Speaker 1 (00:00):
The bad news unfortunately continues as that helicopter crashed into
the Hudson yesterday and Luke Barr ABC News law enforcement
reporters joining us now. So, Luke, what is the very
latest on this?
Speaker 2 (00:11):
So sad, it really is. So investigation is underway into
that helicopter Cress, as you mentioned, that killed six people,
the pilot and the family of Spanish tourists when the
chopper plunged into the Hudson River between New York City
and New Jersey on Thursday. Right now, we know a
wreckage exam is underway. The helicopter's engine and other components
have been pulled off the wreckage to be closely examined.
(00:32):
According to the National Transfer Safety Board chairwoman, and she
said this at a news conference today, they're looking specificent
to recover other pieces of the helicopters, putting the main
road or the main transmission and the roof structure. And
it's just a really sad situation there in New York tist.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
I saw some of There was a boat that clearly
had some diver. The divers were in the water and
the boat was right there near it and you could see,
I don't know what they're called the feet or the skids,
the whatever it lands on or sits on when it's
you know, parked or what have you. And they were
up out of the water. I mean, it was upside
down when they were but you know, and that video
(01:13):
is circulating, Luke, I'm sure you know, and it basically
it looked like the tail was gone, that had snapped off,
and then of course that main road or the top
rotor and the thing was just free falling through the
air into the water and it just looked like, you know,
the main part of the fuselage, but then the rear
of it, that whole tail had snapped off, and again
(01:33):
the road. There's also a video of that flying through
the air as well. It's incredibly odd the way this
whole thing is played out.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Well, and that's exactly and actually, you know, believe it
or not, head of the NTSP actually asked the publicist
in any votos, photos, excuse me, or videos that they
have the crash, because you know, if you look at
just some of the pictures that have been circulating online,
you know, they've been pulling up just of the of
the helicopter. So I think this is one of the
(02:03):
main things that the NTFP is going to get try
and get to the bottom of is is you know, Okay,
how did this happen when when you just saw all
these pieces of the helicopter, it'll just plunge directly into
the HUDET number. It's kind of an unbelievable you know
video that's circulating him.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah, no question, so said ABC News law enforcement reporter
Luke Barr. Luke, thank you very much, appreciate this. All right,
we'll see you and you're going.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
To get to the bottom of this.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Well, you you indicated that there was he had radioed
about being out a guest.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Well the report say that he had radio said he
was low on fuel. The pilot was low on fuel.
So the way it dropped from the sky, that looks
like a possibility. But as you pointed off, losing the
tail and the tail rotor structurally makes no sense. We
got to figure it out, but we got to figure
it out for you all the conspiracy crap. After you
(02:58):
told me what you were reading, I had to go
and start looking at some stuff.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Did you see it?
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Shut up, stop being stupid. You know the whole family
is dead. Just have some decency about you and quit
speculating all that garbage.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
A couple of other things too. The pilot has yet
to be identified, according to this article that I was
looking at, so they haven't even given his name yet.
They said the sight seeing place where this chopper is from,
that they have not stopped crying there. There was one
quote that I saw that somebody that worked there said
(03:31):
they had not stopped crying, clearly because they love this
pilot who was thirty six years old. The eight year
old's birthday is today. That was on board, so, you know,
one day before his birthday, and the sight seeing tour
was part of the celebration of the wife's fortieth birthday.
(03:51):
So just kind of some backstuff, as if this whole
thing wasn't so sad already, then you start throwing that
stuff into the mix, and it's just like, oh my gosh, yeah,
really really really unfortunate question.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Yeah, it's a very sad story. And I, like I said,
we've got to get to uh, we got to get
to the real answers as to what happened with this thing.
But as I told you yesterday, I'm sure you could
see my frustration. Everybody wanting to be first. Yeah, and
you know, you had one killed, you had three killed,
you had everybody killed. Yet first doesn't matter in a
(04:24):
case like this, right is way more important. So everybody,
you know, chill for a while and let them do
their investigating and let's get the answers.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
And when you see video of that too, you go,
how could anybody have survived that?
Speaker 3 (04:37):
You know?
Speaker 1 (04:38):
You and if they would have, it would have just
been a flat and miracle. But that's the very latest
on that helicopter crash that crashed into the Hudson yesterday
