Speaker 1 (00:03):
F A, T. S Y and Sports Grade Network present
Wall in his Hands by the hard Hardwood Takeaways. It's
what's up and welcome in. It is Hardwood Takeaways, NBA
(00:26):
Tradeline edition. That's right today as you're listening to this,
it is the NBA Trade Deadline. I'm your host, Chris Welch.
You can find me on Twitter at is It the
Welsh and right here on Sports Grade you can catch
Hardwood Takeaways every day of the week, Monday through Friday
with Scott Bogman and myself. Now, Scott Bogman is going
to be here tomorrow to have a post NBA Trade
deadline conversation with you, because there are still trades to
(00:49):
be had. You're listening to this on the morning or
maybe the afternoon of the NBA Trade deadline three pm
Eastern on Thursday. We had trades go down on Wednesday.
We've got open conversation pieces around some trades, plus we
had some games. So what I'm gonna do is I'm
gonna recap some of the trades on Wednesday, talk to
you about and recap some of the games on Wednesday,
(01:10):
and set you up for what to be on the
lookout for on Thursday. Whoas bombs. That is what we
got on Wednesday. Here are here's an update on some
of the trades that we're going down. Detroit had been
discussing a trade with Phoenix on Luke Kennard and apparently,
as uh Adrian more Zanowski's reported, there's kind of an
impass right now and it's over the protection on the
Sun's first round pick that would be involved in this trade.
(01:32):
There was also a rumor going around that the Phoenix
Suns were dangling Kelly Bray and making him available. In
trade talk, John Gambadoro and Phoenix kind of left this open.
You know that he didn't he didn't necessarily see the
Sun's being active about moving him, but it doesn't mean
that they wouldn't do that. So that was kind of
one of the earlier trade pieces that had been floating around.
(01:55):
No trades that had finished and finalized or you know,
air quotes finalized. We have a three way trade with
Miami Memphis in Oklahoma City. The problem is is we
don't have all the pieces now. We do know the
biggest main piece was andre Iguadala going to the Heat.
That was kind of the biggest one. We also have
a report that Justice Winslow is going to go from
(02:16):
the Heat to Memphis, and there's also a conversation about
Danilo Gallinari could be going to the Heat. The other
pieces the kind of unknown at this time. Adrian wore
Danowski kind of talks about how Gala goes to Miami.
Could Oklahoma City get Miami to lift their protections on
a first round pick that the Heat, Oh, the Thunder,
(02:37):
that could be a part of this trade. It's a
protected as a top four teen, so you could see
something like that involved. But what we do know is
andre Iguadala is on the Heat, Justice Winslow is going
to Memphis, and the other pieces we're kind of are
waiting to be seen at this point. So that was
a very interesting trade with three teams involved. You had
(02:57):
a Atlanta Hawks trade with Dwayne and Deadman returning to Atlanta,
and the Atlanta Hawks are sending Jabari Parker, Alex Lynn
and I believe two second round picks one of one
to the Sacramento Kings. So Deadman goes back to his
original stomping grounds in Atlanta. Has really compiled a set
of big Man now with the Clint Capella trade, Deadman
(03:19):
and now John Collins. That's a three hitted monster for
the big guys, Parker and Lynne. They move off to
a Sacramento for some more depth pieces and be interesting
to see how Harrison Barnes and Jabari Parker worked together.
I'm not quite sure how that one fits. And then
the late night trade saw the Golden State Warriors moved
Glenn Robinson the third and Alec Burke's to the Philadelphia
(03:39):
seventies Sixers for what looks like a host of picks.
A center. Sixers were sending the Warriors a second round
pick from Dallas, one second round pick from Denver, and
a second round pick from Toronto. So a whole bunch
of pieces that are kind of being floated out there.
So interestingly enough, one of those pieces and this could
(04:01):
what I kind of think could ultimately still be a
bigger piece to the Golden State Warriors, moving d'An Angela
Russell and potentially getting like Andrew Wiggins. The Golden State
Wears want more than Andrew Wiggins. They might want more players,
so you could, if you'd like, see this is like
a preemptive move that the Warriors get a couple of
players off get picks in lieu of knowing that they're
(04:22):
going to acquire a few more players. There's there's other
components kind of across the board. There's I believe the
Miami heat are um or the seventy six Years are
actually currently in the works of needing to clear up
space for their new acquisitions. So you've got teams that are,
you know, still kind of piecing all of this together.
So what you have with the trade deadline, which is
set for three p m. Eastern today, is you've got
(04:44):
surprises that can be in the wings. You've got the
and the Andrew Wiggins D'angela Russell conversation looming. The Nicks
seemed to be involved in conversations and trying to make
some things work. Apparently, um, the Nicks have talked with
the lake Is about a Kyle Kuzma trade that would
send Marcus Morris, and um, I believe it would just
(05:05):
send Marcus Morris to l A and then you'd have
Kyle Kuzman Danny Green having to move. So there's some
money pieces that would be involved. So you've got the
Knicks involved in some trade talk with Marcus Morris, the
Lakers with Kyle Kuzma, D'Angelo russell Um, Andrew Wiggins, and
then we also know Gallinari is still still floating out there.
Those are the things we know for the trade deadline.
(05:27):
That doesn't mean there aren't any surprises in the wings.
I have heard, and I think other people have heard,
some other names of a surprise that have appeared. You know,
we've heard Bradley Beale, that's one that's popped up, Buddy Healed,
Dennis Shrewder that was reported there was the Lakers and
inquired about Dennis Shrewder in a trade. So, uh well,
I mean, we also know that Derren Collinson is kind
of floating out there and that he would theoretically be
(05:49):
signing at some point soon. So Drew Holiday another one
of those guys where there seems to kind of be
uh an idea that he is going to be moved.
Just nobody really know is what it is. So you know,
you don't you hate to get too excited and you
hate to get your expectations up, you know, to a
point that you can't come back from with the trade deadline,
Because the NBA trade deadline does know how to disappoint.
(06:11):
It has done it in the past. Where we get
all super excited and we look back and we're like, well,
you know, the majority of the good trades were actually
done two or three days before. That could still be
the case, you know, the Russell trade may not happen
for the Warriors, you know, and the biggest trade could
have been that Capella one. But I have a feeling,
and I think I've said this before though, but I
have a feeling that Thursday has got some good stuff
(06:31):
ahead of us. Yeah, I don't think it's gonna be
because Chandler Parsons was waived and he finds a new team.
I think you're gonna see some of these big names moved.
I think Holiday, I think Russell, I think Wiggins make
a lot of sense. I'm not sure Kuzma fits the Lakers,
and Kevin Love is still floating out there. That's one
that's just kind of float on the radar. You know,
Kevin Love didn't doesn't want to be on that team,
(06:51):
so maybe one happens for that. I think it's going
to be an explosive NBA trade deadline, And I'm just
breaking down what happened on Wednesday. Bob Ones got you
covered for tomorrow, So get ready for all the excitement.
We have got a live reaction podcast over on in
this league for the trade deadline. There's a lot of
other good coverage out there, but what will be good
about Tomorrow's Hardwood Takeaways is Bogwin will have some time
(07:14):
to really digest will be you know, sit back, kind
of really process them, and it will probably be a
show very dedicated to um what goes down for the
trade deadline. But I got you covered there, set you
up with the rumors. So let's take a look at
what went down on Wednesday. As teams are kind of
you know, this is that last moment, you know, that
last moment for teams to really figure out who they are.
(07:35):
You know, I talked yet yesterday about you know, maybe
the Phoenix Suns don't know who they are. Maybe they're
not quite sold on exactly the team they want to be.
Maybe they think, well, you know, ten games out, just
add another piece, maybe we could really fight for this. Well,
Wednesday could have been a determining factor and take it
with the Phoenix Suns. They played the Detroit Pistons, who
they're in trade talks with, and they lost one six
(07:55):
team to one oh eight and they lost to a
eight teen win team at the time him in the
Detroit Pistons. Now the Phoenix Suns falled a twenty and
thirty one over on Phoenix is In. Kelly you bra
if it was his last game, he was huge. It
was huge. He played forty two minutes in this one.
In fact, for four of the five starters for the
Suns played forty plus minutes because essentially everybody was injured
(08:18):
and inactive for this game. So Kelly Ray played forty
two minutes. He scored thirty points with five rebounds. DeAndre
Eton played forty one minutes. He was twelve or eight
team from the field twenty six and twelve with four
blocks and four assists. Great game. Devin Booker another forty
two minutes, twenty two points, seven assists, hit a couple
of threes, and bridges played forty two minutes in this one,
(08:39):
scoring thirteen points. There was a combined thirty seven minutes
played from the bench as a whole. As a whole,
the entire bench played thirty seven minutes for the five
starters played more than that. The Phoenix Suns a shot
fifty four percent from the field. They hit twelve threes,
nothing bad, but the Pistons were just better. Andre Drummond
absolutely dominated the Phoenix Suns, which has been their problem
(09:02):
in the past with big men thirty one points, nineteen rebounds,
four assists, three steals in thirty eight minutes. He was
fourteen for nineteen. Reggie Jackson put on a show, hit
ten field goals, ten of twenty four and thirty four minutes,
five threes with twenty five points and nine assists. Off
the bench, Christian would twenty one points and eight rebounds,
and Galloway fifteen points in thirty minutes. No Derek Rose
(09:24):
in this one, but it was enough. Twelve threes, they
hit forty six of ninety five on the field goal
and they outscored the Phoenix Suns to twenty two in
the final quarter. And I believe they only the second
quarter was the Phoenix Suns was the spot where the
Phoenix Suns had any type of a lead in the game.
Otherwise Detroit kind of ran away with it. So could
(09:45):
this be a snag where the Phoenix Suns are less
aggressive on Kenard? Maybe they want Canard in the long
term and they're also shopping Kelly. You bre the conversation
about Kelly u Bree could also be relative to trying
to make the talks work with um Detroit for you
know this protected pick. So the Phoenix Suns look to
be in some capacity involved in the trade deadline that's
(10:06):
coming up, whether their buyers or sellers are a little
bit of both, I think that's something to be on
the lookout for. A fantastic game. Fantastic game in the East,
the Raptors beat the Pacers one, nineteen to one eight
teen that they got their thirty seventh win of the year.
On the Pacers side, for the starters, Malcolm Brogden twenty
four point, six rebounds, six assists, hit four threes and
(10:27):
thirty four minutes. Demonus Sabonis had a triple double fifteen points,
eleven rebounds, Tennisis and the guy that has been rumored
as available in trades, Miles Turner played twenty four minutes
only six points with seven rebounds. Interesting name to watch.
Oladipo up to twenty five minutes scored thirteen points, but
off the bench justin holiday twenty two points, five rebounds,
(10:48):
and Doug McDermott had nineteen points with four threes. They
hit nineteen threes in this game, and shot over fifty
two percent, so they were great. Raptors were just better.
Pascal siakam five points, nine rebounds with five assists in
forty minutes. He was ten for eleven from the free
throw line. You had multiple thirty point scores. Kyle Lowry
thirty eight minutes, had thirty two points, eight rebounds, ten assists,
(11:12):
maybe his best game of the year. And Serge Vaka
scored thirty points with seven rebounds, three assists, also hit
a couple of threes. He was thirteen of twenty one.
He was great. They shot over fifty percent from the field,
and the Raptors were just better. And they outscored the Pacers.
They I mean they had they were trailing in the
fourth quarter, but they outscored the Pacers thirty seven to
thirty two in the final quarter. So Raptors win one
(11:35):
nineteen one eighteen magic and Boston. Boston wins at home
one sixteen to one hundred route by the Boston Celtics.
That was their thirty fifth win of the year. Orlando
still can just not get close enough to get to
that five marker. For Orlando, Aaron Gordon twenty three points
with ten rebounds, four assists in thirty one minutes. He
(11:56):
was seven of fifteen from the field. Evan four twenty
six point on four rebounds, with eight for fifteen from
the field. Hit six threes in this one, just about
half of them. Terrence Ross he scored eight teen points
off the bench, Michael Carter Williams scored twelve, and it
was slogo for the rest of the crew. Marko Folds
only put up four shot attempts in thirty minutes. I
(12:16):
didn't mention Nikolabusevits twelve points, ten rebounds, but five of
twelve from the field. Just poor percentages, poor production overall
from Orlando and Boston. Is not a team that you
can get away with that with Jason Tatum thirty three points,
eight rebounds, five assists, three steals, two blocks, and thirty
nine minutes with five threes all over the place. Gordon
(12:37):
Hayward he played thirty five minutes, was ten for sixteen
from the field twenty three, seven and seven. Great game.
And Jalen Brown scored eight teen points in thirty eight minutes.
A lot of guys off the bench didn't matter. They
shot fifty six percent from the three point line and
fifty three and a half percent from the field. Boston
wins one. The Brooklyn Nets absolutely stomped the Golden State
(12:59):
Warrior where the Warriors did not have a single quarter
where they even scored twenty five points. That's right, they
scored under twenty in the third quarter. They never and
I should have said over twenty five points. They scored
twenty five in the first quarter. They did not surpass
that the rest of the game. They lost one, twenty
nine to eighty eight to the Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn got
their twenty third win of the season. Four Golden State
(13:22):
D'Angelo Russell maybe his last game, seventeen points, seven for
ten from the field and thirty three minutes. Last game
for the Warriors. Pascal played uh thirty three minutes. He
scored fifteen points with five rebounds. Pretty low output from
the rest of the starters, and Burkes and Robinson were
already out of the game for the trade happenings. In
the trade talks pull off. The bench scored sixteen points,
(13:45):
but they were five of thirty nine from the three
point line and shot under thirty seven percent. I mean,
Golden State is just trying to get this thing right
for the future. That's all that they're thinking about right now.
Maybe they get Wiggins, You're gonna have Curry back soon.
Just trying to build this roster for the future, and
they got some young pieces that had a lot of
that got a lot of production. You know, if you
were to put guys like Pascal and Pool in part
(14:07):
of the bench rotation, it looks pretty good, but you
just don't want them as the main starters. Over on
the net side, Carris Leavert led the way for the
starters and the team, scoring twenty three points with eight
assists in twenty seven minutes. Jared Allen only had four
points but had thirteen rebounds and eighteen minutes. Joe Harris
scored seventeen with nine rebounds off the bench, Curricks twelve
(14:31):
points with five rebounds, and Gandre Jordan's ten points seven
rebounds From the field. They took a clean one hundred
shots and made fifty one of them for the Nets.
Next game up the Oklahoma City Thunder, they beat the
Calves one on nine, one oh three. And this is
what makes them a difficult team to gauge if they
were involved in the three team trade, because they're thirty
(14:52):
one and twenty on the year. They are and the
cat I mean, it has only thirteen wins, but Oklahoma
is firmly in a playoff rates, So how active do
they want to be in moving A guy liked Nlo Gallinari,
who is in their starting lineup, played thirty one minutes
in this game. Scored fifteen points of five rebounds. We
don't know yet since we're here. S g A twenty
three points, ten rebounds with three assists and a couple
(15:14):
of blocks, and thirty nine minutes. A forest man Chris
Paul twelve points, seven assists in thirty minutes off the bench.
Dennis Shrewder. The Lakers called about, hey, what's up with Shrewder?
And Oklahoma said, we're good, you don't have what we need.
Scored thirty points off the bench with six assists, ten
for seven team. From the field, they only hit nine
threes in this game, but shot forty six percent over
(15:37):
on Cleveland side. Kevin Love twenty point seven rebounds, five
assists and what has become an absolutely just dead quiet
trade market talk around him. I just don't know what's happened.
Colin Sexton twenty three points in thirty five minutes. He
was nine for eight team from the field. The rest
of the starters were relatively quietly scored double digits. John
John Henson had a double double ten points, eleven rebounds,
(15:58):
but just not much else there for Cleveland, a thirteen
win team, the Hawks, who have been very busy. They
beat the Minnesota timber Wolves one seven to one twenty
even when they let Minnesota put up forty three points
in the fourth quarter, didn't matter for Atlanta. Atlanta now
fourteen and thirty eight, Minnesota dropping fifteen and thirty five
(16:19):
four Minnesota Karl Anthony Town's twenty one points with eleven rebounds.
Andrew Wiggins, maybe his last game with the Wolves, twenty
five points, seven rebounds. He was nine for twenty from
the field, COG twenty three points. He was eight for
eleven from the field and thirty seven minutes looking good.
McLoughlin off the bench fifteen points. Nas Reid had ten
points off the bench. Uh the team only nine threes
(16:42):
for twenty five percent from the field. Over on Atlanta's side,
Trey Young thirty eight points, hit six threes in this one,
was twelve or thirteen from the free throw line. Also
had eleven assists and four rebounds. John Collins twenty seven
points with twelve rebounds. DeAndre Hunter scored twelve. I mean,
just think of what this team is doing, and they're
(17:02):
just about to come in and add Clint Capela and
Dwayne Deadman's coming back. Tillia not competitive this year, but Atlanta.
Atlanta is going to be competitive and going to be
competing for a playoff spot next year. And they're gonna
be led by Trey Young. And this just you know,
barrage of big men that they've added, which it's smart.
You know, They've got Jeff Tigue, They've brought in Cam
(17:23):
Reddish in the draft. They've got now Collins, Capella, and Dedmond.
I am completely all about this team for the Grizzlies.
They beat the Dallas Mavericks one one to one oh seven,
kind of a surpriser, and now Memphis is over five
hundred with a twenty six and twenty five record. Dallas
drops to thirty one and twenty on the Maverick side.
(17:43):
Porzingis thirty two points with twelve rebounds. He was ten
for twenty from the field, hit five threes in this one.
Brunson twenty points of six assists. A lot of guys
off the bench, not a whole bunch of else in
production wise. They did hit seventeen threes on this one,
led by Porzingis for the grizz leaves though John Morant
twenty one points with three assists in thirty one minutes.
(18:04):
Jaren Jackson Jr. Had nineteen points, six rebounds, three assists.
Boy Dylan Brooks and scored thirt team points. But he
got a contract extension, a three year contract extension. As
this team is making their moves and they're about to
add Justice Winslow to this lineup, which totally makes sense.
This is I mean, these guys are all of those
type of Justice Winsless stuff and things players. Kyle Anderson,
(18:27):
who was like a poor, poor poor man's Justice Winslow.
He was in the starting lineup back you know, this
is like a back in the day type of thing
when he was a popular name last year. But six
points not great, but had five rebounds, six assists and
a steel a little bit of everything. Off the bench.
Brendon Clark had eight teen points and six rebounds, and
the team hit twelve threes and now over five hundred.
(18:48):
You know, Iguadala wasn't doing anything for them. They're gonna
bring in Justice Winslow and whatever else this trade does.
Not saying they're a scary team, but they're very interesting
competitive team. Uh the Nuggets and the Jazz. Nuggets beat
the Jazz ninety eight to ninety five. The Jazz thirties
two and eighteen, now where the Nuggets moved to thirty
six and sixteen. On the Jazz side, Mike Conley, he
(19:09):
dropped twenty one points with eight rebounds and five assists
in thirty four minutes. Donovan Mitchell only eight for twenty
four from the field. That hurt them a decent amount.
Rudy Gobert had a double double sixteen and fourteen and
Bogdanovitch sixteen five with five assists. Off the bench, Jordan
Clarkson scored sixteen. They only shot forty one point nine
percent from the field for the Nuggets. Nicola Yokich had
(19:31):
a stupid triple double thirty points, twenty one rebounds with
tennessis how about two steals as well? In forty minutes
he was fourteen for twenty four from the field. Good
Lord Jamal Murray, he had thirty one points to go
with forty three minutes. He hit four threes in this one,
and only two players off the bench played. I mean
this was a starter barrage. Three of the guys played
(19:53):
over forty minutes, the others were thirty six minutes or above.
They only hit seven threes, only fort but it was
just enough to get it done, and they outscored the
Utah Jazz twenty and the fourth quarter and Utah only
scored scored thirty eight second half points, so that's what
ultimately killed them. And then the final game of the
night was the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Clippers.
(20:14):
The Heat making some moves and they need it coming
off of not a great game here. They lost one
eleven to one twenty eight. The Clippers now thirty six
and fifteen. Miami falls to thirty four and sixteen. Then
out of Byou twenty two points, eleven rebounds, six assists
in forty minutes. Jimmy Butler was eleven with seven assists.
None was in there with thirteen points. A Link only
(20:34):
had seven in the starting lineup, and Jones had twenty
five points with nine rebounds and thirty one minutes off
the bench and Dragics thirteen four and five. As Miami
making some moves over on the Clippers side. I know
they've been poking around. I don't know if they're gonna
be able to pull anything off. Paul George had twenty
three points and ten rebounds. Kawhi Leonard only played thirty
one minutes, was only five or thirteen from the field
(20:56):
and only had fourteen points, but did have seven assists
and our seven reboun to nine assists. Off the bench.
They had four players scored double digits UH Cement twenty
three points of six assists. They have been linked in
conversations with the New York Knicks. Lou Williams had fourteen points,
Montreal Harold fourteen points, seven rebounds, and Green twelve points,
five rebounds. I hit twenty four threes in this one.
(21:19):
The Clippers dominated this game UH three of the four quarters.
They scored thirty points for a one one eleven win.
And that, friends, is everything that I got for you.
There's a lot, There's a lot more. I mean, I'm
telling you, you know, the woe just keeping busy on
Wednesday night as I'm recording this, you know, the Burkes
(21:40):
and the Glenn Robinson trade just went down to Philly.
There's more to be had when you wake up and
you're hearing this, there might be another trade or two,
some of the ones I've speculated on, some bigger names.
Follow up that final hour. That's where it's gonna get big,
that two to three pm Eastern hour, even up to
the minute, and bog Win's gonna have you covered right
here in Hardwood Takeaways on The sport wors Grade tomorrow.
(22:01):
I'm your host, Chris Welch. Though I hope you guys
have a fantastic, fantastic Thursday enjoying this NBA trade deadline.
I know I always get stoked for it, and we'll
have you covered tomorrow right here. I'm hardly takeaways
