(00:24):
myself Adrian's any are taping on yourLabor day and just after two o'clock.
Kim, thank you for thanks forworking on Labor day and helping us motor
through the podcast. You got Reesefor tally coming up on the podcast and
excited to talk to Reese. It'sbeen been eight nine months. Yeah,
we had a great conversation with Reeseearlier this year. You had just joined

(00:46):
us and I have a I didn'teven get a chance to share with him.
I have a favorite memory of meetingref. So I was in France
the first time I talked to him, so it didn't really get a chance.
I think, I don't. Idon't even think. I had my
camera on when we were talking. And then we did the Jersey auction not
too soon after that, and Idid not know who he was because I

(01:07):
hadn't really seen him before, andI loved his name. As he was
coming out, I saw him andI was like, you know, with
every other guy, I'm like heyCameron, Hey Boco. With him,
I was like hey buddy, andI'd wait untily passed with this Jersey to
see what his name was. AndI was like, oh my god,
I don't know how I could haveforgotten that it was him. So yeah,

(01:27):
But just a great conversation with Reese. He's always so forthcoming and he's
having a wonderful summer and excited tobe joined right now, find a fifty
one Reese to Telly Reese. How'sit going? Good? Good? How
are you guys? We're good?Where are you and where are you up
to today? I spent my summer'sblack in Winnipeg, up in Canada,

(01:51):
and today I was just at thegym and hide they off from the ice.
But it's about it so far.Awesome, good summer, lots of
a lot to work, lots ofhockey, uh, hanging out. Yeah,
it's been. Uh, it's beena pretty productive summer so far.
A lot of ice times, alot of work coats, and a lot
of hanging out with friends. Alot of golf, but it's been,

(02:12):
uh, it's been a really goodsummer so far for sure. Well,
congratulations on a on a great firstyear pro and and getting that second contract.
Kim. I've always thought getting thatsecond contracts the harder than the first
because you've you've got a year inand but there's there's more guys coming up
getting getting new contracts. The est. Congratulations on h on getting that that

(02:35):
second second deal with the Roadrunners.Thank you, Thank you, super excited.
What uh what'd you take from youryour first year and and coming back
for year number two? Some ofthe feedback that you got from John Ferguson
and Steve Popman getting ready to rollback in for U for the second season.
Yeah, it was, uh,it was. It was a really

(02:58):
cool experience playing my first year obviously, so it's a big jomp coming from
junior. Uh, splitting half theyear in the in the Coast and then
in the American League as well, was was different. And just playing on
two different teams in two different inthe same year. It was something I've
never done before. But uh,well yeah, both both experiences were great
and and uh but coming into thisyear, just coming in raids would go,

(03:21):
and and being being a guy thatcan play in the lineup all the
time, and uh, just beingfaster and stronger because I'm not the biggest
guy, so I definitely gotta bestronger and in that way. And and
yeah, the goals stay up allyear and and be have a productive year
and just helped help the team winand and ultimately went a championship. So
so that's those are some of thegoals I want to have this year.

(03:44):
So, Reese, last time wetalked to you in January of this year,
you know, we learned a lotabout you in that conversation. We
learned that you know Ben McCartney, that you guys have a little bit of
a history together. We found outthat you had been with billet families previously,
and so you were learning how tocook. So I'm curious now,

(04:05):
you know, we're what what monthis it, We're nine months later,
eight months later? How's your cookinggame? Have you been working on it?
Uh, yeah, it's been it'skind of improved. But I gotta
say, when I'm at home,my mom kind of in bag because she
doesn't seen me all year, soshe does a lot of the cooking same
with my dad. So but duringduring the breakfast and the launch days,

(04:29):
I'm I'm alsotly on my on myown. So uh, it's a lot
of eggs and a lot of thatkind of stuff, and kind of kind
of easier during the summer for sure, because they hold me out out,
hold me out a lot so cropsin them. And I see you wearing
long sleeves right now and know you'rein Winnipeg. Are you mentally and physically
prepared to be back in the heat? Yeah? Well I was back in

(04:53):
for development camping in July there andyeah it was it's really hot. I
forget how hot it is again, but yeah, I'm ready to get back
down there and and get it going. It's cools off a little bit there
and in the wintertime, so it'sit's nice for sure. Second development camp.

(05:13):
You know, you talk about beingbeing a rookie, and I don't
think we had a lot of rookiesreally on our team, Like Colin Tyson
had come out of ASU the yearbefore, and I think we were a
pretty young team, but everybody elsehad had some pro experience before you know,
the season started. Yeah, itwas. It was actually my third

(05:33):
development camp so I was I wasone of the older guys there was me
and Michael Miller and Lombardi from lastyear. We're all there and and Donor
and stuff. So you're one ofthe older guys there and just trying to
trying to show young guys how howyou gotta perform when you play pro.
It's come to rink every day andbasically when you're at home as well,

(05:54):
you have to sleep rob you gottaeat right and it's a job now,
so you gotta gotta take care ofyour body, and it's an all day
thing and our coaches, uh reallyhave a big, big part of that.
So it's kind of a kind ofan extension of beginning a Roadrunners training
camp up there. Yeah, forsure, Possy Slans stories are all they're
they're kind of running the show alittle bit on the ice and everything,

(06:15):
and uh it's good to see themagain for sure and have a good chat
with them and and uh, justthe pace of the pace of the practice
that they run there. It wasgreat and it was a lot of fun.
What what'd you enjoy most about beingwith the Steve Popman and Zach Startini,
your forward coach and head coach lastyear in Tucson, being with them
for for most of the most ofthe season starting you know, as we

(06:38):
send the development camps, the trainingcamps, you went back back to Atlanta.
But but but with us in Tucson. What what'd you take from our
from our coaching staff that that helpedyou build? Yeah, they're just super
supportive. They it comes to therank with a pause, pause vittitude every
single day and and it's fun tocome to their rank. So when it's

(06:58):
fun to come to their innk,it's not. You're always having fun and
you just want to get better everyday and they help you that before practice,
after practice, they give you tipsthat they tell you what you gotta
work on and everything almost daily. So they're really supportive towards me and what
I had to do to stay inthe lineup and to contribute to the team.
So I'm really grateful for them andexcited to get to work them again
this year. Adrian, Actually,I don't know if you ever experienced this

(07:24):
where you you know, you movedout of the family home, but then
you had to move back at somepoint, and Reese, I was wondering,
like, is it a little bitof a difficult transition or what is
that like for you? I don'twant to I don't want you to disparage
your family at all, but Iknow it's in the news a lot about
you know, millennials having to orbe back in the home and gen Zers

(07:46):
have to be back in the homewith the family. So what's that like
for you? Yeah, it's,uh, there's some positives or some negatives.
I have two younger brothers, soeighteen and twelve, so it's uh,
they're both all boys here, soit's uh, guess kind of chaotic
sometimes. And the house, it'sdefinitely trusted coming from you're living alone for

(08:07):
eight months, so you have thatfind to yourself and everything. And but
it's also great coming back and seeingmy family every day. Obviously you don't
get to see it much during theyear because just with the all the work
and travel, you don't just don'tknow where you're gonna be. So so
it's it's pros and cons definitely throughoutthe summer. But I would I would
not not want to live here. It's uh, they helped me a lot,

(08:28):
so it's it's it's good. Here'sone Kim for you. Moving back.
Moving back home. So, youknow, after at my first first
pro season, had my own apartment. Second pro season, calling games,
I was, I was at theteam apartments with our assistant equipment manager.

(08:50):
And then when the season ended,I was I was kind of looking for
a place to buy, right,so moved out of the team apartments.
Was looking for looking for a place. So I was home for for one
summer after being moved out for twothree years. And here's the one thing
that I remember about that dessert everysingle night after dinner, and I could

(09:16):
not handle it and had I hadto get a workout plan back and going
in a hurry kind of you know, early twenties, you can kind of
get away with pretty much everything unlessyou're a world class athlete. But moving
back in and having dessert every nightis is what got me Kim for going

(09:37):
back home for for that summer.I know exactly what you're talking about,
the level of decadence in the mealsthat you get from your parents. I
reas I don't know if you've experiencedthis, but I definitely did early earlier
in my career when I actually movedto Florida and San Diego and then Washington
State and then Japan and came backto Tucson and didn't have anywhere to live,

(09:58):
so I to move in with mymom and I just, oh my
god, the food was I mean, I do girl dinners a lot,
which you know, I'm eating popcornfor dinner and then moving back in with
her where she's actually making a fullmeal. So yeah, lots of gym
time. At that time, itcomes, it hits you hard. You're

(10:20):
like, all right, am Ijust gonna let it all go? Here?
Is this what happens? And I'mlike, no, I can't do
that. Not ready, not notto that point yet. I am still
very very eligible and gotta stay onthe a game. Oh yeah, Reese's
is your family? Are they ahockey family? Like? Was this was

(10:41):
this in your destiny? Or what? He does that look like? Yeah,
my dad, I say, mydad was more more. He played
when he was younger. He kindof thought when about he turned into his
eighteen year after high school, wekind of stopped. But he's always had
a passion for the game. Healways watches the game, and so so

(11:01):
when I was first born, Iguess it's he put me on skate straight
away and then it just fallows suitmy younger brothers played, uh, the
middle of one right now he's he'sjust playing for fun. And then the
younger one he uh, he's playingpretty competitive. Right now, it's pretty
good. So let's see where thattakes him. But but yeah, howckey's
always been a been a thing inour household, and we've always gravitated toward

(11:22):
the rink. So it's been ait's been a it's been a good,
good run. Do you have anyadvice for Kim as a hockey mom,
Reese that, uh, yeah, for sure, a hockey mom. You
have to ask my mom. Shehas three boys, and she's a saint.
She's an absolute saint. Your mom. Yeah, she's she's the queener

(11:43):
on here. She does everything. But I don't know, she just she's
My mom. Was always supportive, she never really gone on my way,
and and whenever I needed help, she knew. I knew she was always
there for me. So whenever Ineeded something, I could call her and
talk to her about it. Sojust being a part of and and that
kind of thing, and just letme do my thing and and sometimes get

(12:05):
getting in the way when I'm driftingoff. But but she let me make
my own mistakes and learn from themtoo, so so that it's very grateful
for her for sure. Up inManitoba, you've have you seen any roadrunners
this summer? Any any of theguys U up there or out out and
about on any on any trips oranything. It's Manitoba, Kim is like,

(12:28):
it's it's out, it's out there. It's probably twenty hour twenty hour
drive. And you know, you'vegot a lot of guys in the Toronto
area and the outside of that,we're kind of kind of spread out.
So any anybody you've seen or stayedin touch with Reese? Yeah, definitely.
Uh. I saw Ben Golf havebeen in June, I think,

(12:50):
or maybe before development camp. Igot around in with him and that was
fun. I hadn't seen him ina while. I think he's in Arizona
now, so I I'm gonna seehim later. But and then I went
to Calgary for the Stampede. Iwas supposed to see MP and Eleenik.
Didn't work out just because they wereleaving as soon as I got there,

(13:11):
so the our schedules kind of didn'tplan out. But I was supposed to
see him one day, but itwas fortunate didn't get to see them there.
But but yeah, there's not muchgoing on in the Western here.
I haven't seen many of the guys. I've talked to some guys, but
but nothing crazy, you know.So you talked about golf and Ben a
couple of times. How good ofa golfer are you? And how good

(13:31):
of a golfer is he? Orbad of golfers are you? No,
I'd say I'm a decent golfer, not the best, not the worst,
like eighties probably every time, likemost of the time, I'll shoot eighties.
And then Ben's all over the place. He could shoot really he could
shoot like really really good, orhe could shoot really really bad. Of

(13:52):
course, the one day he cameout with me and he shot really really
good, so I didn't like himfor that day. But that sounds like
a very Ben McCartney thing, tojust be all over the place with your
game. Yeah. Yeah, hecan spread it left her right. You
never really know where it's going, but he's hitting it pretty straight when he
played with me. So that wasBut Reese, you mentioned your your third

(14:16):
development camp. How did you getin contact for the first time with the
Coyotes and become part of the organizationand ultimately get get the contracts. Yeah,
so it's funny, Star. Iwas action on the golf course again.
I was I was NPA. Itwas just started training camp. I
wasn't supposed to go to any campsor anything. I haven't really heard from

(14:39):
any teams. I had decent yearyear before in the bubble, so I
was like, oh, maybe, but I didn't hear much. And then
I was on the course a coupledays before camp, and I was a
late invite to development camp for Arizona. I think some guys got COVID and
then I guess how was the nextman up? So they invited me out
and I really strong camp, andI stayed for a while, and I

(15:03):
came back pretty late to staying formain camp and as a late invite,
so that kind of thing, andI got to tame back to Junior and
then ever since then, I've beencoming back. And then I signed my
HL contract and and here we areanother HL contract and camp coming up again.
So it's it's a lot of fun. That's awesome. Okay, so

(15:24):
really off topic of what you werejust talking about, but do you know
what suspension of disbelief is? Haveeither of you guys. Ever heard of
this term suspension of disbelief? Ihaven't, no no idea. I do
you want me to guess what itis? Yeah, you guess what it
is. It is getting out ofyour head any doubt of anything? How

(15:46):
about that kind of So it's it'skind of letting go of what you know
to be true to enjoy something thatisn't true. So, for instance,
when because I was in the military, you have to have when I watch
military movies, I have to havea suspension of disbelief. Otherwise I'm completely

(16:10):
pulled out of the movie if Isee something that I know is not accurate
in a military movie. And soI was watching Goon two last night,
and I don't know why I watchedit. I just had some free time
and I was sitting there thinking,I was like, what is what is
possibly the most out there hockey moviewhere you just got that suspension of disbelief

(16:30):
kicked in for you and you werelike, no, I can't buy this
movie anymore. I'm just I'm justout of it. Jeezus. I don't
watch many hockey movies. Honestly. The only ones that I really watched his
Miracle that One's pretty accurate, honest, because that's one of the best movies
ever. I loved that movie.Uh, maybe good the original one.

(16:53):
It's just the locker room. It'scrazy and the one guy for his name,
but he doesn't really care it.But he's like really good or something.
Sure, Oh is he like theirstar forward or four? And he
just he doesn't really care anything.But I wouldn't say that's true, because
you gotta put your time and dedicateyour life towards being really good. So

(17:14):
maybe that, Adrian, do youhave one? I might say, I
might say the first Goon my my. Before I get to that, though,
Reese, did you know that Goonhad a sequel called Goon two?
Because I had no idea. It'sactually, I don't think it's called Goon
two. It's called Goon like Daysof Thunder or something like that. Yeah,

(17:36):
so it's not Goon too, butI can't remember what it is.
Filmed in Winnipeg. Oh is itreally? Yeah? I'm not. I'm
not one hundred percent, but Iknow my buddy of mine was his dad
was in the movie scenes. I'mgoogling it now because I have to know.
Yeah, what is this again?Suspension? Of disbelief. Is that

(17:56):
that's all right? So I wouldprobably say Goon the Gun one Goon would
would be the movie. I watchedit on an airplane with our head coach
when it first came out on DVD, and we just we had a blast.
We love the the entire thing. We that that might be it,

(18:19):
Kim maybe the first and only timethat I've ever been in that state of
mind. That's interesting. Okay.So Guntu is like next level out there,
So if you get a chance towatch it, I'm super curious what
you guys think. And also okay, so it was filmed in Brandon,
Potaje La Prairie and McCarty sometown.Yeah, oh okay, in Winnipeg.

(18:42):
That's where most things were filmed. Is it is Portage La Prairie? Is
that how you say it? Oris it Portage La Prairie? Prairie.
We get a lot of downloads fromthere. I assume it's one of Ben's
neighbors at the one of the oneof the farms in the area, But
we get a lot of You geta lot of downloads from from Portage Little
Prairie. Yeah, it's a small, small support of town. So they

(19:03):
probably supporting pretty well there. Absolutelywe could narrow it down. We could
drive up there and drive right tothe combine. That's listening to our podcast.
I'll make sure to say the townname right next time. For sure.
I was trying to be you werevery proper about it. Yeah.
Oh it's called Goon Last of theEnforcers, That's what it is. Yeah,

(19:26):
if you want to, you wantto test your suspension of disbelief,
I highly recommend watching that movie. It's pretty funny. Definitely check it out,
all right, Reese fun question time? Is it the last five minutes
haven't been fun enough? Favorite offday activity in Tucson. Uh, probably
handle the course definitely. Golf course. A lot of nice courses there.

(19:49):
I was able to play, andit's a different train than up here in
the Prairies, so I enjoy playingthere a lot. Playing uh, you
know in the WHL and in everIt and Prince Albert and being from from
Winnipeg. What's what's been your favoritething about living in Arizona. Uh,
it's just it's just it's just differentthere. It's like it's really clean and

(20:14):
just living in the deserts, seeingcaxes around and the weather is always super
nice. It's never a cold dayand and uh, and yeah, it's
just been the weather I think isit's it's top nach there. Favorite cheat
meal that you have, uh,probably like chick fil A or something like
that. We don't have that uphere in Canada, so never I can

(20:37):
get to go to chick fil A. The chicken sound is just pretty good.
So chick fil A's the favorite cheatmeal on the team. Yeah.
In the locker room, who whowas next to you and who's your road
roommate? I was beside doner andand Greig's Gregor. I was in the

(21:00):
corner spot. It was a itwas a pretty good, pretty good corner
we had. So it was alot of fun there. And then,
uh, guy on the road wasme and Castle Ring. We kind of
when I got called up, hegot traded just then and we kind of
stuck together the whole the whole restof the season there. So me and
Castle are pretty good. And hewas at uh did you see him in

(21:21):
in the valley for Development Camp two? He was up there kind of kind
of at the same time. Allright, Yeah, he was, Yeah,
he came in. He participated inDevelopment camp unknowingly but yeah, he
was. He was there for acouple of times. And then during the
course of the season we had someextended trips. We had a week in
Vegas, a couple of times weended up being in Calgary for a week,

(21:44):
and uh, Coachella Valley in theplayoffs you were there for for a
week. If you had to goto any of those places, or if
you picked one of those places togo on a vacation, Cotchella Valley,
Calgary or Vegas for a week, where would you go for a vacation?
I think six days for Vegas. It's too long, it's too much more
Gon show there. And then Ithink I'd go to Coachella Valley. When

(22:06):
we went there for playoffs, itwas so nice and we went to dinner
sometimes downtown and Palm Springs there andit was just so clean and it was
just like flowers everywhere. It justit just looks so nice. And they
have a lot of golf courses thereas well. So I think I'd have
to choose Coachella Valley. Me too, Me too, Kim. Kim's always
going to be like, well,I can give you a week itinerary in

(22:29):
Vegas and you a lot never getbored, but never did the same thing
twice. Nope, I'm sure youcould probably find the six six days worth
of stuff over there. Do youhave any fun questions? Kim? I
just have two reason. What isyour hockey nickname? What do the guys
call you? Uh? I gotI've been called vit most of my life

(22:52):
and sometimes older guys sometimes call mereser. I get v sometimes and then
mcgager called me Vince a couple oftimes. That's out there. Yeah,
I don't know where that came from, but because we've I like that,
Okay. And then if you werein charge of the ox coord in the

(23:14):
locker room, what are we listeningto? Oh, I'm a country guy
through throwing it through. I justuh, it's always country for me.
So Morgan Wall and Luke Combs,Zach Bryan lately now, uh, John
Party, any of those countries?Countries? What about Bailey Zimmerman. I'm
on a Bailey Zimmerman kick right now. Yeah, he's he's got a good

(23:37):
voice. Sometimes it's his songs aretoo slow for me to get me in
my fields sometimes, but but hehas he has some good songs, for
sure, Yeah, Bait, someof them kind of hit home too.
Maybe that's maybe that's one of thethings. Hey, Reese, any question
for us? Uh No, I'mexcited to get back down and uh and

(24:00):
see you guys in person and getthe season going. It's gonna be it's
gonna be a fun year, excitingyear. I think that pretty really good
squads. So I'm excited to getgoing. Yeah, I think thinks so
excited about the team, right likehe had had a good season last year,
made the playoffs, and everybody's everybody'sgot a year more of experience.
We've added some more depth and uhgot uh got uh, you know,

(24:23):
some some more pieces in every area. So excited to keep going. Definitely,
I'm super I'm super pumped. Well, Reese, have a great,
uh great rest of your day.Do you know what what the families having
for dinner tonight? Because it's forus in Tucson it's nine ten in the
morning, but that's that's usually rightwhen we start talking about lunch. So
I'm starving and uh, anything anythingcoming up tonight? Maybe I don't know.

(24:47):
I think my dad's a got somechicken breasts, so amazing something do
a chicken you're talking about? Wehad these giants. Actually he's talking about
these giants zuki. Oh my god, did did did you guys grow those?
I think my grandma grandpa brought themover the last night. So oh
they're home grown. That's amazing.Yeah. I don't know if they grew

(25:10):
them, but I think they wentand got them. But uh, he
says something to do with rice andzucchini and chickens. So hopefully it's it's
the length of your forearm. Thatwas amazing. Zucchini. Yeah, yeah,
we have three of them. Arethey're pretty big? That sounds good.
Yeah, enjoy that. Enjoy that. We love our food picks if
you think about it, and yougot your phone at the table, and

(25:32):
maybe sneak a picture for us.But but outside of that, enjoy dinner
and thanks for coming on the podcast. Appreciate it. Enjoy your last couple
of weeks up up on the Prairie. And uh in Winnipeg. It's Winnipeg.
We call that the Prairie. Iknow it's Manitoba. It's like a
big city, right, but yeah, it's it's pretty big, but it's
for sure, we'll call it thePrairie. Enjoy your last couple of days

(25:53):
up on the prairie, and we'llsee you back in the desert. Definitely
coming up, coming up on thenext next little bit here. Yeah,
for sure. Thanks for having youguys, appreciate it a lot. Thanks.
There he is Reese Telly joining Kimand myself here on the podcast.
I think he had a good time, Kim. I know we had a
good time. We always love lovetalking to Reese. We met, We

(26:15):
always talk about this, Kim.We stopped recording way too soon because you
and I continue the conversation going foranother ten fifteen minutes, and we actually
met Reese's youngest brother, tiny tinyVitelli, Yeah, tiny Vitelli, Tiny
Vittelly, who was just coming backfrom hockey practice. But as Reese swung

(26:41):
the camera over so that we couldmeet him and say hi, he shared
with us that he was just comingback from the hospital. So but we
never got the story. So hopefullyhe looked good, everything looked good.
Hopefully everything's okay. Yeah, Ithink everything was okay, Like he was
he was home from the hospital.Like that has to be a good shign,
right, you're from the hospital.Yeah. Well, And with Reese

(27:03):
rolling his eyes as his brother saidthat, and panning the camera back to
himself. That was Yeah, I'massuming with what four boys in the house
playing hockey, that hospital visits areprobably a quasi frequent happening in that household,
in the Vince household, is itVince? Yeah, Vince household,
the Telly, the Telly, noVincence, Vince, Vince, Oh,

(27:27):
Vince, Yes, the nickname.I'm just telling him. Bryan McGregor calls
him Vince. Yeah, I'm justclining Vince from now because I love it.
I love the idea of calling himsomething that's not close to his name.
But but you could see how youwere you were saying it to start
the interview. You didn't know hisname the first time you met, right

(27:47):
exactly. Yeah, now and nowI see and now I can see events,
and yeah, it works. Ilike it. So I'm gonna roll
with Vince. How about Reese gettingthat contract extension, Kim, we were
talking about it with him signed tothat one year h deal. That's a
hard contract to get a second one. You gotta work really hard. You
gotta have a really good year toget that second pro contract, just with

(28:11):
the amount of new players that arecoming up. So congratulations to Reese he's
been working really hard, has somegoals for the year and uh, you
know, last year split between Tucsonand Atlanta and this year looking to stay
with us up here in Tucson forthe whole year. And he's he's laid
out his goals and he's had thesummer to work out and he's done a
done a great job. I've gotto imagine. And he mentioned, you

(28:34):
know, playing on two different teams. That was the first time in one
season that he played on two differentteams. How mentally flexible you have to
be h to you know, togo into a new team and figure out,
you know where you're going to workbest and what the role is going
to be, and then be strongenough to come out of that. Getting
a contract is very very yeah, amazing. Have you ever had Have you

(28:57):
ever had a casual conversation with somebodyKim that eight nine months later they come
back to you and start drilling you, Hey, eight nine months ago,
or you were learning how to cook? How's that going? No, that
was the first time. But becauseI had I just went back and listened
to our conversation with him so thatI could remember what we had talked about.

(29:18):
But I figured, you know,in that span of time that his
cookie and not only is it agood amount of time, but that he's
had time, you know, toget to know the guys on the team
and the ones who are cooking forthemselves a lot. That maybe he expanded
his recipe book a little bit.I was just curious about that. You
do you do? You do youdo any cooking? Kim? Are you

(29:41):
not at all? I don't.I don't cook a thing. I don't
cook a thing. I mean,I won't cook pasta. I can cook,
I just don't. I don't enjoyit, and it gets the kitchen
soul heats up the whole house.I'm not a fan for for a single
guy. I may have said thison the podcast before. I find it
more not to cook for myself. You go to the grocery store, that's

(30:03):
one hundred bucks, it's a lotof ingredients, it's a lot of inventory.
It's just easier not to m andthen and then you buy all the
ingredients for you know, what wouldbe considered you know, a normal amount
of food, but that's probably goingto feed for people. I'm not gonna
want to eat the same thing dayafter day after day. I'm like you,
it's it's too much, it's wasteful. I don't but as for me

(30:29):
as a professional hockey player, youcan see it because they're going to go
through all that pasta and and uh, good job, good job Reeese starting
to cook and uh and sticking withit and then having a good, good
response to Kim when she comes backnine months later demanding answers. Well,
and I imagine they have to havea pretty pretty extentive, you know,

(30:49):
recipe repertoire to be able to cookvery healthy meals because like even we don't
count Chick fil at as a cheapmeal, right, But that's what I'm
just gonna say. Every single oneof our guys comes out with Chick fil
as a cheat meal, and Idon't Chick fil A's not a cheap meal.
That's a snack, snack. Yeah, it's it's not a cheap meal,

(31:15):
not not to my way of thinking. To me, like, I
see the rock on social media whathe has for a cheap meal. Have
you seen the amount of food thatthat man eats on a cheap meal day.
It's intense. It's like four hamburgersand they're like big monster, big
as your face burgers, and thenour guys are just going to chickfil chick

(31:36):
Fili or Chipotle and Chipotle I goto for healthy. Yeah, Chipotle is
not. Chipotle is healthy. It'sfantastically healthy. I mean, they're not
cooking with butter back there, likeif you were going to go get a
steak like it Flemings or something. They're cooking everything in butter, you know,
like lots and lots of butter, and it tastes so good and it's
all that fat and it's, ohmy god, it's so good. Chipotle

(31:57):
is not doing that. No,no, So so leave it to our
guys to make Chick fil A andChipotle place as we go. When we
want to eat healthy, eat theircheat meals, right, Yeah, we
need to. I think they needto expand their cheat meal repertoire. Like
they're doing a great job at home, but I think they really need to

(32:20):
learn the meaning of a cheat meal, you know, like a freaking actual
person for you, what is it? It's egs, It's it's just it's
honestly, a large French fry withtwo ranches and a large e g It's
so unhealthy, it's so horribly unhealthy. But it's so good. That's that's
kind of my thing too. LikeI during the six days of the week,

(32:45):
I will not I eliminate dressings, right. I want to have mayonnaise.
I want to have a ranch.I don't have dessert. I don't
have sweets. Okay, cheat meals, I will have ranch, I will
have ice cream. I will havea second bowl of ice cream and a
third bowl of ice cream. Buttaking away the dressings and the sides and

(33:07):
the desserts six days a week, that's what we're doing. Okay. So
where are you going to for yourcheat meal or your cheap day? Right,
because it's you can have a dayright to get just one one meal,
one cheat meal? Okay, Pizza, okay, A lot of appetizers

(33:29):
would be one. Five guys wouldbe one. Oh yeah, oh my
gosh, burgers and fries. Goto El Charo and go to town,
have the Caso fundido, a coupleof bowls of chips. Right, So
that's uh, and desserts doesn't.Yeah, we've got this. We've got

(33:52):
this ice cream in the freezer rightnow, Kim birthday cake ice cream?
Have you ever had that before? No? But it sounds fantastic. Oh,
Yeah, it's got frosting and cakein it. It's like actual piece
of frosting and cake. Yeah.Yeah, Oh my god, I'm a
big fan of that. Holy smokes, that's a wait from where where did

(34:14):
you get it? Where can weall find it? It's it's one of
those. It's one of those offbrand, homemade, not really distributed in
a lot of places ice cream atall. I'll try, I'll try and
get it. I'll try and geta brand. Okay, all right,
Well, and you know what Iwas gonna say. It's a really good
cheat meal. Portillo's. Oh gosh, yeah, yeah, that is a

(34:35):
I have seen after games walking back, walking home through the double Tree.
The visiting teams. I have seen, you know, a couple of their
guys walking through the lobby with boxesfull of Portillos after a game. Probably
just probably just Uber eats over becauseit's like Broadway and Albernon. It's the
Chicago the Chicago Italian beef, whichfor me when we go to chicag Ago,

(35:00):
it's always a treat. And Isaw one going up here probably a
couple of months ago, and nowI've eaten it, the one up in
the valley, and it's uh,crinkle cut fries, chee cheese sauce.
Yep, what's what? What's thecake shakes? The chocolate cakes? Gosh,

(35:21):
what is it? The custard custardpie of some sort they've got.
Yeah, they have a lot ofdesserts, a lot of dessert options.
Considering it's it's fascinating because it's adrive through there and everything. And I
always get the hot dog. I'ma big fan of their hot dogs,
which yeah, yeah, that isn'tan insanely good cheat meal. And I've

(35:42):
heard from Chicago natives that when youget one of their beefs sandwiches that you
gotta get it double dipped it.Yeah, I get it. I get
it dipped all the way, andI get it with a knife and fork.
Oh, as I say, thebread must just completely fall apart on
you. Yeah, I eat itwith a knife and fork. Okay,
let's stay on food. We don'tusually do food till the end, but

(36:02):
Kim, you had some food stuffto get to downtown. Speaking of food,
speaking of cheat meals, Yes,So first Sonoran Restaurant Week is coming
up, and it's ten days, one hundred restaurants, a prefixed menu of
twenty five dollars, thirty five dollarsor forty five dollars, and you can
each restaurant designates what we'll go ontheir prefixed menu and you can go in

(36:27):
and and sample, you know, the best of what they have to offer.
I'm a big fan of Sonoran RestaurantWeek. They've been doing it for
a couple of years now, andwhen it first started, I think it
was literally only like ten restaurants, and now there's so many restaurants that are
a part of it, and itjust I mean, you get so much
food for not a ton of money. So and there's lots of places in

(36:51):
there that you can go try.So have you, Adrian, have you
ever gone to Sonoran Restaurant Week? Are you guys here? You're here?
Yeah, we're here. Yeah,Okay, I've never. I've never.
I've been to the restaurants. Ihaven't been for the deals, right go
the week after like miss the deal, but I'll pay whatever you want for
everything that you had, right Yeah, So definitely try any restaurants that you

(37:13):
haven't been to. I know it'sall local. So you know, I
did the big one in their commercialright now for Snerin Restaurant week is Cornet,
which just released their new menu,so I'm super excited. Cornett,
which is close to my house anddoes a seasonal menu so it changes frequently
so you can go there and notget the same thing ever, so really

(37:37):
interesting. And then the other thingthat I wanted to talk about. Okay,
two more things, Adrian, Areyou a pickle wall guy? I've
played it. I've played it witha Nissan Nephew, I've done it,
sure, Okay, I have neverplayed. It's tennis on the smaller tennis
court. Ish, right, it'stennis with a smaller court so you don't

(37:58):
have to run all over the place. And then and then it's a whiffle
ball, right, It's not,or is it? It involves different diferent
Yeah, different ball, different paddles. It's much more compact. It seems
like a much more social game.I have never played it, but people
are huge into pickleball right now. It's it's all over the place. We

(38:20):
got a pickle ball restaurant and it'sjust outside downtown Chusan. It's right on
Sixth Avenue south of Fifth Street, and it's called Corbett. It went into
the old Corbett building which is nextto Miller's Surplus, and I think Exo
Cafe is right there XO. Ithink it's XO. Anyway, it's indoor,
outdoor, incredibly good food. Iknow somebody who said that they went

(38:45):
there just to kind of like scopeit out for team building exercises with their
their work colleagues and that it's amazing. So that's number two is really exciting
that this is opening. Like Isaid, I haven't tried pickleball before,
but I will try it indoors becausethat's where it's temperature regulated. Yeah,

(39:07):
that's all. Yeah, yeah. And then also Riley's which has already has
its main floor restaurant. Right.Have you ever been to Riley's. I
haven't that It has been recommended tome by Jay Verity and Steve Popvin.
It's so good, it's so sogood. The meatballs is what the appy

(39:28):
that they get? Yes, yep, the meat balls is amazing. I
always get. They have like aTagliatelli pasta within a bowl and as that
is so so good, it's youcouldn't. I don't know how they make
it. It's so so good. It's not like something I would be able
to make for myself. Like sometimesyou go to Italian restaurants and you're like,
yeah, I can. I couldprobably put this together at home.

(39:49):
But their their food is very verygood. They just oh so they have
their main level restaurant, they havetheir underground bar, the Tough Luck Club.
Have you ever been down to theTough Luck Club? No, I
haven't, but again you have toDay and Steve. Yeah, you have
to go check it out. Review. Yes, it's very dark down there.
It's so cool and I don't knowif they even have they've got to

(40:14):
have some sort of air system downthere, but even in the summertime,
that room, those rooms down thereare very cool there. Yeah, a
lot of fun in the Tough LuckClub. But now they've opened a rooftop
bar and to have some amazing viewsfrom what it looks like on social media.
So I'm really excited to go checkthat out. Yeah, I've got
to get there. I saw asocial post on Instagram. I think over

(40:37):
the weekend, I'm like, wegotta get there, got to get there
this season now that we're just completelyout of order. Do you want to
you want to? Let's let's scrollsocial media here because we talked about Dusty
Square. Yes last week on onthe podcast Dusty Squares where we you know,
give you you know, three threelose down, three clues across,

(41:00):
give you eight of the nine playersand you have to come up with the
winning player. So this year orthis past Friday's Dusty Squares, the winner
was the player that did this atleast nine games the Coyotes this year,
and his first NHL goal was withSan Jose and it was Milosh Kellman.
We the amount of guys that we'vehad scored their first NHL goals against San

(41:21):
Jose's pretty pretty pretty high up there. We remember Victor Scudder's from in on
Unique on the same weekend, right, Lawson Crouse did it earlier on and
then Milosh Kellerman was the one winnerfor Dusty Squares this week. With at
least nine NHL games, the Coyote'sfirst nhial goal over San Jose. We
got a celebrity like on the Instagrampost for that. Oh my gosh,

(41:42):
okay, who you want to giveme a hit? This is a big
deal. Coyotes goalie. Coyotes goalie. Oh I'm not that well versed.
Uh carelva Melca veggie like veggie?Yeah, current Kyoti's goalie Veggie liked our
liked our Instagram post for for DustySquires. That is awesome. Wow,

(42:07):
holy smokes big congrats. Yeah yeah, and then it looked like we had
a golf outing over the weekend.Four of our guys, uh went out
golfing together, Josh Stone, NathanSmith, Ben McCartney, and I think
kessel Ring posted this. Why can'tI find who posted this? Isn't that

(42:30):
the whole point of screenshotting and instagrampost? Uh? Yeah, yeah it
was castle Ring, castle Ring,McCartney, Smith, and Josh Stone all
went golfing over the weekend, Accordingaccording to Mike kessele Ring's Instagram story up
in Phoenix. So they are intown. Did it look like it was
the middle of the day or didit look like it was close to sunrise?

(42:51):
Because that sound looked really warm.Yeah. There there's some some clouds
overhead. Oh thank good. Okay, yeah, so I can't can't really
tell, but there's clouds overhead.Kim. Speaking of getting back in hockey,
Katy's Preseasonna gonna get going and you'regonna be involved in in a Coyotes

(43:12):
preseason game. And yeah, Wichita, Kansas. Yes, I was so
excited. I didn't really to Kansasbefore. Oh, you're going to Kansas,
Kim, the first time, andI honestly, I like with Rockford,
I had to google it to seeexactly where it was Wichitas, like
right in the center of the country. I am, I am excited.

(43:35):
I really love going to the otherbarns and checking things out and just kind
of seeing what the vibe is andyou know, kind of what the guys
are up against in terms of thecrowd. You know, what kind of
music are they playing. I justlike all of it. I'm a big
fan of like seeing the whole production. You're gonna go be the PA announcer
for the Coyotes preseason game in Wichita, Kansas on September twenty fourth, Saturday,

(44:02):
September twenty four, Yeah, thanplaying Saint Louis. Do we need
to figure this out? Yeah?Maybe? Uh yeah, So Kim will
be the PA announcer in Wichita,Kansas for the Coyotes game. And you
said September twenty fourth, I thinkthat's it. Yeah, here's the best

(44:22):
part of it, Kim. Youwere going with a buddy, Oh,
I am you are? You don'tknow who this is, do you?
Oh? It's the twenty third,No, I don't know who it is.
Saturday, September twenty three, Kimwill be the PA announcer in Wichita,
Kansas for the Kyotes preseason game againstWe Thank Saint Louis. Uh.

(44:43):
We could have folks way in,but it's just too good. Kim and
Dusty will be representing the Roadrunners inwhich it's it's so exciting, Holy cow,
I have no idea. Kim andDusty road trip take take your bail
money cash only Kim road Troop withDusty. Oh my goodness. I think

(45:06):
I feel like I'm gonna have tohold on to the bail money. And
yeah, I feel like I'm definitelygoing to be the adults in the in
the relationship, and that's hard forme because I am not ever the adults.
I've been to Wichita, Kansas beforefor for hockey. Yeah, it's
a it's a nice arena. Itwas built to host major pro sports right

(45:29):
like it was my My. WhatI get out of it is the building
in Wichita was built to were amajor protein to Wichita, which hasn't happened
yet. But they've had a nicebuilding for over a decade that could host
major pro sports. It's that nice. Oh wow, in which the home
of the ec HLS Wichita Thunder.Kim, who does that feed up to

(45:55):
thunder? Who do the Wichita Thunderfeed up too? They were with edmund
I have no idea they were withEdmonton and Bakersfield, but they weren't.
They weren't this past year, soI'll have to look it up. I'm
just I was just curious. Ihave no idea who the caddies are playing
there. I have no idea whotheir ECHL team is affiliated with. Ah,

(46:16):
this is called show prep. Didn'tdo it. It's Labor Day.
It's Labor Day. Wichita is thelargest city in the state of Kansas.
Oh, they're affiliated with San Jose. I should know this. Oh okay,
yeah, well now now there's anothertie back to San Jose. We
just can't can't get rid of them. Wait, wait too much? If
you asked me, yeah, Iam incredibly excited to go to Wichita.

(46:42):
I gotta I gotta start practicing mynames and be ready to go. Because
last time I did a Coyotes preseasongame, Paul Serro was sitting right next
to me, so I could lookat him and say I don't know how
to say the same, and hewould just right off the tongue. You
know he's got it. So yeah, I'm excited, and I'm excited.
I was thinking about you guys andthe administrative staff in the office. You're

(47:06):
getting ready for getting ready for preseason, and the ice has gone in at
the TCC. I saw his account. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm
anytime that building gets cooled on theinside, I am ready to go.
I am so excited. Promo schedulesout, Kim, what's your favorite promo
night on the promo schedule so far? Do you think so? I think

(47:30):
it's probably Star Wars Night. It'sjust some I'm such a nerd Adrian.
I love Star Wars Night and Ilove seeing all the costumes and the kids
love it and there's so many people. Saturday, December thirtieth is Star Wars
Night. Yeah, I'm I'm readyfor it now. I'm gonna go Saturday,

(47:52):
October twenty eighth, Kim, Ilike Eliza Day two soon. Oh
okay, yeah. I like whenmy friend Roberta brings over the the mariachi
and uh like the jerseys and theguys love the alazzo stuff. So looking
forward to the first of three Alazzanights on Saturday, Actober twenty eighth,
which is also doubling as Fright Night. Oh what's fright night. It's gonna

(48:15):
be scary idioso, Yeah, gonnabe on Elaza night when you're scared.
Say that again. You say idiosmeo on Alaza night when you're scared,
idios meo, idios meal. Idiosmeo means oh my god, oh my
goodness, oh my god, what'soh my gosh, kim or but I

(48:39):
prefer that mmm. I don't knowhow to translate gosh. I'm gonna have
to ask. I will. Iwill come up with a clean version,
for sure, thank you. Butthe Alaza nights are are very interesting for
me, and it definitely takes adifferent part of my brain when I do
Alaza nights because I don't speak fluentSpanish and I am given scripts that are

(49:00):
mostly plans. Clearly yes all theswear words, and I can read it,
but I can't understand all of it, so it's it really does take
a little bit extra brain power forme on Alaso nights. If anybody hears
me tripping over words or taking aminute to say something. That is why.

(49:21):
So the other big news this pastweek in hockey, Kim, You've
got that story for us over atthe breaking news desk. So we have
an announcement of the professional women's hockeyleague that is going to be kicking off.
It was introduced on the twenty ninthof August, and we're going into
six markets with this league, threeCanada, three US. So we're going

(49:45):
to Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto,Boston, Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and
the New York City area. SoI am I don't know about you,
Adrian, I am incredibly excited forthis. The free agency period start earlier
this month. What are we on? It started three days ago, So
the teams are starting to be puttogether, Drafts are happy, going to

(50:07):
be happy or yeah, drafts aregonna be happening, and yeah, I'm
so excited for this league to beto be realized and to watch it grow,
like I feel like it's an incredibletime to be alive to see this
happen. More hockey, the better, I'll always And speaking of more hockey,
more hockey, more better, theU of A has also announced a

(50:30):
women's hockey team that's gonna be startedin twenty twenty four. They're gonna have
their inaugural season next year. Theircoach is here. She was in town
this week. I don't know ifshe's still here. Her name is Caitlin
Hogan, and she is just rightnow building the staff and the team.
I did not know about this untilshe actually showed up at my son's practice.

(50:54):
You know, he's a junior roadrunneron the high school team. She
came out to practice all the andshe just you know, started went up
and started talking to the coaches andlike the guys and the parents, you
know, we're kind of far away, we're not really figuring out what's going
on. And then somebody was like, oh, that's the new women's hockey
coach. So the UFA has not, as far as I know, not

(51:15):
ever had a women's club hockey teambefore, and AHA team, so I
think this is a first. AndI don't even know if ASU has a
women's team. I should have actuallydone some homework on that, because why
I start now. Yeah no,but now I'm curious now that you mentioned

(51:37):
that, I don't I don't rememberhearing about one that one up at ASU.
Yeah, yeah, I hear aboutall the men's levels. But I
don't ever remember hearing about a women'sleague. And they have so much,
so much ice up north. Okay, now now I got to figure it
out. But yeah, they doit. Okay, Well that's good.

(51:57):
So that'll be that'll be a nicerivalry when the big stands up and gets
going. And yeah, the youhave a men's hockey team is going to
play a preseason game against a SU, the D one team at malt Arena
this month. Oh really, whenis that happening? This month? Kim?

(52:19):
This month? This month? Gotit? This month? That's this?
I would love to take a tripup there. Maybe maybe I'll take
a trip up to go see that. That would be a lot of fun.
I'm gonna get a date year. The seating tournament, the high school
seating tournament actually happened over the lasttwo days, also up in Phoenix,

(52:44):
so all the teams we're up theredoing all of the plane play. I
think I noticed I noticed the bigbig weekend for the Kachina's. Yeah on
on social the game against a SUis actually October six, at the night
of our preseason game in Henderson.Oh okay, yeah, so not this

(53:06):
month, game next month, nextmonth. Okay, you as you good
to know. And they actually justcreated for the first time too. I
don't know if people saw this onsocial media. The UFA has created an
online March store, which they hadn'thad before, specifically for hockey gear,
which I'm a big fan of becausebefore you had to go to a game
to be able to get or youhad to go to a bookstore, which

(53:29):
is not always super convenient to goto campus and do that. But yeah,
so they have an online store now, which is fantastic. I think
you probably just need to google itto find it and get some You have
a hockey jerseys. It looks good, looks it looks even better in hockey
form. I think lots of hockey. Just so much hockey is happening right
now, my whole social media rightnow, Adrian is all the entire both

(53:53):
leagues, NHL, AHL, ECHLA, everybody is putting in their ice and
recording it. And I had aquestion for you because so one of the
videos that I saw, the oilerswere actually using kind of like vinyl that
they put the ice over right sothere, and then I saw the Red

(54:14):
Wings are actually painting the lines. But they have like this big long stick
that they do it with and likea sprinkler system or something. And then
the black Hawks posted theirs and theyactually hand paint the entire thing, which
to me is bananas. And soI was curious the TCC ice. Do
you know how that's done? Ididn't realize there was so many options.

(54:35):
Yeah, the blue lines and redlines are painted right, okay, and
then the sponsor logos are and okayover yes, And the other alternative to
that is what you're seeing in Chicagois kind of a stencil painting thing.
Paint by number. Oh okay,so that's uh, that's what that's what

(54:58):
that is. Yeah, that's veryfascinating to me. It seems like a
very specific skill set that you don'tknow you have until maybe you try it
one time and then you're like,oh my god, I can paint on
ice. Yeah. Yeah. JoshJones is going to join us next week
on the podcast. Kim, We'reexcited to talk with Josh. I am
so excited to talk to Josh. He's such such an interesting life and and

(55:21):
just such a such a nice guy. He's such a good person. I
remember when he first came and someof the fans actually stopped me and asked
me what he was like, andI was like, just talk to him.
He is so open and just sucha great person. He's great.
We're excited to have Josh next weekon the podcast and Kim next week.
Did you hear last episode with meand Jimmy when we had a discussion about

(55:45):
something with my cell phone that Ididn't know how it happened? And oh
yeah, over the red receipts andall that stuff. I've got something.
I've got something for you and we'lltalk about it next week on the podcast.
So the folks, I think ifthey enjoy void the ten minutes of
me and Jimmy on Red Receipts, you'll want to stay tuned for what I've
got for Kim coming up next weekafter Josh Stone. So remind me to

(56:08):
get to that. Kim. I'mnervous now about what I've texted you.
No, no, nothing, no, nothing like that. Okay, can
wait a week. Let's do ourrandom download city. Yeah, the week
US Canada. Let's go international.Okay, do you want to go England?
Yeah? Let's go all right,Well, you're gonna have to google
the darned place when I tell youwhere it is. Okay, one download

(56:31):
this week in the United Kingdom. It came it took place in Worksop,
w r K SPP Worksop. Interesting, Okay, it says town in England.
Oh and they have a football club. Okay. It is currently eighty

(56:52):
one degrees and works up. Checkwhere's it on the map. I'm looking,
I'm king if you're just like,it's a city in England. They
have a the soccer team. Thatis literally what when when I when I
googled it, that's the first thingthat I popped up. It just said
city in England. It is tiny, and it is right in the middle,

(57:15):
so it is obviously north of London. It is right in the middle.
It's near Liverpool, so Liverpool ison the west coast, and then
Manchester's a little bit more inland, and then Sheffield is like right in the

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
