Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, a guy named James Brown, not that James Brown,
a different James Brown, a twenty six year old from UK.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Well, that's what I was thinking of.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Oh okay, it is that James Brown. What he was
thinking of. Yeah, I don't know how good he felt.
See what I did there? I saw that about this.
But he loved firefighters so much that he set his
own house on fire twice in one night.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Aren't your kind? Aren't you kind?

Speaker 1 (00:26):
He wanted to watch him in action, so unlike most
arsonists who like fire, he was just obsessed with the
firefighters themselves, not the flames. And his lawyer said, he
feels very sorry and he's getting helped to stop his fixation.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
That's sad.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
I mean, uh, there are a lot of cute firefighters.
I'm trying to figure out the motive behind it.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Was it they're cute or he just liked to watch
people doing the act of fighting fire.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
He liked to watch them in action. This is what
it says here. Hmmm, twice in one night. You know,
I have you ever been on you know where you
do like ride alongs with them or whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Not with the fire department. I've done it with police.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Yeah I did it with the EMS, and I didn't. Actually,
I wasn't in any of the fire the vehicles, like
the fire truck, but I did do once upon a
time some ride alongs with the MS, and they said
they will get multiple calls in a week from particular

(01:35):
women who fancy them a specific guys to the point
where they know their schedules and so they'll call on
specific days knowing that their dude is working, so they'll
they'll call and there'll be something where they need one
that I remember particularly, she was a large woman and

(01:58):
she would fall and her husband, who lived with her
obviously was also pretty old and was unable to help
her up because she was big. So that would happen
conveniently when one particular EMS worker was working, she had
a thing for him. Wow, And he told me.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
She probably just used the phone zact.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah, she didn't. She didn't summons him with her trunk.
That's sad, honestly, he told he he uh, I know
for a fact that she would wear those big are
they called mumus, like the big just nightgownish kind of
thing right, and not have any drawls on. Yeah. So

(02:52):
and it was like, whoops, you know that be getting
helped up whoops, and then whoa in front of everybody.
So I was like, wow, this is crazy. I don't
think this guy was doing that. He just liked them,
he liked to watch them fight fires. I don't think
it was anything like that.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
It's just weird.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
But those are truth. That's a true story.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
About your own house on fire.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
That is bizarre. Yeah, he gets I mean, are you
you can set your own house on fire? Can't you?
As long as you're not endangering your neighbors.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Probably legally could set your own stuff on fire. I'm
sure you get a bill from the city for the
emergency equipment response.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Ah, but you can't file insurance.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
How these right?

Speaker 1 (03:34):
You know? But I don't know if it's in Is
it really illegal to just set your house on fire?

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Trying to defraud? And he want if you want to
burn your own stuff up, I guess that's up to you.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
It's crazy. I was like, hey, if the guy wants
to set his house on fire, but you're right, you
would probably get a bill from the city going, hey,
you know, our guys are going to help, and certainly
that could turn into a bad thing where he really
would need help. But yeah, very bizarre.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
I saw an episode of one at twelve years ago
like that. I remember that woman was getting she would
get her as she was calling about prowlers every time
Read and Maloya were out on patrol.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
The guy's gotta come and help me.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Just wanted to see just wanted to see him dance
on distress. Yeah, still single.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Steve Osmond is the owner of flower Rama who's joining
us right now. Have you ever heard such anan against
Steve that we were just talking about.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
I was listening and I kind of got to thinking,
I've been I've been in the flower business thirty five
years and occasionally I'll have to take deliveries and I'm
kind of bummed by your story because I've never been
I've never had anybody request that I take their delivery
that one time, So it kind of bumms me out.
If it's a long run to go without a single request,

(04:48):
I don't care. Who is, Like nobody's ever Hey, can
I have that really hot flory? Never happened to put
that on the list of never things that never happened
to me.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Listen, if you're listening right now and you happen to
use flower Rama, request Steve Osmond to deliver your you
saw the movie lover Boy. If they request extra anchovies, dude,
you're on. Your wife might have something to say about it,
but whatever.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Hell almost, Steve, Welcome to my home. Bring the flowers inside, please.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Oh god. So we'll find out how much traffic we
get on it.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
You might.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
I'm gonna get a lot of phone calls from my buddy.
Is what's gonna happen?

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Yeah, you might.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Man, you better want anybody who wants to harass you
must order flowers first.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
That's a good point. Good point, Chuck. Thanks for having
me on, guys.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Yeah, absolutely, brother, thank you for jumping on with us.
And we had you on once before when all this
tariff stuff started, and clearly here we are, whatever several
weeks later, I think month and a half later or
whatever it's been, and certainly some of this has begun
to manifest. But we're hearing with for instance, I am
a the I'm in the automobile market right now because

(06:03):
Josephine was driving my Saturn, which officially died, so now
we're trying to get something figured out for her as
a result, I mean, you know, looking around and talking
to well, I gotta tell you that tariff talk I
did here at one dealership where they said, listen, what's
on the lot now is not going to be slapped

(06:23):
with any of that. But the stuff that's coming here,
that's being assembled, that will end up being here sooner
rather than later. The same car that you're looking at
right now, Blazer, will be three two, three four, five
thousand dollars more once it gets here. And I said, oh,
because you're gonna get there'll be more stuff, or no,

(06:45):
it'll be the same car, the same equipment, so on
and so forth. But they're talking about that. So here's
the thing I I And that may have been a
tactic to hey, we got to move this along. Let's
try to add some urgency to this. Let's get him
to sign right now. You know, I don't know if
that was a ploy. And we know that that's out
there and it's moving around. Have you heard anybody specifically

(07:06):
say because of tariffs, I had to pay plulu.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
No, not yet. I'm waiting for the cost of used
cars to go up because people aren't going to want
to pay the increased new car price, so used cars
will probably go up.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Yeah, you think it'll be kind of COVID issue with
regard to that where they start wanted to take them
in or whatever.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
What is it with with the flowers and stuff though,
I'm just sitting here thinking what this time of year,
it's still early in the growing season in the Midwest, Steve,
Where does everything pretty much come from south of the
border right now?

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Well, I mean you're talking about the flowers. Most of
the flowers are coming from either South America or Mexico.
And that doesn't have anything to do with Americans or not.
It's more of the weather patterns than the amount of
daylight they get in the growing period and things along
those lines. So you just you just get a better, bigger,
better product when you're when you're buying out of out

(07:59):
of certain regions of the world. It just it's just
far more productive now when it comes to the containers
and you know, glue and supplies, a lot of that
stuff is coming from all over the all over the world,
and so a lot of it's coming from you know,
the Asian area, and uh, you know, there's definitely a
better impact. I mean, we've we've felt a you know,

(08:22):
an increase in our in our in our cost structure
for some of the product that we're bringing in and
you know, so the reality is is, yeah, if we're
having an impact, we we we on our bottom line,
we'll feel it.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Would you say it's a balanced steve of the packaging
and the stuff that you use to make it look
all pretty in addition to the very pretty flower. I mean,
would you say it is a it's it's kind of
in tandem with that stuff with regard to the tariffs
or the price hike, which by the way, you're not
passing on, which is one of the reasons I thought

(08:58):
it was fantastic. I'm like, we we got to make
sure people know that with Mother's Day coming up, obviously,
flower rama is a perfect option for I mean, flowers
never go out of style, clearly, and moms always love flowers.
But would you say it's just kind of a combination
of both as far as the things that you get
a price, I mean.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
It's it's a combination of both, and we are feeling
the impact. And as you point out, no, we're not
passing it through. We're I look at it as what
I believe is a is a short term burp in
the system, and I believe that that will be the case.
And you know, and tell until it manifests itself as
a permitive increase or a permanent bottom line impact. I'm

(09:42):
I'm wanting to whether it. You know, as I said
the last time. You know, we've been in business in
Columbus for thirty five years. We've had a lot of
loyal customers, and I don't know about you. I've still
got my mom and my dad in my life, and
I feel very, very lucky and fortunate, and I don't
want I don't want to pass this bump for a
couple of reasons, but I want everybody to, you know,

(10:03):
to have a feeling of being able to reach out
to their mom and dad and not have the impact
of this hitting them. We'll figure it out what'll dollar
cost average or over the entire year, and hopefully it'll
just go away and and or you know, balance itself
out eventually. Of course, if it's a permanent cost, you know,
we've got to we've got to be responsible caretakers of
our business and and we may have to make some adjustments,

(10:25):
but right now we're not. We're not passing any of
that tariff stuff through to the consumer. And my gosh,
happy Mother's Day. You guys still have your mom's Oh.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
Yeah, yeah, I absolutely I'm with you. My mom, my dad.
My dad just celebrated on the fifteenth of April his
eighty third birthday. So yeah, man, fantastic. I know. Yeah,
it's really really really cool. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
So I want to just point out one more thing.
I'm not sure on the whole thing. You know, I'm
a big fan of uh, you know, of what's happening
and right now, and I believe that Trump right now
is you know, there's a lot of talk about, oh
my gosh, he's doing this wrong or do it and
I'm like, you know, he's not. He's not governing for
you know, this week, or this month, or even you know,

(11:11):
maybe even not even this yearies He's governing for his
legacy at this point. He's trying. He wants to go
down as the greatest president of all time, you know,
And I think the moves that he's making are are
long term moves. They're going to have a long term
impact on all of society in terms of you know,
cleaning up government efficiency. That's going to be a long
term All the things that he's doing that have some

(11:32):
pain that come with it, certainly, but these are things
that are being done because the guy, the guy, well,
you know, I want to be the greatest president ever.
So he's you know, he's making these kind of decisions
that come with a little bit of pain for a while,
and well believe that. Yeah, I believe he's making the
right call.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
And what's a damn shame about it? As Democrats who
are kicking, screaming and whining the whole way are going
to benefit from it, whether they want to or not.
And that's the damn shame about it. But at the
same time, it's a good thing because later on they're
going to benefit. But are they going to give him credit? No,
they're not going to give him credit. Are you kidding me? No?

Speaker 3 (12:07):
But I think everybody wins, Our kids win, everybody. I mean,
there's nothing more important than than giving getting some more efficiency.
I mean it's just you just hear all these things
that have been going on and you're like, gosh, thank God,
there's an adult in the room too, you know, and
he's doing you know, he might be doing this for
zona ego. I mean it could be. I don't really care.
But because in the end.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
It's the right world benefit. Yeah, for sure, man benefit
from it is it okay. If Chuck said you could
use his yard if you needed to plant anything and
grow it here locally, he said you could do that.
You could probably get I don't know, four or five
orders out of something that could plan at Chuck's. And yeah, man,
he said, you can't have his weed.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
Though he's going to keep that. I said, weeds a weed,
and this understood him. You know, Mother's Day weekend, you're
supposed to be able to plan.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
However, with all the rain that we've had and the
thing I've had a couple of people tell me that
if I can clump the soil, like make a mudball
out of the don't even bother because the roots will
not expand it, they'll just die out. So wait till
next week. So I may not get to do that
this weekend either.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
I hear you.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
Most of our stuff is coming in in containers. So
the plants will that you get from us, they'll love
the rain, and then if it gets to be too much,
they will purge it because it's got you know, areas
where its overflow and drip out. So you can't really
I mean, there's a few plants you could technically over
water if you worked hard at it. But in our situation,

(13:36):
based on the the you know, the kind of stuff
that we're that we're doing, we're not we're not typically
putting this stuff directly into the soil. It's usually in
instant color, instant beauty, instant satisfaction, last all summer, bloom away.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
And it's yeah, and you guys deliver, you know, for
clearly for Mother's Day and this weekend and so on
and birthdays and everything for that matter.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Yeah, oh yeah, we got to We've got a whole system.
I mean, we we scale up big time and we
go from you know, from one size to an entirely
one hundred times are normal size, like you know, one
hundred times of business. And it's it's it's you know,
we got to bring in semi trailers. We've got to
bring in staff, we bring in temporary drivers, we bring
in temporary help, family members. There is so much, so

(14:20):
many people that are contributing to pull all this off,
for you know, all the mothers, and it's amazing how
many of them have mothers themselves and sacrifice and give
their time to make it happen. And I just want
to say thank you to all my all my people
out there that have have done it for years, and
you know, they they they're working, you know, eighty ninety

(14:41):
hours this week and that's what they're walking on. They're
walking on. Yeah, literally, they're walking on sore knees and
sore elbows and they've got careful tunnel cutting flowers and
doing all this. Thank you, guys, if anybody's out there listening,
I really appreciate your help and getting it done. And
to all the moms out there, man, and you've earned
every bit of our sacrifice.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
He is, uh, he's Steve Osmond, owner of flower Rama.
Not passing on tariffs, the uh, the the elevation and
pricing which is happening right now to his business. But
you know what local business is. Where it's at. You
can go to flowerama dot com and they can see
all the different types of arrangements and everything that you
have on there and of course perfect for Mother's Day

(15:22):
this weekend and all of that stuff. But Steve, God
bless you, man.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
I think of a guy to do that for me.
I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
Mark.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
That's more than I could have ever asked. I mean,
you asked me how to do a you know, talk
on tariffs and for you to to to you know,
respect me that way. I really appreciate it. Thank you
for sure.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Yeah, you're so nice.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Yeah you're very I know. Thank you. You're very welcome, Steve.
And continued success to you, brother. And uh, even though
I'm not a mother, I've been called one so and
you probably too, so happy mothers, dady.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
I'll let you know the delivery count on request at
the end of the holiday.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
I'll let you know very good. Well, look for that.
Thanks brother, appreciate you. See you all right here. He
