football Today. The Big Twelve Championship is underway. Welcome to
(00:54):
College Football Today, brought to you by bet d s I,
Joe Lisi, Ritzmono, o'ga, Maurenci and Hall of Famer Marshall
Falk breaking down all today's action. We talked about Ohio
State in Northwestern. We're gonna give our picks. I mean,
when you look at this matchup, Clayton Thorson and the
crew are gonna need to step up. Clayton Thorsen's completed
(01:15):
sixty percent of his passes, fourteen touchdowns, twelve interceptions. Rich
They're gonna need to run the football a little bit
in this matchup. Bowser has come on in recent weeks,
but this is still an offense averaging one fourteen per game.
I think they could do it enough and keep it
within the number in the end. I think the Buckeyes
win a very close ball game. And I said it earlier.
(01:36):
The issue for me is you know which Ohio State
shows up? I honestly don't know. I mean, we know
the capability is there. We saw it last week against Michigan.
To tattoo them for sixty two points is just unheard of. Now.
We also talked that Fitz is gonna have a very
different defense, not gonna be man to man the way
Don Brown did last week. It's gonna be a zone defense.
So Ken Dwyane Haskins pick apart that defense in a
(01:59):
zone own type situation, I'm gonna take Ohio State. I
think we we they finally turned the corner last week.
Northwestern will hold tough for a while. I can see
Ohio State pulling away in the second. Me I'm going
it's it's uh. I don't think it's going to be
a high scoring game. I just I feel like Northwestern
they make you play a certain kind of game loving
(02:21):
they make you put the gloves on, they make you
get in there, and you gotta work the body, work
the body, work the body and see if you can
knock them out later. Um and and and I just
there's gonna be a little bit of letdown like that.
That Michigan win was so huge, so big for them
to not just beat but dominate a Michigan team that
(02:42):
was that was favored heavily. And I just think the
young quarterbacks struggles against throwing the ball in windows with
the anticipatory throws that you gotta make against Zoe, He's
going to struggle. This is going to be a close game.
I like Northwestern. I but but and I and I
think under as well. Yeah, well, Gabe, I want to
(03:03):
ask you this, Ohio State in this matchup the last
couple of years, they dominated Wisconsin fifty nine to nothing.
They dominated last year as a six and a half
point underdog against Wisconsin. And when I say dominated, I
mean they stepped up and won that matchup one as
an underdog. The underdogs have barked and bitten in big
(03:27):
six and one against the spread, six and one against
the spread. Uh that the underdogs, you know, it's very
reminiscent of the cowboy in the State game. I think
Marshall brought that up the other day in a sense
of what Northwestern wants to accomplish. I'm you know, and
I'm a Michigan fan, so it pains me to say this,
but I think that the team's speed of Ohio State
is just getting me too much. I think that we
(03:49):
over analyzed these things. And yes, Ohio State they lost
by twenty nine to Perdue. There's still an Ohio State team.
It's eleven and one of the season. Still't know how
the state team to scores four or three points three
points per football game. Yeah, they give up twenty five
points per game, But it is Northwestern really gonna be
able to exploit Ohio States defense? I'm not so sure.
I mean, Northwestern scored twenty three points a game, guys,
(04:11):
That's not a lot in today's college you know, real
college team scored twenty three points in a freaking half,
you know. So yes, if everything goes according to plan
and Northwestern plays great, and this Clayton force and stuff
to the NFL needs to settle down a little bit.
I mean, really, marches this kid being playing the NFL. No,
let's be real, right, fighting for and for that, all right?
(04:32):
Come on, Simon played. I think he's a little marginal.
I think he's marginal. He's immobile, control the ball better
and started to control the ball better. He almost can't
be immobile coming into the NFL anymore. That's like, that's
like the nonstarter. I look at like Manning now and
it's just like, I just think the team speeds too
(04:54):
much here, and I think the demise of ole House
State is a little a little bit over the exaggerate.
It's really nothing else matters right now that you know
they're playing for a either a trip to the playoffs
or a trip to the rolls. Ball gets washedon, which
isn't a bad thing. Yeah, one thing for betting purposes, guys.
This is sort of like, uh, like you know on
soccer in the World Cup, you know Group A, they
(05:16):
need to know if this team draws, we need this,
we need to score more goals. Long story short here,
I think's my bookie at long story short here. Where
I'm going with this is they're gonna know a lot
more after the Oklahoma and Georgia games. I'm glad you
brought that up because I wonder if the Oklahoma Texas
game really matters as much as people are saying, because
(05:38):
you know, if if Texas pulls the upset, well, how
states lest to win? So there's ample motivation to get
to the playoffs. But if Oklahoma wins and it's a
relatively close game, they don't know what the committee is
gonna do. No, but if if Oklhoma wins relatively close game,
that opens up the door for a house state and say,
you know what, we go out here, we win fifty one, nothing,
we're in even if Oklahoma rolls over to Texas. I
(06:00):
think Ohio States going into tonight's game thinking, you know,
if we take care of business, we think our resume
stacks up against Oklahoma. I don't think they're making any assumptions.
What happens though, and I brought this up. No, no
assumptions can be made either. But what happens if here's
an assumption though, Georgia. Now, if Texas knocks off Oklahoma,
(06:21):
Alabama beats Georgia, you seef loses and Ohio State loses. Oh,
now you're getting I don't. Let's say you can't. I
mean we're talking about Alabama's at that's a real chaos. John.
I like your style, though, the scenario. Northwestern we believe
will be in the game to a degree. You see
(06:44):
f screen, Well, I'm not I'm not even kidding. The
next man up it is Michigan ranked number seven, But
I totally understand. But as that's how I'm agedding guys,
I mean, you're you're talking about a Michigan team that
gave up sixty two points to Ohio State. But Georgia,
I just can't see Georgia if Georgia, if Georgia, if Georgia,
(07:04):
I don't know what if Georgia loses, does the lost
to Alabama knock you out of the playoffs? That's the question.
I don't think so, unless though I hear you know,
I got you, but a lot if you because I
I would I thought the law. I thought l s
US lost to Alabama would knocked them further down, and
(07:25):
it did not. It kept them at seven, right, I
was like, wow, Wow, seven lost. Georgia's long. If they
lose to Alabama, I don't think it will knock them
out of the playoffs. I mean, but it's gonna be
an intriguing argument because now you open up a can
of worms, who are a couple of two lost teams
where depending upon how much if it happens. I mean,
(07:47):
it's a dooms a lot of areo, but it's something
to think about. It can't be. I mean we're talking
about Texas knocked off Oolklore. It's happened, you know, Georgie's
not beating Alabama today. Could happen? I mean, you can't
say it can't. I could meet your cure and hook
up with her. That's definitely bet on that. That's what
I'm saying. Guys does does Pat Fitzder? Can he get
(08:10):
these guys? Can? And I just I keep I keep
thinking about that. Can can he sell his team on
the fact that Ohio State is overlooking them like they're
they're ridding high after they big man versus Michigan. I
think we're not fast enough. We don't we don't have
(08:33):
we don't have five star athletes like I can we
can we go out here and compete with this juggerna?
You know, this is this is urban maybe ridding off,
you know and into the sunset like the last And
here's the thing. I go back to that game a
(08:54):
couple of years ago where they weren't as good as
they were this year or last year in terms of
the on seven and then they rolled off eight straight games.
Last year, that front and seven was a dominant front
seven in terms of holding opposing offenses against the run.
They held Ohio State to twenty four points in their
house with the with the team that was less talented.
(09:16):
This game scares me. It just it just bothers me
because of Ohio State and it's not normally I rolled
with Ohio State because of what they do on defense offensively. Offensively,
it's always been been kind of skittish hit or mistassin game.
But they're gonna run the football and Urban's gonna come
up with some plays that that's gonna put the ball
(09:37):
in and and in their fast guys hands to to
maybe outflank the defense and take advantage of some plays
similar to what he did to Michigan. But their defense
you just can't hang your hat on. You don't know.
Hi States do have the five stars as you're talking about, right,
so the kaleg's there, can they reach them? You're talking
(09:58):
about Northwestern? What do you what do? What's Ohio State staff?
I mean, obviously they're not getting the most, isn't it, Chiano?
Isn't this this is. I mean he he has to
really be on point in this game. Because the Michigan game,
the first half of that game, before it got away
from Michigan, it was a competitive game. People forget Michigan
(10:21):
put thirty night boys up on the board. In this game. Oh,
I don't think anybody's arguing whether Northwestern could you know,
put up points. I think they can move the foot.
I don't think. I just don't think they have the speed.
I just think you don't have to mitigate offensive speed
when you play zone. Yeah, when you when when you
when you watch the quarterback and make him think, as
(10:43):
you stated, make Haskins think. You show him this, You
show him one thing and you play something else. And
and if they can stop the run with their front
seven and they don't have to compromise and bring a
guy in the box, this, this, this game is gonna
get Sorry, Joe, I was gonna say, is it's one
of these games. Though Northwestern's battling there in the trenches,
(11:05):
boom pump, retern Ohio State. I just think there's gonna
be a kid here, a kid there that's gonna make
more plays. And it allowed up points friends getting out
of control. It has. I mean, you know when when
it was the thirteen and a half fourteen, it's one thing.
We're talking about sixteens. Now it might get the seventeen
here could And if you watch the Ohio State I'll
just say this about what to Marshall's point about playing zone.
(11:27):
Ohio State hit a number of big plays on small,
short crossing patterns in man to man coverage and that's
where Paris Campbell broke out. He had two touchdowns in
that game because he was running free across the middle
of the field. It is disappointed. I was so disappointed
in Michigan's inability to Marshall, they didn't adjust. Need it not.
(11:50):
Not only did they not adjust, they refused to adjust. You, okay,
this is what we do. We play man. They have
they have their man beaters up and Marcia always talking
about coaches need to put the players in a position
to succeed. Right, talent, and you're looking at the NFL
talents the same everywhere. Bad teams argue we have more talent.
(12:11):
The kids of Michigan. They weren't overwhelmed by the moment. Remember,
like there was the fumble late in the first half.
I saw Patterson on the sideline. He wasn't nervous. He
was talking to the kids. Everyone was calm. It's almost
like the coaching staff put the players in a bad
position and did them a disservice last week. How has
the track mens started? Texas scored already? Olcomelcome. I think
(12:33):
it was like a four or five play four seconds
and four seconds. We'll have another update, ob hope. So
oh and it was, and it was, and it was
Ellinger running it in. He ran over two guys way before.
He runs like a full back. He does. He will
(12:54):
be if if they don't like if he's okay with
being the third quarterback, somebody is going to use him
the same way you see uh Taysom he will being used. Yeah,
it's it's a ring planning. Was was you know? And
woind up being a very good linebacker for the Cyclones
and an emotional leader if you could play special teams.
(13:17):
And Linger seems to fit that type of mentality because
he plays in a quarterback. He'll he'll make an NFL
roster So can he will them? Will them to the victory?
Will has two more years also, so well see we'll
see in Bushell is gone after this year's I would think, so, yeah,
we'll see. We'll see how that game plays out. Two
other games we're gonna get to Mountain West Championship Boise
State West, Fresno States two good quarterbacks and Brett Rippon
(13:41):
and Marcus mcmanry and two. Boise and Fresno play every
two weeks. Is but don blew that game a couple
of weeks ago. They had a seventeen to three lead
on Boise on the road. I was on it's lucky
to get to win. I was lucky to win that bat.
There's a winner, of marsh He's talking about a winner
right now. So I don't like to brag, Joe. I'm
(14:03):
not like you. I bragg like me. Here we go,
Oh my gosh, you guys are killing meself on the
back that that'll be. I like Fresno here. I think
they have the better front seven than winning up around
a hundred twenty one rushing yards per game. Pressure though, Joe,
but I big big Jeffrey Allison fan and listen, jeff
(14:26):
Tedford has done a remarkable job defensive staff. Great job mcmarrion,
terrific pickup from from Oregon State. UM Alison will be
all over the field Allison versus Alexander Madison the boy
stay running back. Great matchup, but they just don't get
to the quarterback. What I like about Boise is despite
the fact that they've lost players to injury at every
level this year, top ten nationally in sacks, Fresno doesn't
(14:48):
have that and at home Rippon's final game Madison running well.
Kind of gotta go, Boise states. I think the one
thing when you look at the sack matchup this is
last year they struggled to generate sacks as well, but
the offensive line for freds No doesn't give up a
whole lot of the sacks. And that's where I think
you couldn same situation last year did a great job
and pass intermediate passing in more shoot. You know this,
(15:11):
especially to neutralize a pass rush, could be big, especially
in terms of the screen game. I look for rivers
to be a factor in this matchup. I just like
Tedford in this spot again underdogs, He's been here. They
didn't get it done in three straight matchups. I think
they get it done here in this ball game. I
like Boise in this position. UM ripping ripping the kid
(15:33):
is uh, he'll play next level. UM need to need
to be coached up on some things. But for whatever reason,
when you put Boise in these games, they produce. They
produce in order to beat Boise and in San Diego
State has done it. You have to control the clock,
you have to run from football, and you have to
(15:54):
make sure that when they get the ball, they need
to score you. You can't let them just run plays
and have fun and do all the little stuff that
they like to do. They have to feel the pressure
of oh, they score, we we gotta score if if
if and I don't know if Fresno I don't know
if Fresno State can do that. I like boys here
in this here place to play any environment in the weather.
(16:16):
Tonight too for news breaking news seven seven drake up
seven nothing Iowa State before we plu before we get
off Mountain West. Fresno State's last ten trips to Boise
heartbreak city too. So I mean that history has to
weigh on the minds of the Bulldogs. You have to
(16:37):
run the ball against Boise State. You have to go.
You gotta possess the ball. I'm rolling the dice, rivers
and the crow. We'll see how that game plays out.
It is a seven o'clock kick seven one week, Well
we come back. We'll be talking about the huge A
A C matchup between you. You see f in Memphis.

eight seven nine Defenci Sports Radio Network. You're free Fantacy
source twenty four hours a day. Sat Almost Fire. Is
(18:11):
that what that is? Oh? I can't tell you who's saying.
It's st almost fire gave anything? You know? What's to
deal with? All the eighties moves? Who's up? There is
an angle because metal or something. I think Marshall is
the baby of the bunch here at forty five. Everybody
thought I was thirty five. Doesn't that make you feel
a little younger. You're the youngest of all the four
(18:32):
of us. It's it's okay, it's it's fine. I think, Joe,
I don't know gonna be forty seven. Well, we're getting
up there for sure. The oldest man. I'm forty eight. Unfortunately,
you don't look at day over forty six. I appreciate that.
What are you gonna say, you're looking at my gray hair? No,
always make fun of my gray hair. You say I
(18:53):
use Gresian form. If I had hair, it would be
I'd look like Anderson Cooper. I think if if I
GISs up, Quick update, Quick update, Texas Oklahoma, Texas up
seven nothing, Oklahoma on the Texas twenty two yard line.
Kyler Murray leading on a drive in Iowa State has
just scored to tie that ball game up. David Montgomery
(19:16):
would a touchdown run early scoring as well. App State
up seven three midway through the first quarter of black
could be a track. I never know. We'll see how
that game and transpires. I mean, when you look at
this matchup in Orlando, a a C championship at both
of these teams played when Mackenzie Milton game, I mean
(19:38):
thirty one thirty in the pouring rain, and they still
you know, Henderson rushed for a hundred ninety nine yards
and two touchdowns in that ball game. I gotta think
that if you're Brady White and the crew, you have
to feel very confident heading into this ball game. Even
though you you see I got the victory last week
against Charlie Strong in South Florida. I mean you're lost
(19:59):
by one point when Milton was in the lineup. I
have to think you can have a chance to win
this ball game later today, Yeah, I mean you have
a better chance than you did this time last week
pre you know, Mackenzie Milton. I'm gonna be fascinated to
see what do we get, not just from Darryl mack
from Josh Hypel because this is New Territory, first year coach,
but now he's got a first time starting quarterback, young
(20:21):
kid from Norfolk, Virginia, has a lot of physical talent
but no experience. I'm all over UCF. I mean, I
I think this is going to be a win one
for Mackenzie. Very emotional week. This was a kid that
that was just not an injury, that was an injury
that could potentially affect his career whether he plays again.
Very emotional for UCF. I I could see this defense
(20:42):
pulling together and those running backs Adrian Killings, Greg McCray,
mccraiye has been playing very well, big place, speedy running back.
I have the utmost respect from Mike Norvell and that
Memphis offense. So both teams will score. But at the
end of the day, you know, we talked a lot
about Fresno and beat Boise and Boise, Memphis can't beat
(21:02):
UCF and UCF. I mean the last six times they
were in Orlando, Joe Owen six straight up, Owen six
against the spread. Love Darryl Henderson. I don't think. I
don't think the the winning streak ends today for UCF.
Front seven impressed me last week against Houston, especially in
the second half. Now, I know that they were going
against a third string quarterback, but the way they shut
(21:23):
down the run in the second half of that matchup
leads me to believe that they can make UCF sort
of one dimensional and forced mack into long third down situations.
I mean, this is a quarterback that that's still completing
around fifty of his passes. You have a chance, especially
for your Brady White, to jump up early. Mac finally
has a chance to prepare. I mean, I I really
(21:45):
can't put too much stock in his Are you drop
a kid in mid game? Something we're not talking about
two is max ability to run. We're talking about a
big kid. He's big, he's six, he averages seven yards
of carry, He's rushed like two Uteran eighty yards, and
his limited appearances, I think they're gonna will themselves to victory.
(22:05):
I know you don't say you hang your hat on
you UCFS defense, but I think they're gonna be able
to run the ball. I think they'll let Mac run
when when stuff breaks down, I think he'll be able
to extend it and it sticks. And they got some
decent running backs. Game win streak, it's not just about Milton.
I think they win this game and then the Cinderella
the clock strikes midnight in their big time Bowl game
(22:27):
and they lose the ball. How important is it when
you never beat a team in like ten shries to breakthrough? Finally,
I mean, what do you have to do from a
mindset perspective, Actually, you have to go out and play
your game, like not not play against them, but play
your game, because you can get caught up in the
(22:47):
playing against them and and and ride the emotional roller coaster. Um.
But I look at this game and I just I
just feel like for for a for a young coach
in Josh hypeol Um, a guy that understands what managing
the football game is all about. And I was I
was reading like his comments when he talked about when
(23:07):
he talked about Matt, he said, the kid really handled
every situation. He managed to clock, he managed to plays.
He made the plays that we expected him to make.
And and when when when a when a coach talks
about a quarterback like that, that means more is about
to be put on his plate. He's going to have
(23:29):
more of the offense. I would not be surprised if
Mac has a game that just blows you away. How
much does it help Marshal that Hypole is a quarterback.
That's what I'm That's what I'm saying, is you got
a new quarterback. He got a defensive guy, Like, all right,
can't do your best out there, Hypel knows what Mac
is going exactly. I can walk him through. Son, just
(23:49):
take it easy here. I just needed to do this.
Being a quarterback doesn't not help Marcia. It helps. And
that's why I'm saying is hypel will walk him through.
These are going to be your emotions. This is how
you're going to feel. If the ball starts sailing high.
I need if you're throwing the ball high, this is
the problem. You're throwing the ball low. This is He's
(24:10):
gonna watch him in warm ups they're gonna have He's
going to be ready to play, and and and and
let's just say, if Memphis comes out and says we're
stopping and run Mac, you have to beat us. I
think you think he can. I think I think not
only do I think he can, I believe he's going
to have a huge game to where to where a
(24:33):
high poll is like quarterback of the future here. That's
why I like the over. Let's not underestimate, guys, how
difficult it is to play in the stadium as well.
I watch I watched college football every week. I'm watching
a million games. You know, on Saturdays, it's loud that stadium.
They're insane. First off, the State of Florida's like for
crazy people, right, exacting late. People don't realize people you
(24:58):
do know most of the people in Florida from New York.
Well people in New York. Okay, okay, okay, take you
out there. The fan duel sports books out time, Marsha.
You want to see crazy like Central booking over the
Central Booking. You don't think of you CEF. It's like
a tradition of football power there. Their school is huge, rich.
(25:22):
You would know the alumnis alumni out of anyone, right,
so their school's massive. They love football in Florida. They're crazy.
You get that real party like people talking about everyone
state party and stuff. It's a mix between hot chicks
drinking and hot chicks and like raider fan nut jobs.
(25:43):
And they're black. And I'm telling you that is a
vapid building to go into and try to play and
it's a it's a freaking madhouse zoo Um. It's a
tough place to play. And I think that's gonna be
tough to from that. Think about the emotional roller coaster
that that program went through losing Elton last week, now
preparing for you know, another a C title, potentially protecting
(26:05):
that winning streak, protecting that perfect season. Maybe be a
borderline playoff team, even though then of us think it's
gonna happen. I think the emotion that stadium is going
to be just off the charts. And I say, Gabe,
you said it well, willing this team to victory. Now,
they have talent, but I think that ability to will
them to one more victory. I I think they get
(26:27):
out of there with a win. And we would be
surprised if Memphis poz and and watch when you lose
a player like Milton and you got a quarterback step in,
everybody elevates everybody else, elevation. Fans gonna play better offensive line.
They understand we gotta run the ball. You gotta make
sure we keep him in manageable down and distance on thirties.
(26:48):
Guys don't want it. They don't want their boys saying you,
guys didn't win without Milton. They're not. They want to
show you what kind of team they are. Okay, Milton's
all core. Let me see what kind of team we are.
We lose our quarterback, we get out back up in
and we can still be you. So I just want
to get this straight. You're on UCFF CF u CF.
(27:14):
What colors were colored Jack and Memphis blue. I'm blue.
I'm going with Darryl Henderson. I'm wearing I just I
think that when you look at that matchup, I think
that game was very telling for me in terms of
the physicality that they played with last week, not just
(27:34):
u CF, because they did they played Charlie Strong out
coached himself right in that second half of that matchup
when they were down four to ten, had an opportunity
to go for the midfield he punts turned the whole
game around. That being said, I watched this team in
terms of where down at Oliver in that front seven,
they showed me something. I'll tell you something. This is
(27:56):
one of the overlooked aspects of small college football. Look
his story really over the past decade, Memphis does offensive
line play about as well as anyone amongst the group.
Did you see a year after year after year, coaching
staff after coaching staff. They always block well, particularly run blocking,
and they're doing it for daryline rushing yards per game
(28:17):
against the defensive front seven and UCF that's given up
two oh five. So they have this significant advantage. And
then I look at that front seven and they say, Okay,
they're only giving up one fifty per game there they
but they have some defensive ends that can crash down,
especially in the read options. So again, I will see
one game it is. It's a whoever can dictate the
(28:38):
temper earlier. I'm curious to a lot of good stores.
I think Oklahoma, Oklahoma the kid. That's a win for
the Texas to do that. If you're Oklahoma, I think
because of the better offense and better quarterback play they have.
They have first in goal at like the three credit
that Texas defense they've been coming list. Texas also has
a really good secondary crisp. It just makes more plays.
(29:01):
They make more plays than in Oklahoma. They forced you
to beat them. There were defense that maybe they statistically
they give up. And who picked Texas to win the
Big twelve in the preseason. I think I was Joelie.
I don't know, I'll stop being superstitious. Pick Michigan and
win the Big Ten. I was wrong about that. You
were close, Yeah, ok, they just just just ride the wave,
(29:23):
just right, ride the way. I didn't pick the orange.
You should have been wearing burnt orange alright. He also
picked Illinois to win a big ten Louis Louis build
up said Alabama that one. Yeah, but you do know
what it's like. It's like reality. If you're gonna if
you're gonna lose, it's good to lose early and forget.
(29:47):
People have short memories. I mean, here's I mean when
you look at this Poison State just total I mean,
do you think I mean they played to traditionally, I'm
thinking under. I'm thinking under seven team was last game
last year. You know what? Put it this way, I'll
put it in this context. The Mountain West game between
Boise State and Fresnel to stay. I don't think it'll
be ten three. It'll be similar to the Wasshall Washington game.
(30:09):
We saw that. That's a good I'm not good analogy.
That's but that's a football game. But I want to
I want to watch, not especially favers. We get to
watch a mountain a big Mountain West game without having
to stay up. Rain effect. I'm curious to know there's
rain effect, especially with the field turf slick track. We
(30:29):
saw you see f not not as much, but uh,
the rain does affect um, the spread, the ball handling. Right,
you gotta be careful in the rain. I mean it's
just going it back to running back on a lot,
going on center snap a lot of the fancy handling
(30:49):
of the football. There's a lot of quick, quick tosses,
throws at the quarterback. Got to make that. You get
a wet ball, and it makes it. It makes it
a bit challenge for the Colts and the Rams two
indoor teams. How difficult was that transition when you guys
had to deal with weather being more of an indoor
We we practice outside. You just you prepare you. But
(31:11):
like when I was young, my my first couple of
years when I went to Indy and I mean the
coldest weather I played in was maybe at at Laramie
Um or below State. No, I mean it wasn't not
during that time or the year you know falls over
in November. Yeah, you've been thirty forty now, but it
(31:31):
was every other year. So you guys were hosting him
on the NASA, right, right, So it wasn't as bad now.
It's a great point, Marshal. College kids, you ain't playing it,
and if you were, you're played in a bowl game
in Florida. Totally different. So I go to Indianapolis and
we're that's the old a f C. East, So mean
a Buffalo and stuff. Yeah, you get Buffalo, you get
(31:54):
New York, you get the Patriots, and and we're talking twenties.
I mean my first cold were the game and on Buffalo.
I was looking like the mischiling man I had, how
do you guys play? It was in your head before
the game. I'm from New Orleans, I went to San
Diego State football has played in the war who I
(32:15):
don't want to play in this miss and it's back
up Lamott Warren who played a Buffalo. What are you
talking about? Were playing this in September. It's a baby.
These guys going out and have shirts. I'm looking at
him like, are you kidding me? Like how do you?
How do you play in this weather like this? So
(32:36):
in the room though, the people judge, because you know
the lineman that we're not words sleeves. So did anyone say,
come out, Marshall, you got a man? Eventually eventually they
got me there, Yeah, eventually got a lot of layers. Eventually.
What happened was I had to start practicing in the
wet shirt when we were going out in the cold.
So you put a wet shirt on you put your
(32:56):
paths over it, so you put used to it to
get used to be on possible really us, Yeah, you
you gotta you gotta get your body used to and
then and then a lot of cold tub before practice,
you getting the cold tub after practice, getting cold tub.
People just in that state, we just imagine guys, You're like,
they're not human, right, People already looking at players as
(33:16):
players say, did the guy whatever? Man? It sucks like
when I walk in the rain, your your socks, getting
at your shoes. It sucks, right, football player, Like, damn,
I'm cold under hair. Those first couple of hits when
it's cold, those first couple of hits about helmets stuff.
Lord h I got a suggestion for game then to
(33:37):
get ready for the cold weather. When you do the
podcast at night where wear wet socks, the Anger and
Rage Show, and I'm wearing what so fired up? He's
all fired up. He hit it three, so we'll see,
we'll see you. I'm wearing wet socks. Now. If if
Memphis doesn't cover this match, stand up, they're trying to
(34:00):
getting his bogun. That's not good. That's not good. Mars Early.
I think Marshall will weather the storm or ropa dope.
But when when Marshall was saying, you know that he
was into Marshall, I thought he was talking to the
first person there. For a lot, we didn't talk about
the big game. Stanford Cal Stanfords one eighth straight over
the band a gunny win against Colorado last week. They
(34:23):
won that matchup by twelve. Yeah, Stanford didn't dominate u
c L A higher scoring game two. I'm going with
the better defense here. I still think Stanford one dimensional.
Bryce Loves stepped up ninety three rushing yards. They're only
average d still a hundred and eight rushing yards for
a game. Give me Garbers, give me Patrick laired they
(34:44):
break this string tonight in Berkeley. Think it over Stanford.
I'd like to go in more details on the back
end of this. I agree with you on Cal. Justin Wilcox,
awesome job defensively, a lot of no name kids. I
think they finally break through after lo in eight straight
against Stanford. Well we come back. We'll be breaking down
the big game. Joe Lesie, Ritzermonello, Gay Maurenci and Marshall

pay the bills. Bragging whites and bragging rights is not
going to get the Wells Fargo off your back. You
(38:31):
can't go to jared'son by you. It's enough with the
bragging rights. Bragging rights in the big game later today
between Stanford and Cal I like cal in this man
catching I think it's two and a half three points.
I think they win the game out right, better team.
And I'm just not sold on Stanford this year under
David Shaw. Joe, it just means more. We talked about
(38:53):
this a lot of times, and we've seen some big
streaks fall this year, right, Kentucky finally beat Florida. We've
seen some big Street instead have gone by the way.
We've also seen some other teams like just meant more
to Michigan, just meant more to Virginia last week, and
then a lot to Ohio State. I mean, I can't Stanford.
I think looks past cal Today, cal Or a trendy pick.
Everyone in the gaming world likes cayl Cow Cow Cow.
(39:16):
I look at it like it's three and show me
if I lose, I lose. Let Cow beat him a
couple of years in a row. I'm not by I
find that these teams the sort of underachieved. I remember
going back to Week one, guys, and we were looking
about Marshall. San Diego State slowed down Bryce Love in
the first game, remember, and we were like, Wow, maybe
it's just because they they did so much to to
(39:37):
shut him down. They had so many packages and signed
to shut him down. But we've seen Stanford about a
hard time running the football year after that. Actually, but
I find looking at the Washington Huskies kind of a
disappointing season. We can end strong by beating Wazoo our
arrival and go to the Rose Bowl. I think Stanford
can sort of save face. At least they could say, listen,
we didn't have a great year, but we ain't losing
(39:58):
the Cow. You know, We're not. We're not all the way.
It's not that out of here. We're not losing the Cow.
David shot to me he's one of the best coaches
in the country. He'll have his team ready to win
this football game. And that's that's what it comes down to.
Stanford will not lose the Cow. Is this battle for
North cal I mean, I don't mean to call him,
but this is this battle of the i q s.
My nerves are better than your nerves, is like, that's
(40:19):
that's by the way, Hey, that's who said it, more
nerves than the NFL. Every year Stanford you go and
and uh, this is this is one of those games
that comes down to coach and Coach Shaw will have
his guys ready to play and then this this is
going to be one of those games for Bryce Love.
Uh you saw him start to take over the game
(40:41):
that they are going to slow this game. Now, they're
gonna run the football, They're gonna they're they're gonna muddy
it up and see if, see if when when Patrick
Clarry get the football and he can make the plays
that I'm like you, Lesia, guys, I'm about fired up now.
I don't want to bet Stanford at going to the
book less. Yeah, that's me and Marshall against you two.
(41:04):
Let's get it. Let's go, let's get it well quickly
before we get into the discussion, I want to reel
off our best bets the day. We got about fourteen
uh minutes left. I like Georgie to plus two points.
I think they lose a close scoring game against Alabama.
I'm already on Marshall Wamami e c U. I like
you a b I think they have the better defense
over Middle Tennessee stayed heading into this matchup. Texas is underway.
(41:29):
Give me the points with Northwestern. I just think somehow,
some way, Patty fits finds a way to keep this
game close. I'm laying the big wood with Clemson. I
just again, I think it's a one dimensional offense for Pittsburgh.
I'll take the Tigers as they roll to a champion.
How great is it that Patty fits as a linebacker
named Patty Fisher, damn good linebacker. Reminds me a little
(41:51):
of the way back in the day, even more athletic
than Fitzgerald, who was not that athletic. My my best bets,
my I have my two twelve o'clocks that have start.
Texas looks good so far. NC State looks good as well.
I think that's states up what to nothing, U seventeen nothing.
They'll coast. That will be hopefully two victories for me
to start the day, and the rest of the day
(42:12):
I'll celebrate those early victories by rooting on Ohio State
to roll over Northwestern. Too many athletes against Pat Fitzgerald
and Patti Fisher. I like Boise State. I just think
it's I'll probably sweated out because it's gonna be a
close game, low scoring, but at home they've owned Fresno State.
I mentioned it Fresno's last ten trips to Boise oh
(42:33):
and ten. I think it's one eleven. Clemson is going
to annihilate. It's just not even get competitive. And I
think this is like a three type game. It'll be
over early and then my best bet of the day.
It's really not but I just want to piss off game.
I love the Cal Golden Bears. Yeah, I love that.
Let me just tell you guys, why. Okay, this is
the reason why Stanford traditionally David Show I love love
(42:56):
him personally, love love him professionally. Not having a great
past couple of seasons. Stanford's brand used to be strong
defense in a running game eight seven nationally uh defensively
and second running the ball. This is not the same
Stanford team. Cal sees its first opportunity in almost a
decade to win over Stanford. I like Cal. I think
(43:20):
that watched that Cal defense. They shut down the better
athletes of USC. They shut down the better athletes of Washington.
I think they shut down the better athletes to standing
age second half adjustments in that game against USC. That's
why I like Wilcox. I think he's like Willcox. I
think coming I've talked myself in the Stanford it's a
light day today. We're looking for some action. We're gonna
be watching these games all day. We were on Texas
(43:42):
plus the points. Right now they're hanging around. They're up
seven three late in the first quarter of play, the
total at seventy eights dropping right now the end games
in the seventy four seventy five and a half rage.
We're buying in with UCF, guys, I just don't want
to overthink things. I got a team that's want twenty
four football games in a row lane three points on
their home field. I think they'll be motivated by the quarterback.
Like Marshall stated, I think Mac will be just to
find and I like the fact that Hypo is a quarterback.
(44:04):
He'll have them ready. Um. And I think they lose
in a bowl game. That's that's one to send into
this little story. We'll come to an end. Give me, UCF.
We didn't talk a lot about Alabama here enough today,
I don't think. But once again, guys are doing something
that hasn't been done since eighteen eighty eight, not nineteen
eighteen eighty eight. And Yale they're gonna win this game.
I don't know if they win by twenty. I think
(44:24):
they're gonna want to win by twenty to keep this
street going. I think they can win by seventeen or so.
I can see George I hang around. But ultimately, as
the game progresses, Alabama is gonna pull away. Northwestern Ohio State.
I think there's gonna be points put up on the
board in this game. You gonna be over sixty one
and a half. I added Stanford to the rotation here
as well. I'm gonna play the Stanford Cardinal direct. It's
(44:50):
it's us too, because because I like I like Stanford here,
I'll jump up Boise later tonight to well, let's get it,
there's some synergy here. I like Stanford. I understand what
you're saying with cal Ys Stanford, they will get back
to smash Mount football in this game. They're gonna see,
They're gonna find that they're gonna see with cal how
(45:12):
physical of a game do you want to play? This is?
This is like this is like Bryce love Swan song
like this is you gotta send the guy out and
I look for a big game for him in this game.
I like Stanford in this game. Um, and I think
it's going to be a lower scoring game because they're
going to try to slow down the tempo and control
the clock. Um, I'm going with Boise, it's it's just
(45:34):
a tough place to play. I mean, I couldn't even
imagine playing on blue turf. It just it's it's it's
just it's just different. And then and uh, and I
even like the under in that game because just whether
Boise might be one of those type of games. Um,
I like Northwestern. I think I think they're going to cover.
(45:55):
I just I feel like they're gonna do exactly like
I said, slow the game came. Now play zone, find
out if the young quarterback can you throw the ball
into windows? Can you make the anticipatory throws? Can you
do that? Clemson rolls, and I mean they roll there.
They are going to roll. They are on a mission. Um,
(46:16):
just just in case, and and I wonder this, Let's
let's say to Alabama Georgia game is close. Do Clemson
leap frog Alabama? I say no. I'm just saying let's say,
let's say it's close. I would say no because you
have more of a one four type of scenario where
the the parity within the A c C has been
(46:40):
Clemson and everyone else. I mean, there's been not one
team that you could say outside of Clemson that could
even possibly challenge from a physicality perspective, mensie State, they
dominated Florida State, they dominated Who's left. But but I'm
just got a one lost Georgia team. If this game
is close, let's let's let's say you know, Herbie does
(47:00):
his thing and and they play a close game or
or better yet, it's it's it's Georgia dominating in Alabama
comes from Bambo. What happens then you know who? You know,
who's you know, who's got a case of the shakes.
When Marshall says that Ryan Kelly, Yeah, either who's the
tougher oplament Oklahoma? See Alabama number two? Because you Clemson guys,
(47:24):
if you say your Clemson hypothetic, you're Clemson, you go
up to number one. Suddenly you'll say you're playing Oklahoma.
Would you rather play Oklahoma or Notre Dame? Personally? I
think yeah, I mean, who's a more dangerous team. I
don't think Clemson kind of Oklahoma is probably my day
Clemson though, because of the Murray factor. Here's the thing
about Clemson. Clemson to me, when I look at Clemson,
(47:45):
how they're built similarly to Alabama. This is a great
road team. I mean and dominates on them. If there's
one team that does not fear anyone, I think it's Clemson.
I mean, they went told a told with Alabama for
the most part two games. They won one National championship.
Last year. They had some quarterback issues, but defensively, that
(48:05):
defense held Alabama's offense and check it was Alabama's defense
that made turnovers against Clelly Bryant, that turn that really
turned the tide. So they're the two teams Clemson. Clemson
and Alabama are the only two teams that I've watched.
When you spread them out, they're capable of stopping your
run game with five or six guys in the box,
(48:26):
because because they will if they have five guys, if
you spread them out the front, the four down lineman
in one linebacker, or if you move a guy in
four down lineman and two linebackers, they can stop your
run game. They will. They don't have to compromise anything
on the back end. And and when you can do that,
when you can control, when you can control the line
(48:48):
of scrimmage with five or six guys or seven guys
and you never have to get a guy in, now
you can play coverage. You take away the element of
of of big plays. You make teams slowly work the
ball down the field, and once the ball start going
sideways against these two defenses Alabama Clemson, you're done. It's
done too much. He don't slants. You cannot done hitches
(49:11):
and slants against that. And that's what they want you
to run exactly. That's what Clemson did in the in
the playoff game. Because when you run sideline to sideline
against the front seven, that's that's their strength. You have
to neutralize their strength. You have to attack vertically. You
might not complete passes, but you have to loosen them
up to get those linebackers off. But the reason why
they're so dominant, and and tell me if I'm wronging
(49:33):
ball shows that they have defensive tackles that cloth running lines. Yeah,
and when they forced double teams, that's why teams can
you have to they're both of their defensive lines. It's
impossible to run a man the man's scheme and if
you try to, if you try to zone block it,
they're gonna crease you. And they're in your back field
before before the quarterback hands the ball to the running back,
(49:56):
and and in in in the in the zone read,
which is, which is you can't have penetration, and that's
all they do is penetrate. It's it's unbelievable. Quick scores
of Virginia Tech up seventeen six Drake Drake Drake oh
Man cakes plus they're they're tied fourteen apiece. And the
(50:18):
one thing I've watched just on the computer here I
haven't watched. Actually the game just watching drives Texas is
forcing Kyler Murray and that offense to work down the field.
And if they could do that, they're gonna be what
a feather in the cap for Todd Orlando. I mean,
if if he's the coach who slows down Kyler Murray,
who has looked unstop in Oklahoma, kick another field goal
(50:41):
here and like third and six on Texas ten. If
if Texas pulls this off, then we start looking at
that Ohio State Northwestern game so much differently, because now
this has the personnel to outside. But what I'm saying
is like, because if if you guys are right in
Northwestern hangs with a out of stating and actually pulls
the upset, which I could see a pet fitzter Old
(51:03):
team doing, then who who makes that fourth spot in
the playoffs. That's my question. That's the million dollar question.
The computer will tell Yeah, I mean that, and that
you're gonna hear. I mean, it all depends upon because honestly,
to me, if you're asking me, I put you CF
Eventually at that point that it happens, you need to
(51:23):
put those guys. Is that even orm agedtting? That's that's
two things happening. Yeah, that's two. Really three. You need Alabama,
but we expect Alabama to beat Georgia because Georgia has
to have that second laws. You really need two things
to happen. You need Oklahoma and Ohio State to lose,
and then you SEEF is gonna be able to make
its case. And that's worth And if let's let's just
say it happens and you SEEF doesn't get in, UM
(51:44):
a team from a big power five school, they're not
getting in ever, right if they if they can't get in,
If those two things happen and they can't get in,
it's never happening. I think it says. It says the
system is beyond flawed, right right right. And look, we're
already here almost because you have you have a team.
(52:05):
It's on the Virgin not losing for two straight years, yes,
without having a correct I mean, so watch the point,
oh we want forty in a row. Now notice us
right at what point? They didn't play anybody though? It's true.
I mean, I know, I know it's hard to make.
They played somebody's Yeah, those somebodies were on their schedule.
The questions here, here's the question. Schedules for made years
(52:26):
and so it's not like people. So so what's coming
up is what's coming up is who wants to play
you CEF now nobody Like if if you're in the SEC,
are you taking that game? Now? SEC? Never. I'm just saying,
are you in the A c C. Are you taking
that game? Because you don't want to legitimize what they
are doing. If they if they beat you, then oh
(52:50):
my god. It's and I go back to this, I
go back to this. It's it's why, it's why Miami
stopped playing B y U. Miami took their undefeated. Oh
we we just wanted They went out to B y
U and got smashed. It was never playing him or
going up the Pro Bowl again. I'm just saying, we
play USC, we tied him, We don't want to play
was all burned against u c F last year and
(53:11):
look what happened for rich Sermonello, Gabe Maurenci and Marshall Falk.
I'm Joelisi. Have a great weekend everyone, We'll see you
next Saturday. Does your fantasy team suck? Maybe you need us,
(53:31):
the Fantasy sports radio network and the only
