Speaker 1 (00:00):
Mark Blazer, Chuck Douglas, Mark Sutherland in studio. You may
know him as if you're one of those people that
was around Mark Olsen or gosh, you've had a couple
of different names as far as radio goes, but you're
an old radio guy at heart. But he started here
in Columbus, Yeah, for sure. And he is creator of

(00:20):
Abbey's List, a dogumentary, and it is in theaters this
weekend on Friday, it starts at AMC. And you've been well,
you said eight years you've worked on this.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah, it's taken eight years, and this is like the
culmination of that. AMC just picked it up for select
theaters all across the country, which is just unheard of
for an indie film.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
So I'm just so grateful.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
And then to be back in Columbus now and be
able to share that at AMC theaters at Dublin and
Easton here in Columbus to then my movie right.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
And then Thursday you have a special screening.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Doing a special screening at Dublin Village Theater there at
six o'clock, we're going to play the film for everybody
before the rest of the country gets to see it,
because nobody ever does that in Columbus, And I'm showing
my film first here in Columbus, and then it'll launch the.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Next day Friday, to the rest of the world, but
six o'clock.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
If you want tickets, you can go to AMC Theaters
dot com and pick up tickets for the early show
at six o'clock on Thursday or when the world the
rest of the world starts to see it on Friday.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
What is Abby's List? A documentary? What is it?

Speaker 4 (01:27):
Mark?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
I spent three years traveling the country with my dog
doing her bucket list, and her bucket list, let's be honest,
is actually mine.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
You know. She was sick right well, she I'd lost
to other whippets at thirteen.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
She was fourteen, and I could tell she was slowing
down fast, right, So she was okay. So I wanted
to do something special while she still could. And then
we watched her age in reverse. We were going to
do three three weeks, starting with her pause in the
in the ocean, in the Pacific Ocean on the West coast.
We were going to start that way and end three
weeks later with her in the Atlantic Ocean. Just travel

(02:01):
a country doing fun stuff. And she started aging in
reverse in three weeks became three years Vegas.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Oh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
In fact, they comped us a whales suite, a three
thousand dollars a night sweet, because it's not enough just
for a dog to do room.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Service in Vegas. They got to get the best suite.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
I've seen it. It's so cool that it's just from
top to bottom. It's cool. And uh, man, if you
love dogs, which I know so many people do, and
it you'll fall in love with her in this movie.
It is uh, it's really special. It's really special. The
bond is special between you and her.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
We had a good time.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Yeah, it was tough to let her go because it's basically,
whether it's a dog or a person, she's my best friend. Yeah,
And who gets to do that. Look, I'm in my
fifties now. Who gets to in their fifties go you
know what, I'm going to travel the country with my
dog for a couple of years.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Okay, I'll talk to you later.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Nobody gets to do that and then turn it into
something like this. You know him as the voice for
Walt Disney's Goofy and he's Bill Farmer joining us now,
and Hey, Bill, welcome to the Mark Blazer Show for
the first time. It's fantastic to have you on. Thanks
for jumping on with us.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
Well, I'm glad to be here. And it sounds like
fun weather up there in Ohio. I'm on a sunny
day here in southern California, and a Goofy would say,
it's a great dog day. Perfect.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
So Mark, talk about your relationship with Bill and then
having him be in the film, and.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
We love you know.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
We wanted to do over the top things in the film,
and so I thought it'd be fun if Abby had
a chance to meet the most famous dog in the world.
And what dog is more famous worldwide than Goofy, who
for the last thirty five or thirty five plus years
has been Bill Farmer. Every time you've heard the voice
of Goofy, it's been Bill. So I got Abby and

(03:56):
Bill in the same room and Bill and I shot
an interview and then Bill did the voice, and we
shot Abby's reaction and she couldn't have cared less, which to.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Me was hilarious. Hilarious.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
So that's in the movie, and that's why Bill. Bill's
a good friend and decided he trusted me in my
idiocy that it would that it was and it did
so thank you Bill.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Of course, Bill, take me, take me through.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
When Mark asked you to do this, were you like,
say what now?

Speaker 4 (04:27):
Like? What? Like? No? No, I knew Abby and anything
for dogs. I have a dog life. I do Goofy
and Pluto, another famous dog. And I had a dog
show called A Dog Show It's a Dog's Life with
Bill Farmer on Disney Plus for three years. So a
live action dogs, animated dogs, it doesn't matter. I love

(04:50):
them all. And of course I was thrilled when Mark
asked me to make an appearance in the film.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
That's awesome. What are you doing these days?

Speaker 5 (04:57):
Now?

Speaker 4 (04:58):
Oh my gosh, this has been the craziest week and
month and year that I've ever had. Bill has multiple
movies now thirty eight years. Yeah, the A Goofy movie
just hit his thirtieth anniversary, and so I was at
various comic cons this last weekend in Denver, the weekend
before in Portland, Maine. More things coming up. I'm going

(05:22):
to be going to the can Film Festival in France
next month. I mean, there's a bunch of stuff that
we're doing. Now.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
If you ran Bill's IMDb page, it's like forty pages long.
Bill has done so many voices in part of so
many TV shows and films.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
It's just unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
That's cool and so yeah, it's just been a crazy
year and I'm right in the middle of it. I
should be retired, but not, it's too fun.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Well, and that's the other thing too. Chuck was even saying,
who's here in the studio? He's said, Man, to be
a voice like that.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
Was living my dream. I know that Mark and I
were in broadcasting school thirty five years ago. I wanted
to do a morning show with him. I wanted to
do movie trailers, and I wanted to be a cartoon voice.

Speaker 4 (06:05):
That the Oh well, I've done radio shows with Mark.
I started off as a DJ and a chief an
engineer at several stations and along the way, Yes, a
lot of radio. It's a lot of fun. So now
I'm just kind of getting to put on the dog
outfit from time to time.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
I have to share this too. Yes, Bill's first audition.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
When he moved to LA and he was a radio
guy and he decided to move to LA and try
to get into the business. His first audition was for
Goofy and he got Wow.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
Wow, oh yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
I had no idea how much stupidity was bliss with me.
I had no idea how many people were trying out.
I understand over a thousand, and they liked mine. And
so since January of eighty seven, I've been the voice
when you will doing it to this day.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Bill, when you left that audition, did you go got it,
nailed it? Or did you leave and go or were
you like I have no chance.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
I just went to my agent. I, you know, got
a cassette of the original voice of Goofy that goes
back to the nineteen thirties. Did my best impression of that,
and I guess it was good enough.

Speaker 5 (07:10):
I gotta know, because you said you're also Pluto, and
it's occurring to me. I don't even know what Pluto
sounds like. I don't put a voice with it.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
It's he doesn't talk, So it's what you know, it's
a dog, Okay. I get to bark like a dog.
But I can do it in all languages. So that's not.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
Good to the can film.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
But you know, and for years, whenever they they need
an impression, for years they called Bill to be on
like the Tonight Show, to do voices for stuff and
the rest of it.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
I have done that. Yes, man, that's so cool.

Speaker 5 (07:42):
I bark at my house and my chiualla looks over many. Hey, hey,
that's mine.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Yeah, I'm the only one here. What do you do?
That's that's fantastic. Bill Farmer, who is, among other things,
best known for the the voice of Goofy Walt Disney
of course, and Bill, thank you so much. We're out
of time, and I'm sorry to uh to make it
so fast because there's a million things we could keep
talking about, but it sounds like you're really busy too.
But yeah, thank you so much for joining us. And

(08:09):
it's really cool your your part in the film and
Abby's list is really really it's heartwarming man to watch,
really it is.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
It's a great film. I'm so proud of Mark getting
it this far and I know people are gonna love it.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Thanks, thanks for being in the in the film. Bill,
and I didn't pay him anything either.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
So no, you owe me a bourbon.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
I guess that's easy. Yeah, And that's the mark of
a true friend when you do that for free.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
And because that pays off for me too, he's not
going to drink alone.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Yeah, awesome. Bill.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
Thank you so much, my pleasure.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
