
lift him up and talk about how great he is.
And they haven't been able to do that as of yet.
But do you do you think it's uh, you know,
which one. Are you more shocked by the of those
(11:46):
two scenarios?
Speaker 3 (11:48):
Well, I think that's one of the things, quite frankly,
that makes college football so exciting and so interesting to
the fan base. Is that there are crazy things that
are going on every day. I mean, for Penn State
to go out to the West Coast and lose to
UCLA and then back it up with a loss against
Northwestern just flows my mind. We wanted to throw Alabama
(12:09):
in the dumper after they lost the first game to
Florida State, and now they've come back and they're considered
a top five team in the country. I just think
that the college football season and the way that the
talent is out there. How about Indiana, What a great
story it is over there and their coach getting eighty
eight million dollars over the next seasons. I mean, my goodness,
(12:31):
eleven million dollars a year for the next eight seasons.
And who would have ever suspected that Indiana would spend
that much in the entire career of an Indiana football
coach of any any sport. Throw it in there. Indiana
could pay all their coaches and it wasn't going to
be eighty eight million dollars. And they're paying their football
coach that much, right.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
You You actually almost wonder it's like did the coach
break something off?
Speaker 2 (12:55):
For all the players they're playing?
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Like, I mean, lights out right now now I'm going
to sit here and act like I know all the
different ins and outs as far as Indiana goes. I
don't even know as far as their schedule goes, so
far and so so on.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
But you brought that up.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
That was on my list of stuff here going, Hey,
are you shocked by that? Clearly you're shocked by Indiana
and how how well they're doing right now.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
They seem to be legit. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Yeah. The big question we had a year ago was
is it sustainable? And you know, time will tell, But
so far, so good, and I don't know how anybody
could criticize what their success has been over there and
how they've accomplished things. I mean, for them to do
what they have done so far this season, I think
(13:39):
is remarkable. And you know, I think we're barreling towards
a storm at the end of the year. That's going
to be Ohio versus Indiana and that should be the
big ten championship game.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Well, tomorrow, the Buck guys play at three thirty. Do
you like the three thirty games as a player? Did
you like that better? Or did you wait a minute
and refresh my memory? You guys, did you have all
noon starts. Were they all mostly late?
Speaker 2 (14:04):
How did that work? When you played.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Well back in the seventies and early eighties, all the
kick costs were at one and you know, the only
game that was any different than that was the early
game against the team up north, and that was always
played at noon. So I think the players they really
enjoy these mid day games as opposed to the night
games on the road or the early morning games. This
(14:28):
is perfect. They can get over there, get a good rest,
get the game done, and get back at a reasonable hour,
and I think that's really positive. Ohio State has a
bye week after this game against Wisconsin. This season has
been divided up in three slices. There were three games
at the beginning of the year, which was our preseason,
and then a bye. We've got four games in a row,
(14:49):
three of which were on the road, then a by.
Then we get those five games at the end of
the season, and that's going to be the determining factor
if Ohio State's going to be able to reach its goals.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Twenty five and a half is the That's what Vegas
has OSU to cover. Do you like them covering tomorrow?
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Oh? Yeah, absolutely, unless weather it gets awful up there
and they're calling for maybe a little bit of rain,
but I think it's going to be perfect. And Ohio
State just cannot participate in their own demise and they
should be fine. And I really feel badly for Luke.
Fickley's a great man, a tough situation. They've had all
kinds of injuries. They've got one of the hardest schedules
in America. After they play Ohio State, Blazer, they get
(15:30):
on an airplane next week and they go to Oregon.
Oh yeah, and they've already played Alabama on the road,
They've already played at Michigan, and they play at Indiana
later on this season. So I don't think Luke will
make it past the Oregon game because they have a
buye after that, and then we'll see what happens. But
(15:51):
there's gonna be some other changes in college football.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
No doubt, you guys will have the best Buckeye pregame
show tomorrow from T and T Equimit correct.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
We will at one o'clock is the start. We should
have a lot of fun, Roy Hall, Bill Connelly, Jeff Logan,
and of course the Major d Matthew McCoy. But here's
the I got a great Hichele game tonight for everybody
to watch on the CW at seven o'clock. I've got
Olin Tangi, which is the home of the new starting
(16:21):
quarterback by the way, at Penn State University, Ethan grunkeemeier Yea,
the name that graduated a couple of years ago. He
is now the starting quarterback at Penn State. He played
at Olin Tangy under Wade Bartholomew, and they will be
on the road to Dublin, Jerome against Mark Crabtree and
his group. Decimated by injuries, but it's going to be
a good occ battle tonight seven o'clock live on the
(16:43):
CW with myself and Martin Banister with the play by play.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Very good. That is awesome, man. Everybody.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Check out Jeff doing the TV stuff tonight and tomorrow
of course the press, the Buckeye pregame show, and then
three point thirty kickoff on CBS tomorrow afternoon as the
Buckeyes are in Wisconsin. LOGI thank you very much for
jumping on with me today. I appreciate it on this
beautiful Friday.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Thank you brother, your welcome and move up a tee.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Okay, move up a tea. I got it.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
And also you're gonna probably say go Bucks too, righte
go Bucks.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Thanks man, I appreciate it.
