Speaker 1 (00:00):
Telephone call we look forward to pretty much every week,

(00:03):
and that is from our own Congressman, Jim Jordan. Jim,
how are you? What's going on? Waitman? I got to push,
I gotta push. I forgot Zach is in there and
he's lazy. He doesn't push buttons off. Pushed the button?
How you doing? Is it is.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
You?

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Is it as hot and muggy and oppressive where you
are as it is here?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Yeah? Because I'm basically here. I'm over in Urbana and
you're you're there in Central Ohio. Oh yeah, it's we're
here in God's Country today, in the Great State of Ohio,
West Central Ohio, God's Country. But yeah, I hope you
had a good weekend.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Yeah, overall, not too bad, not too bad. I did
you see? I don't know how much of a a
social media guy you are, whether you pay much attention
to the tweets and the truth socials and all that
kind of stuff. But there was a h a Twitter,
a white House Twitter with Tom Holman coming up in
the sunrise like it was an opening of Teletubbies. Did
you see that?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
I didn't see, Dear Heavens.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
I don't know who's controlling that but somebody with a
sense of humor is playing with the White House account
on Twitter right now.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, they got some pretty talented folks there, but I
don't know who. I don't know who did that one.
Of course, the President was tweeting all about what he
was going to do, and then he came out this
morning and said, you know, we're gonna do it. He's
gonna he wants to take control of d C because
the crime problem there. I think capitals around the world,
the violent crime in d C is higher than any
other capital. Based on the information I sawt in the

(01:22):
White House or late last week, I think so, yeah,
I agree with the President what he's what he's doing there.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Well is someone who's exposed to it on a fairly
regular basis, having to be down there and uh walking
the streets and so forth. I mean, just on a
personal level, Jim, how do you feel do you do?
I imagine you've got people with you, but can you
can you see you know, the fear, a sense of
fear in the average Joe walking around the streets of
DC more than you used to.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Well, I'll be honest, I don't go out, you know
much where I'm walking the streets. I mean, there are
many weeks where the only ding time on outside is
when I walk from the kind of from the office
building complex there you got cam in Longworth and Rayburn.
I'll walk half a block across over to the Capitol
Hill Club. When you go to vote, I stay underground

(02:11):
those of the tunnel, and then if I'm going anywhere
else in the city, You're going to take a car.
So I just I think I think in some ways
maybe the members don't fully appreciate just how how serious
the crime problem problem is. Now, we did have a
member who I think had their car stolen from them,
and you know the several months back, so you know
there is that. And of course I know we had

(02:32):
a staffer, an intern who lost their lives in Congressman
Estas's office, a great member from Kansas, the young young
person who was there as an intern. U was a
random violence in an area that you wouldn't think what
you would see that. So I do think President Trump
is right. I don't know that that members of Congress
fully appreciated. But think about all the visitors who come
to the capital. We see our great capital, our great history,

(02:55):
who come there, particularly in the spring of the year
during the cherry blossoms. You want to save, you want
exactly what President Trump's talking about. So I think what
he's what he's done here is makes a whole lot
of sense.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
The I mean, just this past week we had a
storage a young man, a member of the Doze team
who intervened a woman was being accosted by I've heard ten,
I've heard twelve men were accosting her on the street
and this young man from the Dose team intervened. He
was out never there was no way he was winning this,

(03:27):
but he got her safely in her car and away
from them before taking his beating. And I guess I'm
a little upset that that's not getting more press that
that this is a he that's a man, that's an
American right there. I'm proud of this kid, I'm proud
of the people that raised him. But it's it's not

(03:48):
getting talked about nearly enough. And in the face of
this basically federalization of the police down there, you would
think the administration would be running that story everywhere they
possibly could.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Yeah, I think the only one is reallyocused on it's
been President Trump and it's and it's I think it
was sort of the last straw for this increasing violence
we've seen in our nation's capital, and why he took
the action he did. Now, my understanding is the way
it works is he gets thirty days to do this,
and he's going to send the justification for this action
to Congress. If we then then pass that or you know,

(04:20):
pass legislation to allow him to go for a longer
period of time would be the next step. And I
think that's probably warranted as well. So we'll just we'll
just wait and see. But you're right, just a brave
young man who stepped in and did what you hope
any young man would do, protecting the young lady. And
obviously he was hurt bad. But that's that's what I

(04:40):
think was sort of, I said, sort of the final,
final thing, final straw for the president decided to take
take the course of action that it took.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Today, this comes before Congress to allow the president to
continue those police powers. Do you does your gut instinct
tell you this is bipartisan or is this going to
be an uphill battle with a bunch of idiots?

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Again, well, based on what Minority Leader Jefferys has said,
I think it'll be partisans. I think it'll be Republicans supported,
and my guess is Democrats probably won't, but we'll wait
and see. I do believe a few months back or whenever,
what was several months ago, maybe when it was a
member of Congress, if I remember correct, it was a
Democrat member of Congress who was the carjacking. He had

(05:19):
the car ticket from and so you know, maybe maybe
we'll get a buy partisan support for this. We'll just
have to wait to.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
See, you know. And I don't wish anything bad on anybody,
but sometimes, Congressman, I just think, you know, what, if
some of your folks would get beaten, robbed, battered, have
their car jacked, have whatever, maybe maybe you take it
a little more seriously. I was hoping, honestly, some good
like that would have come out of the Paul Pelosi story.
I thought, you know, now that you see this is

(05:47):
what the rest of America is worried about, maybe you
can get on board with doing something instead of standing
back and criticizing what we're trying to do.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Yeah, it's unfortunate that everything has to get partisan. The
left always have to go after President Trump, and and
you know, we've talked about it before. But I always say, now,
I don't believe all Democrats are crazy, but I do
believe the left that has I think control of their
party is crazy. And again, you can go issue by issue,
but it's crazy not to have a border. It's crazy

(06:16):
to defund the police. It's crazy to say that there
isn't violent crime when there is and we've seen it
in front of it. It's crazy to have men compete
against women in sports. And you can just you can
just go down the list. But that's the position the left,
the left seems to take. And then the crazy positions
you see from this this guy and this mom Donnie
and in New York City that he's taken. So unfortunately,

(06:39):
it's just like that's today's left, and you know, we gotta,
we gotta where the party is. President Trump says, We're
the Party of common sense. It's common sense to say,
if you can't get to control the violent crime, and
this is the federal jurisdiction, the District of Columbia, then
it's appropriate for the federal government to take over and
make sure we do get control of the streets. And
that's exactly the action that again President Trump is taken.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
When you get back down there, what's first order of business?
Is there a game plan or we in a holding
pattern on anything that you're waiting to get back to.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
The big thing overall will be the funding of the government.
The fiscal year ends on September thirty, so we'll have
to figure out how that's. The appropriations process and the
government funding process is going to work out what that means.
We want to spend at a lower level obviously than
the Democrats and Chuck Schumer want to spend. So that'll
be those negotiations that'll that'll take place, and then we're

(07:27):
going to get a number of issues. The censorship issue
is still big with us. We did a letter today
to the major sports leagues about how expensive and how
complicated it is when you're trying to watch your team play,
whether it's college, and how all that works and pay
per view and broadcast and then the conference networks like
the Big Ten Network and everything else, or professional if

(07:49):
you want to watch do you want the Sunday NFL
Sunday ticket and what that means in markets where there's
a black out there it's so humbersome. And then you
add to it all the NFL is now part owner
of the ESPN, and how does that all work. So
we did a letter today to that's that's get making
some news to all four major professional sports associates sports

(08:09):
sports leagues and asking them to come in and tell
us how how they're doing all this and how it
all fits together. Because the nineteen sixty one Broadcast Act
is just that, it's for broadcasting and it gives it
gives any trust exemption to these these major professional sports leagues.
But that was long before we had the cable and
the streaming and everything else we got. And so I
know a lot of fans, a lot of a lot

(08:30):
of Americans are concerned about how complicated, how expensive it
is just to watch your key.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Yeah, and it's I was actually doing that over the weekend,
putting my calendar together for the Buckeye games that we
know about and the Bengal games that we know about.
And you know, I'd almost like to see the idea
of an NC double, a stream where I can go
in there and a la carte whatever. Yeah, I want,
because at this point, I got to subscribe to Peacock,
I got to subscribe to Big Ten, I got to

(08:56):
subscribe to a cable system that will carry ESPN, and
then I got a couple of over the year games
just for the Bible. Guys. That's that's nice.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
It is and it's driving people. It's driving fans crazy
because and it's it's more just figuring it out, how
complicated it is and how do you navigate to all
that sometimes than it is even the cost, but the
cost gets Like I think Klayton Travis tweeted about this,
I think to watch if you want to watch your
team every game with the NFL Sundy tickets, it's like

(09:25):
over a thousand bucks a year just to watch them.
So that's that's that seems a little ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Hey, speaking of football, would you think of that seventy
yard field goal?

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Did you see I just saw the highlight of it.
I saw the highlight of it, and uh, that's I mean,
that's a long kick.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Sason, it doesn't count. That's a shame.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Yeah, a long kick. I still remember the days Tom Dempsey,
way back when the sixty three yarder. When I was
a kid, Tom Dempsey is everyone talked about no one
will kick one that far. Now they're doing it all
the time.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
I know we're headed in the football season. I was
just telling Zach about an hour ago that today's anniversary
of Babe Bru hitting a five hundred home run.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Wow, you didn't know that.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
Nineteen twenty nine on this date he hit five hundred.
You know, I'm hoping for positivity. I heard you mentioned
a little while ago we had to fund the government
the end of the fiscal year September thirty. I got
to ask you, I mean, is there is there a
budget possibility here or am I going to have to
choke down another continuing resolution? Or what what kind of

(10:24):
course are we on with this?

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Yeah, it's it's hard to say. I think that there
is a there is maybe a decent likelihood that it
will be some kind of continuing resolution, but we prefer
not to do that. But I will say continuing resolutions
if they stay as a continued resolution where you spend
at the current level, those typically save money because government
historically spends more and more each year. But yeah, we'd

(10:49):
much prefer to do the appropriations process and work through
each of the twelve bills. We've passed several out of
the House. The Senate I don't think has passed any
which has sort of become par for the course here.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
In the last several of years, we've got all this
stuff coming out. One of my buddies from I've known
him since high school, and he will point out, I'm
a Republican, but if it's anti Trump, he'll be happy
to share it on social media. And one of the
things he did this past week was that five hundred
and fifty billion dollars from Japan, only one to two
percent of it's going to be in the form of
actual money. The rest will be in loans. And I

(11:21):
had to get on in response. You know that the
meme does not tell the story. Those loans are not
to this country. Those loans are to other countries that
want to bring their business and production to our country.
Japan's going to fund them like this Taiwanese chip maker.
This is a big deal. Japan gets their interest back
on the money, we get these corporations creating, building, and

(11:43):
employing in our country. It's a win win for everybody.
And why you can't see that is beyond me.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Yeah, no, I mean, look, everyone knows this. This first
seven months has been pretty darn amazing. When you think
about where we were. A border is now secure, tax
cuts are in place, more investment in making sure the
border stay secure than and than ever in American history,
school choice for Americans, no more men and women in sports.
I mean, you can just go down the list. You've
got the fact that Iran no longer has their nuclear capability,

(12:11):
got NATO countries kicking in more of their uh of
their quote fair share to help help in the NATO defense,
something President Trump had emphasized and actually got accomplished. You
can just keep going down the list. It's and revenue
coming into the treasury is up for goodness sake. So
it's been a pretty good, darn darn good seven months
under President Trump. But you always got some people who

(12:32):
see the glasses as half empty all the time, particularly
when they got Trump arrangements.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Absolutely and fill in the gas tank getting hurt this weekend,
either by Galla exactly, Congressman Jim Jordan. Next time you're
in town, you've got to stop by here. We would
have such a wonderful conversation.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
Yeah, well, we'll have fun in the in the in
the studio there. Take care of chuck your.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Well, we'll see it all right. Tell everybody in our band.
I said, hey to both of them. Urbana is a
lovely town. It really is. Congressman Jim Jordan there
