Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, we're only a few days away from Halloween. Halloween,
do you get a lot of chuck is off today?

Speaker 2 (00:08):
By the way, do you.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Get a lot of trigger treaters? I know you live
in a kind of a normal neighborhood, Zach.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Yeah, I get a ton, do you?

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Yeah? And so does do you get to I mean
you gotta do you go around with Charlie or no?

Speaker 3 (00:20):
I mean he's old enough to go around by himself.
But I'll still go because I'm a child. Sometimes I
still dress up like Michael Myers and I'll go with
them kind of. But yeah, there's a ton, so you
gotta buy candy regardless and all the things.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Yeah, we always get a ton in our neighborhood too.
And I thought it was funny. It's like how to
be the best house on the block for trick or treaters.
It was like this article I was reading, and you know,
the very first thing on here, and most of the
time these are what you think they're going to be,
which is stupid. And the first thing they goes give
good candy and you go, oh, oh, well, no.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
No, I was gonna give apples and staplers.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Right, and then it's like full size candy bars. Alright, alright,
take it easy. Who's you don't That's the thing. It's
like you're trying to make your neighbors look bad. I
guess giving out fool kit depending on how many you're getting,
that could cost a fortune.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
That at least doubles the amount of at least any
money that you're gonna give for Halloween.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeah, at least at least. I love this offer non
candy alternatives. They go on to say, not all kids
want candy?

Speaker 2 (01:29):
What, No, what are you talking about?

Speaker 1 (01:31):
What they're like savory snacks like bags of chips or pretzels,
fruit snacks and granola bars.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Giving that out for Halloween.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
They also say glow sticks and stickers are always a hit,
are they?

Speaker 2 (01:49):
No, they're not not at all.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Twelve year old with stickers and glow sticks.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Right, And then this is the funny. I think this
is the funniest. But think of the tricker treaters, usually
accompanied by an adult. One is probably tired, ready for
a refreshment. So I thought, Okay, here we go. They're
finally gonna say something worth a damn And they go
make their night by setting up a refreshment station. And
when they use the two words refreshment station. I said,

(02:15):
there is not going to be a mention of beer here.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
I just know it. No, And then they got water,
coffee or hot cocoa. Come on with this, man, I mean,
giminy chrism.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
I'm not doing any of that. No candies enough.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
It's like so they can hydrate and keep supervising the
marathon of door knocking. They go on to.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Say, anyway, he's the Uh, he's the radio voice for
the Columbus Blue Jackets. Bob mcgelliganate joining me, and uh, Bob,
welcome in.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
I haven't talked to you in a while.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
I'm still stunned by that stupid list. Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Do you get a lot of trigger treaters.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
No.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
I shut off the lights, like parked cars down the street.
Shut off the lights.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
I'm done with that.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
It's because I was.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
I was in Sam's Club last week and a bag
of miniature candy was twenty two dollars, so I'm out.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Yeah, but if you buy that now, then you would
be eating most of it.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
I would imagine, well I would be, and I mean
that would be great, but I'm not spending twenty two
dollars on candy. It's not happy.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
No, I understand. I understand. Plus, your kids have done,
they're way too old. They don't trigg or treat anymore.
So you feel like, all right, I did my time.
I don't have to do it anymore.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
Like school taxes. If I could get out of it,
I would, because they're not in school, right.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
That's why they say you shouldn't live in every needs
to be by the way.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
When your kids are done, you're done.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Yeah, they now, wait a minute, if you're living in
a school district you like in that zone, I mean,
they can't just go Well, if you got a kid,
then you got to pay.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
If you don't have a kid, you don't have to.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
Okay, while your kids are in there, When they're out,
you're out.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
I guess, I guess there could be.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
Why do I have to keep paying for that jump?

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Yeah? No, I get I don't even agree with that.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
The stuff they're teaching. What do I got to pay
for it?

Speaker 2 (03:58):
I understand one percent. That's why I wanted to do.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yeah, well, I just wanted to see what it was
like for trigger treating at the mcgallicate household.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
I didn't know exactly.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
How dark like dark. Let's go out from work.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
But the funniest hold on the funniest part is you're like,
I park my cars down the street like.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Noboddy thinks like he's in there. He's just not handing
it out. I know it. He's got that mcgelligant makes.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
All that funey on October thirty first, from like I
don't know six D eight thirty perfect.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Yeah, is that what you'll be doing? For sure?

Speaker 4 (04:33):
I know I don't know what I'm doing Sunday, let
alone October thirty first, and you're like, oh, Halloween's here,
what are you talking? But what is today?

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Almost? We're almost there right right? Hey?

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Uh, First, let's start with cam Atkinson, which I thought
was a really cool thing that you posted on your
x account.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
And for him to give you that shout out.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Dude, I was smiling when I saw that, because I go, man,
that has got a feels so good because he's like
the big news that was happening, you know, recently with
the Jackets and so on, obviously in addition to the
season getting underway and so on.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
But if you have not seen Bob's.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Post or didn't get to hear anything, what cam Atkinson was,
what he actually said, this is so really cool.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Check this out.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
Hey, Bobby, I got two words for you game over.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
So were you sitting there for that, by the way,
you think you were?

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Right?

Speaker 4 (05:29):
Yeah, I was there because I'd asked him a question
just a couple of minutes before that. I had no
idea he was going to do this.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
That's so cool, that's so.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Cool, I had. I had no idea, And yeah, it
was cool, and it was It was cool because you know,
here's a guy that that I saw get drafted, and
I saw come into the league as a rookie, and
and now I'm seeing retired, you know, and you know,
I just it feels good that because you know me,

(05:57):
and I've told you this before, Like when I'm done
doing this, I said, I won't miss the game. I
won't miss one play of the game, and that that's
not what matters to me. It's the people that you'll miss.
And so the fact that you know we've had a
relationship and continued it even you know when he moved
on to Philadelphia in Tampa, you know, that's that's to

(06:17):
me what was really that's what made me feel good
about it, because I feel like, you know, I hope
that's a sign that I'm doing something right that you know,
still still buddies with those kind of guys. So I
really really appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
That is really cool that Like when I saw that,
I just I that's the ultimate respect from a player
to shout out to you like that.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Man.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
That's awesome.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
Yeah it is, and that well. Actually then there was
another step and what he got done. He brought over
his younger son to me and he said, go ahead,
tell him, tell him and he said the same thing,
which was really cool. Then we high five, so, uh, yeah,
it is to me, it is Uh, I'm I'm honored
that he would do that.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Quite frankly, cam Atkinson said Twarts was supposed to be
in Columbus for the press conference, but he was working
for ESPN.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
They spoke yesterday.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
He said, what was the first thing Towarts said to
Cam about today?

Speaker 2 (07:14):
And in true Towarts fashion, don't f it up was
what he said. That's what he told Cam about, you know.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
Do taking you know, becoming one day and retiring a
jacket and all of those things, which I said, that
is absolutely perfect. But I'm telling you, I guarantee Torts
didn't want to be in this city at all, you know,
playing against this or otherwise.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
He just doesn't want to be here, I would imagine.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
You know, No, I don't think that has anything to
do with it. I mean, he's as I as I
texted him when I saw the announcement, welcome back to
the media, with a couple of laughing emojis, because you
know he's always on the Well you guys, you guys,
Well now you're us guys again. Buddy, I'm sure. I'm
actually sure he was working. And I really do think

(07:57):
he would have been there if he if he could
have been here, because he has great respect for those players,
especially a guy like Cam who he coached both here
and in Philly. And as Cam said yesterday, you know
most of his career, John Tworderella was his coach.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
That is uh, yeah, that is really cool. And uh,
that's a good perspective that you got there. Man, tell
me what you like about what the Jackets did during
the offseason.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
I knew you were going to start selling about the
current team.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Yeah, well we got to get a little bit in
on them.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
And look, I'm kidding you know.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Me, man, I'm not gonna be like, oh, they've lost
three game.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
What is going on? What is happening?

Speaker 1 (08:35):
This is not the team that I just, you know, thought,
let's focus on what happened before the season got started.
Something maybe, or a couple of things or whatever that
you saw or heard that you liked with with the team.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
No, I just go right to it because I'm just
getting around about talking about them. I mean, look, you're
only a couple of games in, but your records one
and three. I really liked the first two games on
the roads. I did. I loved how they played in
Nashville they lost to two to one. I didn't like
all the penalties they took in Minnesota last Saturday, but
they scored seven they won the game. Both of those games,
I thought they played with great energy and they were,

(09:10):
you know, forcing the other team to do things that
they didn't want to do. And to me, ever since
they've come home, all I've seen is the other team
forced them into doing things that they normally don't do
and don't want to do. Now, granted, two very good
opponents in New Jersey and in Colorado, but I just
don't see that it hasn't been that same jump, It

(09:32):
hasn't been that same energy level and there hasn't been
that same type of desperation to me in the last
couple of games, and that's what you know. It surprises me,
disappoints me. I'm sure that I'm not the only person
that I fall into that category. So it's got a change.
And look, the special teams, say what you want to,

(09:53):
they're they're not scoring on the power play and they're
giving up goals to the other team's cower. So that
that's got to be remedied, and it's got to be
remedied quickly. It's easy to say, well, you played four
games out of eighty two, or's plenty of time. There's
plenty of time. I'll tink you back to April when
we were saying, man, if you could have just won
one more game, amen, So that game could be in October.

(10:15):
It doesn't have to be in March, right yep.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Matter of fact, it's way better if it ain't in March.
For the love of god, you know that's not when
you you don't need your back against the wall going
got to win this if you if you want like
kind of where we were last year, it's like coming.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Up a game or too short.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Holy crap, man, there was a collective. Like in Columbus
people were just like, you've got to be kidding me.
But man, never a truer statement than you just said,
which is, when you're coming up a game or too short,
it doesn't have to be those last games that you
really need because you put crazy pressure on yourself in
those situations.

Speaker 4 (10:51):
You know, Look, I ultimately think they're going to be fine.
I really do. I'm not just making that up as
we talk today. I think they're gonna be fine. But
if anybody thought that you just take the momentum from
the end of last year and you just crank it
back up at the start of this year, I mean,
this is a great indicator that that's not the way
things work. So you got to go back to doing things.

(11:14):
And there are things that are that you should have
concerns over, and I think there are things you should
have big concerns over right now, just because you got
to get on track. You know, it's it's a little
thing until it's a big thing. Last night nip it
in the butt right now.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
Right and last night watching Colorado that first period, because
I got through most of the part of the second
period as well, and I was trying to watch the
Steelers and Bengals whatever, and so I was going back
and forth. But anyway, point, being in that first period,
I thought to myself watching Colorado, they look like their
mid season form. I mean, it's unreal and there's a

(11:53):
reason their record is what it is right now. Those
guys they're in the right spot. It's like, you just go,
how can you be in the right spot every single time?

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Where there? And it's just like, well that.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
Starts to not be luck after a while, it's like,
well they've got some stuff figured out.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
There's no question about that.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
To keep pace with a team like the Abs for
three periods, that's asking a lot from any team, not
just the Jackets, but any team. But they should be
if they're gonna as they say, you got you got
to be the best. You got to beat the best, right.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
Yeah, I mean it's look, they're yeah, they're tough. And
guess what tomorrow Campus here they're tough. Yeah, Tuesday, you
got to go to Dallas. They're tough. You got to
come back and face the Capitals. There's no soft spot
on the schedule, zero absolute zero, and you know, yeah,
it's it's all passed. But it's a task that you've

(12:44):
got to take on and succeed against the you know,
more times than not if you want to be in
the playoffs at the end of the year. It's just
that simple.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Hey, were you surprised that in Nashville that Jet got
the start?

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Were you surprised about that? No?

Speaker 4 (12:59):
Okay, so no, I mean he finished a year last
year on that winning streak. I believe they both had
a good camp, but you know, I think he earned
it based on what he did last year. And again,
you know what, the two goalies and the two best players,
that's the fact, and Elvis. Elvis has given up eight
goals in two games, and yet he's fine. He's been
really good. So that sounds crazy perhaps just if you

(13:21):
look at the numbers, but when you watch how he's
played and what he's faced, and you know how much
worse it could have been had he not been great,
and you get that and you understand, but that you
know the you know, I spent all summer and saying, well,
what's the biggest area of concern, Well, the goaltending, the
goaltending goal guess what the least area of concern is
right now? The goaltending it's all the stuff in front
of those guys.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
Man Elvish, he turned aside a lot of really good
shots last night out of the gate. And so to
your point, I know exactly what you're talking about, but
it has to be somebody who's watched the games and
kind of understands what they're seeing there too. But you're right,
I think we're going to be fine long haul between
the pipes, because that is something that clearly was a

(14:04):
little bit of a question mark over the summer, but
it was only based on how well Jet finished. And
you got, boy, Everson's got some really you know, it's
got some soul surging to do here between those two.
Because Jet was playing like he was playing out of
his mind at the end of last year. It was fantastic.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
So, you know, I the hot give Gee a lot
of credit on this one because he claim he came
to a Clippers game in August and I was having
a conversation with him about this and he just he
simply said, he goes, I think it's going to be
great for Elvis to be challenged, for somebody to come
in and really push it. He goes, like, when's the
last time that he was challenged in his job, and

(14:44):
it's been a long long time. To me, I have
to go all the way back to when Jonas corpors
Sollo was pushing him and looked like he may have
had the edge. And then Corporsolo got a contract, and
about a week later, Elvis got a contract that was
a bigger contract, and there was the end of that
competition right there, right. So yeah, it's been a long time,
and Dean was excited about the competition between those two

(15:05):
guys and he felt that it would make Elvis better.
And it's early, but the early indications are he was right.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Last year at home ice, the Jackets were in Flago,
they were fire last year. Let's hope that that gets
going sooner rather than later, as the Jackets will welcome
in the Bolts tomorrow night Tampa Bay.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
A really good team.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
Don't let that their record for you either, as matter
of fact. So yeah, a really good team in Tampa
Bay tomorrow night at seven o'clock puck drop at Nationwide
Arena like Saturday night hockey at Home Baby, Well.

Speaker 4 (15:35):
It's the first twenty fifth anniversary celebration night of the year,
and I was fortunate this afternoon I got to MC
at lunch and we had Dave King, the first ever
coach of the Blue Jackets, rusdy Kleslow, the first ever
draft pick, Ron Tugnutt, big popular goaltender, and John lu Grampierre,
my good friends and who were all on that inaugural team.

(15:56):
And so that celebration is going to happen tomorrow. All
those guys will be there. Kevin Dine will be there
tomorrow night too, So there'll be a lot going on
outside of the game itself, but yeah, the game is
where they've got to get it together. But it's going
to be a fun night at the arena.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
Yep, we'll be watching it and listening for sure. Radio
voice for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Bob mcgelligate. Bob, thanks,
have a good call tomorrow and thanks for jumping on
with me. Man, have a great week.

Speaker 4 (16:18):
Thanks pleasure, See you, brother,
