Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Coast Breakfast Bonus Podcast with Tony Jason Sam.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Thanks to listen to our Breakfast Bonus podcast, and were
in closer to the Paris Olympics. We started thinking about
the things that you know what, maybe you watch those
sort of sports and things. I could have done that, well,
you know, and it's easy from the couch to say it,
I could.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Have done that.
Speaker 4 (00:16):
Is that what you thought? This week? Jas when Delan
Schmidt came into Coast with the trampolining, do you know what?
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Yes, I do?
Speaker 4 (00:22):
No you did?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
I thought myself. I've had a trampoline since I was
a kid. I reckon with a bit of braknice. I
can get the height and the flip's going. I can
do a front flip, I can do a backflip.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
Do you know what? I've been watching Delan Schmidt? This
is creepy for me on his Instagram and he is
one of the strongest people out and I think for
a start to be a trampoliner, they tend to be
kind of short, muscular dudes.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Okay, well I'm out only.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
Because of the height I see. I know my limitations.
I know it could never be a gymnast.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
So could you do that because I think a lot
of us do this. We watched the sports. I think
I reckon back and back and fight by time again.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Well, let's start by actually saying have you ever competed
in any of the sports? And I can say yes,
I have. So I've competed in rugby before. I've been
part of rugby teams, so I could potentially be a
rugby sevens player I have. I did athletics as a
kid into provincials.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
True, yeah, So.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
I don't know how have I for any of the
body types for athletics anymore? I don't know if that
would work for me. Certainly not going to be very
good in the high jump.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Never was. I was okay, a hockey. I got hockey,
so may.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Black sticks didn't make that.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
None of us are going then swimming?
Speaker 4 (01:31):
You used to swim?
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Not that? Well, God, no, I'll be blown away in
the pool.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
I was a squad swimmer. But you know, I don't
know if I could deal with all those early mornings
just looking at that black line anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Have you heard my horrific swimming sports story? Yes, I have.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
Jay Tho he had one and he'd actually gone to
the side of the pool out of the lane, so I.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Was in the backstroke.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Of course, you know, you can't see where you're going,
and I can hear you on cheering and make a
lot of noise, and I touched the wall.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
I was like, yes, a turn.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
There's some serious balance issues right there. The other definitely
get to count you out of doing anything in the
gym swhere. And if you're not good at gym, then
you're not really good at diving either, because I feel
like diving is a mixture between gym and swimming.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Yeah, and I think you'll be okay with heights and
overly cool with heights.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
What about cycling? If Sam was here, I think Sam
would say cycling, cycling B mix is one of them too,
And didn't he used to be a B mixer?
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Did you have a B mix? That's right? Yeah, I
think I could do the walking. The community to walking.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Everyone thinks they can be a walker, and I beat
your walkers get really angry because they think, oh, you
just walk, it'll be easy, faster than we run, thrust.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Going and things, And isn't the rule that you can't
have both feet off the ground at the same time.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
I can do that. So many disqualified flags. I think
you're allowed two or three flags and then after that
you're out.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
I think there's a couple of warnings years. I think
maybe they're discuss a crack.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
I was the Taranaki champion for discuss you really really ruinedly. Yeah,
but I just don't know I've got it in me.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Did you have a do rowing?
Speaker 4 (03:00):
No? I wished i'd done rowing as a kid and
Tanda Lucky. Rowing wasn't a big thing. But since I've
moved to Auckland, rowing is huge and I wonder whether
my kids will end up doing it because the Marty
Cup seems great for kids to get him this is
the thing.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
So my wife grew up on the North Shore, so
I grew up in Hawks Bay where rowing was a
big thing that were around.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
You know. I remember going to Clive to interview that.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
It's exactly what was between Api and Hayes's little place
called Clive. But no, Louise, my wife, she did it
and she actually won the Mardy Cup with her team.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
She was the Cox at the end of.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Yeah, I can imagine who being the little Cox. My
boss actually expos at TV. Indeed, he was the Cocks
and for the men's eight that won gold medal. Yes, wow,
gold Olympic medal. Pretty called Andy. Hey, if you're wondering,
he was up at TV and said, for years, what
are the sports? Okay, weightlifting? Nod to Sam, he could
(03:46):
he pushes some serious tin.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
He does, but it's technique.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
And then for a while here is there? What about wrestling?
Speaker 3 (03:53):
No, I give it a go, but I don't think
i'd what volleyball?
Speaker 1 (03:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Probably again, I wouldn't look as good as in the uniform.
Let's call it the uniform.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
Are you sure?
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah? Pretty sure.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Now we'll be up for there. So if you watching
the Olympics, good luck. And I think we all watch
it thinking in ourselves.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
I could probably do that, and I think we all
agree that we're best to just stay on the couch
with a Bolla cherpiece.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Done.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
