Christianity has lost much of its power because we really don't expect anyone to change as a result of being a Christian. At least we don't expect them to be more loving and more tolerant and more positive. We aren't surprised if a person becomes a Christian and they get grumpy. In our 21st century minds we are obsessed with making sure we believe the right things. This focus on believing the right things is not new. It really started to build momentum during the Renaissance period, Age of enlightenment or reason.
