Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, I knew this is I knew, I knew,
I knew, I knew, I knew that we were headed in.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
This direction.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Because basically, what it seems like when there is a
tragedy all of a sudden, it just brings out the uh,
the extra amount of scum on this earth, and it
brings out the really good parts of people then also
the bad parts of people. And to here to explain that,
Let's bring in Jim Ryan, ABC News and Jim, welcome

(00:33):
again to the Mark Blazer Show. As I'm reading this about,
you know, this tragedy in Texas and so on that
scammers here we go.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
But along with that, there's some good going on too.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Well sure, yeah, and I think you see a little
of both of these things at the same time. You know,
people around the world are not just willing but eager
to help those folks in Central Texas to deal with
the flooding that's struck. We could go tomorrow making contributions
to different organizations and ensuring that the folks out there,
the first responders, have you know, bottles of water, and

(01:07):
that the people who need clothing, lost everything they have
have a way to kind of get a start again.
So yeah, there are folks around the world who are
helping with that through different means. But yeah, Mark, you
also have the jerks, the people who are willing to
take advantage of the situation start sending out text messages
with links in them purporting to come from some charitable organization.

(01:30):
You click on the link. I mean, the best thing
that happens is that you lose some money. I suppose
the worst thing you lose your money and your personal identification,
and that's sold on the internet later. So just be
very very careful if you intend to give make a
donation to the flood relief.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
You know, one thing that kind of jumps out at
me is, you know, nothing go fund me and I
don't know, there's probably legitimategofundme dot com accounts that are
devoted to this and all of that. But the first
thing I think of with that, I'm like, shouldn't it
be a different type of an account if you're like
a red Cross dot or you know something along like
something like that. But I know that there are other,

(02:10):
you know, other types of you know, people who want
to help.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
That are not associated with that.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
But for me, I always I think I'm not even
risking it as far as that goes, because there's so
much scum out there that are willing to do this,
and shame on them clearly.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
Well absolutely, and even WHI I'll tell you one story
that the county judge down there was telling me that
there were folks who were contacting the relatives of some
of the missing kids and saying, I have your child here,
I've got your kid. Yeah, I need one thousand dollars
to get him back to you. I mean, that is
just about as low as he gets. You're talking about
go fundme though. Go fundme has a sort of master

(02:51):
page of different groups, organizations, individuals who are raising funds
for victims and groups down in the Hill Country. Go
fund Me vetted them to make sure that they're legitimate,
and in fact, go fundme has set up its own
relief page and it started the thing off with one
hundred thousand dollars donation that now is up to two
hundred and nine thousand dollar together.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Well, that's a good thing, do you hear that? There's
no question about that. The other thing that and I
don't know if it's a situation that's happening with them
during this, but I know.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Go fund me.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
If you, you know, set one up for like something personal,
they take a chunk right off the top, or or
you know, something like that, you know what I'm talking about.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
I don't know if they're actually doing.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
That, but yeah, well right there.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
I think there is a percentage that the administrative fee
that they take. Now, whether that's that applies to a
disaster like this or if it's strictly something you know,
you're trying to raise money for a new car or something,
I'm not sure, but yeah, I'm still if you are
donating to a go fundme site that's been vetted by them,
a page that's been vetted and verified as a legitimate doing,

(03:59):
it's almost worse as opposed to clicking that link in
an email and ending up giving money and your identity
to somebody who shouldn't have it.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
I think there are still on the We're north of
one hundred plus people I believe that.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Are still missing right now too.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
I believe one hundred and seventy two missing across six
different counties. One hundred and twenty people are confirmed to
have died, So, you know, but missing is a little deceptive.
I think that unaccounted for is probably better because undoubtedly
some of those one hundred and seventy two on that
list were in the Hill Country. They got back in
their RV and they left before the storm hit. They're

(04:36):
off in Florida somewhere, but having to check back in
with their loved ones. Their loved ones are panicking and
trying to get a hold of them, and these folks
are oblivious. So, you know, let's hope that this number
actually goes down without more bodies being found.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yeah, for sure. All right, the very latest on this.
Jim Ryan, ABC News, Jim, thank you very much, appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
See you, Mark, We'll see you.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah, no question that this is you know, the scum
that are doing. But that was the first thing I
thought of when all of this started. Clearly an unbelievable tragedy,
but I was like, here we go.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Storm comes through, will fix your roof. He'll never see us,
but give us a deposit now and it it it
never fails that the people, Yeah, they do show their best.
There are also plenty that will show the absolute worst
they can possibly be in a situation like that.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Yeah, yep.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
So a little birdie told me that Zach Attack's going
to be hosting Saturday morning open phones.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Is that true, Zach.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
Are you going to be Yes, I will be hosting opens.

Speaker 6 (05:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Conveniently, you haven't said anything to us about that.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
I just wonder I self promote.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
He's scared we're gonna call.

Speaker 6 (05:47):
I've been going around passing out flyers and stuff at
malls and Walmart and stuff.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Because malls are going to be full of people who
are going to tune into Saturday Morning open.

Speaker 5 (05:58):
Casinos were well.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yeah, and and look good on you to try to
You're like, it's exactly why I'm going there.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
I'm trying to pick up new listeners, so good for you.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
I saw him out there by the casino with the
sign at the traffic light said we'll let you speak
for food.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Hey, look, well, we know that's a lie because he
doesn't eat, so like he cares about food.

Speaker 6 (06:18):
I got in trouble for what was advertised on the
other side of that sign, but we.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Can't get Oh yeah, well you do know that the
traffic coming, you know, behind you, they're the ones that
are seeing the.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
Other Yeah, tell me about it.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
Yeah, and the po is that probably explains the honking
and all that too. He's like, why do people honking that.

Speaker 5 (06:38):
Men, it's confused for such a long time.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Well, this will be your what fourth third or fourth?

Speaker 2 (06:43):
One?

Speaker 1 (06:44):
One?

Speaker 5 (06:45):
Fourth?

Speaker 6 (06:46):
Fourth?

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Okay, yeah exactly.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
How do you not know?

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Yeah, he's like, I don't know something like that.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
I guess what and don't take this the wrong way.
But the last thing I'm doing is getting up and
calling in Chuck and he's, oh, come on, it's six
to eight?

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Is that when it is? Eight eight? Okay?

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Really fun? People call it six thirty just so you know,
is that it? That's yeah, yeah, that's when they wake up.

Speaker 6 (07:13):
There's some really fun ones before the show starts that
are on hold.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
So they get they they it's the same one.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Oh so so they call and get on hold like
five thirty how early?

Speaker 6 (07:29):
About ten minutes before ten minutes. Luckily I'm on that
side of the glass. And Ella has to deal with it, which.

Speaker 5 (07:36):
Good for her. She's a saint.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Is she coming in Saturday?

Speaker 6 (07:39):
Is that who it is?

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Yeah? Yeah, Ella, we'll be producing you nervous?

Speaker 5 (07:44):
No, the first time I was not.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Now, so wow, you settled in quickly, didn't.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
He didn't take him very long?

Speaker 6 (07:51):
Jeez, also saying it's going to be good I'm just
saying I'm not nervous.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Right, No, I'm just wondering if you know, if you're
nervous or whatever, do you so you open it and
then you go over some of the current news, like
is that how you or do you open it and
just hit the ground going all right, let's get it on.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Were you?

Speaker 6 (08:09):
I think the first time I had a bunch of
stuff in my head.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Yeah that I was gonna.

Speaker 6 (08:14):
Say, and then kind of like ease into the phones.
But I was kind of nervous. So it's like six
h goddess floods Like it wasn't that bad, but you know,
bad it off, but uh not bad enough that I
didn't get a second chance to do.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
It, so well, I know.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
And then so Saturday, then will you go over any
of the day's news or the week's any of that
to set anything up?

Speaker 3 (08:36):
Or do you kind of do an update and then
go into it.

Speaker 6 (08:39):
That's why I mean, you and I got to talking early.

Speaker 5 (08:43):
That's why I came in early.

Speaker 6 (08:44):
I kind of have a couple of things that I go,
all right to talk about this, this and this, and
like where the show starts, you know, open foods. The
show's about you what you want to talk about. I'm
gonna mention this, this this through the show, all right,
blah blah blah.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Right, Okay, I'm just curious what the setup was for it,
because I know you said you get here.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
Didn't you tell me the first one you did? You
got here like four thirty.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
I got here really early.

Speaker 6 (09:08):
I was afraid to go back to sleep because I
was like, I'll sleep in so it's like I might as
well just go in.

Speaker 5 (09:13):
And then I was just like four.

Speaker 6 (09:15):
Fifty and I'm sitting here by myself. I'm like, why
did I do this?

Speaker 3 (09:18):
You know what he told me?

Speaker 1 (09:20):
He goes, Man, this building is weird at that time.
He's like, nobody in the building. It's dark everywhere.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
Sometimes I'll stay after in the evening and even in
the evening when the sun isn't down or anything else,
like in the winter and there's no one. Yeah, that's
a freaky feeling. Every little sound, uh for open phones.
You can get here like six oh two.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Seriously, as long as you sit down by the end
of the news when it's getting ready to launch.

Speaker 6 (09:50):
Got it covered. It didn't come until five.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (09:53):
The last time, like five thirty so so.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
There it is.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
