When you want more Roadrunners, We'vegot more road runners. This is the
Tucson Roadrunners Insider Podcast, and we'renot fighting that. We're having a discussion
with the voice of the Roadrunners,Adrian Demi. What advice do you have
for me? Drink a lot ofwater. It's pretty odd and your new
best friend my best friend, JonathanSchaeffer. The guys are already talking,
(00:21):
so let's join them right here onYour two Son Roadrunners Insider Podcast. Welcome
to this week's edition of your twosun verd Runners Insider Podcast. It's Jonathan
Schaeffer. I'm Adrian Denny. Weare coming off a weekend sweep of the
Chicago Wolves at Tucson Arena. Wehad a blast. Roadrunners broke through,
got some big goals, some goodgoaltending, and some Thornton his pro debut,
(00:45):
jan Yunique, a heck of afight, a heck of a weekend.
We'll hear from both of those guyscoming up on the podcast. Jonathan
Shaeffer, I'm Adrian Denny. Johnny, it's twelve forty three a m.
On Sunday morning. You wanted todo this, you called it, you
scheduled it. I was wondering though, because you said yesterday podcast after the
(01:07):
game Saturday, didn't say a wordon it until after the game when when
you gave me the nod. Yeah, we're doing this. We got a
busy week. We're going on theroad. You're coming on the road.
Lots to cover. We have somegood sound bites to get to. We
have some fun to talk about withwith yan Yunique and the fight. You
know, you say is a we'renot journalists, right, We're definitely not
(01:30):
journalists, but that they say tojournalist, don't make yourself part of the
story. Jean gets in the fight. We'll hear it coming up. You
kind of got in the story. You kind of made yourself. You didn't,
you didn't quite, but you almostmade yourself part of the story when
jan got in the fight. Moreon us on how we're not journalists,
we're podcasters, all coming up onthis week's podcast. But Johnny almost you
(01:55):
know, uh, something that thatwould rarely happen in a podcast being part
of a time change at twelve fortyfive am on Sunday morning. If we
change times, we would be doingit on the podcast. We would be
falling back, we would be doingthe podcast at at one o'clock, right
one or two in the morning. We don't know, we don't care.
We're Arizona's we don't change times. It would be though, it would be
(02:16):
yeah, we would be falling backlive on the podcast, but we're not
going to do it here because we'reArizona. We're great. We don't change
times. But Johnny, we kindof do change times because everybody else changes
times, which means when we goto California anytime between now and March,
our seven pm games are going tostart at eight pm. But now,
(02:37):
the good news is when we goto Colorado in December, we get seven
pm games there instead of six pmgames, so they change times. We
don't daylight saving time tonight. Haveyou heard anything about it? I was
talking to my parents Thursday night thatthey mentioned daylight savings time, which they
know we don't get in Arizona. But it's well, we got the rest
(02:59):
of the the rest of the countryminus parts of Indiana and all of Arizona
deal on f that. But we'vegot a great podcast coming up for the
folks. We're excited about it,and we're gonna start at twelve forty six
and finish at one forty six andnot have to worry about falling back during
the podcast. Yeah, it's somethingI'm not used to, you know,
growing up in California, always useto those time changes, knowing that we're
you know, losing that hour ofsleep, and yeah, here it's kind
(03:23):
of nice. I mean again,we still do have to travel around,
so we don't get the full bulkof you know, staying in the same
time zone here, but is whatit is, and we like it.
I like it so far. Sowe got a busy week. You called
this podcast to do after the gameon Saturday because you're coming on the road
with us. You are joining usin Ontario. You'll be there with us
(03:46):
Wednesday and Friday eight pm games backhome in Arizona, Johnny, You'll be
with us on the road, andthen we'll go to to Kachilla Valley on
Sunday. So excited to have you. So you know you need an extra
day to get ready for the trip. So here we are on Sunday morning,
soldiering through for the folks. We'vegot our snacks. We've got a
great, great conference room here atRoadbunner's headquarters, and next to it is
(04:08):
the kitchen and we went in andgot snacks. Did you notice that there
was one snack that we both grabbedand then we went independently for other snacks.
So we both got the oreos, that's a given. Both got the
oreo pas. Don't you don't you'renot big cheese it's guy. Huh.
I grabbed some Cheetos. You grabcheetohs. You did, Yeah, it
was the last bag. I thoughtof Cheetos, but I didn't want to
(04:30):
get my hands dirty because they get, you know, the cheese on your
fingers. So sure with the othercheese item with cheese it I'm a huge
cheese a guy. Lots of lotsof very lots of lactose here we're consuming
at twelve forty seven on your Sundaymorning. I'm just very grateful that there's
snacks in here that we can Yeah, we can have because there's nowhere else
to really eat. We will Atthis time. We came back from the
(04:53):
TCC to our new office of fortyfour East Broadway, which really reminds me
of what a radio station looks like. That we've got. We've got the
open glass windows. Somebody walks bythe hallway, they can look in here
they can see us, and itfeels like a radio station. It feels
like late night at a radio station. And we come back and we come
(05:13):
inside, but we've got public parkinglots all around in street parking, and
people are pulling up going to hitdowntown Tucson. We're pulling up to do
the podcast. Oh yeah, welove it. This is this is what
it's all about. Late night podcast. After a sweep over in Chicago,
sweep of the Chicago Wolves, theRoadrunners now five and three. The typical
Roadrunners model for how to win agame. We scored first. We are
(05:35):
five and zero. When we scorefirst. We held the opposition without a
goal in the first period Saturday night, we're three and zero when we do
that. We won our first gameof the year. Not by a goal
because Josh Done got a big emptynetter. We didn't go to the third
period tied for the fourth time infive games and the fifth time in eight
(05:57):
games on the season, because JoshDone scored his first goal of the game
twenty three seconds after Chicago tied usat two, and we, uh what
other we we didn't trail. Weled from tapes to tape. You know,
not every game that we scored first. Have we led from tapes to
tape? But you know, wescored first. They pushed back, they
they tied us up. Kind oflike that that game in Texas Opening Night.
(06:20):
We scored first, they scored first. We scored first, they scored
first. We made it three totwo, and uh and and that was
it. The the Chicago game thatwe led from the Texas game we led
from tapes to tape. Is thatthe only game all year we've we've led
from tapes to tape. And wewent up to nothing and they made it
to one and we held on.Because against San Diego we took one nothing
lead, they made it one toone. We had to come back,
(06:43):
make it two to one. Wouldwe make it three to one? They
made it three to two. Thegame on Friday, we made it one
nothing, they tied it up,and then we took over two one three,
one three two won it there. But here again, same same thing.
We score, they score, wescore, they score, we score,
we pull away. But how aboutJosh done the big goals from from
(07:06):
Josh Man twenty three seconds after they'vegot a big power play goal comes back
after Patrick Koch walked it up icejust flipped the goalie Josh there for the
slam dunk wide open and then Joshinto that empty net. Roadrunners get the
win, five and three. Welove it, a five to three score.
(07:29):
Justin Kirkland four assists, multiple pointsfor Dylan Gunther with two assists for
the Roadrunners. Josh done, teamleading fourth and fifth goals. How about
Anson Thornton in between the pipes forTucson stops twenty seven to thirty in his
pro debut. Good job out ofeverybody, and jan Nyanique provided some great
entertainment for us. Yeah, andI think that was just the just the
(07:53):
kind of game where they refuse tolose. You know, they got they
got the first goal. Things werelooking good, or at least they got
the first goal in that second period. The first period, it really Chicago
looked like the better team from theget go, but you know, the
Roadrunners beat rebound like they always do. Their second period has always been the
best. Sodostrom gets the goal,Chicago scores that shorthanded, and you know,
(08:15):
the momentum shifts, but they justkept pounding it and then of course
we thought we were going into thethird period tied once again at two and
two, and you know, JoshJones gets the goal, and you know
it that that goal just gave theteam so much momentum. And then you
knew in that third period, likethis team is not going to lose this
game. And you know, whenChicago did score to make it four and
(08:37):
three, they still had plenty ofChicago saw had plenty of time to score
and it seemed like the Roadrunners clampedit down defense and of course Josh Jone
gets the empty netter, and yeah, this is a great win. And
you know, talked about on intermissionand even postgame as well. We were
kind of waiting for that kind ofperiod where the Roadrunners were going to score
three to four goals, and wefinally saw it in that second frame.
(08:58):
Yeah. In fact, that madeit two out of three periods where they
got multiple goals, and what isit now, three out of the last
four periods because we got the NathanSmith tip in to make it four to
Josh doone on the on the engRoadrunners put up eight goals this weekend,
so we said they were gonna come. We got our first multi goal period
(09:20):
of the year Friday night in thethird period. Saturday night, second period.
Two more goals. What three goals? Three goals season nine. Three
goals in the second time, thentwo more goals. So the goals are
coming, Josh Jones putting them in. We got some more first time goal
scorers. Nathan Smith scored Friday, scored again on Saturday, like Koya Chanis
(09:41):
scored Friday. First timers on Saturday. For the Roadrunners, you get Ryan
McGregor and then Victor Soderstrom, Soeverybody getting in on the mix. Some
first timers in the lineup last night, Patrick Kotch stepping in with Michael Kesselring
unable to go. Tonight Saturday night, it was Montana on Ya Bucci stepping
(10:01):
in after Stephen Camphor, Roadrunners captaingot hurt on Friday night, was able
to go. So he talked aboutthat depth. We're needing that depth,
and we like the team effort fromthe guys and team effort on the goaltending
Anson Thornton. We got our twentyyear old youngest guy on the team,
Dyan Gunther has a few months onhim. Step twenty seven to thirty looked
(10:24):
great, did not allow a fiveon five goal. Roadrunners outscored Chicago five
on five, seven to one onthe weekend, did not allow a five
on five goal on Saturday. Theyscored shorthanded, scored on the power play,
scored with the empty net. Youknow that those those special teams goals
were pivotal. Johnny and I thought, when we're up one nothing on the
(10:48):
power play, we're buzzing. Ithought, all right, we score here
to nothing, we're off, We'rewinning the game five one. They score
shorthanded, kind of like, oh, gosh, is this gonna be that
Saturday night where you win the nightbefore you get a lead, they pushed
back because you get complacent, andthen they got that power play goal late
and you're like, gosh, isthis gonna be one of those games?
(11:09):
And the guys came back twenty threeseconds later, and then the third period
extra attack or two minutes left theyget within a goal, You're like,
gosh, is this game gonna goto over get it? Like? But
but the road Runners were always thereis They've been all season for the next
one yeah, and this seems justfull of fight. I mean, even
in the losses this year, theyhaven't really been majorly blown out to where
(11:33):
it's you say, like, oh, yeah, the Roadrunners were just you
know, expected to lose this game. No, like even when they've lost
five to one, four to one. They had so many great chances.
You know, I don't want totalk about that Bakersfield series too much,
but they had they had great looks. They just the puck was just not
going in the nets. So thisteam fights, you know, every team
that comes in here in Tucson,I'm sure they expect a grudge match.
(11:56):
You know, that Yan Unique fightgetting the crowd into it in that first
period, Travis Barron getting a coupleof fights in games prior. This is
a really hard team to play andI you know, hopefully I'm not saying
hopefully, but teams should expect, you know, the Roadrunners to put up
a fight every single game. Yeah, and we got our fifth guy fighting
(12:18):
in the last six games tonight inuh John Unique, and it was it
was pretty entertaining. I said iton the call and you'll hear it coming
up here, like is this what? Tyson Nash, the Coyotes TV broadcaster
and doing color with Matt McConnell, would call prison rules because Chicago was pushing
(12:39):
the envelope. They were over theline and nothing was being called and they
continued to prod and poke and fight, and they kept going after Unique,
and they went after for probably fiveminutes and and finally On had had enough.
But let's pick it up right herethe end of the first period.
(13:00):
Yan Unique takes us through it here. Oh, now a Chicago skater takes
a slash at yan Yunique over there, and man Donovan and yoh not retaliating.
Gosh, Tyson Nashold he called theseprison rules. As Donovan takes another
slash Unique off the face off,no call, that's twenty minutes. And
(13:22):
now, uh, Chicago skater andDominique Franco throws a jab into Nathan Smith.
And now we've gotten yan Yunique's hadenough. He's going at it over
there with the Chicago skater and Donovanand boy is he ever plowing him.
(13:43):
Wow, Now he takes him down. It comes down and right on top
of him. Is it a takeoff his covet motion of the crowd,
motion of the bench And gosh,I mean they've been poking at it for
the last couple of minutest A bighigh five for Jonathan Shaffer down there was
(14:09):
Johnny trying to ragule him for theinterview. Oh, I think we made
our statement. Johnny, were youtrying to grab him for the interview?
Well, see, I just happenedto be down there because waiting to grab
I wanted to grab Montana on Yabuccibecause it was his first game back,
(14:31):
you know, just wanted to seehow he was feeling. You know,
the intermission interview was great. SoI just happened to be down there,
and the fight happens, and Isee yan Nini coming off, and I'm
just telling myself, get that highfive, because you know, it's fun
to be involved with these guys. You know, it's fun to kind of
boost their confidences of it, youknow, giving them fist bumps, giving
(14:52):
them the high fives. Don't evenknow if Yanni Ni knew it was me,
because you know, the guys knowwho I am. But you know,
I don't know if he knew,if it was even me, he
knew it was you. I thinkhe just saw a hand and he just
he hit it hard. You know. Of course he's a hockey player who
just got out of a fight,so I should have expected him to just
absolutely destroy my hand. It's youknow, it's a little still a little
(15:13):
red, but yeah, that wasdefinitely one of my best moments at a
hockey game ever, just getting thehigh five from Yon unique after that awesome
fight. Good for you for forjumping in there, putting the hand up
and getting the high five from Yon, Like, all right, Johnny,
you gave me a compliment yesterday. There's an unwritten rule and it's a written
(15:37):
rule, and uh, you know, no cheering in the press box.
And oh, as I told theChicago broadcasters Jason Shaver and Billy Gardner before
the game on Friday, we cheerthe in the press box, and we
cheer the press box. We highfive after our goals. Yeah, you
know, when I first came here, I didn't know what to expect.
I mean, I've I've heard youbroadcast, so I you know, when
(15:58):
you hear someone broadcasts, you kindof know like, okay, this is
this is a cheerer in the pressbox kind of guy. And sometimes it's
looked down upon. Sometimes it's youknow, it's good and I've seen I've
seen I've been in press boxes whereokay, this isn't the place where we
should cheer, you know, andworking in other college sports and in San
Jose, I would cheer sometimes justdepending on the severity of the goal,
(16:22):
like you know, if it's anO T goal or something. But yeah,
man, I mean it's it's funcheering. I mean we're we're too
song Roadrunners where you know, justas part of the team as all these
players are. And you know, why why didn't we celebrate? I mean
when team wins are you know, our confidence is boosted. We're happy,
they're happy. You know, it'sfun. And the other night I did
(16:45):
Josh Doncelly after he scored his goalbecause I don't know, I just saw
it and I just started doing it. Yeah, So it's it's really fun
sitting by you when these uh,when these goals happen for us. Yeah,
like like people people have said overthe years, like you need to
be unbiased, Like the hell Ineed to be unbiased. Do you know
(17:06):
who signs my paycheck? The ArizonaCoyotes. Yeah, we're we're doing a
Arizona Coyotes AHL broadcast. Like there'sno fair, there's there's no balance,
like we're fair, like we wewe say how it is, but we
get excited when the Roadrunners score, when the Roadrunners just win a fight,
and when the Roadrunners goalies make bigsays like I've I've always got a kick
(17:30):
Over the years, there's there's teamsthat don't travel, broadcasters on the road
and so on hl TV, they'regetting our feed and they're their fans will
be like you're biased, Like wellmaybe, because like, tell me what
this does. This paycheck says ArizonaCoyotes. I think I might say Arizona
(17:53):
Coyotes on it. And it wassigned by Alex Morella, the owner of
the Arizona Coyotes. That's my paycheck. That who's paying me to call the
games. You think I'm gonna getexcited when the Ontario Rains score a goal.
No, I'm gonna get pissed.Yeah, and again, like we
were road Runners, we wear Roadrunnersmerchandise. You know, we're with these
(18:15):
players night and day. We're withthe coaches night and gay night and day.
We want these guys to succeed. And when day succeeds, we're happy
because it helps us succeed too.You know, just how would I say
it? Just? Yeah, ithelps us succeed, and you know,
it's just fun to be part ofa winning team and it just makes us
(18:36):
happy. And yeah, I don'treally know how much to say it,
but yeah, I'm always gonna cheerin the press box. Yeah, we
cheer. We cheer in the pressbox. So stop by and cheering the
press box with us, if youever are so inclined. But five and
three on the year, Johnny,I like it. Another good start for
Yeah, for Tucson and headed outonto the road and feeling good about ourselves.
(18:57):
Like it always sucks when you youwrap up a long homestand you don't
win the last game, or youdon't win the last two games. You
gotta go on the road straight fromthere. You want to take some momentum
with you. So we're going toOntario Wednesday Friday. The Rain just lost
two games in a row in Colorado. As we said last week on the
podcast, there are teams like Coloradoand Coachella Valley who might be five hundred
(19:22):
or under five hundred right now thatin three weeks are not going to be
and they're probably gonna be like twelveand six. Colorado five to three over
Ontario on Saturday night and Friday nighton the Ranch, the Eagles picked up
another five three wins, So backto back five three wins for Colorado over
Ontario. The Rains sitting at fiveand four will be there Wednesday and Friday.
(19:45):
Johnny will be with us. Sundaywe will be in Coachella Valley to
take on the Firebirds. They beatBakersfield tonight by a score of two to
one. So Coachella Valley's now wonthree in a row after they drop dropped
one to Ontario. I think athome one nothing. So that's that's what
(20:07):
we got. Headed back on theroad in the Pacific Division. And Johnny,
this is pretty sick man like.We we opened the season in Texas,
come home for six straight. Nowwe go on the road for a
week. I love the narrative ofthis. This is our only road trip
between opening weekend and Thanksgiving. Havesix that to be at home for for
(20:30):
this long of a long of astretch, three straight weekends, back to
back to back home weekends for theRoadrunners. It was a blast. It
was It was really fun, youknow, coming out of it three and
three with the you know, endingit off with the sweep over Chicago,
which was very impressive. And youknow, the when you have a good
(20:51):
home stand like this, the guyswill be more together on the road.
You know, maybe it's you knowthey're probably like, oh, now we
have to leave our homes and youknow, leave our wives or girlfriends or
kids here. But you know, they have each other and the pets.
The pets are the big pets.Yeah the exactly not the big one,
but the pet pets are a bigcomponent too. So yeah, they they
had a good week against Chicago. You know, they also got the win
(21:12):
against the goals, so an overallgood home. Stand again liked what they
liked what we saw in Chicago oragainst Chicago when the scoring you know,
really picked it up. So yeah, these guys are gonna have a great
road trip. I'm super excited forit. My family lives near Ontario,
so good to see the family.I also have family Coachella as well,
so it's gonna be fun. Andit's also a really huge road trip because
(21:34):
Ontario has five wins, the Roadrunnersnow have five wins, and Coachella as
now has four if I'm not mistaken. So this is a big road trip
just for Standis wives. And alsothe Roadrunners haven't played too many Pacific Division
teams. I mean they've now they'renow four and oh against Central Division opponents
to Texas starts against the Central Yeah, so we haven't really had that Pacific
(21:57):
Pacific Division stretch yet. I mean, you only have one more Central Division
matchup left, you know, fardown the road. So now this is
really starting. It's going to startpicking up in games, will start getting
more scrappy. Ontario is a teamthat always likes to, you know,
put out the punch, so youknow, with the way Roadrunners play,
it's going to be a very fightfilled week we play in the Pacific Division
(22:21):
now until we go to Chicago Januaryfifth and sixth, So there we go.
Yeah, gonna have a stretch Ontario, Ontario, Coachella Valley. Coachella
Valley will be our next home opponentNovember seventeen, eighteenth. We'll go to
Calgary for two, Henderson for two, Ontario for one. Then we have
San Jose for a couple, andthen we go to Colorado for a couple,
and then we got Abbotsford and thenwe go San Jose, Bakersfield,
(22:45):
San Diego, and then we're homeCoachella Valley, San Diego, not sure
the order, and then we'll goto Chicago. How did you know all
about the top of your head thatwas impressive. I don't know. How
much further I could. Yeah,I could go Abbotsford the twelfth and thirteenth
weekend, then we're home Iowa thefifteenth, sixteenth, and then the eighteenth
(23:10):
and nineteenth of nineteenth and twentieth ofJanuary. I'm stumped there. So I
got you that. That's still prettygood. I mean I can check back,
check back with us. I canbarely get in two weeks. I
knew that we had Coachella at homeagain after this road trip, but after
that I would have been drawing ablank. So thank you, Oh,
(23:30):
thank you for the golf clap golf. I think Mike even pick that up.
I don't know. I'll do alittle louder one. Thank you for
a little more enthusiasm. We'll hearfrom Anthem Thornton after we get to yan
Yunique talking about that fight that wejust just heard. Yeah, you know
they lost yesterday. Service that hecame out a little more aggressive, If
(23:52):
I would say so, I thinkit was necessary. Somebody takes the edge
off and you know, keeps thekeeps the game rolling. Yeah, that
was awesome. You know, we'renot used to seeing guys who score a
lot like Yanna need to get intoa fight, and I think he said
he just kinda he needed to getinto one, and especially how much I
(24:14):
think it was Matt Donovan who hefought. He just kept slashing him.
I mean the play was even started, he just kept slashing the referees.
I'm not This is not me.This is not how I look at life
complaining about referees. The referees werejust letting everything go. Yeah, I
was. I was trying not tosay, like, oh, the refs
are doing a horrible job. Iwas just I called them no calls just
(24:36):
because and I thought they were goingon both sides. You know, I
think the rest were just letting themplay out that first period. So I
was just saying, oh, yeah, there were there were a lot of
no calls tonight. You know, something should have gone the Roadrunners way,
even maybe even when the Roadrunners wereon the power play, maybe that should
have been called either. I don'tknow. But they started calling more penalties
as the game went on. Butyeah, I think that just the frustrations
(24:57):
from the Roadrunners just not those calls. You know. I think you mentioned
guys can start getting hurt if callsaren't done, so you know that plays
a factor into into it. Andand I'm sure the road owners after losing
kessel Ring and camp For in thelast two games. Yeah, you know,
even even more thinking about it.Steve Potman got to the bench a
little early and was waiting for thereferees to come back out on the ice
(25:19):
before the second period started, andhe had some uh he had some questions,
some comments and probably some criticisms.Oh yeah, and so did the
fans. I heard a lot. They were great. Oh, they were
awesome. That was that was sucha fun crowd. They were so into
it. Again, it was itwas that unique fight at the end of
the first period that just really litup the crowd. And you know,
(25:40):
it was awesome. I I'm reallyimpressed by what the two Sun Roadrunners fan
base has brought so far in thefirst few weeks. And uh, that
was a fun one. We'll missyou guys for at least a week.
At least it's only a week,I mean, yeah, you know,
could could be a longer road. You know, you never know, you
can have tonight. We'll probably beright here doing our next lazy Sunday morning
podcast. Yeah, because you know, you can have a road you can
(26:00):
have a six game homestand and thenyou know, you never know, you
can have a six game road trip. But now we only have three games
on the road, and then we'reright back here, so it won't be
too long till we're back. Andyeah again probably doing this uh late night
podcast. I get it's up toyou, Johnny, like, we'll see
what, we'll see what the weekendslooking like. I probably would have I
would definitely would have said lazy Sundayafter dude, but lazy Sunday morning.
(26:23):
I'm happy, just happy to accommodateyou. You you accommodated me a couple
of weeks ago when I dropped iton you an hour before. Yeah,
no, that it is fun. It's fun being out here this late,
you know, just doing what wegotta do. But uh yeah, it's
mainly I mainly want to do tonightbecause you know, I fly out Monday.
You guys fly out Tuesday, wedTuesday, Tuesday. I just wanted
(26:48):
to get thirsday. You flying intoLa Are you flying in Ontario? Yes,
I just wanted to get their dayearly. I'm getting there super early
on Monday, which is also whyI, you know, didn't want to
do the podcast too late on Sunday. I think. I also I have
a question for you. Do ubersrun well on Monday mornings here in Tucson
or over over? What time? What time we talk? And you have
a six am flight? Is?I think so like five six am?
(27:10):
Do you know? Do you knowwhat, Johnny, I'll give you my
uh airport parking fob. You havean airport parking fob. I have an
airport parking fop no way to SunInternational Airport and you just I can just
park in there? Yeah? Really, yeah, dude, that'd be awesome
in the hourly lot for free. How'd you secure that they're they're a proud
(27:30):
partner of the two Sound Roadrunners.Oh yeah, okay, they love the
podd Shout out. Shout out toyou guys if you're listening. Yeah,
you're on our way out of heretonight. I'll put my two son parking
pass just so they know that I'mpart of the two Sun Roadrunners too.
Yeah. Maybe maybe it's time tochange the license plate. Now you gotta
change your license plate? Yeah now, now I'll do that tomorrow when I
(27:52):
when I have got to put theroad Runner's license plate frame up. Adrian,
thank you. I'm it's funny,is that. Yeah, I have
be honestly on the East side threethirty am on a Monday morning, I'd
be a little nervous about an uber. That's why because in San Jose ubers
were going constantly anytime. But thenalso my dad had a good points like
(28:12):
how are ubers looking here? OnSunday I had to get my car from
the TCC and looked up an uberand there were forty bucks with no you
said, like no ubers around, like very limited. So got me a
little nervous. So I was gonnaask you anyways, either it was on
this podcast or not, what uberslook like on a Monday morning. But
(28:33):
yeah, I'd love a fob. That'd be great. So then we have
to figure out how do we getyour car back when we get back in
the middle of the night after thegame Sunday. Shoot, that's that's gonna
be interesting. Oh do we flyin on Oh no, we bust it.
We bust in Sunday after the game. So we'll be arriving nine to
three, three, three four inthe morning. Uh, maybe it's a
(28:57):
future problem. Oh yeah, Wellwe'll talk about it, we'll think about
it, we'll figure it out.Yeah, we'll figure it out, because
you know, I get my cardriven to the parking ride on Cortero up
on the north side, where allof us who live on the north northeast
side get off the bus. Wemake a couple of stops coming back from
(29:18):
California from Henderson, We stop atthe McDonald's at Cortero at the parking ride,
and guys who live on that sideof town or more northeast get off
because it saves you an hour ofcoming all the way downtown and then having
to go north northeast. So Iget my car dropped off at the parking
ride and we'll see if maybe weget a couple of cars dropped off the
(29:42):
parking ride. Yeah. Well,we've just got to figure it out on
a very short time because you knowI fly on Monday. So how about
we just give you the airport FOBand worry about the rest later. Yeah,
we'll worry about the rest. Imean, I'll have my car keys
with me, so I don't knowif I should. Oh yeah, that's
also, you have a spare key. No, hey, yeah, I
had. I had a spa Ihad two keys, but then one of
(30:03):
them fell apart. Because they fallapart over time. So now my spare
key is my key, so Ido not have another key. So's we'll
think about it, figure it out. We'll figure it out. Let's get
to Yan Unique talking about the scrappygame. More from Yan Unique right here.
Yeah, I definitely agree. Ilike the word to use scrappy.
I think we are very good atdead and we can stick together as a
(30:25):
team, and you know helps thefans too, so fires up everyone up.
Yeah, honestly, I think Iexpected the Chicago Wolves to bring the
heat tonight because just the way thegame went on Friday night for them,
just it didn't go right, andyou know, they looked a little frustrated.
And then going into this first periodtonight, even again going back to
(30:48):
the no calls from the refs, you know, both sides were just getting
frustrated. I saw a couple ofChicago players just you know, yelling at
the rest saying, oh, wherewas that called? Where was that?
You know, where is this call? Where was that call? So not
as prize that they start kind ofpoking at our guys a little bit tonight
just to try to you know, light the fire under the flame or however,
you say that, but I thinka backfired because again, Yan Unique's
(31:10):
fight just cut everyone into the game, you know, adding fuel to the
fire. Adding Is that what youmeant? Yeah, I might have put
your dad saying, but adding fireunder the flame, I don't know it's
fair. It's it's one thirteen inthe morning, one thirteen in the morning.
We're making good time here on thepodcast. Let's hear from Yon Unique
talking about how sweep it is forthe road Runners or is the caption on
(31:33):
social media after the game said, meet meep and then sweep sweep. Yeah,
I mean, uh, you know, there's always some details you can
work on on perfect healthy games. So two wins are two wins no matter
what happens, and I think we'rejust glad we can take the points,
learn from our mistakes, and seeyou next weekend. Do it all right?
(31:55):
Thank you? Nice pun there,Thanks very nice time. Thank our
social media. Yeah, thank awesome, Thank Cole. And what a great
job by Cole tonight. Yeah,Cole did a great job. Check out
our Instagram story if you're listing inthe first twenty four hours of the game
on Saturday. But great stuff, great folks. It started with hockey and
hops over a dozen local Tucson breweriesand folks sampling it coming inside Military Appreciation
(32:21):
night. How sick for those hats? First one thousand fans got hats courtesy
of Fetics. And yeah, itwas a great, great thing, great
fun. Yeah, it was agreat night, you know, great send
off of the six game homestand thatagain was really fun. I mean,
these last few weeks have been awesome. You know that we had the field
(32:45):
trip day game, the opening nightstonight, you know, great promotional nights,
and the postgame jersey auction. DidMontana go? Did Montana go for
the most? Montana went for sixteenhundred? I think he has some diehard
fan out there because were you wereyou talking him up? You're like we
(33:06):
were together in San Jose. Yeah, I mean, I know Montana is
a popular guy, but I didn'texpect a his jersey to go for sixteen
hundred. So, I mean, good for that fan. If they wanted
Montana's jersey and they had sixteen hundreddollars to pay for it, that's awesome.
You know all the all the moneygoes to vet Tics. Yeah,
correct, So you know that's awesome. And I'm sure the guys loved it.
(33:28):
You know, people bidding for theirjerseys. I tried. I thought
Josh Done would go for the most. Yeah, no, they all they
all went for good amounts. Everybodywas very Josh Jone hit a thousand.
I know, Gunthro was about sixhundred. Yeah, Montana, of course
was sixteen hundred. And I thinkthat's all really the numbers. I was
paying attention to a lot of theauctions was going on during my postgame show,
so I didn't hear all of it. But how much did Valtzas go
(33:51):
for? Did you see that?Yeah? It was in the thick of
it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think seven hundred bucks. Okay,
pretty good. And they were allsigned in was where the game warns
right fund him Yeah. Game.I was at one point holding because some
of the guys, you know, after the game, the players go work
out, go stretch. Yeah,so some the line was with everybody was
(34:13):
out there at once, so fouror five guys ended up going to work
out first and then came back tothe end and smart and I ended up
holding four or five just soaking wet, soaking wet jerseys. Oh man,
yeah right, that's not that's notfun. I eventually set them on the
table. Yeah, they probably reekedtoo. Yeah, it was it was
(34:35):
no offense the hockey players, Yeahit was. It was wet it with
soggy. Yeah, it's like,oh god, and now those fans and
now those fans get them, thissuit's going to be trashed. But no,
everything was fine. Everything was great. It smelled They all smelled like
roses. Oh perfect, perfect. They all smelled like that that cologne that
that you wore. Where were wegoing and you got in the car.
(34:58):
We were going to Laken's house swarmingparty, our coordinator of community relations and
our mascot appearances. And you gotthe car and you smelled just phenomenal.
Yeah. It's the thing is,though it smelled great. I've never smelled
that cologne on you since Well,I don't have much left and it wears
(35:19):
off very quick, So I needto buy some more so that I can
wear more, because I don't wantto just like use it all for one
night. I guess you smell Yousmelled great, just like the jerseys I
was holding tonight. Well, I'llI'll buy some more so then you can
start, you know, smelling meon game time. That was great.
Give you I'll give you a littlewhiff of it before you go on their.
Yeah, it was. It wasvery fresh, very very friendly.
(35:43):
So yeah, Johnny, Johnny'll yougotta tweet the next time you get a
new bottle of this this stuff,or just tweet a picture of it so
we can sure. Well. Yeah, yeah, the colon we were talking
about on the podcast. Let's moveon to Anson Thornton then waiting for this
for a long long time. Wefirst saw him in the Coyotes lineup at
a preseason game September twenty twenty one, didn't allow a goal, got a
(36:07):
big win against the La Kings, and I'm thinking, Oh, this kid's
good. Who is this kid?Wait a minute, he's eighteen. Wait
a minute, he's on a professionaltryout. Wait a minute, he's a
top draft pick right, No,he was on a PTO. Ended up
(36:28):
getting an entry level contract, athree year deal from the Coyotes. Went
back to juniors for a couple ofyears. Third in the Ohl and wins
last year with twenty nine, scoreda goalie goal last April and twenty years
old, youngest player on the team. Pro debut tonight, stop twenty seven
of thirty. He was so excitedto finally get in to the game,
let's hear from Anson Thornton. Yeah, very exciting for sure. You know,
(36:52):
it's something I've been looking forward tofor a long time, and just
to finally get that first one undermy belt and win the game feels amazing.
Yeah, obviously, you know,I'm sure you had butterflies. His
first pro game looked a little uncomfortableat first, you know, just to
kind of says he was making. But over time, you just you can
just tell he really settled into thegame, started clicking those rebounds better,
(37:14):
had a couple of shots hit hishead and his helmet came off, had
a couple of equipment issues actually asummit fill off twise, and I think
he lost his blocker at some play. It's like I saw him and in
Chicago was on a good, goodattack like they had. They had some
good putt possession, and then allof a sudden, I'm seeing Anson Thorn
sliding around with no blocker. I'mlike, what is blocker going? Then
they had a whistle at dead sosuch Chicago got a little mad about that
(37:37):
too. It's like, hey,we had a good rush by what happened
to his pads. So, yeah, great job by Anson thorn tonight.
Got to talk to him after thegame, and you know, just congrats
on the win, man. Yeah, big win for Anthony. You could
tell Chicago came out first period. They were ticked off about last night.
They wanted to see if they getsomething on a on a first first game
goalie, and and Anton made twelvebig says in that first period, kept
(37:59):
it scoreless, and a lot oftwo son to get that first lead of
the night forty seven seconds into thesecond period. It was Victor Soderstrom tying.
Dylan Gunther's fastest goal to start aperiod is Dylan scored forty seven seconds
into the third period to make itto one against San Diego on that school
day game. So big win forthe Roadrunners Andson Thoptet was in goal.
(38:21):
He was the number one Star ofthe game. Johnny. You got to
talk to him after the game atthe number one star interview. Yeah,
it was great. I'm sure hewas a little nervous and just again,
you get your first pro win,I'm sure everything's just a great feeling for
you. So he still gave meexcellent answers and you know, I got
(38:43):
some great pictures of it too.I'll post those on my Twitter handle as
well, or x handle now iswhat they like to call it. Yeah,
great kid, you know again, just excited for him and I think
now that again. Matthew will alsostarting seven games in a row was great.
You know, he got to seewhat the league goaltender he can be.
But you know, every team's successcomes with a one A, one
(39:06):
B type of situation, or justa starter with a you know, good
backup, and Anton Thorn tonight showedthat, Hey, you know, we
don't have to keep relying on MatthewVilwalta too much. You know, we
can afford to give him a nightoff like tonight. So not only Anton
Thorn getting his first career win,he definitely earned some more starts potentially down
(39:27):
the road. Yeah. Definitely aguy we can go with any night and
be totally comfortable with. He's he'scomposed, he's smooth, he's he's skilled,
he's big, he's he's gonna bea really really good pro goalie.
He was a really really good progoalie in his first win of the season
in his pro debut for the Roadbunners. Let's hear from Anton Moore on that
(39:51):
Tucson Roadbunners five three win over Chicago. Yeah, for sure, you know,
get in the two points tonight andyesterday. It's amazing for us and
we're just going to continue to buildoff this moving forward. Yeah. Again,
great win for the for Anson Thorne. I mean we also talked about
Chicago's a kind of good team toI guess play your first start, because
Chicago has been struggling the last fewweeks. And what a scrappy game to
(40:15):
have your first start in too.I mean jan your Nique getting that.
We talk about jan nik fight alot, but you know that fight at
the end of the first period. You haven't allowed a goal yet in the
game. I mean, it's goottaamp you up. But just at least
a little bit as a netminder. What's it like as a netminder being there
and you know, right in themiddle of all that scrappiness. Let's hear
(40:37):
from Anson on the game a littlebit. I just try to control what
I can control, you know, don't let things get to me and just
play the same game that I alwaysplay. Yeah, and I'm sure Anson,
as a rookie in his first gamewould wouldn't necessarily get into a fight.
But yeah, I liked what hesaid. You know, whatever his
teammates, you know, fighting againstChicago physically and you know mentally in the
(41:00):
game. But as a goaltender, all you can do, all you can
do is what you can control. And again anson Thorn did his job.
I mean that goal at the endfrom Chicago was a hard shot to face.
You know, the goals he allowedtonight were really hard. Didn't allow
a five on five goal exactly, did not allow a five on five goal.
Road winners out scored Chicago seven toone five on five this weekend,
(41:22):
which is a great sign. Ilove the five on five play. Scott
was started shorthanded, they scored onthe power play, they scored six on
five with the extra tackle, didn'tallow a five on five goal. Yeah,
and the first goal he allowed wasa breakaway which was a tremendous shot,
second one on the power play nearthe end of that period, and
then they got the third one onthat six on five empty net rush.
(41:45):
So you know, if you uh, if you kept it all five on
five, Anson Thorn doesn't allow agoal at all, so uh yeah,
just a great game for him.Tonight, shout out to him and just
congrats man, and you know, let's keep it going. Yeah. So
that's that's situation and goal. Andagain Matt Malalta leading the league in minutes,
(42:05):
second in the league in safe.So the Roadrunners don't allow a lot
of shots like Matt Walalta doesn't see, you know, thirty five forty forty
five shots a night like he didwhen he was in Ontario. And and
we knew we were gonna take careof Anton, and Chicago brought it.
They came out hard. They wantedyou could tell they wanted to try and
take advantage of Anson in there, the youngest Roadrunner by by what is it
(42:28):
two months plus to Dylan Gunther. So on this Roadrunners team, you've got
nine guys now twenty two and under, and you've got four guys who have
been with the Roadrunners for four seasons. So you got Dylan, you got
Anson, they're twenty. Uh where'smy uh oh, there's my backpack?
(42:49):
Say something, Johnny, I'm gonnagrab my notes here. Uh yeah.
So eight guys, would you sayeight? Or nine? Nine guys?
Nine guys with Anson, nine guyswith Anson out? You had you had
me freaking out. I was like, oh my gosh, I thought it
was eight because I put eight onour eight skaters and eight skaters and they
are nine guys who have dressed.Oh there you go. Yeah. And
you know, having this young ofa team in the AHL, yeah,
(43:12):
sure, every team's going to haveyoung guys, but you know, I
like the combination of our team betweenthe young guys and the veterans, and
even the guys who seem like veterans, like guys like Ben McCartney and you
know, jan Yunique or even MatthewVolalta, they're not even twenty five yet.
So it's funny how in the AHLworks, you know guys who have
(43:34):
played four years and they're only twentytwo, and you know, they're already
seemed like leaders, and you know, hopefully one day when they're in the
NHL, this this kind of experiencereally helps them. Twenty two year olds
on this team, Unique in hisfourth year, Soda Shrman his fourth year,
McCartney in his third full season, fourth year with the Roadrunners, Koya
(43:54):
Chanik in his third full year,Aku Ratu first year in North America's Pro.
The twenty one year olds, JoshDone, Maxie Zuber and the twenty
year olds. All right, sorrymiss vastly Panamarav he's he's twenty one,
so Panamara doan Zuber, they're twentyone, and then your twenty year old
(44:15):
Dan Gunther and Anton Thornton. Soit is a young team, but you
look at it, you don't thinkthat because you got guys like Unique McCartney,
soderstru I've been here four years,Koya Chanik's been here three years.
Yeah, and then you got guyslike Stephen Campfer who is a full NHL
VET, Zach Sandford who is stillwith the Kyri's at this moment, but
(44:37):
you know, maybe he is expectedto come back eventually. You know,
you got those guys who have beenin the leagues for years and also Stanley
Cup champions. Who else is itgood? Justin Kirkland I think he's twenty
seven, you know, Vet guy, he's been around for a while.
Had the four assists tonight as well. So yeah, it's a good combination
between you know, these young rookiesand then in the middle you have the
(45:00):
middle ground between you know, theguys having the four years of experience but
they're still in their early twenties. And then you have the full Vets who
have been in the league for fourplus years. Yeah, and how about
Vasily Panamarav what uh, just ajust another great great find by roadunners GM
(45:20):
John Ferguson getting him alone here fromCarolina who doesn't have an HL affiliate.
The ironic thing is he was withChicago last year, second on their team
in goals with twenty four second pointswhen a Calder Cup with him in twenty
one twenty two, and Chicago wasindependent this year, and so we joked
about the last time we had aforward assigned by another NHL organization was Mike
(45:42):
Carconi. And you know, everycircumstance is different, but great to get
some firepower like Vasily Panamarav here.He wasn't the lineup on Saturdays. He
kind of just eases his way backin from an injury on that back to
back. So so the Big Rig, the Uncle Cam hebig was there for
two son and again you talk aboutthe depth. But yeah, young team
here and just uh, just alot of fun. And man, are
(46:05):
our young guys just just smoking itright now. Josh done three goals on
the weekend, the team leading third, fourth, fifth. I think the
folks can hear the sirens. Blueberriesand Cherries, driving Blueberries and Cherries and
Dawntown, Tucson. Nathan Smith fivegames scoring streak. Nate's just been amazing,
(46:27):
scoring goal in both games over theweekend. Are they coming in here?
Are they? What did you do? Are they going into the garage
or are they parked out front? What's going on? It's it's getting like
right outside here. I don't know. Something's happening. Berries and cherries.
No, oh, it's it's gonenow. They went past drove by,
(46:50):
saw the lights on and thought, nah, there's nobody in there. No,
it's just too handsome. Dudes doinga podcast. Two guys in white
dress shirts. Yeah, white dressshirt day. Usually we come back for
the podcast and I change. I'mnot I'm changing. I took the tie
off. We both took our tie. That's I had to come off.
Maybe the belt will come off too, just because this thing is tight on
me. It was a great, great meal. We had try Tip for
(47:12):
Try Tip with mac and cheese fordinner. I spilled I spilled some mac
and cheese on my jacket. Ohno, yeah, I don't know how
because I put my I hang myjacket over my chair and then I threw
my plate away, and then Iwent and grabbed my jacket. But maybe
I'm assuming that I spilled some macand cheese on the table. So when
I grabbed my jacket and I kindof swof sed it over, it might
have dragged. I got most ofit off. I don't know how noticeable
(47:36):
it will be when I, youknow, look at my jacket tomorrow.
But yeah, I was a littlebumped. I actually I was walking by
and I saw our goaltending coach McTavish, and you know, just said high
to him, and then I brushedmy arm through my jacket and I just
feel something. I'm like, ohman, what is that? And it's
it's the mac and cheese that sucks. At least it didn't get in your
(47:57):
hair like you can wash you getit dry cleaned out of the out of
the suit there. Yeah, imagineI walk up to depressed booth and I
just have a bunch of mac andcheese in my hair, your hair,
and our p meal that nobody elseis allowed to go in. But uh,
but so we always always we hadmac and cheese. Saturday Friday,
we had full chickens. Each personcold chicken. That was crazy. The
(48:20):
food has just been phenomenalee caterings greatfolks, past your next event at the
Yeah party, a road owners game, TCC. The catering is the best.
Yeah, this is not a Thisis not a paid advertisement, like
we pay them, Well, yeahwe do, and their food is actually
just phenomenal. How about the cheesecakebites on Friday? I didn't have any
of those. I got there toolate. How about you stealing my cookie
(48:43):
today? Well, I bro,I told you go get a cookie for
the table, and you brought backtwo cookies and I started one. You
did bring me a new one.I thought it give you. I thought
it was And who walked by andsaw three cookies on your plate and started
laughing at you. Oh Maddy Schwagman, our assistant equipment manager, and he
says, that's okay, Johnny.I just came back for my second cookie
(49:05):
too. Yeah. Yeah, ohman. Yeah, those those cookies were
great too. Yeah. The foodfood's awesome. I mean, it's a
great meal to have before at thenight, the VIP meal that nobody listening
to the podcast can go to.Yeah, sorry, we don't mean the
brag about unlets's unless again you geta TCC catering for your next social event.
Other than that, yeah, youguys are not a lot of happening.
(49:27):
So we do apologize for that ifwe're bragging too much of how great
our pregame meals are. Here here'sa story for you, going down memory
lane as we used to as weused to say, and then and then
we can segue because because our officehere, it it looks like a radio
station like I've it looks like, you know, you got six stations,
(49:49):
production studios, just just the waythe whole thing's set up with all the
open windows. So I'll get tolate night at the radio station stories after
I talked talk about what we usedto do on a radio show I was
on in Salt Lake. It wascalled Man Made Mornings, and we were
on the Home of the Utah Jazz. We would have guests on from all
(50:13):
over the country. When say we'replaying the Phoenix Suns, we'd have Kevin
Ray on from from Arizona Sports andthe TV broadcast over the Suns. We're
playing Philadelphia, we'd have one oftheir beat writers on and the hosts.
I couldnot take credit for this.I was the update guy, but the
hosts would always at the interview, you know, like when you have have
(50:35):
a guest on and your a highend radio show and you're like, all
right, thanks for joining us.We'll give you one hundred dollars to Fleming
Steakhouse. Thank you for coming on. You know, we know what man
made mornings would say. They wouldsay, Hey, Johnny, thanks for
coming on the show tonight. We'llsee at the at the game tonight.
We'll buy your dinner at five o'clock, meet us out front. And we
were talking about the the VIP pressmeal that we were buy your dinner tonight,
(51:00):
meet us at meet us at thearena, come on in, Yeah,
to a meal that they were invitedto. Anyway. Yeah, I
mean, I guess, I guessit's just a way of trying to still
it make you look good. Itwas we were trying to make ourselves look
good and nobody bought it. Nobodybought it. But yeah, late night
at the radio station. I've hadsome some late nights at the radio stations
(51:22):
producing baseball games and various evening programming, cutting up, cutting up audio and
producing. And you know what Iwould do. I would I'm producing and
say producing a baseball game, likethere's nobody else in the building, and
it's I'd put my headphones in,I'd listen to the game, make sure
(51:43):
I didn't miss a pitching change ora third out, and and I'd walk
around the building and walk into theCountry studio and just sit down and just
chill. And you're the only onein the building and nobody knows you're there.
But that would be me late nightat the station, just wandering around
into random ree radio stations that youknow, were voice tracked, were automated
at that time of night, andjust kind of making myself at home.
(52:05):
Could have could have could have puton some requests. It's a it's a
weird feeling. I've been at thisoffice by myself late night and it's we
it's a weird feeling knowing like I'mthe only person here right now. It's
I don't know, it's it's justweird. So back to our young guys.
You're talking about Josh Tone way offtrack, but it's okay. Dylan
(52:27):
got there another multiple point games,so so Dylan's up to seven points in
in in eight games. So theroadrunner is Nathan Smith. The five games
scoring streak unique continues to to pileit in fifth Roadrunner. In the last
six games to get the fight, five different guys have fought. No,
I didn't even have to check thestats. No other team in the AHL
has had five guys fight already. It's impossible. And didn't on didn't on
(52:52):
Montana sorry, still tired. Didn'tMontana on Nibucci get into a scrap tonight
too? Yeah, yeah he was. He was not that roughing though.
Was it roughing or was it?I don't think it was a fight.
You always he always feel screwed whenyou think you had a fight and they
say, no, it's just justa roughing. That's just a coincidental.
Montana got got a roughing and aten minute misconduct with a two minutes left.
(53:15):
Yeah he had I see, Ididn't get the high fight for him.
I would have been down there, but I had to do something first,
so definitely would have given him thehigh five too. And you know,
it's fun being down there when nearthe end of the period when it
fight happens. I guess that mightbe a new thing. Just gotta give
the guys a high five. Yeahyou should. I like it. I
like it. I like you becomingpart of the story Johnny and then gives
us something to talk about on thepodcast. Yeah, no, it was
(53:37):
fun again. That was a thatwas definitely one of my best talking moments
ever, just giving Unique the hardhigh five after his fight. Here here's
I'm sure you don't have it againfor the second straight week after we did
it one week, right, DoesAdrian know? Here's here's a Does Jonathan
know I'll keep you Okay? Yeah, okay, I definitely didn't have one.
So let's do it. There isone road runner who is averaging more
(54:04):
than a point a game. Whois it? Kirkland? Yeah, justin
Kirkland because he had four assists tonight, fiss tonight, six assists in five
games. All right, here's nogoals due no goals out in five games?
All right, here's another one.We have one player averaging a point
a game. No chance you getthis. We have a one player averaging
(54:27):
a pointed game yet one game.No chance you get this, no chance,
no chance averaging a points? Notisn't gunther Dylan has seven points in
eight games. Seven points eight games. Okay, give me one more chance.
You'll never get jan has five pointsin six games. Dang it?
(54:50):
Who am I? Who am I? Not? Three strikes? You're out
one more? Guess mmm? AndI feel like I should know? This
is it? Nathan Smith Nate hasfive points and seven gets. Dang it?
Okay, who is it? PatrickKotch? Oh? You got me?
There? He assisted on the emptyletter. You got me there?
(55:13):
He assisted on Josh Jones go aheadgoal. Patrick is awesome. Yeah,
you know I should have known becausewhen you say like point per game,
you think of a guy who's playedin almost every game now, and Patrick
Kotch just has played two games. He had a great weekend, you know,
for great first two games of hisAHL career. So yeah, good
(55:34):
job tricking me there, I gotyou? Yeah? What if I did
getch? Patrick Cotch? Though youhave been just done? The name of
that segment should be what doesn't Johnnyknow? What doesn't? Yeah? I
mean because when I challenge you,you know so much and I'm you know,
I only know road. I don'tknow mainly stuff from this season,
so you know, yeah, Idon't know. It could be fun.
Maybe we can poke at each other, maybe do it? What a what
(55:57):
do we both know? And whatdo we both not know? That's that's
a little too deep for me.Johnny at one seven on UH it is
morning it is It's holy smokes, all right, bro, Uh let's take
a look at our outline here.I think we covered it. I think
we covered it. Oh, bythe way, thanks to everybody in October
(56:19):
who downloaded our podcast for the secondmost downloads that we've ever had on the
Insider podcast in October. So Ithink everybody likes Johnny in his first month
on the podcast, second most downloadsever. Yeah, I'm I'm hoping to
uh hoping for that. And Idon't I need to get your name.
But whoever keeps telling me a greatjob after my on ice interviews, thank
you very much. You know itgives me a boost of confidence because it's
(56:42):
my first time ever really doing thatin my life in sports. So whoever
you are, thank you if you'relistening. And uh, yeah, I
hope I'm not annoying everyone too much. Yeah, no, I think I
think everybody likes you. Yeah,I think everybody likes Johnny. Second most
downloads ever in the UH Insider podcast. So happy Hour almost gottes last week?
Oh happy Hour, Happy Well it'sMatthew volt podcast. Is we need
(57:07):
to get Matthew on this. Hesays, he says he's down anytime.
I know, we usually don't getplayers, usually don't get players during season,
but I think Matthew's Volots is aguy we just gotta grab because he
seems down for it. He lovedthe happy he loved being on Happier hour,
did he he did? Yeah.I told him it's funny. I
talked to him, like, youknow, he had you like it?
(57:29):
He said, oh, it's great. And I told him like, yeah,
you sounded off, and he's like, yeah, I know. And
then that's when I added, didyou like did you like the beanie he
was wearing tonight? It's the backuphe's warning we'll see he's worn it after
games. And I saw him inand I'm like, I love that beanie.
I think it's like it's an iconiclook for him, the Red Roads
beanie. I mean, it's it'scold in there. I don't blame the
(57:52):
moment. I would wear a beanieif I could. It could be cold
in there, and you know, for him, I mean, of course,
he has all of his padding on. I'm sure it helps, you
know, keeping warm, But he'snot in the game. You know he's
sitting on the sitting on the Iwouldn't say sidelines, but you know he's
right outside the rink on that chairor outside the ice, so maybe he
could get cold. I don't know, but I did the Vanie's an iconic
(58:13):
look. And again I told him, we need to get you on this
insider and he says, he said, let him know whenever we got to
talk to me about the pads andthe Golden Man I need. Yeah,
that's all we want to talk that'sall we want to talk about. And
yeah, he's just a great guyto talk to, such a such a
nice dude. Johnny. Did youthink when we started this podcast we'd make
our hour? I thought we did. We say one, it's one thirty
(58:36):
nine, so we're going to hitthe hour. We're hitting the hour.
Well that was quick. We're goingto hit the hour. I don't know
what time we started this, butwith it was twelve forty forty three.
I think with all of our withall of our sound, as they say
in the business, with the uniquefight, the unique cuts from post game
and Anson Thornton post game, weare going to we're gonna hit our hour.
(59:00):
So we're gonna do it. You'reyawning. You just yawned. I've
not. Yeah, I wasn't atfirst, but the last few minutes,
the yawns are coming. You knowwhat I've noticed about you, Johnny,
is uh, the later it gets, the lighter your hair gets. If
you notice that, the later itgets, the lighter your hair gets.
Yeah, it does, it getslighter. Yeah. Do you go to
the hair when you're tired, likeI go to the hair when I'm tired,
(59:21):
like when I'm driving late at night, like brushing your hair, just
just hands to the hair. Ohyeah, Oh for sure, that'll be
probably driving to going to the hairon the way home. You've already gone
to the hair. I've gone tothe hair a couple of times. Yeah,
you've already got the hair. Yeah, I don't know my aneurysms are
when I'm tired. I mean,obviously yawning that's a go too, I
guess, yeah, hands through thehair. I get real quiet when i'm
(59:44):
tired, but obviously we're on thispodcast, so I can't be quiet.
But if i'm ever like super justred, Oh, my eyes get red,
My eyes get really red. Youreyes do get right? They read
right now? I don't think they'restarting to get read. Yeah. Yeah,
the first I know, the firsttime we did this late night podcast,
they were just bloodshot red. Andwhen I went to when I went
to the Rookie Showcase last what wasit October September, September. I'm way
(01:00:09):

I moved here. One night,we weren't running on much sleep and we
stayed out, you know, doingall the Vegas stuff, and my eyes
were bloodshot red, like it lookedreally bad. So yeah, I mean,
I don't know, it's a it'sone of those nights. But we're
happy we got the weekend sweep againstChicago, and let's bring it on to
