Speaker 1 (00:00):
Cultures will fifty years into it, you keep coming back,
which we love. But what is it about it? What
is the poll that keeps bringing you back every time?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Well, you know, see opportunity to play music with with
a bunch of guys that you know that that you
know that my best friends, that I think that the
music we make together is absolutely unique in the world.
And and and it's one of those bands that every
time we walk into a room together and start playing
from the first chord, there's a magic that happens and
(00:28):
it just sounds great. You know, it just sounds like
nothing else I play. So you know, it's it's of
doing that. It's it's also you know, the opportunity to
play a catalog of you know, incredible songs, you know,
most of which were written by Don Iconic.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
So you know, it's really there's a lot of great ways.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
And and the other thing is, you know that connection
that we have to to the Puntners. You know, we
we Coultures are we sort of grew up in you know,
other sixteen when I joined Cultures or we were we
grew up in the public eye, and we grew up
sort of with with our audios and we're sort of
connected at the.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Hip now, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Yeah, And you talk about it being chili where you
are now, but the prospect of coming here for a
Kei we summer that must warm the cockles of your heart.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
That could be chilly as well. Don't judge us on
our summers, true dad.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
But are you happy to be spending your time here
in January?
Speaker 4 (01:19):
Absolutely? Absolutely?
Speaker 2 (01:20):
I mean New Zealand from you know, from for me
personally and for the band, has always been a huge
part of our history.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
I remember playing Narawahi way back in the in the seventies,
and and and and realizing at that moment that that
this this country got us. You know, it was this
festival and we were we were sort of strangers in
a bit of a strange land. You know, we're not
that different the Kiwis and the Aussies. But we got
there and we're I think we were on the festival
(01:48):
with Ultra Box and a whole bunch of other bands
and stuff, and we just went and did what we
do and I could see the audience. We like these
guys and we are we immediately connected with an audience.
And since that day, you know, I'll be I've been
going back to I've been going back to New Zealand
ever since, and I've always felt like part of the family.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
You are one of us. Yeah, it's a really great thing.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
I'm really happy to becoming. I'm really glad that we're
bringing cultures are there because you fifty years you know,
who knows if we get a chance to do this again.
But you know, it's just it's to celebrate that that
marker with you guys, that would be amazing.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
Absolutely Where are you now? Did you say you're in Scotland.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
No, in the southern Highlands and in south of Sydney where.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Okay, different highlands.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
It's cold, it's just cold to Scotland.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Yeah, fair enough. That's a that's a hell of a
bookshelf you've got behind you. Is that something you do?
Are you a big reader? Is it read?
Speaker 2 (02:43):
I've read and right, well, I write books. So yeah,
I've got a lot of stuff to read here.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
A lot.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
There's lots of you know, Robbie Burns and you know,
all sorts of stuff up there, you know, So you know,
I just you know, I like, you know, I read
things and I get stimulated and then start writing.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Just have your left shoulder. We can see fifty shades
of great Jimmy, what's that about?
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Nothing to do with reading.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
It was meant to be the Locks party.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
You know what this funny thing is I've done. I've
done over the years, and me and Jane have done
lots of posts, you know, from this room, and it's
it's our library basically, and people zoom in and and
they'll zoom and the weirdest things will go, you know,
up to the top corner and go. You've got you know,
you know, whatever it is. You know, there's so feeler
in history there, you know.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
And well, I've actually noticed you've still got a written
encyclopedia when most people just go to Google these days.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
So I appreciate that, you know.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
I just I like books, and I like old books,
you know, I've got a lot of old books in here,
and uh and just these are just ones that I've
collected over the years.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
But yeah, they're really great.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
I mean, there's something about being in a room full
of books that sort of just makes me feel relaxed
and makes you feel comfortable, makes.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
You look really smart, very smart.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
You put.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
Now we're talking to a lawyer, so enclosing, Yeah, oh Jimmy,
we can't wait. We always love catching up with you
and so we can't wait to catch up beginning in January.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
How good is it that you're with ice House as well?
Speaker 1 (04:31):
It's really great.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
I was a dear friend of it as we've been
you know, we used to be managed by the same group,
uh you know, through the through the late seventies and eighties,
so we're dear old friends. I think the first film
clip that ice Hos made was was filmed in my
bedroom and the host in Paddington, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yeah, yeah, the walls.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
I think it was.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
We saw the lineup for the show and we were
just like, oh my god, this is a this is
a this is a concert.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
That we need to be well, you know, big big rungers.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
You know, she's a she's a bloody legend, you know
at Fantastic Artists. We really pleased ever there. And I've
actually I've seen ever Clear many years ago opening up
for Silver Chair here and they were like a three
piece hard rock band. I really liked and I loved,
you know, Santa Monica.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
I love that record. That sounds incredible, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Yeah, So it's really great to have. It's just you know,
when you build a bill, when you want to do
a show, it's from the moment people walk into the room.
They want in the arena, they want them to have
a great time. And uh and so you know, we
we built this from the ground up and it's going
to be awesome. Every single act is going to be great.
