Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, and welcome to another edition of Community DC.
I'm your host Dennis Glasgow. This morning we get a
chance to talk about a heritage company that has been
in the DMV and working with several charities for many,
many years, and that is FH FURR and their relationship
with the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. James
Morgan is the market president from fh FURR who will

(00:21):
be joining us to talk about the second annual Holiday
Cheer with Toys for Tot's campaign. FH for Plumbing, Heating,
air Conditioning and Electrical announced the launch of its second
annual holiday campaign and partnership with the Marine Corps Toys
for Tots Foundation. From now through December fifteenth of this year,
fh FUR will donate one hundred percent of the revenue
from every heating inspection to help Toys for Tots bring

(00:44):
joy to children in need this holiday season. Toys for Tots,
the courses founded by the United States Marine Corps Reserve,
is dedicated to ensuring every child experience is the magic
of the holidays by collecting new unwrapped toys for the
less fortunate children of the community. Now FH FUR there
is honored to join forces with Toys for Tots to
bring smiles to children across the Greater DC, Delaware, Maryland,

(01:05):
and Virginia regions including Baltimore, Northern Virginia, and Richmond. And
we'll give this website several times during the interview, but
just to make sure you know where to go, it
is fhfur dot com for more information on their Toys
for Tot's charity program. Over the next thirty minutes, you'll
find out how you can donate to a worthy cause
with either a heating checkup that turns into a donation

(01:26):
or a toy drop off at select locations of FHFUR.
So here's my conversation with James. I hope you enjoy
it as much as I did. Good morning, James, Good morning.
It is a pleasure to talk to you and what
FHFUR Plumbing, Heating, air conditioning and electrical are doing for
Toys for Tots. When I was looking over your web
page and I kind of knew this about you guys

(01:46):
being a local company, but you're really big time into
charities and that you're in for Toys for Tots And
as my intro said nineteen forty seven, Toys for Tots
has been around for started by somebody in the Marine Corps,
and I know it's your second annual partnership. Can you
tell me though, I know you do a lot of
charity work with the company, but white Toys for Tots
it makes sense to me. But why are you guys

(02:07):
getting involved? Oh wow?

Speaker 2 (02:08):
So FA char just loves to be part of organizations
that are continuously looking for ways to develop its current
programs to reach more people, more people in need, and
Toys for Tots is one of those organizations that's done
that and has been proven great success in reaching kids
and needs with toys to just show them that they're

(02:29):
loved and they're cared for. And that ties succinctly with
FH four and what we love to do for our communities.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Well, I love to hear that. And one of the
other cool things that I know is really important to
you and your team is trying to work with the military.
And as we mentioned, started by a military person, and
there's so many different military charities out there, and that
the military does his Toys for Tots and it has
been around for I guess seventy seven plus years. It's
a real big deal. But that you're local that you're
in the DMV working with the military Toys for Tots,

(02:58):
that makes a lot of sense to imagine.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Oh know, absolutely, and uh, you know that's something that
you know, our founder of f H. Fur over forty
two years ago, you know, at one point was in
the military and served for the Marines, mister Furr, And
you know, we're just grateful for the action that he's
taken to also be to drive a vision to want
to get back to communities and we've been able to

(03:20):
expand on that as we've partnered here you know the
last couple of years with Toys for Tots and supporting
those in our communities.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
So it's just a grateful thing for us to be
part of.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
So, James, I did want to mention about the Marine
Corps memorial. You had kind of a meetup with Toys
for Tots and I hear was pretty special. Can you
tell us about it?

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Yeah, no, absolutely, you know, one of our very own
actually owned car Ranadi met the Marines out there at
the Marine Corps Memorial there November eighth and was able
to kind of get things really launched and kicked off
wards and start getting the word out about this opportunity
to get back to Toys for Tots, and uh so

(03:57):
that just super meaningful for us and would be a
part of that, and having one of our own team
members who served in our services for our country right
to help represent that, it's just fantastic for us.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
And again, it was so grateful to.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Be a part of that opportunity as we see this
kickoff here and just get this one for Toys for Tots, so.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
I know you've got a cool deal. That's twenty nine
dollars that we're going to talk about in a second
that all goes for Toys for Tots, which is really
generous of you and the company and everything that you do.
And we'll get into the minutia about all of that,
but I did want to talk about your charity work overall,
even though we are here to talk about Toys for
Tots and there's a deadline of December fifteenth, and we're
going to give everybody website information you can check out more.

(04:40):
There's videos or stuff to read and easy way to
make donations. So we'll get into all that, I promise
over the next thirty minutes. But you were telling a
little bit about ownership and mister fur and I just
love it. As I was going down all the different
charities and there are a lot that you guys work with.
It seems like it's kind of an annual thing of
working for all the different charities and sounds like it's

(05:00):
really important. And I imagine as you talk to your
team members and everybody the works at fh FOR, that
is really an important aspect about being there with the
culture and giving back, would I be correct?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Oh, no, absolutely, you know, and that's one thing at
our organization. You know, we really encourage and even challenge
some team members to take on special projects right and
get engagement. It's just so great to see the smiles
on the faces of even our own team members and
co workers here at fh FOR when they get involved

(05:34):
in our communities and help with things like toys for tots.
You know, we have some boxes that we're using to
collect toys from our own team members to provide those
toys for those children to need, as well as many
of our other charities, whether it's road clean up around
our communities or other charities as well. It's just something
that we really encourage our employees to get involved in

(05:56):
and like to highlight those things throughout the year and
the different seasons, the different things that come up, and
of course this time of year, you know, as we
come through the holiday season. It's just a very important
thing to show the love and care and consideration that
we have for our communities.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
You know. James, the other thing, and I had mentioned culture,
you know, whether it's sports, or whether it's a radio station,
or whether it's FH for I think that, you know,
especially in twenty twenty four, when you have a culture
that gives back that's really important to team members and
employees that you talked about, I imagine the feedback that
you get back. There's always suggestions of hooking up with
a new charity or that I love that you're a

(06:31):
part of this, but it sounds like as far as
a culture there, it's just wonderful. I imagine that the
feedback is also good from the employees. Would I be
correcting that.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yes, no, absolutely, And it's great because there are so
many opportunities that our employees do get involved in and
they start challenging each other. Actually, I had one of
our office managers recently approached me at a different at
one of the locations that here the Virginuous several locations here, right,

(07:01):
but out of Ashbourne and Austiners said, hey, James, we've
got a couple of events coming up. You know which
one would you like to support us and be part of, right,
And so I was able to give them the date
that I'd love to take my family up to to
support the community and being involved in that charity. And
so our employees are engaged and challenge but also even

(07:23):
bring to us various opportunities that they're observing as ways
to give back within their own neighborhoods and communities. So
that's that's huge for us to see the hearts of
our people extend to.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
Other areas in which they're able to give back.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
And that's part of the culture that we want to
drive here at our company, and being able to really
just express care and consideration for people in need or
people that have maybe things that they aren't able to
meet for themselves, right, and just show them that hey,
you know, we are a community of people that are
considerate and want to help each other.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Well, that's well said, James, and I can hear your
passion about this, and I imagine that funnels down to
all the team members and the staff and the employees.
And this is the second annual that's coming up. As
we mentioned, there's a deadline of December fifteenth, and we'll
start to get into that about how you can donate.
Can you I don't know if you know it, but
can you tell the origin story about why this started
a couple of years ago, who picked Toys for Tots

(08:21):
and why exactly you did it beside what we talked
about already.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Yeah, So Toys for Tots is just one of those
things that our company when we consider the fact that
it's families, right, that we serve in our community with
the services that we provide, right, and so it ties
in very directly with what we do as a company,

(08:45):
and that there are kids out there of all ages
that need toys of all sorts, right, and that we're
able to be able to be partnering with that and
with those team members. And so this is something that
has an organist. You know, our team as a whole
was involved in, right. So our leadership team from our

(09:06):
CEO and others of us, and our leadership team and
also just management staff just being SAO say hey, this
is an organization that just makes sense for us and
something that we can all care about and get behind,
and everyone even bringing up other ideas about some things
that we can do internally.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
I know on the radio so you can't see my smile,
but there are so.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Many things that are talked about and having even like
internal contests with people to.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Just say, hey, let's give more, let's do more.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
What can that look like, right, and just encourage each
other to do that and really embrace that vision of
the company to give back in this way with Toys
for Tots.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
All right, And also some numbers for everybody out there,
and this is from the Toys for Tots website. To date,
they've distributed six hundred and seventy seven million toys to
three hundred and one million deserving children. And I imagine as
you see that, and we're going to have our little
sliver of the world here, James. But that's an extraordinary
number of what they've done over the years, which makes

(10:07):
it pretty easy to be a part of something like that,
isn't it?

Speaker 2 (10:10):
Oh? Absolutely, just just that growth is a demonstration of
passion and vision and forward thinking, right, and just an
organization that's progressive and its desire to expand on its
services to our communities and that ties very up really

(10:32):
with our organization, right, you know, and and just hearing
hearing about what the impact has been over the years
of Toys for Cots is just tremendous, right And again
we're just a small part of that, but even as
small as that part is, it's something that we are
truly proud of. Right And as an organization, you know,
we'll serve over one hundred thousand customers in the d

(10:54):
m V area each year, right and as a as
a company, we have one thousand employees in our organization.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
That's why you see our trucks on the road with
the guy on the back waving to you, right.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
And again, you know we are we want to be
also known as that company that you know, charities can
call us and tell us of things that they have
needs for so that you know, we do consider some
of those opportunities. We're able to give back to those
organizations that are identifying needs of people that are are

(11:27):
in different places in their lives, that are looking for
love and support and we want to give that for them.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
Well, I appreciate you seeing that, and folks will give
the website at the end and all the different links
and things that you need for this. So there are
a couple of different ways that people can be a
part of this. And I don't know how long it
took to come up with the idea, especially with it
being called out, so it makes a lot of sense
about what you're offering up and once again I love
the generosity between the company, you and your team. But James,

(11:54):
why don't we go away through the different kind of
levels that you can be a part of Toys for
Todds up to that deadline of December fifteenth for all
our listeners here?

Speaker 3 (12:01):
Yeah, no, absolutely so for us, right, we want to
give back.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
We're not just giving toys internally as you know, part
of being part of the community right and our team members.
But you know with this promotion that we have this
twenty nine dollars heating tune up that you can call about,
and those proceeds from that twenty nine dollars for every
single one is going to go towards and be giving

(12:26):
to to Toys for Tots to help those in need. Right,
So please reach out to us. You can go to
our website and book that opportunity. You can call in
to our organization right and book that opportunity. One, we'll
give you a peace of mind knowing that hey, you know,
I'm actually you know, giving something back to the community
that way, but also getting something out of it.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
And with that peace of mind knowing.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
That your system is operational and ready to go for
the cooler days ahead in the winter.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
And why I say generous because you know, usually it
would probably be a little bit more folks to get
a tune up and take a look at your h
back and your heating. But a lot of that money
in the twenty nine dollars is going back into the charity,
and I think that's where the generosity is. I love
that idea of James.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Yeah, no, absolutely, you know, And that allows us to
be able to when we offer this promotion, to make
it more affordable for people to take advantage off right
and being able to give back right and it is
important to include more of our community in that, but
also seeing the benefit in their own home as well.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
So, now when it comes to physical toys, and I
know you've got a lot of different stores, is there
kind of a setup that people can drop off toys
at your locations and boxes or do you have any
other way that people can donate.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Yeah, and so those locations that we're talking about those
toys can be donated and dropped off are our ASH
Firm location, are Glenn Bernie, Maryland location, our Georgetown location
in Delaware, and then are important Virginia location as well.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
So those are locations.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Where those can be dropped off and we'd love to
take those and end up give those Toys for.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
Tots foundation as well.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
We'll let you know here that our goal is to
have raised up to ten thousand dollars, So we talk
about that twenty.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Nine dollars tune up. You know, our goal there is
to get up to ten thousand dollars and.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
So help us achieve that so we can make that
donation and you know you're part of that as being
part of our communities and go a long way for
Toys for Tots.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
So, James, tell me a little bit about the feedback
from the community. The company has been around for a
very long time, and I imagine that you have very
long standing customers and I guess this goes with all
the charities that you work with, but you know, I
imagine a lot of families have children, grandchildren. What kind
of feedback have you been getting through the staff and
also maybe people that you talk to randomly about being

(14:59):
involved for the second annual with your company and Toys
for Tots. What's the feedback been like, Yeah, no.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Really, it's awesome to hear about how just the longevity
of this program is something that spans for generations, right,
and how people you have heard about it for years
and years and years, and so as well, that's important
to us and partnering and being selective with some of

(15:27):
these organizations that we partner with, organizations that are considering
the long term engagement and investment back into our communities.
As a business that's been in business for over forty
three years, right, it's important to us because we are
a business that wants to continue to provide services for
our communities, right, And so that's just something that's fantastic

(15:53):
for us.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
So, I know, sometimes when you work with a charity
or you try something out new. We mentioned this is
the second annual partnership with for Tots, I imagine that
you know, some things really work and some don't. And
obviously you doing the second annual, it worked, but after
you did it, you know, he came up with the
original idea of doing it. You did that last year
and for the holidays, and now the second annual, what

(16:14):
what worked really well and what did you try and
improve on And as far as feedback was concerned, any
new ideas to make it even bigger and better.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Yeah, you know, we were able to do very well
last year and having customers or communities right call in
and book that twenty nine dollars two up even a
year ago, so that were able to give those proceeds
at that time, and so we're like, wow, this is
this is very successful, you know for Toys for Tots.

(16:44):
So so yeah, let's do it again, right, And so
at this time, you know, we had more strategy with
our team and getting the word out and so we've
already seen great success and people out there and home
owners out there booking these tune ups so that we're
able to give those proceeds back to Toys for Tots,
and so it's just been exciting to see that, right,

(17:05):
and we certainly want to make sure that everyone hears
about it and it's able to take advantage of this
opportunity so that they know that they are part of
something that's greater as a whole, right and as everyone knows,
there's definitely a great feeling of being part of something
bigger than of ourselves but with our communities.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Right, So, James, I'm curious about, you know, maybe stories,
and you may or may not have one, so I'm
kind of hitting you cold on this. But after doing
it last year for the first time, did you get
feedback from any families or any staff members or from
the national Toys for Tots where not only did they
say thank you and doing what you're doing regionally, but

(17:46):
was there any kind of a cool story that came
out of this that you know that they were stoked
that you were part of this, or you really touched
some certain families life. Did you get to get any
feedback or any cool stories that came out of it.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Yeah, So I personally didn't get stories from families, but
we did, you know, get that uh that welcome and
open arms from the Toys for Tots uh community organization. Right.
They were just ecstatic when we had to agree to
work with them again, and we wanted to write I mean, honestly,
that's just what it was.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
And so there was something that was really.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Exciting for us just to see the excitement there with
them behind the scenes to to make this happen for
these kids. And so it is something that we're proud
to do and just continue to look forward to do,
uh for our communities, and just we know that it
is touching the lives of so many people out there,

(18:41):
right and uh and again just seeing the smiles on
the faces of our employees who then themselves are are
getting uh you know, back to our kids, the kids
in our communities.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
So it's just great for them.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
Well, I appreciate that. And you know the one thing
when you know that something works, you keep on going
with it. So let's talk about the deadline, because I
know there's a December fifteenth deadline coming up and that
on the timing of it will be just a little
bit under a month as we air this show. But
with all that said, there is time. But I imagine you're

(19:15):
encouraging people sooner than later, whether it's the tune up
or dropping off at those specific locations a toy. We
want to make sure that we get by the deadline, correct,
and before December fifteenth or on December fifteenth, correct, No.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
Absolutely right, So timelines are important for all of this, right,
and making sure that these kids are able to have
this experience, you know, during the time of the holidays, right,
and so you know that allows the opportunity for us
to do what we need to do with those working
behind the scenes at Toys for Tots and those military

(19:51):
service members that are also supporting this, right as they're
organizing the collections and putting things together and getting them distributed.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
In time for the kids, right.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
And so timing is a big deal for organization, as
we understand that's important for communities and those that even
book the twenty nine dollars team up that gets donated
to the Toys for Tots, right, and we want to
make sure that we are leaning into that and make
sure that we are also understanding of our customers in
our community's time when we book those appointments as well,

(20:22):
and getting that done by that timeline in the middle
of December.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
So you know, I'm going to make an educated guest,
but I didn't want to assume, and we didn't talk
about this much off the top of our interview and
asking you about the National Toys for Tots, But I
imagine with a heritage, local company that's been around and
worked with charities for so long, and also you have
a big military presence that you love to work with
when it comes to charity work. If that presents itself.

(20:48):
I imagine when you originally and your team reached out for
the Toys for Tots people at a national level that
they were thrilled that a local heritage company that was
in the DMV heavy millie terry presence. Uh, they must
have been just thrilled that you guys actually wanted to
partner up with them.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
Yeah, no, absolutely right, and and that's something that really
has been important for us and being able to express
you know that, you know, we are a company of
heritage within our communities and have been around uh for
for many many years, and uh support that that we

(21:25):
you know, want to give for our service members right
of of all branches of service. Uh, something you know
in our arts and important to us and part of
the core of our business as we have many that
work in our company that have served in our military courses.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
So we're just.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
Grateful for that and rightfully be part of an organization
that also has benefitted from that and tools for cause,
you know, even at a national level, and uh, you know,
our business has grown over the years and serving the
DMV area and even further beyond that, and so something
that's exciting for us and just embracing that with open

(22:08):
arms of Toys for Tots as it is a national organization,
so it's exciting for us.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
Sure, and I imagine with the feedback your enthusiasm as
well as all the people that are a part of
this and then your customers, things go well. I imagine
this could be a pretty reoccurring annual thing hopefully.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
No, absolutely right. So we continuously work with our team
to make these types of programs a success for the
entity and program an organization that we're working with, such
as Toys for Tots, and our goal is that you know,
it being successful for them just makes it something that
we want to continue doing a year after year.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
Absolutely well, James, let's do this. Let's kind of wrap
up everything. I know, we've talked about a lot. There's
a lot of information for everybody to digest. But there
are once again a couple of ways folks, you can
be involved in this, either with a heating check for
twenty nine dollars or a drop off at specific location. So, James,
I'm going to leave it up to you if we
could kind of go through the different levels and the

(23:10):
things that people could do just to remind them once again,
we'll give your website any other kind of information you'd
like to give. There are specific locations for dropoff folks,
so I want you to make sure that you listen
to James about that, and it has to do with
access to your car and parking all that stuff and
so not all participating locations, there are several that James
will talk about, and also ways to donate or have

(23:31):
somebody come to your place and that money gets donated.
So James, once again, why don't you go through just
everything how people can be a part of this when
it comes to FH fear and also for toys for tots.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
Yeah, no, absolutelys and you know it's something that you know.
Just you can go online to our website fhfur dot
com and book that twenty nine dollars check or two
not right, and that's huge. You can also call in
to us as well at our organization to booked that
as well, and then you know, you could visit one

(24:04):
of our locations. Specifically, we have four that are taking
collections and donations. We have Ashbourne, Virginia, Lord in Virginia,
Glenn Burnie, Maryland and Georgetown, Delaware are are able to
collect those donations and those toys that we're able to
get those to the Toys for Pott's Organization Foundation, right,

(24:25):
and so to take the time to do that, that'd
be fantastic. And otherwise, just book that tune up, that
check up, a heating check up for your system. You're
home and we'll get those donations over there to Toys
for Toddson.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
Again, our goal is to get.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
Up to ten thousand dollars with this right of the
twenty nine dollars, So please take advantage of it.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
We want you and.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
Our communities out there to benefit from it as well,
knowing that you have peace of mind with your heating
system and going into the colder weather.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
So James, you know with a show in iHeart, you
know we have a great me and I think this
is a good opportunity to kind of wrap it up here.
I know you don't get a chance to meet every
customer and thank them not only for being clients and customers,
whether it's a one time or whether it's regularly an annual,
but with all the charities you work, there's a lot
of generosity out there when it comes to your clients,

(25:18):
specifically here when we're talking about toys for Tots and
working with FH FUR. With all that said, I just
want to kind of give the floor to you. Is
just thanking everybody out there for being a part of
this or if they're going to be a part of
it by December fifteenth. I think it's a great opportunity
just you kind of wrap up your thoughts and give
a big thank you to everybody and then we'll saya goodbyes.
But the floor is your, sir.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
I have one. I just thank you for having me
on here on iHeartRadio. But truly, you know those out
there and our communities and our customers, and whether you
choose us or whether you refer us to a neighbor
or a friend, we are truly grateful for even just
the consideration of select FH for those who out there

(26:02):
to partner with to help provide you peace of mind
in your home right.

Speaker 3 (26:06):
It is our goal that.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
Each person is able to live in a comfortable, safe,
healthy home and able to do that by taking advantage
of this twenty nine dollars heat being check this winner,
and we certainly appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
Because that allows us to continue to give to such great.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
Charity organization, right, and so just so grateful for that
and just a great opportunity for us.

Speaker 4 (26:32):
And I'm born and raised here in the DNB area
and I can't appreciate enough to be able to take
some time to just say thank you to everyone in
this area and in our communities and being part of
giving too.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
Toys for Todds and other charities. So appreciate it so
so much.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
Well, James, thank you for all the kind words to
everybody that's working on us, and thank you to you
and your team too. And once again, I just want
to reiterate the point, you know, being in the DMV,
this is my fourth time living here and there are
so many cool companies and charities that you know are
military based or work with the military, and with your
company and FH for being you know, heritage and local

(27:15):
and you know people really know your name, but you're
hooked up with so many different charities. Is a testament
to the original owner and the legacy and you and
your people and giving back, but especially for this because
you know when it comes to holidays and toys, you know,
I'm sure like you, I have a lot of memories
of having toys and being fortunate to get toys for Christmas.

(27:35):
There's a lot of kids that don't get that. So
that's why this charity was invented, folks, is to give
back to the community of kids that might necessarily not
get toys during the holidays. So kudos to everybody at
FH for James and your team. Really generous. We really
appreciate all that you do. Let's stay in touch how
this campaign goes. But to thank you so much for

(27:55):
joining us on Community DC. We really appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
Yes, thank you. Thanks met a part.

Speaker 5 (28:02):

cleft into a smile for life. But at smile Train,
we understand that most children need a little extra care.
They need nourishment to ensure they grow healthy and strong.

(28:23):
They need a confident voice so they can express themselves clearly.
They need emotional support and counseling to help them navigate
the challenges of school and home life. And they need
orthodonic and dental care to make sure their smiles light
