for the Capsidy Half Marathon tomorrow morning. The runners are

at it. But he's very confident with his glove. And

that he does with the glove that I think is
different from other guys, and this is a baseball thing.
He will reach across his body and make a catch,
whereas you know, most guys the gloves the gloves on
your glove side and you're using the blocker on the
other side, and he'll use the blocker, but if it's
within range, he'll just reach across.

an injury shortened rookie season the thirty one goals in

He can roll the dice so that he could say,

that he does with the glove that I think is
different from other guys, and this is a baseball thing.
He will reach across his body and make a catch,

other side, and he'll use the blocker, but if it's
within range, he'll just reach across.

heads and tail. He came in and it was highly
touted and all of that, but boy, what he is
really kind of turning into.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
Is really nice. Only twenty super nice right now? Isn't
that weird? It feels like he's been here a long
time already.
Speaker 6 (41:53):
Let's go back to probably second week of December, and
I said to Jody Shelley, is this guy going to
figure it out?
Speaker 5 (42:02):
Like what's going on here?
Speaker 6 (42:03):
Didn't have very many points, wasn't scoring goals playing third
line center. And this is why I'm not a GM
by the way, yes, because then it was took off
when Sean Monahan got injured and he had to move
from the third line to the first line.
Speaker 5 (42:23):
I mean, the points go off the charts.
Speaker 6 (42:26):
He just but what he was doing, and Dean Evison
talked about this, and I talked to Dean about this
the other day. He said, because he was asked about it.
You know, Fantell, he's not scoring a lot. He goes,
I'm never going to tell guys not to score goals,
but there's other parts of the game they have to learn.
Speaker 5 (42:42):
And he was and it wasn't you know.
Speaker 6 (42:44):
It was hard to see at the time because you're
expecting him to be doing something else. But then once
he started scoring the goals and putting up the points,
then you could also see the defensive plays that he
was making to keep the puck out of the net.
So this guy, look, he went from twelve goals and
an injury shortened rookie season the thirty one goals in
(43:04):
season number two.
Speaker 5 (43:06):
And I asked a real deal, I asked Don Woodell.
I said, look, you.
Speaker 6 (43:10):
Have said that in the past that there are guys
that you would, you know, give long term contracts to
when they're coming out of their entry deal.
Speaker 5 (43:19):
Is this one of the guys?
Speaker 6 (43:20):
And he said, well, agents have different variations of how
they deal with this. You know, some agents like to
go they want to go with a long term deal
right away. Some like the bridge deals. We'll have to
see what his camp wants to go with when we
get to that point. So either way he's getting another contract.
Obviously for sure he's like great position.
Speaker 5 (43:40):
But yeah he is. He's in a fantastic position because
he can, you know, much like you go into Vegas.
He can roll the dice so that he could say,
I'll take a bridge contract, I'll take a shorter term
deal and prove that I can really do good things,
and then I'll take a long term deal, or i
can take the guarantee right away.
Speaker 4 (43:56):
So what's that the bridge deal is five and then
maybe or less?
Speaker 5 (44:03):
What billions? Well no, no, you're billions, No, no, millions.
Speaker 6 (44:07):
Billions, yeah yeah, no, yeah, exactly, because I'm thinking about years.
Speaker 5 (44:11):
Like you take a year deal.
Speaker 6 (44:13):
You take a three year bridge deal, so just to
prove that you can continue at that level, and then
you get the.
Speaker 5 (44:19):
Eight year deal. Well, then you're like an elite player.
You're making your ten plus.
Speaker 6 (44:23):
Because you're not going to make your like eight times
eight or eight times ten or whatever it's going to be.
Speaker 5 (44:29):
You know, are you going to get that right now?
Speaker 2 (44:31):
No?
Speaker 5 (44:31):
So what's a long term deal right now? Look like
if you're probably I don't know if.
Speaker 6 (44:35):
He's coming out of the let's say it takes a
even if he takes a three three year at four million.
I mean, even if you do that, you got twelve
million bucks, right, right, and then you know the next.
Speaker 5 (44:45):
One's going to be sixty four plus? Yeah right? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (44:50):
Well, I mean look at if you're if you are
at thirty one goals now at twenty years old, and
we really don't know what the ceiling is for this guy.
Everything that everybody points to his elite, elite level for him.
Even Austin Matthews this year after what a sixty semid
goal season last year was thirty two this year, right,
(45:11):
and he had some injuries, and he had some injuries.
I get that, but you know, Fantilly could be that
level of guy for sure, an Austin Matthews level.
Speaker 6 (45:20):
Well, and so that's what it comes down to. As
a player and as an agent, what do you what
do you want to do? Do you want to take
a shorter term deal and say I'll prove to you
I can be that guy, or do you want to
go eight years right now and say I think I
could be that guy, but I'm going to take the
guarantee anyway.
Speaker 5 (45:37):
You know, if I'm Fantilly, I'm taking the shorter term, right.
Speaker 2 (45:40):
Yeah, it seems like a no brainer to me when
you kind of lay it out like that.
Speaker 6 (45:45):
It's hard to go because he's twenty, because I don't
know if the organization goes by Maybe they do, I
don't know, But do you do you go like.
Speaker 5 (45:52):
Sixty four million bucks right out of your answer level?
Speaker 6 (45:55):
Deal?
Speaker 5 (45:55):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (45:56):
It's a tough one. I mean, unless you are if
that number wasn't thirty, that's what excuse it for me. Yeah, yeah,
because it was thirty one. Yeah, because now you're like, well,
now now you've got preaty think about it, right, you know,
now you got to think about it.
Speaker 5 (46:09):
If it's twenty, you go, oh that was nice?
Speaker 2 (46:11):
Yeah? But how many? How many were empty netters?
Speaker 5 (46:15):
Yeah? Right, only one I can think of.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
He's amazing man, especially given how old he is. And
it's ridiculous his IQ conversations to have, by the way, yeah, exactly.
His hockey IQ is like that of someone who's been
in the league for ten years.
Speaker 5 (46:33):
At this point.
Speaker 6 (46:33):
It feels like when you watch him play, his process
like the way he processes everything at least.
Speaker 5 (46:39):
Well he's you know, so, no, he's come a long
way in one year. He's come along the way,
