Speaker 1 (00:00):
Mark Blazer and Zach Attack is with me obviously as always.
What's interesting is he comes in today. And I told Zach,
I even said, you go, please tell me you did
not you did not come in yesterday because we clearly
were not on the air, but you had sent me
a note and said, hey, am I crazy?
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Or are we all? And I told my wife, I,
I don't know we were all. We were going to.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Top Golf yesterday and I said, oh my gosh, I
think Zach went to the radio station.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
And she's like what, And I go, oh, man, I
please tell me he didn't drive all the way in
and be like dah.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
It was one of those I knew we were off.
I knew it. But I looked at my because it's Monday,
I'm you said, certain times of the day it's ready
and coming in and I don't have to get wait
a minute, do we have to Let me tell okay,
let me figure out. I know it was ten minutes
of panic there.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Yeah, I texted you, well, I'm happy that you you know,
you obviously did not end up in here.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
I'm just a strong believer.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
If I came in we would be off. But if
I didn't come in and didn't text you, then we're
going we would have been.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
On Zach, Where are you dude? Yeah, yeah, exactly. He's
part of our best Buckeye coverage.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
It is Roy Hall who's joining us now, and Roy,
welcome again to the Mark Blazer Show.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
How you doing man, man, I'm I'm excited. Man, I'm
excited to be here on the show. I always love
talking to you. We guys, Zach here, Chuck not there.
So I'm holding it down for the brothers, just not
on the show right now. You got to have diversity. Yeah,
so I'm the guy that steals that void.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Man. Number one. We made it to number one, but
some people now, you know, and.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
This is pretty fresh off the press, if you will,
and you know, beating Texas on Saturday, and we'll get
into that here in a second, but you know, fourteen
to seven, everybody knows in this area. The Buckeyes ended
up winning huge game. We're number three there, number one,
we beat him, and then there.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Was all the speculation where will the buck Eyes end up?
Speaker 1 (01:59):
And I you know, I used to be one of
those guys that I'm like, give us our due, we
need to be number one. But I'm also one of
those guys that I like kind of just you know,
kind of plodding along during the season. You know, when
you're on top of the heap. It seems like people try.
We already have a we know how it goes. We
have a cross hair, you know, we have cross hairs
(02:19):
on us. Anyway, every we get everybody's best game, if
you will. But now we get extra best game from
everybody when we go to number one. But your thoughts
on that, I mean, I feel like it's well deserved.
But then there are people in the college football world
that are like, they don't deserve that, and they start,
you know, I don't know, extrapulateing the numbers and all
that stuff that I don't really even understand.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
First of all, did you just say extrapulate? Yeah, I
bet you fight all is You're not gonna be spelled
right now, right now on the spot extrapulate.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
It's h e x t are pulate.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Hey, listen, that's how That's exactly how I feel about
the Ohio state ranking at number one. If you can
use it in the sentence, then you deserve to be
able to use the word, if you use it the
right way. If you can go out and dominate the
number one and put that in a sentence, we beat
number one, you deserve to be number one. And so
(03:24):
I'm okay with the number one ranking. Once you win
the national title, you're always number one in everyone's eyes,
whether you ranked three, or you ranked eight or you
rate ten. When you win a national title, people know
that it's making a statement when you go in and
do that. And so like, we deserve the ranking. I mean,
you hold that team basically the zero points until the
last three minutes of the fourth quarter, almost pitched the shutout.
(03:47):
You did it in dominant four defensively. And so when
you look at college football as as a fool, as
a whole on the entire landscape, you look at LSU, Miami,
Notre Dame Georgia, you look at some of the other
top teams in Ohio State was the only one to
beat the number one team in the nation and do
it rather convincingly in my opinion. So you know, I'm
(04:09):
not a huge Arch Manning fan. I'm a Peyton Manning fan.
I played with his uncle. But you know Arch is cool, right,
So he got a cool name. He's the number three
arch in the United States right now. A little bit
behind the Gateway Arch in Saint Louis, but definitely falling
in behind the real number one, which is the Golden
(04:30):
Arch McDonald's. And there's no one that could take them
down no matter where you are.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
I was gonna say, let's start with Texas and what
they did, I mean, is it you know a lot
of hype. We know the lineage, we know it's Cooper's son,
and you know, and all of those things. We know
all of the things about you know, the Mannings and
arch Man, and as far as what we witnessed, I
don't know if that's he was kind of having a
(04:57):
bad day. He was having a bad day, but it
was probably because well, we stopped him four separate times.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
I believe on fourth down. I believe I saw that.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
There's something like that, and one was on the goal line,
and you know, he just had a bad day. But
I think it was because our defense is like mid
season form already. I mean, it was incredible watching our defense.
Patricia was he was drawing up like the schemes and
I mean, it was, it was.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
It was. There was a clinic man on Saturday.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Don't you think, Well, I'm gonna give you a couple
of things because I want to vent for a second
my brother. So I went to Chipole recently, man, and
I love you know, I love a good lunch. I
love a good tiffing is what they called it in
the early nineteenth century. Tiffin. It means a little lunch,
you know, Little Tiffin went too for a little Tiffin.
(05:47):
And I'm standing in line, and you get behind these
people who ordered for the whole floor, their whole office, Like,
who are these people? Center? Go gets your all order?
How did you get stuck with nineteen orders before me?
Blaze nineteen orders? So I'm sitting behind. I gotta wait.
I can't get through, I can't get beyond it. I
(06:09):
gotta just wait. There's nothing I can do, no matter what.
I can't get a discount. I can't go in front
of him because he's already ordering. They got the whole
staff trying to figure out a way to make this
man's order because he's backing up the freaking line. And
that's exactly what Matt Patricia did to that Texas offense,
Like there was nothing they could do, know where they
can go? They just had to wait. They had to
(06:31):
take it. They had to deal with it because there's
nothing that they can do. No matter what. There was
people coming from everywhere. Like I said, there's people coming
from everywhere. Arts didn't know what to do with the look.
We thought Caleb Downs was in the box. Next thing
you know, he's running back to the deep third. Next
thing you know, he's all over the place. So what
he's done is he's put these offenses in the Texas offense. Well,
(06:52):
we know Gramley State's not coming to do anything. I'm
looking forward to their band, but like we know that
he's gonna put offenses in the situation, in a situation
where they're gonna be confused. They're just gonna have to
wait it out, man, and try and figure it out.
And maybe by the fourth quarter and a third with
three minutes left, they'll figure out a way to score
a touchdown. But that's what he's doing right now. He's
hogging up the space. He's taking up the space and
(07:15):
not allowing them to do what they came to do,
which is awesome. By the way, I did see that
you can buy a twelve pack of yellow pencils for
five ninety nine on Amazon dot com. So if you
want to put a pencil in your ear to be
like Matt Patricia. You can go ahead and do that
ninety nine on Amazon.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Yeah, I'm gonna do that for Halloween and grow you got.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
I gotta get started, though, because that's quite a beard
he's got, So I gotta get started if I'm gonna
try to catch up to that beard and then the pencil.
And that's why I'll.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Be for Halloween. I'll be the defensive coordinator.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
And boy, it's just like I wanted to kiss him
man Like during the game, I was like.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Welcome in. I love you already.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
And certainly we know how fickle football fans are, especially
in this area of the country, but boy, was that
an amazing first test. And did they stand up? And
I get it, he can draw up the best of
the best. But man, we got the we got the
personnel on the field. Now let's flip to the offensive side.
I mean, with Julians saying and everything that happened, you know,
(08:14):
we saw a couple drops from Jeremiah. We know there
was a couple drops there. I don't know if those
are bad past you have the trained eye. I just
know that they didn't end up necessarily in his hands
for a catch. Every you know there were a few
times that he was thrown to or whatever, But what
is your grade card on the offensive side of the ball.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
From Saturday, I.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Think we played a little bit conservative and for good reason.
Not conservative because we should have been more aggressive, but
conservative and understanding what we just talked about for the
last couple of minutes about Matt Patricon's defense, There's no
reason to take a bunch of risks against the team
that has the capability of putting up the ball and
scoring when they get on a roll and get on
a run. Whenever you got Steve Starkeysan on the other side,
(08:55):
you know that they can put up points. They respect
each other, and I believe coach Day coached that game
as you would coach a championship game. We didn't turn
the ball over or we made big plays when we
needed to. We ran the football decently. They beat us
in the rushing game yards per carry on yards per rush,
but we still were able to get first downs when
we needed to. And I think he didn't want to
(09:16):
put Julian sand in situation where he was praying up praying,
Well maybe he was, but right where he was pressing
and making plays and so I thought it was a
good game plan. Whenever your defense is playing that well.
It kind of felt like a coach trestle game where
you don't play to lose the game. You make sure
you play the field position well. You punt the ball,
(09:36):
you kick the ball, you do what you need to do,
and I was okay with it. Those drops by Jeremiah Smith,
I'm not necessarily concerned with those are Hey man, these
are routine catches for me. You know, every once in
a while when you're driving on the highway, you click
on your blinker and you get over and you're like,
oh my gosh, the car right there, they blow their
horn at you, throw up the middle finger at you. You're like,
I'm sorry, man, I see you over there. I didn't
(09:59):
do it on per business try to scare you. But
it's because you just get so used to driving and
switching lanes maybe occasionally you don't check that blind spot.
And so that was just like a blind spot moment
in my opinion for Jeremiah, where it's like, I'm so
used to doing this is so easy for me. I
took my eye off the ball. If you see it
consistently and routinely over three or four games, then all
(10:20):
of a sudden, you want to be concerned. My biggest
concern for Jeremiah is last year he was unexpected. We
knew he was going to be a good freshman. We
didn't know he was gonna have thirteen hundred yards and
fifteen plus touchdowns in his freshman year. But now when
you roll into this year, when all eyes are on
you number One calling you a Heisman favorite, then turn around,
we know that you're probably making some millions, or on
(10:41):
top of millions, on top of millions, you're in ads
across the board with Travis Kelce and you're doing all
these things in the off season. Now all eyes are
on you and you're expected to be great like day
in and day out, and that's a different type of pressure.
Then they didn't know what they saw coming. So everybody
knows that they're going to try and take him away.
But we'll see how he performs over time. I know
(11:03):
he's going to get back on track.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
All right, Where did you Let's talk food a little bit.
Where did you watch the game Saturday? And what did
you eat?
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Man?
Speaker 4 (11:10):
Let me tell you man, just because I'm a commitment,
I'm a man of my words, yes, and so I
you know, I coached high school football Friday nights with
can Handle Lincoln, but I also held with the JV
on Saturday. So the whole first quarter I was watching
the game slash coaching on the sideline, So we had
everybody on the sideline, everybody in the stands, and I
(11:31):
think the whole game stopped just when kickoff started, like,
hey man, we's to score the game. So the first
quarter game I spent watching JV football, playing playing jvfore
coaching JV football, and then I came home watched it
on my couch, and I did have an opportunity to
speak to the team Friday night though, after team meal,
which was really really awesome and always an honor to
be able to do that.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
That's fun, man, that is fun. Uh Gramblane State. It's
three thirty Big ten Network. And like you said, you
you are interested to see their band. I think it's
for what you said earlier.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
Hey man, you know these HBCUs coming in man, like
you gotta be happy about that. Man, You all these
black people coming in town with playing playing loud music
and with the bands and dance, and they gonna get
best dam band A run for their money. Uh, in
that stadium, they may be careful, man, They better be
ready to go with Grandma State.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
You know.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
They better do the tissi roll some type of Yeah,
they better put best damn band in land. Better play
the wobble or something like they do with the weddings,
and so some competition out there. Man, doing the wobble
in the middle of the thing on the bock, it'd
be absolutely incredible.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
Well maybe they will now if they heard you say it, maybe.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
They'll work it in and they're not doing It'll be
they won't be doing that now now.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
I don't even see the h There isn't even a
spread yet.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
I don't think for the game. I I that's just
going to be double digits for the Buckeyes as first.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Are you kidding it shouldn't be a spread.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Thirty eight one fifty thirty eight fifty eight. I don't
know something. We'll obviously be keeping an eye on it
or what have you.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
But Roy Hall, who is part of our best Buckeye coverage, Man,
you are spot on as always at what a great
assessment of the game. I love everything you said. I
agree one hundred percent with all of it as well.
And I look forward to having you on many more
times this season. I really appreciate you taking a few
minutes with us today.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Brother.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
I appreciate your brother. And to the guy that was
in front of me order in Chipotle, don't be selfish again.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Yeah exactly, Roy Hall, thank you man. Appreciate you. See
yea
