Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yeah, this house on fire, no it's not really down in,
fountain In has gotten worldwide acclaim. I mean, if you
just literally put house on fire decoration fountain In, you
will see news reports from ABC News, Fox, NBC, the BBC.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Everybody's talking about it.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Look, so this is the handiwork of Sam Lee and
Amanda Peton. Sam is on the phone with us. Sam.
Welcome to the Jellison Browdie Show.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Sir, thank you so much, good mooring.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
How are you all?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
So many questions?

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Yeah, this has really taken off. Now, I know this
isn't your first rodeo, and we'll get to other things
that you've done in Halloween before. But when did you
realize that this thing was bigger than you maybe expected
it to be.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Well, we started and we turned it on last Friday night,
and then Amanda just started getting She was getting like
a thousand Facebook messages an hour all through Friday night
into Saturday. It was people everything from man, that looks amazing,
how did you do it? To oh, y'all are horrible people?

(01:03):
So yeah, you know you'll have the one percent that
you can never please, but yeah, I mean it it
just went viral quick, which was shocking to us because,
like I said, we had done the same display in
twenty twenty three and it it got a really good response,
but nothing like what it's received this year.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
An idea, First all, how did you come up with it?

Speaker 3 (01:22):
I love decorating for Halloween. Probably ten years ago, you know,
it's like, hey, I want to be the house on
Main Street fountain. Then it gives out the full size
candy bars. And then probably six years ago I bought
a hearse and then a casket and we put all
the candy bars in the in the casket to pass out,
and then it just grew from there. We had a

(01:43):
rollover van wreck in the yard. One year, we bought
a wrecked Assessina airplane and put it in the front yard.
One year, we did the house on fire back in
twenty twenty three, and then we you know, we were
doing that again this year.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
How do you figure that it's getting the kind of
a this year?

Speaker 3 (02:01):
I don't know. I really like it was the same
exact wording on the post, you know, tongue in cheek
kind of hey don't call the fire apartment, you know,
just just being funny, and for some reason this year
it just took off it has is the certain.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Hours you run it or how does it go? When
does it get turned on and off?

Speaker 3 (02:18):
We do it every night between eight and ten pm. Okay,
so people want to come out and we'll do it
every night, yeah through Halloween.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Let me get down to the nuts and bolts here.
What exactly are we I need? I get the smoke machine.
But how do you make it look so real? Or
is this something that the secret saws you don't reveal?

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Well, it really is just lighting. I mean, it's just
special effects lighting. A lot of people think we have
projectors and screens in every window and it's really just lighting.
That's all it is. And then the smoke machine.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
So what's it like inside your house while this is
going on?

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Well, well, fortunately all our living area is on the
back side of the house. Okay, so we you know,
it really doesn't bother us. We don't see it looks
so much for y'all.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Just sound like fun people. What do you do for living?
Are you an engineer or is she an engineer?

Speaker 3 (03:06):
No, my family owns a heating and the air business.
Amanda owns a flower shop in Fountain End. Like I said,
I saw it a few years ago, and I was like,
I've got to figure out how to do this, and
I finally figured it out.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Sam and Amanda also do a very cool thing for
the community on the eighteenth, that's a week from this Saturday,
your pumpkin patch. And we saw a picture of it earlier.
Where do you get all these pumpkins from?

Speaker 3 (03:27):
By the way, So we get them from a produce
company down in Columbia and so I actually was talking
to them yesterday and I think we're going to have
an amazing turnout this year, so we've opped our order.
So yeah, we would love to invite everybody down to
our big free pumpkin patch. It's October eighteenth, as you mentioned,

(03:48):
eight am to noon, or until we run out of pumpkins.
Last year we gave away about fifteen hundred.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
That's very cool that y'all are just good people. They're
just good people.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
When I first saw it, I thought the same thing
everyone else thought. We need to get these people some
help here, and maybe in a certain way saying we do.
But but yeah, the full sized candy bar, that's what
got the Ellison Brawley's attention.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Yeah, that's showing that that's the baller move right there,
full candy bar.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Well, you know the city, the city. We're very fortunate
that the city of Fountain In closes Main Street four
trick or treaters on Halloween so that they can have
a safe trick or treating experience and not have to
worry about cars going up and down Main Street. On average,
we will go through twenty five hundred candy bars in
three hours. Wow.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Well, listen, you are certainly in the spirit and you
are sharing it with the not just our community, but
the world as well, because it's getting international acclaim for
your creativity. And again, you know you're gonna have your
critics out there, but for the most part, people understand
what you're.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Doing just right. You're just good people, really good people.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Sam. We appreciate it taking time to check in with
us this morning. Our best to you and amending your
family too.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
But okay, thank y'all so much. Wait up, come out
wherever you are. Great pumpy, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
We're so than Hansard

Speaker 3 (05:09):
MHM.
