Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Caroline is number one for New Country Whistle out
ofver WSSL with Ellison Bradley here our guest for a
few minutes. So we're talking with Elliott Kelly. He is
course with the Blood Connection, good friends of ours and
the folks who keep the blood supply going to our
local hospitals.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Here.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Now, Elliott, we had some winter weather that's occurred over
the past several days, and obviously that is affecting your donations.
What are we going to do about this?

Speaker 2 (00:23):
What we're doing is we've prepared ahead of the storm.
We began offering increased TVC rewards, which as you know,
can be redeemed for E gift cards, and we're continuing
that through Wednesday of this week because we need to recover.
We need to make sure that we have blood products
on the shelves for our local hospitals. So any of
your listeners, if they want to be a blood donor
and help save lives, they can go to one of

(00:45):
our donation centers this week Monday through Wednesday and they
can receive seventy dollars in TVC rewards at a donation center,
or if they want to find one of our mobiles,
they can receive fifty dollars in TVC rewards for donating there,
and they can find their nearest donation center at the
Blood can Do Org. We need their help this week.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
And you have a wonderful support on social media too.
That is a wonderful place to begin, guys, if you
just go to Blood Connection and see their social media posts.
They've done a really great job of explaining what those
incentives are, and really maybe you can explain to the
folks you know how bad the need is right now,
because now I've been through this in times where there
have been short supply, but again, like you said, because

(01:24):
of the holidays, because of some of the tragedies happening
around here, because of the inclement weather, those supplies dwindle
a little bit there, and it's vital that you get
those supplies back up to get them to our local hospitals.
These all stay locally donated.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Here absolutely, you know, going into the storm. Because of
those decreased donations during the holidays, we're sitting on about
a two to three day of inventory of blood products.
Where we need to be to make sure that we're
taking care of these hospitals is five to seven days
of inventory, and you know, we've had good donations that
help us, you know, overcome a little bit of that hurdle,

(01:57):
but we've got a ways to go. The Blood Connection
needs over one thousand blood donations every single day to
be able to support the hospitals in our service area.
Let me break that down a little bit for everyone
here in the upstate, especially the Blood Connection is the
sole blood provider of every hospital in the Upstate of
South Carolina. So without us, without us getting those blood products,

(02:19):
they could face a shortage. That could be a potential
And as we've been talking about, our medical director has
been talking about, this is a medical need for blood
products and medical need for blood donors. We can't create
blood in the lab. It takes a human being willing
to step up and serve their community by taking a
little bit of time and donating. And we need them
to come out this week. And imagine this time of year,
you're seeing more car accidents.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
People are, you know, with the road conditions the way
they are, and the need is great and the donations
are low. We need to make that we flop that
around a little bit in that back around. Yeah, sure, absolutely, Elliott,
Thanks for all the information. There and again, guys go
to the Blood Connection dot org to find a donation
center near you. As someone myself who's given more than
a few times here.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
He's got the I got, I got the hot test,
you got that.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
It is an honor and it's a chance for you
to be a hometown hero of someone you'll never meet.
But again, the need is great, and Elie, you've done
a great job of explaining what folks can do and
how they can step up for our community here. We'll
appreciate you and look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
We appreciate y'all, Bill and best, and to all your listeners,
we'll see you at a center this week.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Let's make them live absolutely
