think the football gods, the Bears fans have been through
a lot. It has been really, really ugly. Their brightest

moments have been like offseason moves or the trade for
Caleb Williams a couple of years ago, that trade with
the Panthers, or landing Caleb Williams and what it could be,
and then the games happen. It's like, how is this
happening to us? How is this franchise in such disarray?
And then tonight, listen, you got some shitty calls. Early
(01:53):
in the game. There was a touchdown that was called
not a touchdown because of a penalty that should have
been a touchdo down on a great Caleb throw to
Roam in the corner front corner of the end zone.
And then the referee on TV comes like, yeah, that
was that was the wrong call. That play should stand,
and it just felt like God, I honestly started to

feel bad for Bears fans. It's not like Caleb was incredible.
He made some nice plays. It's not like the Bears
were clearly the better team in this game. Definitely were
early on. Games started flipping in the second half, and
then the moment that Moody gets his fuel field goal blocked,
you like, it's just it's just not meant to be.

And this is gonna be a good lesson for Ben Johnson,
who I thought had stretches where he was calling a
really good game. I mean, there was one stretch a
night where it's like, I think it was third and
two or whatever, third and one right before the end
of the third quarter. There is more time on the
clock or the play clock than the clock, so they

could have just ran it down to double zeros and
gone on to the fourth quarter. I've never asked to
coach about this, but I would say it's a universal
practice in football where you just run it down to
double zeros, you essentially get a free time out. You
go to the sideline, especially on a third and short,
you meet as a team, you kind of talk some
stuff out. They snapped the ball before Caleb like drops

the snap. It's a bad snap. I didn't see the replay.
He just gets in golf. And then Moody missed the
field goal. That's when I thought, like, this franchise legitimately
might be snake bitten. I mean, you're playing the team
that had this legendary hail Mary. I'm like, it's just
not meant to be. And then the Jaden Daniels handoff
happened and they got the ball. I'll be honest, I

almost fell out of my chair. That was, you know,
I'm writing down because I thought the game was over.
I thought they were gonna be able to essentially run
the clock out and the Bears were just gonna lose this.
I don't want to say devastating game, but it was
like a game that they got to be feeling we
should have won. We you know, I think they would
say we outplayed him in the first half, we were

playing well. In the second half, we were having drives,
and we're gonna lose this game on the road, Like
we played a good game that our coaching staff did well.
Like that that was IoT. Ben Johnson had stretches where
he was excellent tonight. The EBB and flow of his
play calling, getting to the ball to his guys on
the perimeter. Clearly they saw a deficiency on the Washington

Commander's perimeter defense, whether it was outside runs, quick screens,
and just being able to take advantage of them on
the edges. You know, DeAndre Swift I don't know if
he was the best player on the field, but he
was near the top. You could make an argument he was.
He was fantastic. He looked like he was playing at
a different speed and the moment they dropped that ball

and then they were able to basically run the clock
down to Jake Moody. Which listen, if the game would
have gone the other way and Jayden wouldn't have fumbled it,
one of my takes was gonna be, like, I understand,
I've been in these front offices where you have these
lists of kickers. When your kicker gets injured in the
middle of the season, there are slim pickings and picking

you know, kickers that are on the street or on
teams practice squads. It's not like you know, selecting players, Well,
you know that's so and so he's had this many
snaps over the last couple of years, or we had
a third round grade on this guy. No one knows
anything about kickers, not your GM, not your head coach,
who is typically an offensive or defensive guy, not like
a kicker specialist. It's a complete craft. Shoot, now, this kid.

What made this story so I would say disappointing is
the forty nine ers use a third round pick on
the guy, but in fairness to them, Jim Harbaughs said,
death taxes and Moody. The guy played at one of
the best programs in the country and dominated, and then
he was just a disaster. And once he had that
field goal blocked after having a really good game. I
mean early on he is just drilling long field goals,

little buttercut butter draw right down the pipe, and then
he hits that ball that's blocked at the beginning of
the fourth quarter. Looked like he was three feet off
the ground. So it's like, was it really a great
block or just a terrible kick? Like I didn't feel good, honestly,
I felt like kind of nervous for him, because you
don't want to see a guy continue to get embarrassed.
And it's a tough spot, like he doesn't know these guys.

He just got joined the practice squad because there's an injury.
And then he drills the kick and he gave to
Lisa Salters. The postgame interview, every player takes off their
helmet and does an interview just either with a you know,
a bear's hat or just their hair flowing out. He
had his Hell, he's a kicker, had his helmet on,
chit strapped and did the interview in his helmet. He

looked like a guy who was scared shitless even doing
the interview. And listen, I say this all the time
about young people confidence. When you got it, you feel
like you're never gonna lose it, and when you lose it,
you feel like it's never gonna come back. Hell, you
got people listening to this that are probably thirty, forty
fifty years old. We all can be I don't even
want to say insecure, but when you lose your confidence,

you become insecure about your abilities. And clearly like he
is still trying to find that, there is no disputing
his talent, and Ryan Pole's like, what are you gonna do?
Probably the other five or six options aren't great either,
So you go with the guy that you probably had
a draftable grade on who's available, and he comes through,
and he makes a bunch of field goals, including the
game winner, and you get thrown a lifeline as a

franchise after like they felt it's weird they had buttoned
up drives. They still commit a lot of penalties, some
of them not all their fault that they do some
dumb things. Caleb had a throw in that game that
you could tell Troy Aikman wanted to fall out of
the booth like it was a beautiful throw in the air.
I mean when Caleb even he had one that looked like,

as Troy said, a shortstop rolling to his left. He
threw like seven hundred miles an hour. I don't care
if that was Chris Carter, Marvin Harrison, and Randy Moss
morphed into one guy. They could never catch that ball.
His physical ability when he lets that thing go, it's
like John Elway in his prime. I mean, he quirks
this ball to Roma Doonsday got pretty lucky. Number twenty

on Washington didn't high point the ball and said he
willly mazed it and ran right into row. Bad decisions,
he still has some. He had a ball in the
red zone that could have been picked. Can be a
little hit or miss, but he also made some smart plays.
He made a winning play at the end of the
game when he scrambled around and trying to get them
to burn the timeouts. You see players do this all
the time. Brain fart not pay attention to the situation.

Run out of bounds, he hits the fucking ground with
a couple of yards to spare before the white and
it costs, obviously the bears of time out, which you
ended up putting them in position to kick the field
goal with no time left. So listen, there's still a
lot to be desired. This was a pretty ugly game
in terms of it's not like, I mean, Caleb's numbers

don't look bad. He had two hundred and fifty yards,
But how long was the one swift play at the end.
I think it was like forty yard. I mean, what
kind of tackling was that hit DeAndre fifty five yards?
So essentially, I mean that probably should have been like
a ten yard play went for fifty five. So overall,

he wasn't terrible, did not turn the ball over, sacked
a couple times, showing progress, and I think one bright
spot is showing toughness can be. I think both these
guys fall into this category a little reckless. Like there
was one play on the sideline where Caleb scrambling away
from like four defenders and these aren't dbs. These are

defensive linemen, edge rushers, defensive tackles, and the middle linebacker
and he cuts it back inside and I get, you know,
trying to conserve the clock and worried about it's like
you cannot and he gets leveled. Jayden does this all
the time he's running around. It's like, guys, you are

premium assets in the business you work in. You're the
number one overall pick and number two overall pick, and
you have I mean, Jaden's an exceptional runner. Caleb is
an exceptional athlete relative to the rest of the league.
And he's not quite Jaden level athlete, but he's a
fantastic athlete. And movement wise, they're pretty special going around.

They gotta be careful about their body, both of them do,
or they're just not gonna last. They're gonna get rolled
up on, They're gonna get their knee twisted. I mean,
it's already happened to Jaden Daniels getting injured, and you
saw it a couple times a night. You're like holding
your breath. It's like you're just gonna take some random
shots to begin with. You know, Jaden had the one
where they called the roughing the pastor, which I don't

know on Brisker. I don't think he got shoved into it.
He just tried to make a tackle. He's probably a
little lower than he wanted to me. It's a little
bang bang, it's kind of It's true by the letter
of the law, but I don't think there was any
malicious intent. But the bottom line is you're just gonna
have some of those where guys are around your feet
taking some shots. Maybe your offensive lineman, you know, get
spun around like a dradal and you get lit up

like a Christmas tree. So anytime that you get out
there and you're controlling your own destiny scrambling around, and
Caleb does it all the time. Caleb is he wants
to play like Russell Wilson in his front right. And
I do think one thing with Caleb is it does
feel like at times in the pocket he struggles to see.
You know, there was a play when they scored the

go for two and twenty five in the flat would
have been I mean, if it's Tom Brady, Peyton Manning,
just Josh Allen, guys that are six foot five and
they can see it's because he's already kind of looking
over that way. But I don't think you can see
because tackles right in front of him, and like that's

kind of a problem. And that's why I think he
scrambles sometimes when you're like, did he have to scramble
because one of the knock on him is kind of
playing that hero ball. I think it's just a basic
math equation, right when you're under six' one or, under
and especially some of these guys you see it With

confident from throwing within the. Pocket in terms of his
